  1. You know what we as Sikh girls are so lucky that our father Guru Gobind Singh ji :l: is so benevolent and loves exactly the way he loves his Singhs! We'd probably think of this briefly and thinks its normal, well I use to until I researched a bit and found out this: originally as we know in the patriarchal society women were oppressed and one way of doing this was to pin them down to a man. So before a girl is married she has the surname of the father (as she is dependent on the father) and later after marriage she takes on the name of the husband. This reinforced the idea of women being the property of men. This was also carried out by many religions, for example : (satguru kirpa kare, im not doing nindeya just saying  ) The hindu law/hierarchy maker MANU- claimed that women should never be independent, hence things like sati were important :onfire: . The women should die if the husband dies! The Christian creation story- Eve was made out if Adams spare rib which makes her subjective to males. where as our father Guru Gobind singh ji created the khalsa- where women are given the name Kaur and equal rights. The surname kaur remains the same before and after marriage, this means that women are not dependent on men and DO HAVE the ability to be independent. Also just some extra info, the word KURI originally came from the word KOOH-RAH meaning rubbish. This was because people disrespected women and thought they were rubbish and inferior to men and doormats. However Guru Gobind Singh ji followed Guru Nanak Dev jis teachings of "why call her bad, who gives birth to kings" and said that Girls are not rubbish, they are princesses - KAUR! :khalsa: So please Sikh bibiyo pehno apni keemat jaano and kaim rakho apni taur by using the surname Kaur :waheguru:

  2. well actually ive noticed one thing k je kuri amritdhari hoveh she'll always want an amritdhari husband but eho jehe amritdahri singh v hai jo app singh ne par wife gori mem a LOL basically many singhs get married to ordinary keshdhari/sehajdhari girls. That's why many parents don't let their daughters take amrit before marriage because they also notice this, that its much harder for a amritdhari GIRL to find a partner... well this is what I've seen baki bhul chuk maaf ji

  3. You're not the first person to think so. Singhs asked the same question to Sahib Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj as well. Read Bhai Gurdas Jee's vaars for details about this conversation and how Guru Sahib strictly forbade any such thing. I can understand your anger veeray, but don't forget, its our morality that differentiates us from all others. You'd find more people follow you if you chose to preach Sikhi to the Muslim bibiyaan who are victims of Islam, but destroying a girl's life just to equate numbers and take revenge from an innocent, I am sorry, has never ever been the Sikh way, nor it will ever be. Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa is the prime example who accepted a Pathaan bibi Baano as his mother. She was 19 and he was old. These are the Singhs we have as role models, not those Abdalis. Please take the time to cool down. Your challenge to the Turk in the flight was what a real Singh would do, but all that you said afterwards is what a Turk does, not a Singh.

