  1. Posted on Gurmatbibek. A good article I came across from sikh24.com. Sri Guru Sahib jee started this great tradition off many hundreds of years ago known as Guru-Kaa-Langar where all come to sit together. Why you should sit on the floor while eating Author: Pavitra Sampath In many Indian households you will find that people sit on the floor and eat their meals. While most of us have embraced the table and chair as a place to eat, there are those of us who prefer to sit in front of the TV and/or sit on the bed and eat. While this might be very comfortable, it might not necessarily be the best thing for your health. Our ancestors definitely had a plan when they made sure we sit on the floor, cross legged and ate our food. Here are 10 reasons going back to your roots is the best for your health. 1) Helps improve your digestion: When you sit on the floor, you usually sit cross legged – an aasan known as sukhaasan or a half padmasna which are poses that help in digestion (since it is believed that when one sits in this pose in front of food it automatically signals your brain to prepare for digestion). Apart from that when you eat from a plate placed on the floor, you will have to naturally bend forward slightly and go back to your starting position to swallow. This constant back and forth movement causes the muscles of your abdomen to be activated and also leads to increased secretion of stomach acids – making it much easier for you to digest food. 2) Helps you lose weight: Sitting on the floor and eating has significant weight loss benefits too. When you sit in this position, your brain automatically calms down and is better equipped to focusing on the food you eat. Moreover this position helps you cognate the amount of food you have eaten and helps you feel full faster. How does that work? Well, the main reason people overeat is because they do not know when they are full. This happens because the vagus nerve (the main nerve that transmits signals from the stomach to the brain) sends signals to the brain as you eat, telling it if you are satiated or not. When you sit on the floor this nerve is able to perform better and transmit signals more efficiently. Also, since this position makes you eat slower than you would while sitting on a table, it gives your stomach and brain time to cognate the signals of feeling full{2}, thereby preventing overeating and binging. 3) Makes you more flexible: When you squat or sit in padmasana, the muscles in your lower back, pelvis, around your stomach and those of the upper and lower abdomen stretch – reducing pain and discomfort. This, in turn helps your digestive system relax and stay in a normal position. Moreover, this position does not compress your stomach in anyway helping you eat and digest better. Moreover, the regular stretching of these essential muscles also helps make you more flexible and healthy. 4) Aids in mindful eating: When you sit on the floor and eat as a family it aids in mindful eating. Not only does it help you focus on your food, but it also helps you make better choices when you eat. Since your mind is calm and your body is ready to accept nutrition, sitting on the floor is the best way to eat the right amount and kinds of food. According to leading nutritionist, Rujuta Diwekar, eating food while concentrating on every aspect of the food – its smell, taste, texture and how much you are eating is the key to losing weight – which is what sitting on the floor and eating gives you. 5) Helps you bond with your family: Usually the practice of sitting on the floor and eating is a family activity. This time is great for you to bond. One of the reasons sitting on the floor is better at helping you bond is because it leads to a calm and happy mind – helping you listen more intently and peacefully. 6) Improves your posture: Posture is very important when it comes to staying healthy. Good posture not only helps prevent injuries but it also reduces the chances of excessive strain on certain muscles and joints, which can lead to fatigue and quicker than normal wear and tear. When you sit on the floor your posture is automatically corrected, making your back straight, lengthening your spine and pushes back your shoulders – beating all the common aches and pains that come with bad posture. 7) Can make you live longer: Sounds a bit unbelievable right? Well, it’s true, sitting on the floor and eating can actually help you live longer. A study published in the Journal European Journal of Preventive Cardiology{2} found that people who sat on the floor in padmasana and were able to get up without any support were more likely to live longer. This is because being able to get up from that position takes a considerable amount of flexibility and lower body strength. The study found that those who were not able to get up without support were at the risk of being 6.5 times more likely to die in the next six years. 