  1. Whether dehli airport or amritsar Airport, both have got a taxi kiosk INSIDE the airport itself. Once you have collected luggage, the last part of the airport before you exit the airport building, you have the last restaurant or two, currency exchange and also a taxi kiosk. You go to the kiosk and tell them where you need the taxi to - if I remember correctly you get a slip with a number on it and get told to go to the relevant area just outside the airport. Your driver will approach you and should tell you the same number you have on the slip to prove they are your taxi driver. Price will have been arranged inside with the kiosk people already. I'm not sure if the system has changed but the taxi kiosk inside inside airport should definitely be safe I believe. The only issue I can see with the above is that I'm not sure if the airport one will take you all the way to moga (or if they do,not sure if they will give you a difficult rate). In this case what I can suggest is getting the airport taxi to a reputable hotel nearby. E.g. marriot or hyatt etc. Stay the night and get them to arrange you a taxi for your longer journey to moga. Another option if you land in Sri Amritsar Sahib is to get the airport taxi to take you up to Harmandar Sahib. Once at Harmandar Sahib there is a road where all the saraan (sgpc guesthouses for sangat) are , this is the road which leads up to baba atal rai ji gurdwara /kaulsar sahib gurdwara , it is just to one side of Harmandar Sahib about 3 mins away. On this road there should be some taxi ranks - i have used one there which I think has since closed down, but I would hope any of those stalls would be trustworthy as they are based in quite a prominent position so would probably want to avoid bad pr. Finally india has apps such as uber and an india only equivalent called "ola". There are also big taxi companies like "megacabs" which you can book over the phone. Dressing as a nihang singh in india generally leads to being dealt with with respect. As for hotels, you may struggle in moga. Websites like Expedia and booking.com will have hotel listings. Unless someone gives you you recommendation, it is better to stay in a known international chain hotel.on the better end you have marriott, hyatt, Ramada , you also have decent hotels like best western, holiday Inn etc. They are in bigger towns and cities like amritsar Sahib, Jalandhar, chandigarh, ludhiana etc

  2. California has the largest Sikh community. But other areas are dangerous. I don’t think there’s a Southall in the USA. Or even like Surrey (Canada).

  4. Why is the Hindu fanatic group RSS so concerned about Sikh conversions in Punjab to Christianity? What about the Sikh genocide in 1984 in Hindustan. In reality they only care about Hindu Dalits in Punjab who in large numbers are converting. Be beware of both of these groups Hindu or Christian. They want to finish Sikhi in Punjab.

  5. Honestly a lot of Hindus hold the gurus in praise due to nationalist reasons. We have a lot of respect from a lot of people, and sometimes we ourselves divide ourselves too much from all communities .

  8. The Malwa region of Punjab was blessed by Guru Gobind Singh. The following all originated from Malwa and spread Sikhi in the region:- 1) Rara Sahib 2) Nanaksar 3) Reru Sahib 4) Bhindran Jatha (Damdami Taksal) 5) Mastuana 6) Bhai Randhir Singh (Akhand Kirtani Jatha).

  11. The Sikhs that join the services is going to be a tiny minority. The modern forces probably focuses more on logistics, engineers etc more than being front-line. I have works quite a few ex-military in the telecomms industry. They tend pick up a lot of signalling/engineering skills that come in handy in their post-military career. I think the Anglo-Sikh angle gets over-played too much. Sikhs that do join up are looking at more pragmatic reasons than some romantic notions

  12. We should also remember that Sikh regiments in the raj were heavily under surveillance lest they got their own ideas (which many soldiers did and ended up on the west coast). Their letters were censored and brits had informants planted throughout. Sikhs are very unlikely to join the brit army in droves now. Many people (sadly not all) are getting clued up about the realities of the raj for Sikhs, and aren't so keen to be canon fodder or tokenistic figures. What the above is basically saying is that: "We don't trust you enough to give you your own regiment." They've got good reason too, with a rise in nostalgia for Sikh sovereignty and the brits own vested interests in modern 'India'.

  13. I've always had a deep problems with folks accepting things like obe's, mbe's , awards from Lizzie etc. Apart from the fact that you kneel before royals to accept them (I thought us Sikhs only bowed to Maharaj ).. you also kneel before what those people represent and kind of take an oath to them. Many of these folks who drone on about racism , empire etc...can't run fast enough to pick up their 'awards' from that very establishment (empire). Very hypocritical. Suppose Arungzeb's ancestors were around, would you you be cool with accepting a Member of the Mughal Empire ? If you look at what the British did to the Sikh Raj and to our systems and beliefs it's not far off Arungzeb's , in fact Id say the British did a better job at weakening Sikhi. As for this 'celebration' of Sikhs fighting for the British in world wars etc... The reason was that the British paid well. Go to India not a single statue or commemoration of 'indians' who fought for the British. But you have loads of statues for Bose and his Indians (including plenty of Sikhs) who fought against the British interests in ww2. These awards by the establishment basically are awards for compliance and a nudge nudge wink wink that you'll toe the establishment line going forward. I personally have an infinite amount of respect for folks like Benjamin Zephaniah who stick to their principles, rather than selling their souls to the lot who killed and persecuted our ancestors https://www.theguardian.com/books/2003/nov/27/poetry.monarchy

  14. Cool, maybe one day we'll be on the same page? Seeing those farmers get run over shook me up a bit. I think most of us know where we have to go as a quom, it's going to be brutal. I grew up in the shadow of the last time Sikhs tried to regain their sovereignty. It's an ugly business.

