The movie was directed by a Hindu. Before Sikhs get too happy at that movie, one must put yourself in their shoe for a moment. How would we like it if a movie about partition was made in which a Muslim Pakistani came to India, single handedly beat up thousands of Sikhs and had a Sikh girl go crazy over him to the point of leaving her family! we would go crazy if such a movie was made. Well that's how Muslims feel about Gadhar. bollywood is basically trashwood. No good can come from it. Old Hindi movies promoted traditional Indian culture, but now bollywood movies are promoting gutter culture. One should try to keep their children away from bollywood movies.

Baani andar jaayegi, taan hi Baane nun janam degi. Keeping Kesh is the first and foremost compulsory Kakkar for a Sikh, as per Rehat Maryada. KESH, KANGA, KACH, KARA, KIRPAN. Dad took Head of Singhs and gave Amrit with Rehat Maryada and then bowed before Panj Pyare for the same Amrit. Singhs had to give their Heads for Amrit and a Rehat Maryada which underlines Kesh as the prime compulsory KAKKAR for Sikhs. It does matter whether you are Keshdhari or not, When Guru Tegh Bahadur gave matryodym in Delhi, Chandni Chowk, even Keshless people who used to say they are followers of guru Ghar ranway, Guru Gobind Rai at that time announced creation of a Roop which will be recognised in millions. It was not easy for us to hide during 2 Ghallugharas done during Mughal times, it was not easy for a Keshdhari Sikh to hide during the 1984 Sikh Genocide by Indian Govt. Had KESH not been important, and all Sikhs as per your opinion had become Keshless, it would had been difficult for Indian Govt. to hunt and burn Sikhs alive. Thanks to the compulsory identity, and thanks to the Sikhs living outside Punjab (Delhi/Haryana/UP/Maharashtra etc. as Punjab Patitpuna has increased expotentially), we can still be recognised and our future holocaust by future Indian govt. still possible, else it would be difficult for them to recognise us. Without Kesh identity, any body happy to say he/she as a SIKH during good times refuses to be a SIKH during difficult times.

just an observation I have, bulk and almost all of of Bollywood inter-case love stories/movies always have a story of a Hindu boy marrying a Muslim (Pakistani), Sikh, Christian, Parsi, Dalit girl. I have lots of such examples. Some Bollywood movies even showing Sikh/Muslim girls even running from their homes? Examples such as Jab We Met etc, Bombay etc. The trend is ongoing. Has anybody seen the reverse? like bulk of Bollywood movie's showing Muslim/Sikh man marrying Hindu girls??? What is Bollywood up to?

I don't think any one of us has any right to criticise any mahaan mahapursh for the way they instructed the sangat. If we can develop even a fraction of the amount of love and bhagti they had for the Guru then we will indeed be very blessed. I'm not condoning the dance or saying it is acceptable in that context, but my limited education tells me swaying to music is less offensive than a daily shave. More important than the specifics of the small talk is that we look at our own limitations, chinese, gora, punjabi etc. all of US and speak with respect. If this forum is a Sikh forum it is one without race and there is no "they" based on race. The majority of the comments are obviously punjabi-based. Punjabis like gorays are severely limited by cultural lenses. I must say punjabi's do a better job of staying stuck there. There is a great deal that is not only tolerated but not even seen in Punjabi sikh culture which could be considered bedbi. It is normal to be uncomfortable when seeing certain practices. From there however, one should look at ones own limitations and only then speak with respect to or about others to further education and mutual understanding. The first thing I see is not people dancing. I first see a room full of independent thinkers of whom I am jealous. I am jealous because unlike those people, I have no way of knowing that I would have the intelligence and strength to be a revolutionary that would go against the grain and seek Sikhi if I was not born in a Sikh family. I then don't see people who are not wiling to learn, I see people who are abandoned and shunned by the punjabi society that could learn so much with them.

All sant babas are not that way. Sant Babas are practical persons themselves and do not tell sangat about following a wrong practice. There are many books available on method of simran and they tell us to avoid this practice. sants of charhdi kala of yesteryears and present times tell sangat correct procedure of Naam simran.

I think those articles are by right wing type media in order to alarm their readers. I remember reading such an article claiming that France would become Muslim majority by 2010. Even many Muslim fanatics like to use those same sources in order to make their followers feel encouraged that one day they will form the majority in the west. Islam is increasing but not because of conversions, rather it is their fertility rate. But on fertility rate alone they still will not form a majority within our lifetime.

Why do they keep using Asian and not Pakistani Muslim, it tars Sikhs and others with the same brush? The media does not hesitate to use Sikh when it feels like.