8) Lubricates and keeps your knees and hip joint healthy: According to PS Venkateshwara, author of the book Yoga for Healing {3}, padmasana and sukhasana is one pose that has health benefits for your entire body. Not only does it help your digestive system function better, but it also helps keep your joints supple, flexible and less prone to injuries and degenerative diseases like arthritis and osteoporosis. That is because the constant bending of the knees, ankles and hip joint helps keep them flexible and free of diseases. And with flexibility comes better lubrication between the joints making it much easier to sit on the floor. 9) Relaxes the mind and calms the nerves: Sukhaasan and padmasana or the cross legged way one sits on the floor while eating has a number of benefits, and one of its most significant ones is that it calms the mind and relaxes frazzled nerves. A very handy tool, it is believed in Ayurveda that eating with a calm mind helps better digestion and in some cases has even helped people relish food better. 10) Strengthens the heart by improving circulation: Have you ever noticed that when you eat, you tend to feel warmer and in some cases even sweat? Well, that is because when we eat our stomach needs all the energy it can use to digest food. One of digestion’s most important element is a sound blood circulation. To keep up with this process, your heart tends to work overtime to help out your digestive system. Here is where sitting on the floor and eating can help you out. When you sit on the floor your heart gets the benefits of circulation as the blood is easily pumped through the heart to all the organs needed for digestion. This is in contrast to the pattern of circulation when you sit on a dining table and chair, wherein the blood flows to the legs as they are lower than the heart. Therefore sitting on the floor and eating, affords you a healthy heart with strong muscles to help it cope with the pressures of daily life.

  2. Though this has nothing got to do with Sikhi, the topic at hand is an interesting one. Of course lets begin with the usual focus on language. As of the current time period I've noticed a shift towards Punjabi in Bollywood though it is largely stereotyped. Many of the popular songs contain some sort of Punjabi beat, poems, or lyrics. And because of this many Punjabi artists have found their way into Bollywood. They may not be on the big screen or with in the spot light but nevertheless there work is certainty noticeable. Other than the obvious influence on music I've noticed the perception of Sardars has certainly improved in comparison to the 90's and 2000's. I certainly am not happy with the change. I'm concerned where this change is going, I'm referring too the recent poster of "singh is bing" and other observations I have made. I'm of course fearful the this situation seems like is becoming a jump from one hole to another. Now my next point may seem silly but truth is in it matters. Background dancers, if you view bollywood movies or any other sort of media from previous generations "Sardar characters " were included and if they were it was for more or less comedic purposes. Now the Paghs are well tied for the most part and Sardar character has a purpose other than the but end of jokes. Fashion; as we all known everything in this is world is just another trend. And so over the past ~2 years "suits" have had a noticeable increase in popularity not in bollywood, but also it has become more acceptable for the "INDIAN" to where suits vs saris or other things. So lets join together and have a decision about what YOU have noticed. Where YOU think the trends will go. I look for forward to you posts

  3. One of the biggest fear youth have today about joining Sikhi is what will happen to my friendships I have and how will society accept me as a Sikh. What will happen to my business partners will they look at me the same way? What about my friends they might try to avoid me after taking up uncut hair and dastar? They fear the disconnection from what they perceive currently as their heart and soul of their social life. Many worldly pleasures they enjoy now will have to be set on the back burner and this means losing social life associates that were created at bars, pubs, and clubs. Will others look at me weird. None of them will admit this to you directly, but I have spoken to enough of them and this is the biggest hurdle for them. They can't let go of these things. The uncut hair, worldly talks, partying, etc is the thing that keeps them going in life and part of a bigger society. They are the like the heroin addict, but hooked on their social life status provided by their behavior and physical projection. These insecurities they have can only be fixed by truly contemplating over Gurbani and directed by Gurmukhs. The recipe is simple. You got to give them something more powerful that gives them security and a social life, where they can go air out their concerns and questions in an open manner without feeling judged. Some will be better off starting together with others and some will be better off starting by themselves, depending on their personalities.

