Indians don't understand subtlety. You have to understand that the vast majority of Indians are stupid. The average IQ is 82.

Everything has to be spelled out to them in a movie.

You certainly don't sugar-coat things. ūüėÜ

In their defense, the younger generation in the large urban centres are a lot better in that regard. They actually seem to be developing a self-deprecating sense of humour, which is interesting. Our Punjabis are still a little behind in that sense.

What we are essentially missing is the fact that Bollywood and Indian TV is created for the masses who consist of low income daily wagers who want to escape their daily realities hence why the over the top sequences and repeated images to make a point. The writers of these serials and movies tend to be males and have no understanding of female perspectives. This is why probably every Bollywood movie has a rape scene and the female characters are portrayed as in the first instance hating the hero and then when he pays some ruffians to fake an attack or rape attempt against the female and he rescues her, she falls instantly in love with him! Can you imagine how traumatised a female would be from such an attack and in the real life would need counselling but in Bollywood Bullshyt land she's happily singing and dancing a few seconds later!

A couple months back I was at a grocery store in Delhi. The guy at the counter seemed to be a bhaiiya but was trying to speak Punjabi with me since I'm visibly a Sikh. He wasn't too bad at it but you could clearly guess that Punjabi was not his mother tongue. I was responding to him in Punjabi as well. Meanwhile, some auntie in her 40s who was clearly not Sikh (could be Hindu) was overhearing and interrupted him and said why are you speaking Punjabi when you can't. The guy was in his own zone and didn't care for the lady lol. I could feel the hidden contempt in her voice towards the Punjabi language. I'm pretty sure the guy had just watched some Punjabi movie or had been listening to Punjabi songs.

Punjabi films have increased in popularity in recent years and it could be correlated in that Bollywood films do not seem to be as popular.

So much so that the HP Khatris that run Bollywood and predominantly act in Bollywood have 'discovered ' their Punjabi roots.

It may not be a bad thing because what you are seeing is soft power.

It seems that Punjabi may have some cultural influence on others.

other than producing good comedy movies, punjabi cinema has produced many non comedy excellent movies like

ardaas part 1 &2

daana paani

sardaar Mohammad

qismat

rupinder Gandhi part 1 & 2

sikander part 1& 2

This is Bollywood brainwashing Sikhs into believing that their religion is less important than Hindustan. Note how he is ok with giving up his religion which is 500 years old  but cannot say Murdabad to an artificial country which is only a few months old at that time!

That's true though    they live in a depressing country the last thing they want to do is pay for a ticket to watch some realistic film making. All they want is hero, actress, villains, some comedy and a item song and then they back to reality. It's the same with punjab.

Its like escapism

I think one of the reasons amitabh became so popular in the 70s was because he mostly played the role of an hard working orphan caught up in the corruption of the rich.

Who remembers this? Lmao¬† ūüėĄ¬†

Indians got crazy after this scene. The movie was a great hit.

The scene shows a sardaar jatt ready to give up Sikhism and accept Islam but not ready to say Hindustan murdabad.

this is wat Indian agencies want.

Faith shud be secondary for Sikhs and india shud come first.

i think its bit different in punjab.

punjabi mundaas r different from bhayaas.

bhayaas see Salman Khan shirtless and doing some fake action and go crazy.

the dirty item songs u see in bollywood, u don't see in punjabI movies.

Lmao that's really  weird    sometimes I flick through the indian channels and the bhaiyas seem more excited about salman taking his shirt off than the females lmao.

Another weird thing about indian programmes  like the award functions, "talent"shows etc  is the male judge or the host of the show always go onto the stage and take their shirt off and every starts clapping   lmao    wth is that.

Its true actually   people who have seen indian movies, dramas and shows would know that punjabi movies and shows are a lot better actually!

Theres some really saucy risky stuff on indian tv shows these days! I was watching bigg boss the Indian version of big brother reality tv show, and the female contestants stripped down to their undies and started swinging and dancing around a pole while the male contestants got a hose pipe and started showering them with water!  There even was a singh who was doing that!

I dnt understand how indians can sit with their families and watch that!  I was actually shocked.

I've said it before, but somehow Pakistani artistry is leagues beyond the crass, one-dimensional nonsense that passes for entertainment in mainstream India. The amount of Pakistani music plagiarised by Bollywood music directors is evidence enough.

I agree iv seen some pakistani shows and music concerts on youtube and they dnt do the cheesy stuff, male strip tease, stupid jokes etc     they have an air of sophistication in their shows.

I guess it's because of their modest and conservative culture.

While indian culture is all brash and everything. And modesty is fast decreasing in indian culture.

Mainstream indian and paki entertainment are actually quite different.

I think that feeds into it, definitely. But then there's the other end of the spectrum whereby creativity is stymied by strict Islamic codes of conduct, which I wouldn't have a problem with if they were halfway intelligent, but when the Quran is your baseline to which everything is adjusted according to its decrees, you're going to end up with a seriously messed up moral  value system.
