  3. Following are some beautiful words of Dhan Guru Baba Nanak Dev Maharaj, in Raag Maajh, conveying us the basic truths of Gurmat : ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ Guramathee Aap Gavaae Naam Dhhiaaeeai गुरमती आपु गवाइ नामु धिआईऐ Through the Guru's Teachings, eliminate ego, by meditating on Naam. ਦੂਜੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਗਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਈਐ Dhoojee Kaarai Lag Janam Gavaaeeai दूजी कारै लगि जनमु गवाईऐ Undertaking any other task, they waste their lives in vain. Raag Maajh, Guru Nanak Dev With the first line, Guru Sahiban is telling us that, through Gurmat, we can eliminate our ego, our haume, our bondages, our attachments with this mayavee and perishable creation, which so much we love; to the extent, that we sacrifice our lives, such as .... in the name of my land, my caste, my creed...and thus our lives are wasted away. We run constantly after shadows of this world, by turning away our faces away from where the Light cometh. We are like bats, in the darkness of this kali yug, such as rites, rituals, pilgrimages, fasting, rules and regulations, we open our eyes wide open. But when it comes to Nam Simran, we say, no no, that alone is not sufficient, we must do some more things, in order to be better followers of our path. But then in the next line, in order to remove all our fears, all our brahams, He clearly says: apart from Nam Bhakti, anything we may do, however good it may appear to be, is as good as to waste away one´s life....means it has no value, as per our goal in pursuing our union with the almighty Akal Purukh.

  4. He possibly has a claim as his mother was descended from the line of Guru Nanak (the Bedi lineage). However as said above, such claims have no special place in Sikhi, its how the individual lives their life and deeds that they do which determine their merits, not their ancestory. The Jot went from Guru Nanak via the subsequent nine Gurus to Guru Gobind Singh ji and finally lies within our Guru Granth Sahib ji - full stop.

It is a blessing from the Almighty Wahiguru, not anybody can practice it. That is why He says: when it pleases You, means Him, not me, nor we, neither you or they, but only when He wishes so, means we will savour the Nam and merge in the Nam or get attuned into it. That is why when Nam Simran is mentioned, for many of us it is just a concept, so rather we prefer to do other sort of practices. But the fact behind this, is that, we are not to be blamed, because nobody can not go against His "Mauj". It is He who creates that desire in us, to chant His Name. To others He keeps them busy, with their usual traditional practices. To those whom He wants them to get out from this very creation, He blesses them with His Simran, because it is with His Simran alone, that we can merge in Him, that is the purpose of sikhee, that is the purpose of Gurmat.

  6. White girl interview about muslim grooming There was an interview on radio 5 live this am (Wednesday 28.08.13). http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b038vjj2 A girl aged 14 (named Jessica - not her real name), was groomed by a muslim man. During the interview Jessica recounts how after 3 - 4 weeks of meeting that he had sex with her, although he knows she is only 14 - Jessica also tells how she was headbutted, kicked and punched, intimidated and threatened. Jessica also recounts how the police, social workers and foster families all allowed Ali access to her. She was put into care because her parents were deeply concerned about her safety - the Police told her she should be ashamed. At 21.0 (minutes) Jessica states that Jahangir Akhtar (deputy leader of Rotherham council and vice chair of Police and crime panel) knew about Ali raping her and arranged for her to be handed over to the Police while Ali could go free.

  7. Governments are making it more, difficult to be sustained in this country, income is not increasing whilst prices of products are. People are being more strained financially and crime is on the increase, its difficult to raise good children in such a harsh society and kuljug is ever strong, sooner or later the society will collapse. To be stress free, peaceful and just concentrate on yourself, family sangat, Sikhi cleaner food etc. and be happy rather than bills mortgage influence on children and to educate in a safer environment and just away from negative vibes wouldn’t an Sikh Eco-village be ideal. I hear many people are going this way, I have done some research and am amazed on the amount of people interested in this sort of idea and how some villages are already set up in England as well as other parts of the world. I think a Sikh eco-village is set up either in Canada or US. I too am interested in such an idea in England; it would be great just to live off the land, with like minded people grow your own food, have a couple cows horses keertan during day time teach the children. sew your clothes, it can be sustained the proof is our own people in Punjab. All would need to put in some money to start. I definitely would love to do this; anyone else her interested get in touch.