  6. Mark tully was a bbc reporter based in indian during the 1980s. Mark Tully is of anglo indian background.During his reporting he presents a very selective bias version of the events during the 1980s. Chosees to call Bhindrawale a khalistani, when all evidence show bhindrawale fought for the Anandpur Sahib resloution. Calls the killing of 10000 sikhs in india as a riot. Oxford dictionary definition of a riot as disturbance of the peace, Slaughter of 10000 people is more than an unpeaceful disturbance As a hindi speaker never mentions Amitabh bachans speech blood for blood.Which was aired on state india tv .Any good reporter would have watching all reports of events during the killing of indira gandhi for his homework. Why has bbc never mentioned this speech

  7. I just wanted to start this deep thread regarding reference of hirda many times in Gurbani. My take on Hirda in gurbani have multiple meaning depending on the context its not referred to as physical heart. Yes only few times according to my understanding- refered to anhat-reference point/pointer from shabad surat perspective only few times but for most part its refered to jot saroop where our jot/atma resides and its not location either..i found very deep and interesting article on hirda /heart references in Gurbani but that too looks like all conceptual real understanding will probably come from expereince within: http://www.gurbani.org/articles/webart68.htm

  9. Many police officers had infiltrated the Sikh kharkoo ranks. My family knows this one guy who was born a Mona Sikh. When he grew up he joined the Punjab police. During the days of militancy, he became an undercover cop, infiltrating the Sikh ranks. For this he grew his Kesh and even memorized Bani in order to prove himself as a dedicated Sikh. He later died in a car accident. Another case is of Shaheed Bhai Lachman Singh Babbar. He was a Muslim and an undercover cop. He grew his Kesh and joined the Babbars. But after seeing the spiritual jeevan of the Babbars who would do Paath and Naam Simran, he was greatly moved. He then revealed to them his real identity and joined them in the Panthic Sangharsh and attained Shaheedi.

  13. This is how our brave Sikhs fought against impossible odds against a globalist collective collusion of murderous genocidal white world powers in the "great game" part 2. Not one government truly had Sikh interests at heart nor interested in the welfare and human rights of Sikhs. If the Sikhs had their own country and government they could have adequately defended themselves and given a befitting reply to any mad and heinous attack such as what happened to our kaum in 1984. - Tory thatcher British government supplied military intelligence (SIS / M16) and arms for capitalist trade deals with indian govt - Israel and Russian USSR supplied weapons and training for capitalist trade deals with indian govt -100,000+ Indian troops, intelligence agents, police and paramilitary vs max 250 Sikh defenders of darbar sahib (Golden temple) - President Nixon and Henry kissinger ordered American CIA to covertly supply training and arms via pakistan govt and ISI to afghan mujahadeen resistance and Khalistan Sikh separatists against Soviet allied afghan and Indian govts and influence in south asian region. Yet at the same time banning in public and in their legislature the support to Sikh armed separatist groups fighting for freedom. The american and British government were and are strong western allies and Russian USSR is their enemy as was Indian govt allied USSR it was an enemy to the west in geo-political terms. Yet to finish of and subdue the innocent Sikhs (who just wanted their basic civil and human rights) the worlds governments and powers of the time covertly came together to seek our peoples death and destruction. And to the list if you have more information

