2. There is a tuk "beleived" to be said by Guru Sahib about Topi or Cap.It goes something like this: "Jo sikh sir topi thhare, Sat janam Kushtee hoyee maree" I was just curious if somebdy has any reference to the above tuk.I just want to know who(among the 10 gurus) said this and what were the circumstances under which they uttered the above tuk. I also never found anywhere in Gurbani where our guru sahib mentioned "saat janam" or "seven incarnations". Can somebdy plz explain what does "saat janam" implies here? And also where can we find the reference to the above tuk. If we search for cap we find two instances: Page 939, Line 8 -- Guru Nanak Dev aUNDau Kpru pMc BU topI ] Let your mind turn away in detachment from the world, and let this be your begging bowl. Let the lessons of the five elements be your cap. Page 1167, Line 14 -- Saint Nam Dev ijin Awkws kulh isir kInI kausY spq pXwlw ] Your cap is the realm of the Akaashic ethers; the seven nether worlds are Your sandals. Thanks. 3. If you already do with your surti, and have validation, thats very good progress..you don't need to go back to vachak and upas jaap based on what information you are providing (as you may have completed this in various previous births - all of us are in this overall bhagti for many many births), all are stages, all are accepted by Guru maharaj as long as its done with honesty, sincerity and love. The key here is when you do jaap be it vachak upas or manas- your surti should be one with gurbani and let gurbani draw you in completely, take control fully and CONSUME YOUR SURTI fully (instead of mind trying all sorts of things), you will be filled with immense love-nira pyaar and bairaag which is hard to explain here. Most of times, our skeptical/egoic mind gets in a way between our surti and shabad of gurbani- Shabad Guru Surat Dhun Chela. This is from gyani thakur singh ji katha of japji sahib:

 5. Can anyone, with a blog/website/both related to Khalistan, explain something to me? A few years ago I heard about the case of a man whose family was detained at the Indian airport because he was involved in some pro-Khalistan group overseas. To my brothers who are involved in such groups what happens when you go to India or need police clearance from there? Do they detain you on the basis of the organisations you support, webpages you make and comments you put on fb? Is it entirely random or they do it to people who illustrate an intent? Can we say there is a degree of discrimination involved or is it the effects of an inept bureaucracy?

 6. I was quite shocked last night when I watched a programme called Derby Q & A on Sangat television. There were some really good points made by the panel and some of the speakers at Derby Gurdwara. Then with a couple of minutes to go a guy comes on with a white beard aged about 60 called bhai sucha. He goes on to compare so called lower caste people to toilet water and then says ' do you drink water from the toilet or the tap? why do you drink it from the tap? if they start improving their qualities then people will start liking them!!' I couldn't believe what I was hearing. He ruined all the good points Joga Singh had made before him. It is 2014 for Gods sake and we are still letting guys like this on Gurdwara stages!!! Even the BNP have toned down their language compared to this fascist!! Sangat Tv need to explain who this Singh was speaking on behalf of because he doesn't represent the views of the Gursikhs I have met. Some people have said he was representing AKJ who had a samagam after, whilst others are saying he is a pardhan from Kempston Gurdwara. Either way shame on him for disgracing Sikhi live on tv all over the U.K & Europe! He should apologise on air and explain they are his own views and not that of Sikhs, Gurudwaras, Sangat TV, the AKJ or whoever.

 7. Khalsa ji I have been struggling with this for over a year now and its getting to my head now. What's the difference between reading bani outloud and reaciting it in your Mann or surfing? I asked a local granthi and he said straightup why do you want to read it over and over again? That just broke my shardha. Maybe a Gurmukh bibeki Singh or singhni can give me a productive answer. Thank you Vaheguru ji ka khalsa vaheguru ji ki fateh *Surti

 9. This is similar to a case I know of a couple who have been married for 10 years but don't have kids. When they married they thought they will put off kids for 10 years because the wife wanted to advance in her carrier. But as the years began rolling(7 years into the marriage), her feminine instincts finally won over her feminist ideals and she then felt she wanted to have children. But they have been trying for so long without success. She now regrets her decision for not having children when she was younger.Sometimes when people make decisions, they should not be too rigid about it like it is etched in stone and cannot be changed. Keep an open mind about such things because what you think now about a subject may now be how you think about it later in life.