Well said. I have some similar views about Gadar. The movie was Produced, written and directed by Anil Sharma. The movie released in probably 2000, and projects a JATT SIKH "Sunny Deol" fighting with Muslims and shows that as the sole objective of SIKHS, trying to fill a passion of patriotism in SIKHS, trying to deviate all their energy of justice/fight etc. towards Pakistan/Muslims. By 2000, the SIKH community was still heeling up with the wounds of Punjab genocide which finished in 1993 approx., a good way to deviate all that energy was to make Sikh anger/frustration deviate towards Pakistan and create such an impractical fiction, which gives Sikhs a false euphoria and tries to re-create in them the patriotism towards India, by creating a sense of hatred towards Pakistan. This is a very tricky pshychological game. People coming after seeing the movie Gadar used to come to me and say "Sardar Jee, kamal kar diya aapne Gadar mein". Keep it up. Now what this gives as an impression to Sikhs throughout India??? We love you, we respect you, we hail your efforts if you keep on doing what you have done in Gadar. We were forced to fight, and we lost a lot.

Although the movies are trying to portray equality in race and caste, reality is that if a Sikh/Muslim man married a hindu girl, or a Pakstani Pilot married a Hindu girl it would cause great discomfort in the Hindu majority. Even though a Hindu Kareena Kapoor is married to a Muslim Saif Ali Khan, a Hindu Sharmila Tagore was married to a Muslim Patodi. There are so many cases in Bollywood where a hindu has married a Muslim. There just aren't enough movies to show that. But only movie I can think of about a Sikh marrying a Muslim is Gadar.

Dasam banis are very very very powerful. I think it can be a strong positive energy of bir rass nature that ran through your body. Dasam banis grant you darshan of dasven paatshah, shaheed singhs, end of janam maran and many other things like gupat shashter but it must be done in a proper vidhi So singh ji keep on listening and keep on doing abhiyaas you will see many things... One more thing is that after doing paath of bhagauti astotar or any such baani do 5 minutes waheguru simran it will help a lot.

what more worse is some of thier kids , who are not intersted in sikhi or do not keep kesh have the word :"Khalsa" added as caste to thier name . the link provided earlier were some 3ho morons dancing and doing kirtan . they need old style kutapa!! Also , if you search . Gobinde mukande udare apare. on youtube you will see kirtan which is not even kirtan more like songs and some moorakh dancing on it bear headed.

You're right, in the sense that when these gangs have been up to their crimes they have been doing it in private e.g. hotel rooms, safe houses etc. Their families would have no idea and that's pretty much the case with any criminal i.e. they hide what they do from their loved ones and in this case the community. But anyway I guess there is a silver lining in this that people will be more aware and anyone who potentially could commit a crime like this will now think very carefully about it.

Seen in the picture is Granthi Kabal Singh apologising to Sangat and Singhs led by Dr Gurjinder Singh of SYF Bhindranwala for performing Sukhmani Sahib Path at a Muslim peers grave. The Granthi admitted to making a mistake and pledged to refrain from carrying out such acts in the future. Sarbat Jee, your premise of argument is that the Akal Takht Jathadar is wrong about not accepting homosexuals doing Anandkaraj because he made some other questionable moves in the past. So what you are saying is if a person makes one wrong move they lose the right to make any correct move in the future. This is faulty reasoning. You need to support your argument based on it's own merit rather then questioning the Akal Takht Jathadar. The Akal Takht's edict on homosexuality is not based on the Jathadars opinion but based on Sikh traditions and the teachings and lifestyle of the Gurus, Bhagats, Sikhs for the last 500 years. No one is encouraging persecution of gays or saying they can't practice their lifestyle, go ahead. But why do you have to demand an Anand Karaj? by demanding that homsexuals be allowed the right to conduct an Anand Karaj you are saying Sikhs should accept violation of the Rehit Maryadha. The Anand Karaj is a very sacred ceremony between a Sikh man and Sikh woman.

Great song.Makhan is a changed man. He has been given a second chance but the circumstanses surrounding it are extremly suspicious. Punjab govt dropped all drug charges. Obviously money has been exchanged. On a lighter note i know Makhan is in his mid 40's yet his beard colour has changed from dark brown to jet black. He must of bulk ordered Just For Men. Moranwali is def not my favourite. He seems very celebrity obsessed what with his relationship with Jazzy B. Still cant get over the fact how he cussed Babbu Mann and called him a sariya ghayaak and roda poda yet hangs with Jazzy who apperance wise and personality we all know about despite his recent Bagi song. If Johal or any of his missionary buddies tried to remove Sri Dasam Granth Sahib during Maharaja Ranjit Singh's era - Akali ehna nu jhatkadinde.