  15. This is quite a deep topic and one which we can all begin to understand and contemplate better with experience, development and progress. Firstly, I think it's important to point out that this is not the physical heart but more so what is termed the ''Spiritual Heart'' in many other faiths as well. My main interpretation is referring to this spitiual and sukham hirda that can be felt but is not physical. Although, Sat1176 ji above, correctly pointed out the heartbeat and pulse japping naam so that jap is circulating all round body...... This does concern the physical heart, but that is just the first stage of a few jugtees. The idea is to eventually get the jap and simran all over the sukham sareer and nadis, and it can begin to be felt in the spiritual heart area and all over internal subtle body. Remembering, that nearly all the below is just y interpretation and take on this issue at this moment in time, and it may change complete direction in the coming future !!From the little that I think I understand at the moment........ .....This hirda or spiritual heart, is more mid-chest chest area and being slightly to the right of our physical heart. This is where you could say the God centre, the soul or atma is focally centred It is not like the mind, which is covered with a veil of maya and ego. A few areas to touch upon, that I can think of- 1)the experience and feel of the Hirda. 2)Realtionship of hirda and mind, (if there is any?) 3)Is the harmandir within in the hirda, the mind or both ? You could say, or I would say.. it's the Pure untouched divine within, that is nothing but the Divine love. It's a totally subtle/sukham feeling of energy that can only be described as LOVE. We have probably all felt this spiritual heart energy at times when it can glow and dampen all other feelings and emotions, and this is mostly to some sort of triggers that will lead to this limited experience. Most triggers can be when we may have those moments of extreme joy and excitement because of some good news, new event, attained or given some exciting posession.....etc.... ...It's that feeling when the heart flutters and you feel it beating with this joyful love energy.. But, these triggers are mostly All maya ! What I understand about gurbani mentioning this joy, from, or at the hirda, is the same kind if joy but at a much higher intensity and with no maya triggers or any gains of maya. It's purely some sort of blissful feeling that comes with the Love between the Atma/soul at the hirda, experiencing the love of God/Paramatma. A bit like the Atma(droplet of water) merging and experiencing the affinity of Paramatma(Ocean) Ji▫o jal jal mėh pais na niksai ṯi▫o dẖur mili▫o julāho. ||1|| Like water, dripping into water, which cannot be separated out again, so is the weaver Kabeer, with softened heart, merged into the Lord. ||1|| ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੈ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਸਚੁ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥ Jis ṯe upjai ṯis ṯe binsai gẖat gẖat sacẖ bẖarpūr. The heart-lotus blossoms forth, and they intuitively center themselves in meditation The Lord is able blossom forth when our mind has been subdued and is out of thre gunn maya in chautha padh. When the veil has been lifted and the filth has been removed. ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਵੁਠੜਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ Jan Nānak kamal pargāsi▫ā man har har vuṯẖ▫ṛā he. ||4|| Servant Nanak's heart-lotus has blossomed forth, and the Lord, Har, Har, has come to dwell in the mind. ||4|| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥ Ha▫umai mār kamal pargāsā. Egotism is subdued, and the heart-lotus blossoms forth. ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥ Gur kai sabaḏ kamal pargāsi▫ā ha▫umai ḏurmaṯ kẖo▫ī. Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the heart-lotus blossoms forth, and egotism and evil-mindedness are eradicated Gurbani also mentions the inverted heart lotus for the manamukh and the blossomed one for gurmukh. I think that we can also say that the lord remains firmly in place with our droplet soul/atma with his lotus feet.... ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਬਸਾਇ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਜੀਅ ਕੋ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੩॥ Cẖaraṇ kamal basā▫e hirḏai jī▫a ko āḏẖār. ||3|| Enshrine His Lotus Feet within your heart; He is the Support of the soul. ||3|| ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕਮਲੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ Hirḏai kamal pargāsi▫ā joṯī joṯ milā▫e. The heart-lotus blossoms forth, and one's light merges in the Light I'm not too sure but in the past I've probably used most Mind and Heart references interchangeably. I have now began to realise that may be there is a little more differentiation and maybe we should understand this. So far, I kind of think that Our MIND is what we have to try and control/subdue at first before we can begin to experience the atma/paramatma........ Once we have taken off layers of filth and freed/killed the Mind part engrossed in maya, then all that will remain is the Lord's name or shabad. At this stage, I imagine that we also create that stronger bond between the jyot saroop Mind and the hirda atman within. Man kirsāṇ har riḏai jammā▫e lai i▫o pāvas paḏ nirbāṇī. ||1|| Let your mind be the farmer; the Lord shall sprout in your heart, and you shall attain the state of Nirvaanaa. ||1|| Thus Mind is the farmer and the hirda/soul becomes enshrined and blossoms forth. Suṯ sampaṯ ḏekẖ ih man garbi▫ā rām riḏai ṯe kẖo▫i▫ā. Gazing upon your children and your property, your mind is proud and arrogant; you cast out the Lord from your heart ਮਨ ਕਾ ਤੋਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਖਹੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥ Man kā ṯosā har nām hai hirḏai rakẖahu samĥāl. The Lord's Name is the nourishment of the mind; cherish it, and preserve it carefully within your heart ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੫॥ Gur parsādī man vasai ṯiṯ gẖat pargat ho▫e. ||5|| By Guru's Grace, the Lord comes to abide in the mind; in the heart of such a one, He is revealed. ||5|| ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ Ha▫umai mār man nirmalā har nām ur ḏẖārī. They subdue their ego, purify their minds, and enshrine the Lord's Name within their hearts. As Manmukhs we are slaves to our Mind. In the sense that we let the Mind be the Master of our whole show. Gurbani says that the Mind is like a bird always running in 10 directions, referring to our constant chasing of thoughts. We can't feel our spiritual hirda because of the 5 dhoot influenced and maya-thought engrossed Mind. The Mind puts on the veil of ego and creates the wall of duality, which itself stops us expereincing our real true self of Atma seated in the centre of hirda. As we hammer away at the filth, ego and duality walls, then the connection between the hirda and mind continues to get stronger.. BUT the mind stops running the show because there will be no ego of "me" and "I"...etc.. What happens next ??....... ..........Then, I think that our mind discovers and appreciates it's mool/source and identifies Jyot saroop. Now,.......... it stops being the master and running the show, and in turn letting the SOUL/ATMA be the Master of the MIND. GOAL IS-- To NOT let the MIND continue being the MASTER of our SOUL, but to let the SOUL/ATMA be the MASTER of MIND instead !! At this stage When the SOUL/ATMA is in the complete driving seat and not influenced by maya and 5 dhoot, then we could say that we sure are in PURE HUKAM. Pure HUKAM means that there is completely no influence of 5 dhut ...and everything is occurring outside the confines of Kaal and Maya. as for the last question posed above....... 3) Is the harmandir in the Hirda, mind or both ?? I'm not too sure !! But I would probably guess that it is both, but we have to find the jyot saroop of the mind in order to blend it and have it under the command of God atman/soul. Then, no ego comes into the play and it is all the pure hukam, and the gurmukh experiences only love, divine love. There are no feelings or emotions of joy or sad, pain or sorrow..etc.... but just divine love....and all in his sweet hukam governed by his prem and love. (tera banna mittah lageh)

  17. We need to have death penalty in place for those who commit apostasy or convert to another religion. All other religions are false and their so called prophets were just impostors. Similarly, any Sikh girl that crosses her limits deserves to have her legs broken and locked up in the house. I grew up in Punjab in the eighties when Khalistan movement was at its peak and I remember the Singhs enforcing the law in the late eighties. Nobody dared to cut their hair and all the liquor shops shut down their business. Most of the fake Sikhs Panjab. For a moment Khalsa Raj no longer seemed to be a dream. Even though I utterly despise muzzies and everything associated with their filthy cult, I think Sikhs could do well to emulate their strict adherence to the fundamentals of religion. Yes we need to go back to the basics and adhere to the basics of Sikhi and guard it with zeal and fanaticism. There is nothing wrong with being a fundamentalist. All non Sikhs are vermin and we are superior to them. We are the chosen ones and need not follow the evil and heretical ways of the malecch. We need to adopt a policy of militant fundamentalism to bring our religion back from the brink of extinction.