Breaking their silence, they speak to Chris Rogers about their experiences at the hands of these predatory men and why justice is being denied to them by their own community and the police.

While the present government cannot in any way be held responsible for support given by a predecessor government of 30 years ago, the present government’s statement that the assistance then given was ‘only minimal’, was deeply hurtful to Sikhs, and insensitive to others concerned with human rights”, a press release by Network of Sikh Organizations (NSO) notes. “The same seeming indifference to Sikh human rights was also evident in the House of Lords during questions on the UK government’s advocacy of a UN led investigation into human rights abuses in Sri Lanka. Director NSO, Lord Singh asked Baroness Warsi, the Senior Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, if the UK government would consider supporting a similar investigation into the highly organised mass killing of thousands of Sikhs in 1984” the press release reads further. Lord Indarjit Singh [File Photo] Lord Inderjit Singh cited evidence from the American Embassy in New Delhi that the number of Sikhs killed in just three days in 1984 exceeded the total number of victims of General Pinochet’s cruel and arbitrary seventeen year rule in Chile. Baroness Warsi declined to answer the question, saying instead, that she had spent ‘an hour and a half’ in a meeting with the Sikh community. Following discussions in the NSO and with other Sikh organisations, Lord Singh was asked to pursue the point and ask the UK government to show the same degree of commitment in addressing Sikh human rights, as they were showing in addressing human rights abuses against the Tamil population of Sri Lanka. As per NSO press release: Lord Singh accordingly put a written question to Baroness Warsi, again raising the apparent lack of even-handedness. Baroness Warsi again gave a response which totally ignored the question. Lord Singh complained to House of Lords officials who agreed that his question had not been answered, and the Minister was formally requested to respond to Lord Singh’s original question. During Questions on 26th March Adam Holloway MP asked the Prime Minister what more could be done to justice for the appalling events at Amritsar thirty years ago. In his reply the Prime Minister acknowledged the continuing hurt to the Sikh community and described the events of 1984 as ‘a stain on the post-independence history of India’. He continued: ‘we cannot interfere in the Indian justice system, nor should we’. “As British citizens, we are entitled to a clear answer to the question put by Lord Singh, ‘why is it fine for our government to concern itself with human rights abuse in Sri Lanka but wrong for similar concern to be shown to Sikhs in India?’ Are Sikhs lesser human beings?” reads NSO press release. The Prime Minister concluded his reply with an all too familiar patronising comment: ‘The most important thing we can do in this country is celebrate the immense contribution that British Sikhs make to our country…’ According to NSO: The contribution detailed by the Prime Minister failed to mention the most important contribution Sikhs to society, whether here or in India. That is, in the spirit of our Gurus’ teachings, a total commitment to human rights, not only of Sikhs, but of all peoples everywhere. The true message of Baisakhi is that we should always be ready to stand up and be counted in our concern for the human rights of all people whatever the cost. It is a commitment that cost our 9th Guru, Guru Teg Bahadur his life defending the right of Hindus to worship in the manner of their choice against Mughal persecution. It is the same commitment that led to the 1984 genocide against Sikhs for their earlier opposition to the three year dictatorship of Mrs Gandhi. “We believe that it will be a betrayal of still grieving families in India, for UK Sikhs to participate in a UK government celebration that not only ignores their trauma and suffering, but also ignores the underlying commitment to human rights central to the festival of Baisakhi” reads press release by NSO. NSO has urged all Sikhs to boycott the Downing Street function as a charade that ignores the very meaning of Baisakhi.

  12. Fateh . . . The confusion over the dates related to sikh historic events continues. I look at the Nanakshai Jantri at SGPC.net where it states that Vaisakhi is on 13th Apr 2014; where as other websites and other information reports this to be on the 14th Apr 2014 http://www.calendarlabs.com/calendars/religious/sikh-calendar.php Frustrating to the least; the world must be having at Sikhs who cant even agree on having an agreed date for their own events; let alone other matters. Divide and rule surely comes to mind. My rant for the day I guess. Fateh . . . .

