Sadda Haq goes viral

Banned on the eve of its release on April 5 by the Punjab government for the sake of "communal harmony", Sadda Haq has gone viral on YouTube. It is based on militancy era in Punjab. A team of officers led by the chief secretary found some of its dialogues, scenes and a song objectionable. The filmmakers, who earlier said they would move court against the ban, have now written to the Akal Takht to get the ban revoked. Incidentally, it was the SGPC that had helped the controversial film get the green signal from the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal after the censor board had refused to release it.

Sun, sand and Sukhbir

In high spirits since the SAD-BJP's poll victory, Sukhbir Badal has rewarded ministers and MLAs with a "vichar sammelan" on Goa's beaches. Nearly 120 leaders have stayed four days at luxury hotels Taj Fort Aguada and Taj Holiday Village resort at Candolim beach. The official line is that the conclave is taking stock of the government's performance and formulating a strategy for the Lok Sabha polls. The Congress sees it as Sukhbir's way of rewarding "jathedars who win him elections by any means". PCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa said, "Sukhbir is indeed giving the party a new look. The long-bearded jathedars are wearing bermudas and frolicking on the beaches of Goa."
