  1. Following are some beautiful words of Dhan Guru Baba Nanak Dev Maharaj, in Raag Maajh, conveying us the basic truths of Gurmat : ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ Guramathee Aap Gavaae Naam Dhhiaaeeai गुरमती आपु गवाइ नामु धिआईऐ Through the Guru's Teachings, eliminate ego, by meditating on Naam. ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਗਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ Dhoojee Kaarai Lag Janam Gavaaeeai दूजी कारै लगि जनमु गवाईऐ Undertaking any other task, they waste their lives in vain. Raag Maajh, Guru Nanak Dev With the first line, Guru Sahiban is telling us that, through Gurmat, we can eliminate our ego, our haume, our bondages, our attachments with this mayavee and perishable creation, which so much we love; to the extent, that we sacrifice our lives, such as .... in the name of my land, my caste, my creed...and thus our lives are wasted away. We run constantly after shadows of this world, by turning away our faces away from where the Light cometh. We are like bats, in the darkness of this kali yug, such as rites, rituals, pilgrimages, fasting, rules and regulations, we open our eyes wide open. But when it comes to Nam Simran, we say, no no, that alone is not sufficient, we must do some more things, in order to be better followers of our path. But then in the next line, in order to remove all our fears, all our brahams, He clearly says: apart from Nam Bhakti, anything we may do, however good it may appear to be, is as good as to waste away one´s life....means it has no value, as per our goal in pursuing our union with the almighty Akal Purukh.

  3. Can anyone, with a blog/website/both related to Khalistan, explain something to me? A few years ago I heard about the case of a man whose family was detained at the Indian airport because he was involved in some pro-Khalistan group overseas. To my brothers who are involved in such groups what happens when you go to India or need police clearance from there? Do they detain you on the basis of the organisations you support, webpages you make and comments you put on fb? Is it entirely random or they do it to people who illustrate an intent? Can we say there is a degree of discrimination involved or is it the effects of an inept bureaucracy?

  7. In times of Christ, a prostitute was going to stoned by the crowd, and then Christ said, raise your arms and throw stones those who are free of sins .... that very moment they brought their arms down, all who were eager and ready to stone her.... The society in which we live, is the same today. Each and everyone is ready to judge and cut throats of others. One of Wahiguru´s name is also "Sad Bakshanhaar" .As long as you have life to breathe, He is ready to pardon you, just take His Name with love and devotion in your heart, so that He abides within us, and we no more ever come under the negative influence of the mind to fall so low. But on the contrary, be filled with His Light, and shine with His virtues of truthfulness, gyan and budh, so to say, to face any situation with courage and dignity, as long as we are in this phisycall frame. 8. Above is all coming from puratan granth-Gur Shabad Sidhi (Shardha Puran Granth) (Bhai Mani Singh Ji) punjabi -faith building granth used in puratan samparda's where certain shabads are given for bhagti help, health improvement, spiritual/social/religious issues/hindrances social-religious/spiritual/economic prosperity.. approach is also bit like kids beginning like approach as kids have strong faith in anything, when parent want its kid to jaap of vahiguroo, usually greed (lalach) is given in return- baba farid when he was small he was given greed by his parents if he does jaap of vahiguroo, he would get gur(shakar ganz) equilavent to candy every day from vahiguroo, so in this way one is slowly attached with gurbani, once its attached with gurbani one feel naturally de-attached from world if one is receptive enough as one point gurbani mantra/pauri draw seeker in. I agree its bit of slippery slope but why worry? Everything is in hakum, Gurbani knows best how to draw people in when where and how when once one started do its jaap with receptivity full faith without egoic self coming in a way everything happens , traditionally in gurbani we have bhagat dhru who did bhagti for raaj initially and then got saved later on when jaap drawed him in fully and also baba farid sakhi doing jaap of vahiguroo for candy when he was kid. 9. Both methods are parvaan. Doing loudly first and listening to it will increase your concentration, otherwise there is danger of you start doing it with repetation, but because you know it, you won't necessarily listen to it, but just complete it for the sake of doing it in auto-mode. With regards to the granthi, you should have asked him, whats the need for eating food everyday? Once you have eaten it once, you know what it tastes like. In the same way gurbani is the food for our soul. Doing nitnem everyday is required to constantly remind our forgetfull mind of gurus message and feeds the soul. prabh baanee sabadh subhaakhiaa || The Word of God's Bani, and His Shabad, are the best utterances. gaavahu sunahu parrahu nith bhaaee gur poorai thoo raakhiaa || rehaao || So constantly sing them, listen to them, and read them, O Siblings of Destiny, and the Perfect Guru shall save you. ||Pause||