WJKK WJKF Whether he is or whether he isn't, bares no importance as what Amitabh Bachan represents is everything else other than guru nanaks sikhi, I will do ardas that maybe he will find some attachment and understanding to the message of our guru, Akal purakhs messenger Shiri guru nanak dev ji and try to sanitise his soul as we all do. This highlights the issues within our own panth too, how people who follow sikhi promote the name "sodhi" or "bedi" in an attemt to claim ancestry of the gurus forgetting the very point our guru said, it's the rehat what's loved by the guru, not the sikh. 15. its not a problem with Sikhs its a problem with the Georgian calendar. These Sikh dates are coming from the Bikrami Calendar and thus don't always match up to the imperfect Georgian calendar. I personally follow Bikrami because its so much cooler, each month relates to what's happening during that solar Moon cycle eg. Eg Chet is when the flowers first come out and Viasakh is when the blossom to the fullest. its.much a head of its time in many ways but there is already a topic in this posted recently.

  16. I can imagine it was. I suppose it could start with around seven to eight families all putting in equal share of money buying the land and slowly sustaining it, with homes, crops water pump animals etc. then increasing the size Ofcourse nothing is easy at first but it is no way impossible. If others in UK as well as other parts of the world can do it, its possible Sikhs could do it. It doesnt have to be just a dream. :-)