  4. This is exactly why they are "patitpuna" because of this attitude and lack of understanding whats going on in the real world and society out there. And no I dont think kesh is anti-sikh, it is fundamental part of belonging to the baptised Khalsa Sikh community. The problem is the youth these days, as you have noticed, dont want to be in Sikhi saroop these days and it is not just a Sikh phenomom it effects all religions in the west and increasingly westernised countries. What I said that you objected to as being a joke was related to the crazy decisions SGPC made in 1940s-50s lead to the direct disasters upon the strong vibrant diverse Sikh nation which: 1) Forced loyal sahajedhari Sikhs to become hindu punjabis and into the arms of araya samaj/hindutva extremist forces over night 2) Reduction of population demographics which had direct implications on Sikhs forming their own country before the British left and handed muslims and hindu their freedom but not the Sikhs because the reduction of the Sikh population was part of the plan by enemies of Sikhism. 3) Created superiority / inferiority appearance complex and secterianism and jathaism between Sikhs rather than unifying them under 1 nishan sahib and 1 nation I could give you a longer list of the anti-sikh implications of what SGPC has been responsible for but the thread will go off on a different direction. Ultimately.... the younger generation of Sikhs see that the Sikhi saroop is a huge disadvantage for them in terms of getting: * A partner. Most women do not want a turban guy these days even girls born in Sikh families because they dont find them attractive (body and facial hair issues) so now want a cut hair Sikh guy or a hindu guy if they go for Indian guys. And most if not all guys dont want a woman with body hair especially no facial hair. So most Sikh guys dont want a fully keshdhari Sikh woman they too like women have been brainwashed by western media on the ideals of beauty. * A career in a very competitive job market if you dont "look the part" or conform to western ideals most employers these days wont hire you. * The hassle of actually grooming and keeping kesh and dastaar is a major factor why alot of young Sikh boys got their hair cut as soon as they got into their teens-mid 20s. * Racism, discrimination and bullying in school and in society particularly right after 9/11 USA attacks and 7/7 London attacks and the association of turban with osama bin laden and taliban. * Religion given a bad name by miltiant muslim extremists and just as bad the militant atheism secularist propagandists pushing their ideology into the minds of naive young kids. Darwinism evolution is taught as fact when it is actually just a theory. Same way science is taught as an atheist concept rather than working alongside and complimenting religion in many area's. Sikhism is the most scientific religion as Guru nanak spoke of millions of planet spheres/ galaxies, numerous realms of existence in japji sahib 500years ago when ruling christian Europeans states were putting to death their own people who dared to speak a little of these confirmed truths. The concept of quantaum physics and string theory validates Sikh scriptures on the wonders of God. So now we have to decide as a kaum what are we going to do to bring back the youth into the fold. The future and tide is quite clearly against the Sikhi khalsa saroop. Maybe it's natural death is coming close, maybe it is part of Waheguru's plan for it will be confined to history sooner or later. However Sikhi spirituality and dharam will never die out because it has core values and truths that no other religion has ever produced. We have to ensure we have a net population growth than negative reduction like jews and christians are facing and Zoroastrians have faced and heading towards elimination as a viable religious community. We have to ensure the pride is restored back in the Sikh youth that yes you can be just as Sikh as next man who has the appearance of a Khalsa as long as you remain true to the core Sikh values and principles of what is taught by SGGS Ji. At the moment alot of youth are distracted by social media, social networking, online gaming, travelling, exams/careers, materialist goods, forming relationships with non-sikhs of different backgrounds. These opportunities were never given to our youth before so they are being bombarded by alot of distracting stuff out there..... and to isolate and further push them way the best thing an enemy of Sikhism can do is say if you dont keep hair you arent a Sikh and boom that potential love for Sikhi seed that individual had was wiped out by an over zealous person before it could grow and take shape. The Sikh parents born in the west are also now thinking and questioning whats the point of going gurdwara when you dont learn anything, or experience that spiritual well being which used to be there in all guru's houses. The gurbani is spoken gurumukhi language that most Sikhs do not understand properly and have little time to learn or translate. If you see the success of abrahmic religions you will see they speak and teach in the language of the community they want to target and once they have gained the interest of the person they teach them advance classes in quranic arabic or bible classes. So granthi's Sikhi parchariks of the future will need to do the same. We have a lot of work to do, but first we need to grab the power back from SGPC and those holding sri akal takht sahib hostage. We can also start making changes by getting actively involved into gurdwara committee's and ensuring they have plans in place to cater for the future of Sikhi. The future Sikhi will be bright but mark-ably different from what it is now with diverse races and backgrounds being the make up of the sangat in the near future....