  10. My two pennies worth to this discussion: As long as your mind is taking in the Gurbanee you are reading then I don't think it matters whether it is loud or in your surtee. By "Taking in" I mean is whether the mind interpreting what is being read. Its this contemplating that Guru Sahib wants and there's a number of different techniques that GurSikhs, mahapursh and other enlightened people advise to wannabes like me. For me personally, I have to start off reading Gurbanee slow and loud. This helps focus and concentration. If the slow and loud reading still doesn't tame the mind then repeating lines can help and even adding a sampat can kick the mind into thinking about what is being read rather than just robotic repetition. Once the focus and concentration is there and the mind is taking in the Gurbani you can switch to reading in your Surtee if you like. Your whole lifestyle as well past karams have an impact on reaching a still mind.

  12. One of them approached me at the local pharmacy. And told me that he was from a land far away (82 km) was a Brahmchari (I could understand that) and was looking for donations (who isn't?) and was also looking for a Mr. Singh (I couldn't see any other Singhs around other than him and me in the mirror). Than he tried telling me about this great book he had in his hands (essence of the Vedas etc) I told him I had to go to the bank and he had the audacity to ask for a donation of $10-$100. That my friend is today's religion. Out on the street and making cash. Amen!

  16. Yes off course, another reason traditionally they start off with longer mantra like for eg- mool mantra is to still mind further and also to make stamina of mind (for lack of better word) to hold intensity of mantra , but when one sees progress mind is becoming still and mind but rather surti can endure parkash/dhun/energy/gyan of gurbani, they can switch back from mool mantra to maha mantra (up to gurparsad) or gurmantra-vahiguroo do dhian or jaap.

  18. The problem with debating Muslims is that often they use Taqiya and if that is exposed the entire moot turns into a shouting match. I cannot remember her name exactly, but an ex-Syrian and also an ex-Muslim, was invited to a debate by Al-Jazeera T.v. Her opponent was a well-versed Koranic cleric who kept on dominating the debate by shouting at her, interrupting her whenever she was about to speak, and demeaning her because she was a woman. Ultimately she told him to shut his trap (bluntly) and then what followed was 11 minutes of cleric raving as her opponent attempted to grapple with her. She even wrote a book which drew upon her experiences in the Muslim world, 'A God who hates,' and cited how every debate she has had with a Muslim turned into a shouting fiasco when the latter realized the ineptness of their creed and debate. And this isn't your usual run of the mill believer. This even extends to University students, professors, politicians etc.

