Odd right. So apparently Sikhs are respected in Iran. Also, Iran sent some of their priests to meet with the Akaal Takht jathedar a couple of months ago (or year ago).

Geographically and historically Iran is very very interesting.

In the modern world it's hard to not lump them in with russia and turkey etc. They have a slave name as a nation still. But that could be anybody until order is restored.

The fact it was priests sent is interesting though. More compelling than politicians.

Eye on Iran for sure for all sorts of interesting.

Uh no? Please enlighten me on the symbolic meaning of Kaali. Truth of the matter, it was all cultural. It was symbolism. Doesn't mean we worship it.

The timelines and nature of Devte and their roles are clearly explained in Gurbani. Everyone used a dhal in battle too, and had it emblazoned on things, doesn't mean everyone was worshipping it. Agreed.

Don't see original post to respond.

Essentially they ransacked the country and left India destitute.  The name India was already commonplace as it was Christopher Columbus that went looking for it in 1492 and found America instead, hence naming of the Caribbean Islands, the West Indies

He went exactly where he wanted. That's a narrative. He found exactly who and what he was looking for. And did exactly what they intended.

Ah it was the President of the Religion faculty at a University in Iran wanting to start something with Sikhi. Probably an imam anyways.

Second video touches upon what EUROPEANS called modern day India - thus an influence for Columbus. Inhabitants of India didn't call it India. Common name was Hindustan, literally "Land of the Hindus," and Hind. Especially considering the context when the Gurus lived. Indian/Hindu was the same thing.

I've been confused about this. In a past post to @Suchi I said I didn't even like the word Hindu. I wanted to clarify and ask..

I though Hindu meant thief in Arabic and had been applied to the people and area. I heard Sant Jarnail Singh Bhinderwale Shaheed Ji say something like that. And that all the Vedas and Puranas etc use the word Brahman. So it left me feeling like using the word Hindu was nonsense and an insult ultimately to Vedic culture and its' people.

Oh shoot. Lemme watch that video...

I recently read a historical account on when the Afghans invaded Kashmir. Invaders used tie Kashmiri Hindu men with trees! they then used to place a pot full of poo and wee on his head and start target practicing using arrows! so when the arrow hit the pot all the poo and wee would dribble all over the Hindu! and if the arrow missed then it would obviously hit his face instead and he would die!

With the Hindu Kashmiri women, the Hindu men would disfigure the faces and bodies of the women hoping that the Pathans wouldn't kidnap them.

Kashmiris throughout the centuries have been considered the most attractive people of South Asia, so I'd imagine Kashmiri women were a popular target with the invaders. Its no surprise majority converted to Islam.

When Hari Singh Nalwa and Ranjit Singh began Sikh Raj in Kashmir, the locals were given the freedom of converting back to Hindu dharam and over 30,000 converted back. Many also became Sikhs as well.

Guru Tegh Bahadur ji saving Kashmiri Hindus is known by everyone in South Asia, but its forgotten that the same thing happened during the Sikh empire.

    • Been so much nindya and attacking Shastarvidiya since the 2000s, however if we look at gatka now it's still mostly as poor and poorly taught as it was back then, still morris dancing moves and still behzti moves in BBC shows about sikhi and vaisakhi. If people were going to attack shastarvidiya, wouldn't have made sense to improve gatka instead and make it more effective? Additionally, the Nihang Singh presence has improved greatly now, and the cracks within the the SGPC and affiliated jatha jathebandis are showing more greatly as panth becomes more knowledgable with dasam bani and itihas day-by-day, so much gyaan which was lost within panjabi sikhs during colonial times. In the 2000s, the groups were able to talk down this bani and  gyaan by associating it with  RSS and hindus, brahminwaad etc. Not working so well now is it? However with gyaan it would be also good for us to try and preserve our martial arts and keertan vidiya as well! More and more crazy keertan videos are coming out from jatha members that are being made fun of and making sangat annoyed and upset, on tiktok and instagram reels.

Being from Punjab, almost every Sardaarji i know (amritdhari or not) sleeps/showers with their hair uncovered. I don't think Guru Sahib asked us to wear Dastar to sleep and I don't think it is in SRM.   The idea of "keski being worn to sleep" is cos in Bollywood films (Bachna Ae Haseeno) Sikh characters usually tie a gol parna when sleeping since the actor's usually Hindu. So they gotta cover his head somehow or he'd have cut hair. Same reason Diljit wore a pagg to bed in the El Sueno vid. Only time they didn't do that was in Gadar with Sunny Deol which just looked odd tbh   What in the world? What sikh or even a decent human would base their knowledge of their culture or religion on a movie industry, that too Bollywood?  Believe me, no sikh ever said, I must cover my head becasue an actor did so in a movie. I've been doing it all wrong, I must start covering mh head because the sikh in that movie did.  Just because every panjabi and sardaar you know, does something, also doesn't make it right..  Follow the guru. And if you have a medical condition, then exemptions can be made.  Just admit it, because of my medical condition, I am not able to follow this rehit. Why are you getting everyone else to drop to your level?
    • Wasn't Guru Arjan Dev's martyrdom on amd always commemorated on 6th June? How come it was 30th May?  Just like 6th June 84, where the likes of Terrorists like Indira Gandhi chose to attack Darbar Sahib where many many innocent Sikhs would suffer, as they went to commemorate Martyrdom of Maharaj.
    • best thing is to follow the Sikh Rehat Maryada and use common sense for gray areas. Anything outside of that's irrelevant tbh that code is what Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the 5 Pyaare agreed on when creating Amrit in 1699
