I've being talking to Sangat members and committee too, and am local from the area.

Keep the pressure on the committee and the sangat. The sangat are hiding behind the committee, and the committee are hiding behind the sangat. Bottom line is that sangat money given to Guru Granth Sahib Ji cannot be used for party halls.

Singhs were attacked. They are well known in amongst the UK Singhs.

Keep pressure on Sikh Channel too. They are side-stepping the issue - call them on 0121 380 1050. If it's a Panthic channel, it needs to take a stand on these types of issues.

When calling the Gurdwara, please speak calmly and with PYAAR. We don't want the Sharabi-Kebabis making negative propaganda against the Singhs.

Thank you for sharing your findings harjapbhangal

There is only one solution to this and that is taking maharaj's support going to that Gurdwara in masses of sangat. These evil, demonic people need to be shown that the Sikh Panth will not tolerate their behaviour.

Such pissheads who support this hall do not deserve to be call sangat, it does not matter that they held a meeting on the issue, such a meeting should not have been held in the first place, they cannot decide tomorrow to hold a meeting whether or not to bring moortia to the Gurdwara. Its also rubbish that they wish to exclude 'outside' sangat from the matter. A Gurdwara Sahib is not anyone's personal property, the same Maharaj that is parkash there is the same maharaj parkash at any other Gurdwara, it is a matter for the whole panth what happens there.

It does not matter that there is a brick wall seperating the hall, in essence these people are making the pavitar Gurdwara Sahib perform a dual function. Their response about getting money from the panth is plain insulting, these people don't seem to know what they are talking about as on the one hand they are saying no one should interfere with the Gurdwara but then saying that someone should have told them not to build the hall when they were gathering funds. Hypocritical to say the least.

They should be asked why they do not use the hall for Gurmat purposes such as educating the youth, looking after elders, etc. but clearly their agenda is totally opposite to Gurmat aims.

At the end of the day the place giving out amrit bani should not be run by and nor should funds be shared between that and a place where alcohol, meat, etc. will be. These people have already incurred a huge karmic debt on themselves and soon enough the panth will also put a stop to such actions.

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

In response to the claims of the Grays Gurdwara Prabhandak committee that the Party Hall is a separate entity from the main Gurdwara Sahib and therefore the activties will be mutually exclusive to one another.

As mentioned earlier, over the years some of the Gurdwara Prabhabndak committees have formulated loopholes around the whole meat, alcohol and party hall issue. In some instances, the separation of the hall is justified by walls, sealed doors or the formation of a different committee.

In the example of Grays Gurdwara, the building complex is an L-shape. On the ground floor exists the langar hall, toilets and the party hall (where meat and alcohol will be served). The first floor has the main darbar hall, the second darbar hall, punjabi class rooms and the granthi's flat. The sachkhand is located on the second floor. The one car park exists through the whole complex. Please refer to illustration below of the Gurdwara complex layout.

The architecture of this complex makes it impossible to isolate the manmat activities related to the party hall from the gurmat activies of the Gurdwara sahib. Further to the moral detrimental effect this will have on the Grays Sikh community, it is also in direct violation to what the Sikhs' most respected and highest seat of authority (Sri Akal Takht Sahib) clearly states in the Sandesh.

SinghWarrior I too am from the Grays area, and attend this Gurdwara. I however do not fully agree with your statement "The sangat are hiding behind the committee, and the committee are hiding behind the sangat"

Not all of the committee members agreed to the serving of meat and alcohol. In fact 8 of them publically stood up and rejected this absurd request only to be treated with disrespect or being ignored by the other 4 members, and some of the sangat.

Some of the 'against' sangat that are fairly new to the Gurdwara or don't live in the Thurrock area and are against the serving of meat and alcohol have been patronised or treated with contempt by those committee members and sangat 'for'. They were told that they either didn't have a voice on the matter or didn't know what's best for the sangat living there for many years. To ensure a win, those 'for' also brought members of their family that do not necessarily attend the Gurdwara on a regular basis to boost their 'for' vote. As God's house, we Sikhs should ALL have a say in the running of this or any other Gurdwara, whether we live in the borough or not.

All I can say is that there are many hypocrites within the sangat. On one side they show the community that they are holier than thou, reading from the Guru Granth Sahib, doing seva, raising money for the Gurdwara, and on the otherside fighting for meat and alcohol to be served in 'close' proximity to the Guru Granth Sahib. There may be a separate entrance to the community hall in question, however there is still a link through the Langar hall.

I would also like to add that no-one has the right to hit another person, and what angers me the most is the lack of respect those fighting have shown in our Guru's house, a place meant to be for peace, contemplation, worship, and being at one with God.

Thanks harjapbhangal for the info but reading what these people have said I am amazed at how disjointed and fake their stories are. I originate from Rainham and can assure you that Barking Gurdwara is attended by most of the Sangat from the area's you have mentioned I have never heard Sikh's from Dagenham say Thurrock GRAYS is their local Gurdwara????

I find it an absolute disgrace that these misguided sangat of Grays have given monies to the GuruGhar on the proviso that the refurbished hall can be used for parties which include meat/alcohol! Some of them blatantly are asking for their money back or someone to buy the building if they can't be intoxicated and dance to "captain bhangre da".

'His speech is false and he takes what isn't his, but still he goes out to preach to others. He, who himself is deceived, will deceive his associates as well. Nanak says, such are the leaders of men today.'

(of Majh, Shloka, M. 1 : Guru Granth Sahib Jee)

Hang you heads in shame you befkoofs when reality will hit and your faith is tested will you then say "Oh Waheguru you have not given me what I want a brand new mobile and gold teeth I am joining the Punjabi Christian Channel" BUT who they gonna turn to next when Jesus dos'nt give them a diamond toothbrush?????

The hall is part of the Gurdwara property and no matter how many doors, windows fences they put up to divide the Gurdwara from the Hall - ALL of it has been bought by religious donations from the Sikh Community.

Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaehguru Ji Ki Fateh!

In response to the actions taken against the Grays Gurdwara Prabhandak committee. The following have been done by various sewadars around the UK and Punjab:

  • Full details of issue sent directly to Sri Akal Takht Sahib and presented in front of Punj Singh Sahiban on 6th June 2010. Awaiting feedback.
  • Details of issue distributed to Sikh/Punjabi media, including Sikh Channel, Punjab Radio, Akash Radio, Sukhsagar Radio, Amrit Bani Radio, Des Pardes and Punjab Times. No response as yet. As of today only Panthic.org have published an article on the issue.
  • Article to be mail shot to all European Gurdwaras urging their action on this issue. Sewa to be completed this week.

We are also aware that other sewadars have been in contact with some prominant Panthic Jathebhandis in the UK as well as India. A number of these influential Jathebhadis have also made direct contact with Sri Akal Takht Sahib (including a direct discussion with Jathedar Ji) and SGPC.

To all those who think that this is the "sangat" decision

This is what Maharaj says:

"satsangat is where the Divine Name alone is cherished" (Ang 72).

"Satsangat is the Guru's own school where one practises godlike qualities" (Ang 1316).

So these people cannot be termed sangat

pissheads who eat meat- yes , Gurujis sadhsangat - no

If you think this is sangat then you must think that eating meat, drinking alcohol and attacking Gursikhs are GOD like qualities.