  22. If one is reciting gurbani or gurbani mantra over and over again to still the mind or dhian on shabad dhun (Dhun mein Dhyan, Dhyan Mein Janya ) in shabad surat thats a different story and its totally acceptable. However, if one is reciting gurbani over and over again as a robot, only as sense of duty with preconditioning (for very beginning is fine to build concentration but not intermediate or long term) without prem (unconditional love without any conditions), without receptivity-openness to receive, bairaag, without bibek- tyaag of bad attributes panj chor and adapting sat(honesty/intergrity-truth), santokh, gyan, vichar can easily be turned into dogma/karam kaand which is condemned in gurbani and also in gurbani by sri dasam patsah- akaal ustat. If the unmutterable Lord can be realised by the repetition of His Name, then a small bird called pudana repeats "Tuhi, Tuhi" (Thou art everyting) all the time. In Soraj parkash granth there is parsang but once - sikhs did benti to sri guru gobind singh ji by saying- we have been reciting gurbani every day for long hours- how come its not bringing change compare to other singhs. Guru maharaj addresses to sangat. Gurbani is like a medicine. Patient need to take medicine totally inside before it could do its effect. Those who have complaints blame yourself because you are actually not taking gurbani as medicine inside but rather doing gargles of medicine and spiting out. Hence, having no effect .!! Similarly its also like - one is wearing full shield of egoic rigid mindset of preconditioning/closeness yet expecting gurbani arrow to pierce one heart without initial effort of an seeker. Gurbani is like liquid medicine, it will only take effect when patient takes mediciation fully inside not just gargle the medicine and spit it out. We have moral duty to discourage that kind of religious dogmatic mindset or mentality crept into our panth. Path of Sikhi is double edge sword, very very slipperly slope and have many land marks, if landmarks are not perceived in right manner with bibek, child like love and bairaag and in context of development stages that could itself become a road block, anything and everything could be road block. Basically, flow of human consciousness connected with gurbani (free from egoic mind) in sikhi should be spontaneous and natural and fluid as very nature of gurbani In layman terms, be honest/have integrity/sincerity- sat with yourself..it goes long long way.. if you cannot witness yourself progressing-seeing overall peace in your nature, diving in dephtness of gurbani and start naturally having sat gun attributes listed above naturally and naturally rising above from panj chor while doing nitnem or following any maryada for that matter than there is a big problem.... not with the ritual itself but with your perception itself while you are engaging in maryada..there is a big problem..get up from asan, drop everything (i meant not literally) yeah drop everything, go humbly to dhan dhan dhan sri guru granth sahib to ardas and take hukamnama, if its meant to be- guru maharaj himself will destroy all the doubts inside you, free you from shackles from idolized form of shariat one themselves are created and is now an trap..!!

  24. I don't think even the Dawah man knows. Such fools are sent on the streets and rely on peoples' ignorance to impress them. One of the so called literacy miracles of the Quran is that in the verse there are grammatical shift which include changes in person, addressee, change in tense etc. So when the person speaking says I in one place, WE further down the verse and HE later on means that this is a miracle and not shoddy editing! The reason this is a miracle is that no other or very few other Arabic literature contains these ...er mistakes!

  31. More trouble brewing. Maybe in the west we are not understanding the implications of all these incidents. "Nak tay makhi behan nahi deni,Sir the pagdi rehan nahi deni" is a dangerous slogan, reminds me of the hindu mobs in Delhi 1984 saying “kach, kara, kirpan, bhejdo pakistan”. Energies are spent lobbying for Khalistan but the foundations are still weak. It looks like Punjab needs our help now and the global Sikh community has to do what they can to back the right people. For a racist mob to enter Taraan Taran and taunt the Sikh Kaum with such slogans clearly shows how intense the situation in Punjab really is and how politically weak we actually are in Punjab.

Veer ji, i couldnt get what u want to say , could you please repeat that..sorry i'm lil dumb @ Veer I think he meant, if we look at the rehit maryada - here whats written in the definition of Sikh - When he meants 'some random guy who claims to be Sikh' he meant some moorakh on the street who doesn't fufill above or follow the reit because - Rehit Bina Nai Sikh Kahavai So FRom What I understand he meant any , moorakh, like me, who doesn't follow the rehit, and hasn't taken Amrit as a person isn't a Sikh before taking 'Amrit' stil if someone asks my religion I respond 'I belong to Sikhism' so a 'random guy who claims to be a sikh' i s a Guy like me, a moorakh who hasn't taken Amrit yet sorry for making it so long bhull chukk maaf GurFAteh