 11. This is a fanatical statement. I will explain why.1. The Gurus kept milk into a Sikhs diet and also did not refrain from milk. Fanatics now are saying the Gurus stole milk. Anythkng else you want to add mr. Educated. 2. Many vegatables grow in the ground. Farmers spray many toxic pesticides to KILL rats, rabbits, insects and worms. If chemicals are not applied or poison is not put out for animals then the crops are infested and ruined. If the cow milk is only made for the calf. Then vegetables are only made for animals that live off of it. Guru Nanak Dev ji warned us of these fanatical ways. Obvoiusly this poster has not stepped into any farm to see the reality. He's got his blinds on and only sees green. EVery day one farm worker is put at a higher risk to develop cancer because farmers refuse to give proper working conditions and safety supplies. Yet this poster does not want to hear about these facts. He wants to enjoy his vegetables and fruits in peace without no guilt. Yet he wants others to feel guilty for buy milk. Guru Nanak Dev Ji wrote about how the sugar cane feels pain when going through the crusher. Any person who has dug a 6 inch hole will know there is living breathing creatures being crushed and killed to plant vegetables and fruits. Any compassion here? No none at all. Anyone doing ardas to ask forgivens here? Not even by mistake will these fanatics think about that worm or insect or rat. All they say is eeewwwwww..get that thing away from me, while running to climb on top of a chair or table. The root problem to all these problems is the capitalist system. Its about increase company size and increase net income and nothing more. Where is the movement against really tackling the problem. Those Sikhs back home who got there hands dirty in the farms know the reality here. Go ask them why all this is happening. Take these pin stripe suit wearing, beard tying, mr. Educated people in a room and let a wild dog loose. After they have had enough with the dog. then ask them what is the problem. Then these people will spell it out for you in a split second.

He then went on to tell me krishna wore a turban as i do, i smiled and let him blab since i cant say ive ever met the blue man. But then he came out with, "guru nanak worshipped lord krishna". At this point i was fuming. I explained to this bandar how misinformed he was but he had none of it. Instead he had the audacity to question where i had read this from! 14. Iranian killer's execution halted at last minute by victim's parents Convict had noose around his neck when victim's mother approached, slapped him in the face and spared his life Saeed Kamali Dehghan The Guardian, Wednesday 16 April 2014 13.24 EDT The noose is removed from around the neck of Balal. Photograph: Arash Khamooshi /Isna When he felt the noose around his neck, Balal must have thought he was about to take his last breath. Minutes earlier, crowds had watched as guards pushed him towards the gallows for what was meant to be yet another public execution in the Islamic republic of Iran. Seven years ago Balal, who is in his 20s, stabbed 18-year-old Abdollah Hosseinzadeh during a street brawl in the small town of Royan, in the northern province of Mazandaran. In a literal application of qisas, the sharia law of retribution, the victim's family were to participate in Balal's punishment by pushing the chair on which he stood. But what happened next marked a rarity in public executions in Iran, which puts more people to death than any other country apart from China. The victim's mother approached, slapped the convict in the face and then decided to forgive her son's killer. The victim's father removed the noose and Balal's life was spared. Hosseinzadeh's mother slaps Balal. Photograph: Arash Khamooshi /Isna Photographs taken by Arash Khamooshi, of the semi-official Isna news agency, show what followed. Balal's mother hugged the grieving mother of the man her son had killed. The two women sobbed in each other's arms one because she had lost her son, the other because hers had been saved. The action by Hosseinzadeh's mother was all the more extraordinary as it emerged that this was not the first son she had lost. Her younger child Amirhossein was killed in a motorbike accident at the age of 11. "My 18-year-old son Abdollah was taking a stroll in the bazaar with his friends when Balal shoved him," said the victim's father, Abdolghani Hosseinzadeh, according to Isna. "Abdollah was offended and kicked him but at this time the murderer took an ordinary kitchen knife out of his socks." Balal's mother, left and Hosseinzadeh's mother embrace after the execution was halted. Photograph: Arash Khamooshi/Isna Hosseinzadeh Sr has come to the conclusion that Balal did not kill his son deliberately. "Balal was inexperienced and didn't know how to handle a knife. He was naive." According to the father, Balal escaped the scene of the stabbing but was later arrested by the police. It took six years for a court to hand down a death sentence, and the victim's family deferred the execution a number of times. A date for execution was set just before the Persian new year, Nowruz, but the victim's family did not approve of the timing. Hosseinzadeh said a dream prompted the change of heart. "Three days ago my wife saw my elder son in a dream telling her that they are in a good place, and for her not to retaliate This calmed my wife and we decided to think more until the day of the execution." Many Iranian public figures, including the popular TV sport presenter Adel Ferdosipour, had called on the couple, who have a daughter, to forgive the killer. Although they did so, Balal will not necessarily be freed. Under Iranian law the victim's family have a say only in the act of execution, not any jail sentence. The chair on the gallows. Photograph: Arash Khamooshi /Isna In recent years Iran has faced criticism from human rights activists for its high rate of executions. The UN secretary general, Ban Ki-moon,accused Hassan Rouhani of doing too little to improve Iran's human rights, especially reining in its staggering use of capital punishment. As of last week, 199 executions are believed to have been carried out in Iran this year, according to Amnesty, a rate of almost two a day. Last year Iran and Iraq were responsible for two-thirds of the world's executions, excluding China. At least 369 executions were officially acknowledged by the Iranian authorities in 2013, but Amnesty said hundreds more people were put to death in secret, taking the actual number close to 700. Iran is particularly criticised for its public executions, which have attracted children among the crowds in the past. Iranian photographers are often allowed to document them. Bahareh Davis, of Amnesty International, welcomed the news that Balal had been spared death. "It is of course welcome news that the family of the victim have spared this young man's life," she said. "However, qisas regulations in Iran mean that people who are sentenced to death under this system of punishment are effectively prevented from seeking a pardon or commutation of their sentences from the authorities contrary to Iran's international obligations." She added: "It's deeply disturbing that the death penalty continues to be seen as a solution to crime in Iran. Not only is the death penalty the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment with no special deterrent impact, but public displays of killing also perpetuate a culture of acceptance of violence. "Public executions are degrading and incompatible with human dignity of those executed. In addition, all those who watch public executions which regrettably often includes children are brutalised by the experience." In October last year an Iranian prisoner who survived an attempted execution and was revived in the morgue was spared another attempt, though his family said he had lost mental stability and remained in jail.