  19. Dear Balbir Singh Jee, Excuse me, I do not exactly follow what you want ask with a Vaak from the Granth Sahib Jee. But that much I can tell you, because this very das, has started this thread, so I can exactly tell what was in my mind when I started it. For me mahima here means, to sing the Glory of the Lord Wahiguru Himself and His other two aspects, which are as True as Himself. And namely they are: His Nam and His Gurmukhs, His Sant Jan, His Bhagats, Guru Sahibans .... And who better than His bhagats or Guru Sahibans can sing His Glory or mahima ..... Of course, nobody, and surely not we moorakhs... That is why if we go through the Bani of any Ang, it is only His glory that I do see.... i do not know what others see, or want to see; or even, are able to see. The Bani is thus, a practical method to cleanse our dirt, which is the cause of our sorrow and pain, and at the same time to unfold the divinity of Wahiguru within ourselves, through His bhakti. Dear Balbir, I hope I have answered your question. Yet, if there is need of any more clarity, let me know, I will try my best. Waheguru Jee P.S: There is a beautiful Shabad in Raag Bilavaal of Sree Guru Arjun Dev Maharaj, which mentions the Mahima of Wahiguru, His Nam and His Gurmukhs, as per the title of this thread. Here it goes: mahimaa saaDhoo sang kee sunhu mayray meetaa (809-17) bilaaval mehlaa 5. Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl: pingul parbat paar paray khal chatur bakeetaa. The cripple crosses over the mountain, the fool becomes a wise man, anDhulay taribhavan soojhi-aa gur bhayt puneetaa. and the blind man sees the three worlds, by meeting with the True Guru and being purified. mahimaa saaDhoo sang kee, sunhu mayray meetaa. This is the Glory of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; listen, O my friends. mail kho-ee kot agh haray nirmal bha-ay cheetaa. Filth is washed away, millions of sins are dispelled, and the consciousness becomes immaculate and pure. aisee bhagat govind kee keet hastee jeetaa. Such is devotional worship of the Lord of the Universe, that the ant can overpower the elephant. jo jo keeno aapno tis abhai daan deetaa. Whoever the Lord makes His own, is blessed with the gift of fearlessness. singh bilaa-ee ho-ay ga-i-o tarin mayr dikheetaa. The lion becomes a cat, and the mountain looks like a blade of grass. saram kartay dam aadh ka-o tay ganee Dhaneetaa. Those who worked for half a shell, will be judged very wealthy. kavan vadaa-ee kahi saka-o bay-ant guneetaa. What glorious greatness of Yours can I describe, O Lord of infinite excellences? kar kirpaa mohi naam dayh naanak dar sareetaa. 23. There is no divine consciousness/inner voice other than Gurbani in existence and nothing can match Gurbani. It is called wish full thinking to say to another attune to your intuitive divine consciousness. People that believe in this nonsense are deeply stuck in hankar/ego. They have this idea stuck in their head one day with my own efforts I will be able to attune to my divine consciousness and accomplish the ultimate goal (call it mukhti, unity with the One or whatever). Or they have it stuck in their head a religious book or so called divine person, who knows nothing about Gurbani and practices contrary to Gurbani will lead me to this ultimate goal. They twist, turn, beat Gurbani as an evil sword to get others to bow down to these ridiculous beliefs. Not a single soul ever reached the ultimate goal without Gurbani. The amount of people that tried to reach the ultimate goal without Gurbani cannot be counted on one hand (Krishna, Vishnu, Brahma, Chandi, Durga, Shiva, Udhasis, list is endless). ALL, not one or two, BUT ALL lost their lives in the gamble. Not one single soul made it. Those that spread this, attune to your divine consciousness beliefs have all turned their backs on Gurbani for good. Their fate is no different. Thousands of times, countless times the Guru says ATTUNE to the Shabad (Gurbani), grab the hem of the Guru, bow at the feet of the Guru. Without attuning to the Shabad there is pitch darkness. These holy men in many different disguises are full of ego. They imply to others worship my beliefs, my thinking, my feet. Yesterday they wore Sadhu clothing, today they wear Sadhu, western, eastern, and many other dresses to trick and fool the masses. Where is the Shabad in their voice, not present even by mistake. Tricky is their first name. They pat each other on the back wishing to be followed. In the presence of Gurbani they will hold to their beliefs. The vedas (Upanishads) utter this nonsense of attune to divine consciousness. A student is only good as its teacher. Upanishads failed miserably to give the Shabad. They could not give it and neither did they receive it. How can anything give something when they did not receive it? These vedas teachers put many restraints on spirituality. They couldn't figure out what true spirituality was, but even the spirituality they learned through their studying they put restraints on. They define spirituality into stages. Now the same people in different garbs are trying to do the same with the Shabad. Shabad is not like a physics course. Shabad flows like a river. Those that are blessed connect in the first breath. They let the river take them for the ride. Anyways enough from this moorakh. Listen to the below pauri and follow it with everything you have. There is nothing in this wish full thinking of attune to your divine consciousness. Vaheguru (Shabad) rest in everyone, but we need the Shabad (Gurbani) to awaken to it. What these "attune to your divine consciousness" people are doing is saying when you come out of the womb tell me who your father is? Good luck chicken with your head cut off. ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਆਨੇਰਾ बिनु सबदै अंतरि आनेरा ॥ Bin sabḏai anṯar ānerā. Without the Shabad, there is only darkness within. ਨ ਵਸਤੁ ਲਹੈ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਫੇਰਾ न वसतु लहै न चूकै फेरा ॥ Na vasaṯ lahai na cẖūkai ferā. 26. Could this be one of the reasons why paedophile gangs are allowed to flourish in the UK we have an issue of Police corruption? http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/exclusive-scotland-yards-rotten-core-police-failed-to-address-endemic-corruption-9050224.html# Exclusive: Scotland Yard’s rotten core: Police failed to address ‘endemic corruption’ Organised crime infiltrated police ‘at will’, according to secret report. Top-level internal inquiry identified scores of corrupt individuals working for Met Tom Harper Thursday, 9 January 2014 Organised criminals were able to infiltrate Scotland Yard “at will” by bribing corrupt officers, according to an explosive report leaked to The Independent. The Metropolitan Police file, written in 2002, found Britain’s biggest force suffered “endemic corruption” at the time. Operation Tiberius concluded that syndicates such as the notorious Adams family and the gang led by David Hunt had bribed scores of former and then-serving detectives to access confidential databases; obtain live intelligence on criminal investigations; provide specialist knowledge of surveillance, technical deployment and undercover techniques to help evade prosecution; and even take part in criminal acts such as mass drug importation and money laundering. The strategic intelligence scoping exercise – “ratified by the most senior management” at Scotland Yard – found murder investigations had been infiltrated and sensitive intelligence regarding other organised crime investigations had been leaked, allowing the offenders to escape justice. The author lamented the Met’s inability to root out the problem. More worryingly, he also appeared to question Scotland Yard’s commitment to tackle organised crime corruption in the ranks. “For whatever reason, the current approach is simply to wait for the corruption intelligence to surface and to then react to it,” Tiberius concluded. Later, it added: “These syndicates are organised and all working towards the common goals of making profit, laundering their money, evading prosecution and preventing the forfeiture of their assets. The achievement of these goals is focused and determined; the