  6. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh 30 years ago, on 3rd June 1984, Indira Gandhi (a corrupt dictator of India who abused the rule of law) ordered the Indian army to conduct a Sikh Genocide and attack the most holiest Sikh Gurdwara (Sri Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar also known as the Golden Temple) and up to 40 other Sikh Gurdwara's across the Punjab. Thousands of Sikhs, including women and children were murdered. An Indian army of 100,000 mobilized and deployed throughout Punjab with automatic weapons, tanks, artillery, helicopters and armoured vehicles against civilian Sikhs who were mainly farmers. The media was banned. The pretext to the Sikh genocide was that the army were seeking to arrest one man... The Akal Takht, the symbolic seat of supreme Sikh temporal authority was reduced to rubble. Gurdwara Darbar Sahib was damaged with over 300 tank shells and bullets. The Sikh Reference Library with precious hand written manuscripts of the Gurus was looted and then burned to the ground. The Akal Takht treasury Toshakhana with priceless historical artefacts of Maharaja Ranjit Singh was also looted and burned. Can you imagine the Italian army destroying the Vatican? or the Saudi's ordering an attack on Mecca? Some governments, including the UK, betrayed the Sikhs and supported the Indians against the Sikhs. The world's press supported unsubstantiated, false claims by Indian propaganda and dehumanized Sikh's (one of the eight stages of Genocide), calling them extremists/ militants. Are you taking part in one of the many organised marches across the world? If so, where? (New York, London, ?) Why did the world, including the UN, turn a blind eye? Do you think justice will ever be done? To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Sikh Genocide we have released a collection of 71 speeches by Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and a set of speeches by Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra (who uncovered Sikh genocide with Indian Police involvement during the 1984-94 period). Both paid for their service to Sikhi by being murdered at the hands of the Indian state. http://www.discoversikhism.com/sikh_media/speeches_of_baba_jarnail_singh_bhindranwale.html http://www.discoversikhism.com/sikh_media/speeches_of_bhai_jaswant_singh_khalra.html If you have any more speeches of Baba Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra or anyone else, please let us know. 8. See I don't feel that somebody is a Sikh unless they make a conscious effort to accept Sikhi to some degree... I don't think being born into Sikhi cuts it, it's like being born into a family of accountants and claiming to be an accountant. A real Sikh should marry another Sikh, of course. Too be honest jee this I'm coming from my experience as an ex-Punjabi non-Sikh girl who didn't know anything about Sikhi, I can totally understand the mindset of the girls you criticise and I can see how unfair it is to do so.

  10. Shootout outside US gurdwara Sacramento, California: At least one shot was fired during the annual Baisakhi Parade near a gurdwara at 176 E Pole Road in Lynden on Saturday. The police arrested a Whatcom County man after a fight broke out and at least one shot was fired outside the gurdwara. Witnesses reported that several men started fighting in front of the Guru Nanak Gursikh Gurdwara. Balwinder Singh Nagra (41) from the Bellingham area allegedly grabbed a gun from his vehicle and shot at several men. Nagra was arrested and lodged in Whatcom County Jail on the suspicion of drive by shooting and unlawful possession of a firearm. Under the state law, the term “drive-by shooting” includes shootings from the immediate area of a vehicle used to transport the suspect, the weapon or both. There were no known injuries, but the other men involved in the fight left the area. A bullet went through both the passenger and driver’s side windows of a parked white Toyota Camry in a field, about 150 yards from the event, before striking another parked car. More than 1,000 visitors gathered at the gurdwara for the parade. Source: The Tribune http://sikhsangat.org/2014/shootout-outside-us-gurdwara/ Anyone in California sangat know what was the reason behind this shooting? (Better not be gurdwara politics :stupidme: )

  12. Yeah that's true! Me myself I who belongs to a gursikh family kept my hair on my head but still continued to remove other hair! Pata ni kyu, as a girl you just genuinely get this feeling that as long as your keeping the hair on your head, its not that bad if you remove other hair which I've finally accepted it TOTALLY WRONG! :stupidme: I suppose girls have more pressure put on them by society to look good, I mean majority of men turn their face away from 'hairy' girls or its seen as very funny if a girl has a tiny bit of extra hair. I deeply have so much respect of these Sikh women who stand up to society and are proud of the extra bit of hair they have. The bibiyan pehna who are lucky like me that don't have much facial hair anyway have no excuse! And the make up !!! I think that's partly because of the elder women in our families as they'll be like "thora jeha lah la, surki bindi, mooh chajj da lagu" and this will be said EVEN IF YOUR AMRITDAHRI i mean what happened to NATURAL BEAUTY LOL  Salwaar suits are loosing the battle against the western mini skirts or jeans which i cant undertand why because i think salwaar suits are amazing!

  14. Yes, Indira Gandhi attacked Sri Akal Takht Sahib, but who started this whole mess. It was the British when they started their oppressive regime in India and gave the power to another oppressive regime of Nehru Gandhi. Sri Guru Arjun Dev ji was martyred by Jahangir. The hand that caused the torture and murder of our Guru was Chandu Shah. Who did Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib ji punish? Not Jahangir, but Chandu Shah, the hand behind it all. Take the rosary glasses off and see the British for what they really are. If it need to be done again they will go back to rapping, murdering, and committing genocides once again. They have not changed, just the faces have changed.

