  1. Here's an old booklet I found in a Gurdwara years ago. It was distributed from a Gurdwara in Teheran in 1965. You won't find anything about Sikhi in there though, it's like a european 'Sikhism' narrative: https://www.scribd.com/document/54989885/An-introduction-to-Sikh-belief-by-Mrs-P-M-Wylam

  2. A big part of it I think are these things: The majority of us are (how can I put it?) economically constrained, rural people with limited options and broader cognitive capabilities. For hordes of us, the Sikh identity is essentially secondary to a primary one, which is usually caste/regional/tribe based (or whatever people want to try and mask it as these days). Not only does islam have an ingrained 'them and us' (binary) conceptualisation of the world, recent cultural clashes echo very old ones for them (european crusaders) which is an emotive issue for them, and a matter of pride; compare this to many of our lot who still hail their subjugation by the brits as some sort of fortunate 'stroke of luck' for us! Even promoting their forefather's compliance to the invaders in their adventures as a good, admirable thing rather than slavery. lol Clear consistent definitions (i.e. the pillars etc.) which give people clear and simple guidelines towards inclusion and a identity. We could go on, but suffice to say, many apnay and apneean aren't primed enough to be able to combat and resist temptation from baharlay bundhay. So their greed, ambition, lust etc. over-ride the weak-a55 identity they have. For many of those who don't buckle, it very often seems to be a matter of intrinsic stubbornness and self-worth as a Sikh that stops them compromising and enables them to endure the consequences of this.

  4. That's a big question. It's late, so I won't even bother trying to answer now. But will try tomorrow. I'm not sure if we can ever get a clear answer btw, but we should be able to get into the ball park.

  5. Sikhi inspires fierce loyalty without fear of any consequence except from the world istelf. The Chali Mukte became Shaheed after the great majority were allowed to simply walk away, having the necessary signatures disvowing the Guru Sahiban. During the midst of battles, most other forces abuse, or kill deserters, dissenters etc. Nobody at normandy was allowed to leave. And most of them had not decided to go. We may encourage, and socially influence people to stay good Sikhs, and a lot of that is the love all families have that want to see their kin do well. Screening for grooming and coercion by outside elements requires the rest of the diligence for those on their way out. Our loyalty to the death was always to death by outside forces, not our supposed own.

  6. The concept of seva can be taken to it's extreme means taking selflessness in every aspect of your life. Putting your self last is seen as a noble act. However, extreme selflessness can be one of the worst form selfishness because you are doing selflessness for a reward and it is not really for altruistic reasons. If your satisfy your needs first and you are santokhi then any form of seva you are doing you are not expecting anything back in return. The altruism will be more genuine. How can you help others when you cannot even help yourself first?

  7. I'm always suspicious about this false misconception about political incompetence or stupidity. The media (who is ultimately part of the same rotten system) deliberately circulates this idea that some politicians don't know what they're doing. I think you need to be if not intelligent at least somewhat cunning or calculating particularly when it comes to senior political posts. Labelling Priti Patel as useless or whatnot is a mistake. Why? Have we considered that she's been instructed NOT to get a grip on the migrant situation and then claim otherwise in her public declarations? If, as I've always believed, political parties are a sham and they simply continue the policies and work of each other over the decades, something as unreliably hollow as the electorate's democratic desire only gets in the way of these evil people's long-term plans.

  8. Depends on your definition of "Sikh Youth". If these so called "Sikh Youth" who are not following Gurus teaching then they are most welcome to do anything as they are not actually "Sikhs".

  11. They do not fight for or care about their true roots - Zoroastrianism, anymore. They're clueless. I wouldn't associate with them since they're a very materialistic and Godless people. They lack soul.

  14. Iranians are wonderful people, moreso Western ones. I know a few, and even with my critical eye, you can sense by reading between the lines that Islamic doctrine is just so removed from their natural, relaxed Persian demeanour, that it's an absolute tragedy that particular belief system was foisted upon them centuries ago.

  16. Eh, you judge Muslims for doing stuff against Islam, but you don’t say the same about Sikhs doing stuff against Sikhi and say it’s their choice. You also don’t seem very consistent throughout your posts on this thread from going from the Dutch man being a stranger you talk to, to saying you don’t talk to him anymore, and now most recently you are saying he’s your bf.

  17. I've been driving door dash a bit lately. It's interesting poor people, when they order food include a tip, because in their mind if they have enough to splurge and get something delivered this once they can afford to tip. And all the people from them up to the truly very wealthy don't seem to feel rich enough to tip yet. They're too busy forever chasing it. I guess the poor person is in many ways more wealthy, even in their mind. Sometimes those poorer orders are really small dude. Like they could have doubled their food if they didn't tip. I'll drop off an entire car load of groceries to a huge house and not get a dime dude. Be careful you remember you always have enough, always have enough to share. The translation of the Gurbani is the "Guru's Sikh always has enough, always enough to share" I can't find it right this second.