law enforcement investigation should follow this lead.” Tiberius identified 80 corrupt individuals with links to the police, including 42 then-serving officers and 19 former detectives. It concluded: “Organised crime is currently able to infiltrate the MPS at will.” Research conducted by The Independent suggests that only a tiny number of the officers named as corrupt have been convicted. Keith Vaz, who chairs the Home Affairs Select Committee, said: “I am deeply concerned by the findings of this report. It is vital that the police have the utmost integrity. The public must be able to trust them to do their job and ensure justice prevails. “The Met have made vast progress rooting out corruption in the force in the last 20 years but it would appear more may still need to be done.” Mr Vaz added he would be writing to the current Met Commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, to “ensure that these allegations have been fully investigated and to confirm that he is satisfied that corruption no longer exists”. The report, produced by a team led by the former Met assistant commissioner Andy Hayman, paints a shocking picture of security at the time inside Scotland Yard, which had responsibility for the UK’s counter-terror operations. Working in secret, the Tiberius team drew on multiple sources of information including covert informants, intelligence from telephone intercepts, briefings from the security services and thousands of historic police files. One senior investigating officer interviewed by the inquiry said at the time: “I feel that… I cannot carry out an ethical murder investigation without the fear of it being compromised.” In one case, the report names an alleged corrupt officer who was inexplicably put in charge of a team investigating a gangland murder linked to organised crime. Other officers Tiberius says were known to be corrupt were also identified as working on inquiries into organised crime, many of which resulted in compromised investigations and, in some cases, failed prosecutions. Some relationships between Met officers and the criminal underworld were so close that in one case named police officers were identified as co-owning properties and even racehorses with a man suspected of being one of Britain’s most hardened gangsters. In one shocking case, a police statement taken from a highly sensitive witness was found in the safe of a nightclub controlled by the Adams family – described by Operation Tiberius as the “major crime family in north London”. The report stated the named witness was helping police try to solve the murder of Michael Olymbious, who the police believed had been killed after losing £1.5m of ecstasy pills owned by the syndicate. Tiberius also found a secret informant – codenamed “Lee Paul” – providing intelligence on the Adams family and the corrupt police in its pay to his handler at the Met, who appears to have been a man of integrity. However, Paul’s highly sensitive role was later uncovered by other officers and his activities became more widely known, causing uproar among the corrupt elements inside the Yard. But far from seeing this as evidence that the police were finally on to them, one rogue detective inspector was so unperturbed that he felt confident enough to brazenly threaten one of Paul’s handlers with reprisals. The ability of organised criminals to target highly sensitive police witnesses and informants was the subject last July of evidence given to Parliament by one of the Met’s most senior officers. When questioned by the Home Affairs Committee over a separate case of corrupt police officers targeting protected witnesses, revealed in The Independent, Assistant Commissioner Cressida <banned word filter activated> said: “I am not aware of anything in the Metropolitan Police that has resulted in infiltration thereof, but it is a risk that we are constantly trying to prevent materialising, of course, because people’s lives are at risk.” The Met’s inability to tackle the corruption of police officers by organised crime syndicates is laid bare in some of Tiberius’ recommendations. Although the report suggests a range of strategies to combat corruption, including establishing a dedicated task force, it also recommends merely “removing alleged corrupt officers from specialist departments back to borough postings to disrupt networks” and putting troublemakers “together on one particular unit to enable a strong manager to keep an eye on them”. A former senior officer, who recently retired from Scotland Yard, told The Independent: “Nothing has changed. The Met is still every bit as corrupt as it was back then.” One of the few successful investigations reviewed by Tiberius was Operation Greyhound, a long-running inquiry that found that two detectives had helped a known criminal hunt a money-launderer over a £600,000 debt. Martin Morgan and Declan Costello were paid £50,000 for helping Robert Kean, a builder with a string of previous convictions, find his former business associate, Andrew Smith. During their trial in 2002, the Old Bailey heard that Kean and another criminal, Carl Wood, spoke of torturing Smith and putting his body in a car crusher if he could not pay his debt. At the heart of the scandal was the friendship of Morgan and Kean, a suspected drugs dealer. When Kean wanted to find Smith, he turned to Morgan, who used intelligence databases available to Met detectives to try to track down and entrap him. Kean said Morgan “was good at his job” and would be paid “50gs”– £50,000 – to act as his bounty hunter. Morgan, Kean and Wood pleaded guilty to conspiring to unlawfully and injuriously imprison a man and to detain him against his will. Costello plead guilty to conspiracy to assault, causing actual bodily harm. Asked to comment on the Tiberius report, a spokesman for Scotland Yard said: “The Metropolitan Police Service will not tolerate any behaviour by our officers and staff which could damage the trust placed in police by the public. “We are determined to pursue corruption in all its forms and with all possible vigour. “The dedicated Anti-Corruption Command, part of the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards, proactively investigates any allegations or intelligence relating to either corrupt police officers and staff [or] those that may seek to corrupt our officers’ staff. “There is no complacency in the Met’s determination to succeed in this task.” Botched jobs: Compromised murder investigations Kenneth Beagle Thought to have been killed by members of a named organised crime syndicate over a “failed drug importation”. Tiberius names a former Met police officer whom it says “has always been considered to be one of the most corrupt officers serving in the MPS”. The report claims this former officer contacted his “good friend”, a detective sergeant, on the investigating team whom Tiberius says “had previously been the subject of at least three corruption inquiries” yet was allowed to work on a gangland murder investigation. For reasons that are unclear, the Met formally “authorised” the meeting between the pair which “legitimised the access into the murder inquiry”. Tiberius notes that “shortly after the meeting” the alleged organised crime boss “knew that the investigation team considered him a suspect”. Ricky Rayner A suspected drug dealer who fled to Spain was one of the prime suspects for the murder of Ricky Rayner in 2001 and asked a man whom police suspected of leading a drug dealing syndicate to check whether he was still wanted in the UK. Within days, this man was able to find out the status of his associate following telephone contact with a police officer. The report stated a Police National Computer check was obtained from Bethnal Green police station. The suspected gangster was able to give the suspect the “all clear”, apparently leading to his return to Britain. Tiberius also identified “regular contact” between another suspected corrupt detective and a senior member of the investigation into the murder. Again, the investigating officer had previously been identified as possibly corrupt – yet had never been prosecuted and was put in charge of a sensitive investigation.

