Fake democracy, real terrorism Turning a blind eye to a nation's anti-democratic ways can have a high cost. The Air-India disaster is the proof. SAN GREWAL TORONTO STAR The public reaction to Wednesday's acquittal in the Air-India case has overlooked an important question: Was the terrorism exported to Canada from India a direct by-product of that state's long-standing anti-democratic policies? And, perhaps more importantly, does the title "democratic" give countries that are anything but a licence to operate darkly in the background while using the propped-up ideals of freedom as a veil? A month before the Air-India verdict, which found the two men accused in the …

vwihgurU jI kw Kwlsw! vwihgurU jI kI &iqh!! This is a serious topic, I apologise if it is sensitive issue to have on the forum. A Sikh sister emailed me in regards to a problem. The problem she was facing was that she has all of her life not dishonoured her kesh (she has not shaved/wax/cut hair). However family members, and ladies from the local Gurdwara sangat have questioned her on why she doesn't shave or wax. The pressure and insistance by other people to cut and shave her hair has made this Sikh sister question why she is going through the heart-ache of keeping Kesh (which she does out of the love of Guru Ji and following Guru' Hukam) if she is going …

Hi everyone, so, the run-down: I'm doing some art on Sikhism that I want all to be able to like (so Sikhs, Hindus, Whites, Blacks, everyone!). And I was wondering what kind of designs are Sikhi related? I was thinking I would use some actual pictures, such as a khanda or a Guru Jee, but I think it would be better if I just did pure design. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Wearing a Kalgi (a plume) on one’s turban signifies that the person is a royal person, a king and a person with great responsibility and respect. Unfortunately in recent years people have been following the practice of putting a Kalgi on the groom’s turban on the wedding day, which is ceremoniously removed in the Diwaan Hall in the Gurdwara Sahib by the groom’s sisters. Is wearing a Kalgi in accordance to Gurmat, the Guru’s way? Could you wear a Kalgi on your turban and walk inside the Golden Temple and not be stopped by fellow Sikhs or sewadaars? Is wearing a Kalgi in the house of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, our King who we call ‘Kalgiaa(n)vala’ (the one who wear’s the p…

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh I'm preparing a presentation about Sikhs in movies and films for a Sikh youth camp. I will be covering Sikh portrayal (both positive and negative) in movies, films, and the media along with different Sikh actors/actresses. As many of you probably know, Waris Ahluwalia starred in the hit Hollywood film "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou." I would LOVE to get in contact with him somehow and talk to him about his experiences and journey in Hollywood. Talking to someone in the industry would increase the effect of my presentation exponentially and I feel the youth will be able to relate to it better. If anyone knows ANY way in whi…