  18. Well, they will be friendly in public but secretly they look down upon us. I know for a fact they hate being associated with Indians or Pakistanis (even though they literally border one another) or even Arabs and think of themselves as more white. Forcing a theocracy (and enforcing religious doctrine and values) on a people who want anything but that will lead to cultural stagnation and decadence. You see Iranian people in the west renounce anything Islamic and instead adopt some sort of weird materialistic culture. I mean, despite our faults at least we are very proud of our religion, heritage, and customs & values (even the non religious and moneh Sikh). Yes I totally agree. People who were born in Sikh families yet haven’t taken Amrit are still very proud and supportive of Sikhi so I see no reason why to act superior or not support them… maybe they will find the proper path themselves one day. I mean, that is better than hating on them all the time. *cough*

  19. The best muslim I know is divorcing dude probably, because of how inbalanced their roles are, she's like an allstar and he's just an unapprecaitive <banned word filter activated>, but she is keeping islam. So far. I will say they are far more strict about alcohol, not tobacco though. There's no excuse for Sikhs drinking except the few Mona etc who are trying to stop.

  21. As already mentioned, it has to got to the House of Lords next, they used to have the power to reject Bill's that come from the house of commons but Cameron severely restricted that when he was in power with a number of parliamentary acts, they can send it back if they don't like certain texts in a bill for revision, they can delay an act of legislation for up to a year but ultimately the house of commons has more power now.

  22. You can force someone to practice religious rituals and such, and to adhere to a strict codified law; however, strict religious doctrine without love for God/Allah/Vaheguru is essentially useless; and once they go to a free society where such religious restrictions aren’t required by law; they tend to drop the act of pretending to religious on the outside, but believing in nothing on the inside. It’s part of the reason that I’ve moved away from the idea that we should make everyone Amritdhari when they don't have any interest in building prem with Vaheguru.

  24. I think it's political theatre with rather sinister undertones that people choose not to observe because they'so wracked with their desire to indulge in tribalism. It's not helped by the intellectual quarters of the media who lend the sham legitimacy by reporting on it as if the whole endeavour was above-aboard. While I don't believe every single MP is in on the conspiracy, but certainly those who rise to Prime Minister and similar levels are aware, in even a vague sense, that they aren't really in control of anything meaningful. The public displays of disparity in ideology are nonsense. Like I said, when one government of one particular party is voted out and replaced by a new government of the opposing political party, if they were truly ideologically in opposition as they would have us believe with their sham shouting matches in parliament (and, more specifically, the manner in which the opposing ideological wings of the media relish perpetuating the "battle" narrative), the swing from the political vision of the former imcumbents to the present would be noticeable in the policies they implement, and, in all frankness, such visible course correction in each instance would be observable and volatile. But there's nothing of the sort. It's one long continuation of the same policy, the only change is the "front" offered to placate the voters. If the "root" ideology has been established as insurmountable and unchangeable regardless of who gets in power, then the only difference they offer to the people are the slight variations in the flavour of what's offered as a "choice" to the electorate. I'm not suggesting this was always the case, particularly in the past, but certainly since post-War decades coming into the 21st century there really is NO choice for people to vote their way out of issues plaguing them.

  27. Don't get me wrong. It's kinda dumb to be chaste, join with another chaste person, and not practice with them the only thing you can do with them and no other. Treat it like a cardio training regimen bro. Go acroyoga with it and meditate. Why not? Or don't. I'm just saying the picture is far broader than that unique passtime. Masturbation breaks the body, sex with a female is healthy because there is an exchange energetically and chemically that balances out. With somebody you don't have to use protection with is the real deal. So if that isn't your wife it's safe with who? She'd have to be barren, disease free, and only into you, which ...is a long shot bro. So if you're dodging Kaam by sending in occasional payments on the sly, you'd be better off with a woman.

  30. have you considered the guy could be a pakistani because he referred to your 'desi' culture and the fact that he is happy with you being isolated and fully dependant on him (gives narcissist/abuser vibes ) I would stop communicating with him . No one with a little sense would share everything about their life with a total stranger within days of starting aconversation . Oversharing is a major problem in our girls and many girls take advantadge .

  34. To OP, Show him the video. Ask him that if they are teaching the same stuff as in the Gurdwara, then why is going to them? He can still experience Sikhi as he is. Don’t pressure him to take Amrit, that God will grace themselves and when he feels ready to. He feels he can’t keep up with rehat, so he’s trying to find an easy way to fulfill his desire. And he thinks by going to them, it will be easier as it sounds all less easier, but he doesn’t realise he’s be following a person, rather than Guruji. What’s wrong if he does Waheguru Simran and Mool Mantar? Tell him he is able to do that and explain the meaning of them by showing him a meaning of them. It also because your family is going there, so he’s more likely to listen to them, rather than just one of you. But one of you can make the difference if God graces it. Is a difficult situation to be in, because he won’t listen, but is there any friends of his who are able to help you? Some of our relatives have become Radha Soami, and they have changed a lot. A paji of ours used to be so loving and caring towards me, and we used to talk about spiritual things, but since going there he’s become kind of like he’s more knowledgable than others. He doesn’t say much, but it’s just from his behaviour and they don’t seem to mingle as they used to before. Also, their personality has changed, although others say it hasn’t, but I feel it has, they’ve become more chust as you would say, but in a negative way. The bhabhi gives the odd sarcastic remark or try’s to infer things through conversation. She never used to do this before, and she was one of my best bhabhis. I just don’t feel like talking to them nowadays as they seem not interested in the interpersonal communication.