  15. The people of UK have been deprived of guns because the government has a history of disarming civilians from arming themselves against the British. Look at when these goons came to conquer India. They disarmed Sikhs and armed those people that will help them conquer India. There little kitties in school are taught guns kill, but we only conquer (murder, rape, slaughter, commit genocides) other countries for your protection from the big bad wolf hiding in the woods. They breed kids who hate guns. What these little kitties should hate is the royal family. India cannot have kings and qeens, neither can africa or any other country, but we the British can have kings, queens, prince and princess. They are built on corruption and they continue to breed corruption. We are taught British saved the world, but what really happened is the opposite. They made the Asian world weak by (murdering, rape, slaughter, committing genocides) so the people could not defend the people of the country. After turning the people into slaves they used the same people to help them take over others who pose a higher risk than them. The royal family are the real criminals in disguise. Guru Gobind Singh Sahib ji would have made this oppression regime come to it's knees after destroying the Mughal emperor. Guru Sahib would have never seen the British as a peace making country they portray themselves to be in history books. What peace did they bring to Africa or India or North America. Where ever they went they left a trail of innocent blood and destruction of civilization. It's our way or your head will be on top of a stick and your women will be raped free of their 'backwards' culture and genes. They don't want more Udham SIngh's on their hands delivering them straight to hell.

What a SIKH he would be, who will change himself for a girl He who don't even care about the Guruji's will, for a sake of a girl can cut his hair, I don't think he himself is worthy of being KHALSA. I have seen many punjabi families who are so busy in Show-offs that they don't even care to make their children learn about sikhi, They themselves are so busy with MAYA that they make their children like them and then they complain about things getting wrong with the Youth. I am not sure but my heart says that sikhi will raise to heights in coming years coz this religion is based on truth and practical knowledge.

Expressions of hatred toward someone on account of that person's colour, race, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origin, religion, or sexual orientation is forbidden. Any communication which is threatening, abusive or insulting, and is intended to harass, alarm, or distress someone is forbidden. The penalties for hate speech include fines, imprisonment, or both.

  21. Your anger is understandable. But approach needs to be changed. Even if one retaliates, you spill blood, and our boys will also have their blood split. But what about the Sikh girls who started this war of retaliation? will they stop acting more slutty? stop clubbing? stop drinking? One needs to ask why are our girls are losing their religion and culture and Sharam o Haya? Punjabi Sikh society in general all over the world has lost Sharam and Dharam. Both go hand in hand. One who is Dharami will have Sharam, and when one loses Sharam it is likely they don't have Dharam either. Since young age, when they are children, basics of Rehit and Nitnem should be a part of their daily routine. Only then it will be a part of them for the rest of their lives. Even if they go astray by any chance, but eventually they will come back. Our people need to change their priorities. Instead of building extremely expensive Gurdwaras which have only become centers of Parshaad and Langar eating, our people need to build Gurmat centers, run by Rehitvaan Kamaee vale Singh who have a genuine thirst to impart Gurmat values to our children. This is the only way. It all starts from the childhood and works it's way up. A strong Sikh society is a religiously observant society. The less our people observe their religion, the less sharam our youth will have.

  23. Are the last two posts for real? Sorry I know that isn't addressing the content, but: 1. Something needs to be said, and 2. Still too dumbfounded to respond meaningfully. If the above is any indication, apparently the serious problem clearly lies with men. And stop suggesting there is a general disinterest in dastars. Maybe there is if you live in a bollywood screen and with certain girls. Respectful non sikh women constantly pursue fully bearded turbanned sikhs all over the world, usually respectfully declined. Yet some of us let bollywood tell us who we are. Societal issues, yes perhaps, do discuss respectfully. Keep in mind the topic can be challenging for any young person regardless of background. But on an individual level an iota true Sikh personality and the end result is an abundance of interest from higher quality more confident women. The dastar makes a Sikh aim higher and keeps us from settling for mediocre in every aspect of life. The only challenge a Sikh man should have is being respectful in his response to abundant interest. Don't chase. Live the simple life of a graceful, true to yourself, open minded, poet warrior and the problem will be the opposite.