 21. In a forest, a pregnant deer is about to give birth. She finds a remote grass field near a strong-flowing river. This seems a safe place. Suddenly labour pains begin. At the same moment, dark clouds gather around above & lightning starts a forest fire. She looks to her left & sees a hunter with his bow extended pointing at her. To her right, she spots a hungry lion approaching her. What can the pregnant deer do? She is in labour! What will happen? Will the deer survive? Will she give birth to a fawn? Will the fawn survive? Or will everything be burnt by the forest fire? Will she perish to the hunters' arrow? Will she die a horrible death at the hands of the hungry lion approaching her? She is constrained by the fire on the one side & the flowing river on the other & boxed in by her natural predators. What does she do? She focuses on giving birth to a new life. The sequence of events that follows are: - Lightning strikes & blinds the hunter. - He releases the arrow which zips past the deer & strikes the hungry lion. - It starts to rain heavily, & the forest fire is slowly doused by the rain. - The deer gives birth to a healthy fawn. In our life too, there are moments of choice when we are confronted on αll sides with negative thoughts and possibilities. Some thoughts are so powerful that they overcome us & overwhelm us. Maybe we can learn from the deer. The priority of the deer, in that given moment, was simply to give birth to a baby. The rest was not in her hands & any action or reaction that changed her focus would have likely resulted in death or disaster. Ask yourself, Where is your focus? Where is your faith and hope? In the midst of any storm, do keep it on God always. He will never ever dissapoint you. NEVER. Remember, He neither slumbers nor sleep...

 23. The problem with debating Muslims is that often they use Taqiya and if that is exposed the entire moot turns into a shouting match. I cannot remember her name exactly, but an ex-Syrian and also an ex-Muslim, was invited to a debate by Al-Jazeera T.v. Her opponent was a well-versed Koranic cleric who kept on dominating the debate by shouting at her, interrupting her whenever she was about to speak, and demeaning her because she was a woman. Ultimately she told him to shut his trap (bluntly) and then what followed was 11 minutes of cleric raving as her opponent attempted to grapple with her. She even wrote a book which drew upon her experiences in the Muslim world, 'A God who hates,' and cited how every debate she has had with a Muslim turned into a shouting fiasco when the latter realized the ineptness of their creed and debate. And this isn't your usual run of the mill believer. This even extends to University students, professors, politicians etc.