  18. http://www.tribuneindia.com/2014/20140426/main5.htm#1 M A I N N E W S The Tribune investigation: Part-I Badal-Kairon-Majithia clan’s growing biz empire Devinder Pal Tribune News Service The list of assets filed by the members of the extended family of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at various times of nominations in polls, including recently by his daughter-in-law Harsimrat Kaur Badal, gives a glimpse of their vast business empire spread across transport, hotels, media, power, and non-conventional energy. In this first of a series, The Tribune checks out on their companies and intertwining of shareholdings and directors that hints at a conflict of interest. Sukhbir: No conflict of interest Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal (pic) claimed all his businesses were above board. Talking to The Tribune, he said: “With a clear heart, I can say that there is no clash of interest. When Capt Amarinder Singh was the Chief Minister, he tried to fix us but was unable to find anything illegal in our business deals. Then he tried to condemn us using various means. All our papers relating to property, land, hotels, bus companies were thoroughly examined by various agencies let loose on us by the Congress, but nothing illegal was found.” Sukhbir maintained there was nothing shady about his businesses and no discrepancy had ever been found in the companies owned by the family. “My family and I file income tax returns without fail and our accounts are maintained in a professional manner. My shareholding in my companies is listed on official websites.” He dismissed reports of any wrongdoing in transport, hotel and media companies. “The transport company is owned by the Badal family since 1947 and my hotel business is also scrutinised by government agencies concerned. My ownership of the PTC is in public domain.” Chandigarh, April 25 When SAD-BJP candidate for Bathinda Lok Sabha constituency Harsimrat Kaur Badal filed her nomination papers with the Election Commission last fortnight, in an accompanying affidavit she listed her assets at Rs 12.02 crore and that of her spouse, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, at Rs 96.14 crore. Together they totalled Rs 108.16 crore. This marked a whopping increase from Rs 60.31 crore that she had listed during the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, just five years ago. In the 2012 Vidhan Sabha polls, Sukhbir Singh listed his assets at Rs 90.86 crore, against Rs 13.38 crore in 2004. Yet as a Tribune investigation into their overall assets and ownership of companies reveals, the declaration masks a maze of business interests and investments that are intertwined with the extended family of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. Incidentally, as against his son and daughter-in-law, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s assets as per his declaration in 2012 were only Rs 6.75 crore, down from Rs 9.20 crore in 2007. Surprisingly, his name does not figure in any of Sukhbir’s vast empire of companies. Wealthy extended family The Badal’s extended family too are known to be wealthy. Chief Minister’s son-in-law Adesh Partap Singh Kairon, who is married to his daughter Parneet Kaur and has a host of business interests, declared his assets in 2012 at Rs 51.23 crore, and in 2007 Rs 20.81 crore. Kairon is the grandson of Punjab’s former Chief Minister Partap Singh Kairon. Sukhbir Badal’s brother-in-law Bikram Singh Majithia, currently a Punjab minister, too belongs to a well-known business family. In 2012, he had declared his assets at Rs 11.21 crore, and in 2007 Rs 9.16 crore. Among them, the Badals, Kairons and Majithias own a plethora of companies. Together, they have a finger in the pie across multiple businesses — transport, hospitality, media, civil aviation, power, energy and even agriculture — across the state. Among Parkash Singh Badal, Sukhbir Singh Badal, Bikram Singh Majithia and Adesh Partap Singh Kairon, they hold charge of 27 portfolios in the state. Of them, Sukhbir, wife Harsimrat Kaur, sister Parneet Kaur, brother-in-law Adesh Partap and brother-in-law Bikram Majithia have business dealings with the state. Incidentally, the names of Sukhbir’s cousin Manpreet Singh Badal or his father Gurdas Singh Badal do not figure in any of their businesses. The initial days Old-timers recall how Punjab’s ruling family of Parkash Singh Badal till 1988 was no more than a well-to-do farming family dabbling in the transport business on the side. By 2013, Orbit Resorts, the parent company of the vast