  24. I've actually realised that the kanga is just seen to a simple wooden comb that is to look after our kesh but what many are unaware of is it has great significance to a gursikhs life and nature. A kanga is symbolic of a gursikhs nature. The rehat maryada tells us that it is important to do the kanga in our kesh 2 times a day. I was told that firstly in the morning when doing your kanga talk to yourself and your Guru about not wanting to hurt anyone throughout the day. Just as you take care and avoid pulling any healthy hair out similarly think about not wanting to upset anyone unnecessarily and at night when doing the kanga again reflect back on your day, have you hurt anyone ? This notion of doing your kanga should also reflect your nature as when you do your kanga you look after the good and healthy hair and the kanga takes out the old and weak hair so when you look at someone, what you do is adopt and 'look after' their good action/behaviour and remove their bad. As result you will be taking the good out your life and leaving the bad behind. This little bit of time spent with your kanga is so important as many human worries can be removed simply by reflecting back on yourself, which In todays modern world we simply do not have enough time to do. When a gursikh will look back and analyse their day and themselves he/she will be happier as your flaws will prevent ego and mistakes will give the solutions to your problems. Finally it will create happiness. We also use our kanga to clean and tidy our hair which is symbolic of a clean and tidy life. Doing our kanga 2 times a day allows us to love and groom ourselves, this does not mean we are being manmukh (self centred) instead we are allowing ourselves to accept natural beauty and thank god for his precious gift. bhul chuk maaf :khalsa:

The current decisions in most Sikhs are coming out of fear rather than a place of love for their path. One can only hope that their youth years are truth gathering years and once they will realize what a blessing Sikhi is they will embrace it whole heartedly.

Regarding the masts the question here is, are those tombs even historically validated? Or are they just structures built by some con-men to con imbeciles? If they are of historic import than some educational, or archaeological body, should undertake to preserve them. Regarding the Jathedar of Akal-Takhat, blast me for my scepticism, but the most you will get out of him is a statement and that will be the end of the matter as far as he is concerned.

  35. No. It is racist. The majority of crime, like everywhere else, is committed by the disenfranchised. America would do better to address that institutionalised racism rather than see guns as an anwser to any social problem. So these 'blacks' ,who's killings and deaths you dismiss, are they some sort of sub-human animals not on a par with human beings ? Are they so unimportant as humans that their deaths en-masse come second to your 'rights' to access automatic machine guns ? The 'fact' is that there are more black 16 year old males in jail in America than there are in college. Thats a truly damning statement that should, in theory, be enough to end this discussion. But of course it won't. It won't because of thinking like this:..... Americans, with their limited knowledge and understanding of the world at large, are intellectualy stuck in the year 1776. You base your assumption on America being a great democracy on the basis that you don't have a monarch with despotic powers. What you fail to realise is that no other western democracy has had one either for many hundreds of years now. In terms of democracy then, it can be best summed up with the 'fact' that no other nation in the history of the world has imprisoned a greater proportion of it's citizens than the United States of America. Not Stalin's USSR, not China, not Iran, not even Pol Pot's Cambodia. This dubious honour falls to America and shows it's self-label as a 'free' country as a complete sham. It is your own government that is oppressive and it is them that are impregnating you with misguided notions of how guns are safeguarding your freedom. Yes. A Sikh. A Sikh stands for sarbat da bhalla. The welfare of all existence. He does not put his own desires first and disregard the damage being done to others simply because most of the 'others' have black skin. Sikhi is organised compassion. There is honour in the shastar. The Sikh, when he masters Shastar vidya and gatka, masters defence first and foremost. The Sikh, when he masters the sword, the chakar etc, defends with ease and lets the opponent wear himself out to the point of ineffectiveness. There is honour in this art of warfare. There is no honour in pointing a gun and pulling the trigger. It takes no warrior to do that. It is something that little old ladies, little kids and mental patients can do. There is nothing 'Sikh' about the gun.

  40. Waheguru ji ka khalsa Waheguru ji ki fateh There is nothing wrong of having another religious person reading spiritual bani of Sikh Guru Sahibs but there are few protocols or maryada when it comes to have guru sahib jee in your home. The person who is not sikh yet but follows the teachings of our guru sahibs are called Sehajdhari (Sehaj means .. slowly slowly adopting sikhi). Sehajdhari Sikhs are in proper roop which is turban/kesh, beard, no meat/alcohol/tobacco or anything like that in your home etc. If you fall in that category then there is nothing wrong in it. However, i would strongly suggest you to keep hair covered and read gurbani from your computer. You can read/listen whole guru granth sahib jee from websites along with translation. We have guru sahib jee in our home and believe me that it is a very very big task of having proper saatkar and protocols of having guru sahib jee living in our home.