 26. Generally marriage union should happen. I have heard of many people do decide not to marry and the result they go under the control of Kaam when in a testing situation. This has happened to many Bihangams who end up committing a kurahit. One poster here gave an example of Baba Harnam Singh Rampurkhera, but they forget that Baba Jee was not an ordinary Sikh. He was a Sikh of very highest spiritual avastha. Such Saints are the true servants of God and have full control over kaam because they spend most of their day in Naam Simran and immerse themselves in Gurbani. If you are that type of person, then by all means go ahead and become a celibate. But if you know that the condition of your spiritual state is not of that high caliber then it is wiser to get into a Grahisti Jeevan. As N30 Singh Jee mentioned, there are two extremes in this world. One is the types that treat women like crap or sub human like the extremist Muslims but then the other extreme is the western feminist who is anti family and hate children. Both of these extremes are incompatible with Sikhi. Sikhi has it's own tradition based on how a family should be.

 27. simran345 Ji, The freedom of choice is important. No one should be forced to live a certain lifestyle. Neither should you be afraid for that mentality to be brought on youngsters. I'm one of those people who do not want marriage but believe family life (not marriage) is important. I believe children should be with their family more than their friends. They should learn to build a stronger bond with their family and their Mother and father. I believe the child should help their mother with house hold work, including their son (with the cooking, cleaning). This will build a lot of qualities in our children and will make them learn a lot in life. Kids learn nothing from kids (i.e. their friends) which is why our youth do not have discipline. Does this mean I do not understand family value? People like us have a laptop in our hands because we work for it. It doesn't fall from the sky. I don't use my parents to buy me stuff, I'd rather give money to them. If you love your parents and they love you, they will always understand you and they will be happy with your happiness, even if you do not want to get married as they will be proud you are a good person.

 28. All the singhs/singhnia keep on doing is juggling meaningless and wrong opinions. No one can say not having children is wrong. No one can say why Guru Sahib did what he did. Those who did bhagti in that time had a general thinking that marriage was wrong if enlightenment and meditation was the aim of life. You could say Guru Sahib got married to show them that they are wrong and it can happen either way. And numerous Gursikhs have shown that. Anything that is not clear-cut in Gurbani is just speculating. To think marriage and children is highly important in Gurmat or generally in life is primitive, animals have children too. Nothing special. More special is to physically help people around the world that need help. Singhnia are free to live whatever life they want. They are not going against Gurmat. Those who say they are can just be ignored because all humans commonly are attached to marriage and children and feel intimidated when they see someone who wishes not to live that lifestyle. None of you singhs and singhnia who claim that marriage and children is Gurmat truly understand Gurmat. Gurbani also goes against the attachment of your spouse and children, but that doesn't mean you use that to say marriage and children is false. You singhs are not God, so you have no right to tell your sisters what to do. Again, Singhnia are free to practice what they wish as long as they are helping others and aiming to befriend Vaheguru, just as a married couple should be doing and Vaheguru Jee will be happy with that person. Also, someone mentioned an old line, which I've heard billions of times "How will Sikhi carry on?". The answer is: Vaheguru is in control, Vaheguru is in this play and will do whatever he pleases in it. This view sounds closer to Islam, which is a flop and failure. Vaheguru can spread Sikhi through others who are already living. Look at Buddhism, they should be extinct by now but most people love Buddhism and want to follow that way of life. This proves that Sikhs are not even practicing Gurmat properly if there is nothing encouraging others. Buddhists look really peaceful and innocent. The only things sikhs give great importance to is marriage and that's their purpose of having children so that their children have more children. We haven't even become a community focused on the practice of kindness, innocence, humility and meditation. Instead we are just living a normal marriage life and then claim ourselves to be following Gurmat.

 33. Don't feel obligated to do something that you don't want to do. Family life is encouraged, but I've interpreted grist as living within society as opposed to asceticism. Having kids is no small thing, it's pretty much a life long obligation- it's not compulsory, women are not to be regarded as baby making machines. Focus on your Sikhi and do seva.

 36. The message of Gurbani is to accept the Bhaana of Akaal Purakh. Anyone who does that, the least he/she will do as a start is quit dishonoring his/her hair in any way/shape/form. Gurbani is written in "chautha paad", i.e. enlightened state of consciousness. Lets not take everything literally. There are deeper meanings to what Gurbani teaches us. Please run a search on this forum. This question has been answered in huge details several times.