  32. Ok here goes. In a sense you a right however what guru sahib is speaking of is deeper than what it seems. Guru sahib is speaking of the dimensions of what akaal purakh manifests in and its shakti. Same way how guru sahib has done ustat of devi chandi mata and has used references of this shakti being displayed in many forms. nirgun and satgun being two forms the physical manifestation of akaal purakh has always been coming on earth space universe... from the starting and even before guru nanak dev ji. "jab jab hoth aristh apara tabh tabh deh dharat avtara." so taking this tuk in context akaal p[urakh has taken many forms where its shakti has been represented through ram, krishan, bhrama, chandi, kali, guru nanak dev ji etc. however the guru sahibs have been given a higher status than the devteh because they have concurred all the 5 chor and have shown simran being akaal purakhs pooja ( the ultimate and final source) without having mankind worship them. in dasam granth guru sahib confirms that befoire taking birth he did tapasiya that he became one with akaalpurak so no difference between akaal purakh and guru sahib, showing that the gurus jot is one with akaalpurakh and later on even says that if anyone calls him god will go to hell. again this may seem contradictive however its showing a point what guru sahib has made of what they are and is saying that the ultimate simran is only of akaalpurakh not visible form. understand this sort of stuff is deep very deep very very deep however its simple as well again contradiction however when looking at the dimensions its not. another example we say guru nanak we "manifestation" of god himself "roop rabh dah" however god him self (guru nanak) i the form of god and shakti of god in guru nanak is saying to do simran of akalpurakh so in a way it is god telling you what to do ... sorry if this is confusing and typed in a rubbish format however have tried to make it simple.