  19. what a dumb thread. How our Hindus to blame for 1984. it was the Indian government and its goon who are to be blamed. likewise with Babri Masjid etc. you cant cary bad karma for something you have not committed. Hinduism has given a-lot to the world its more then a religion. it a way of live. its very diverse too. you can convert the whole of India to Christianity but you will not kill of Hinduism. its growing in other nations aswell. Resect all faiths.

    1 point
  26. To be fair, some of the local lockdowns are occurring in areas where there is more ethnic diversity. But it seems to be one particular ethnicity that seems to be prevalent in this when you look at the areas. You should be aware, they make up 25 percent of your town. I know of those chicken and "chaiwala " places on a particular road where no social distancing is being followed. Can you guess where it is yet? ?

  29. It’s time to kick out the terrorists. The west made a mistake of letting them in. They praise their Muslim lands yet choose to live in the west. They live in ghettos and don’t integrate because of Islam.
    1 point
  30. OK. But right now (and also in the near future when Muslim births outnumber all other communities), Sikhs aren't facing problems from whites trying to fight, kill or rape them. This is as opposed to the 1970s. So, protecting Sikhs would including being concerned about Islam. If you disagree, do you think Sikhs would fare well in a country full of Rotterhams?

  31. Yep down with Muslims and Sikhs are the bestest ?? Can we come out with some kind of award for Sikhs being so good?
    1 point
  32. Come on. A lot of these groups were originally patronised/funded/trained by some western nation as some sort of strategic move to oust some leader in a far off land. But that blew up in their face. What kills it is that these goray are so twisted they'd do exactly the same dumb political move again. The mind boggles. These people's kookars are coming home to rest. It's probably karmic returns for letting so many Sikh and white working girls get raped and abused for decades and still having the front to turn around and tell Sikhs that no such problem exists. That the goray still have time to write multiple reports about the 'problem' of Sikh 'extremists' in the UK and still deny grooming, maligning active Sikhs with some terrorism label - says a lot!! I say screw them and let them fight the problems they have created themselves (for a change). These people made their own bed - let them lie in it. Sikhs protect your own community (the panth!). And I say don't worry about extending that to any snivelling, sycophantic gadaar amongst our own whose more bothered about currying up to establishment goray than watching out for his/her own Sikh brothers and sisters.

Then what have we got left. Where are all these so called khalistanis and brave warriors now? Time to show what we are made of or become cowards and run away.

  39. firstly our daughters did not make this up, she got assaulted and was taken to hospital, the other girls with her highlighted what happened and the guy I assume was thrashed that's why he apologised and fled the scene . Then later the same day the mob took to the streets shouting slogans 'we will give them a taste of 1984' . Truth is , scum like this feel entitled to attack sikhs based on jealousy, based on greed, based on knowledge the police are too few to counter them . They didn't need an excuse to attack my family in Siliguri with iron rods because my Grandfather dismissed a thief who happened to be bengali . Luckily the compound was the type to be secure and the family quarters were high up and all the sikh families were close knit. they arrested my Nanaji , my Mama ji and my teenage cousin for a murder but surprisingly no body could be produced or name supplied .. leaving my Nani ji and Mamian and female cousins without a male protector but the other families rallied . The case was dropped but no sikh family forgot this and beefed up their security.

  40. I think it is one of those North Eastern states that converted end masse to Christianity after partition. In India and the rest of the subcontinent, it does not matter if the non Sikh is Christian, Muslim or Hindu whether they are hindutva or congress, or whatever region they come from,we are sitting targets. The amount of time you hear about some minor petty dispute that escalates into something like what has happened, is too often. The reality that I am coming to realise more and more is that we need our own state. The reality is that human race is tribal and I know that Dashmesh Pita said that the human race is one, but I have to begrudgingly accept the moment the panj pyareh came into being, we became our own tribe. Of all 7 billion humans, I have to put my tribe of humans first. It is coming to the point in my mind my that if we ever get our own state, every non Sikh that tries to cause problems should be kicked out of our state, no ifs and buts. I don't care if it is a business owning Jain, loan shark baniya or migrating Up/Bihar Muslim or Gujjar, or some formerly low caste Christian or some Dera worshipping opportunist. If they are not Sikh and they cause problems, they are not wanted. They add no value to us, they are a liability.