business empire of Sukhbir and Harsimrat, was worth Rs 726 crore. Of the total value, the share capital is Rs 11.72 crore, reserves and surplus Rs 713.83 crore and share application money Rs 75.22 lakh. The major expansion of the Badals’ businesses came after March 2007, when the SAD-BJP alliance came to power for the fourth time. In the transport sector, they owned only two companies — Orbit Travels and Dabwali Transport Company. Now in road transport alone, they have business interests in at least four companies — Orbit Aviation, Taj Travels Private Limited, Dabwali Transport and Indo-Canadian Transport Company. Indo-Canadian Transport Company is their latest acquisition and its current shareholding is not reflected in the documents of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA). The Badal-associated transport companies not only hold a virtual monopoly in the luxury bus segment but are clearly the dominant player in the private sector. Though none in the family has of late held the state’s transport portfolio, the Punjab Chief Minister has on more than one occasion intervened on behalf of the department. A perusal of MCA documents shows the Badal family and their close associates are on the board of at least 12 registered companies and shareholdings cutting across multiple businesses. In some cases, investigations show, the companies of the extended “Badal parivar” may have benefited from not just the Punjab Government but also the very ministries of which portfolios were held by them. When asked by The Tribune, Sukhbir Singh Badal, however, maintains there is no clash of interest in his business dealings and governance of the state. Hospitality foray Besides transport companies, there is another company, Metro Eco Green Resorts Limited, in which the Badals have a major shareholding — Sukhbir Badal (39.49 per cent) and Harsimrat Badal (54.09 per cent). Its directors include Lakhvir Singh and Mohammad Jameel, who are known Badal loyalists. This company is in the process of setting up Eco Tourism Resorts, less than 10 km from Mullanpur township, which the SAD-BJP government has pushed with full vigour, despite Opposition parties alleging that this was to add value to their old poultry project that had failed. What is today Metro Eco Green Resorts Limited was earlier Continental Hatcheries Private Limited in Pallanpur, which was incorporated in 1985. The changed company (Metro Eco Greens) has approvals of the Chief Town Planner. Incidentally, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal is also Punjab’s Housing and Urban Development Minister. Harsimrat Kaur is a director in Metro Eco Green Resorts, besides Orbit Resorts Private Limited, from where she draws a salary of Rs 3 crore per annum. Incidentally, Parneet Kaur, daughter of the Chief Minister, also has a share in Orbit Resorts. Kairons’ ventures Kairons’ business interests include the ones in power and agriculture sectors. One of their companies is Shivalik Telecom Limited, in which Parneet Kaur and her mother-in-law Kusum Kumari are directors. Adesh Partap Singh Kairon along with Parneet and Kusum is a shareholder of the company. In another company, of which Adesh’s brother Uday Kairon is the CEO is Shivalik Agro Chemicals Limited, which has dealings with the Punjab Agriculture Department. Adesh and Uday are directors in another company, Shivalik Farm Chemicals Limited. In Shivalik Electric Equipment Company Private Limited, Kusum Kumari is a director. Each of these companies is engaged in business dealings with the very state departments — power and agriculture — held by the Chief Minister. Transport business One of the companies in which the extended Badal family has a direct interest is Orbit Aviation Private Limited, into which the Badal’s flagship transport company, Orbit Transport, merged in 2010. The transport companies of the Badals have constantly been in news over the past seven years and faced allegations of blatant high-handedness and misuse of power. Though the Majithias had at least five companies before 2007, Orbit Aviation Private Limited was incorporated only in June 2007 - three months after the SAD-BJP formed the government. It started with Satyajeet Singh Majithia (Sukhbir’s father-in-law), Gurmehar Singh Majithia (Sukhbir’s brother-in-law), Mohammad Jameel and Mohammad Rafiq as directors. Since 2011, Sukhbir has displaced brother-in-law Gurmehar Singh Majithia (Harsimrat’s brother) and mother-in-law Sukhmanjus Majithia, who were the original shareholders in Orbit Aviation. The company reportedly owns two fixed-wing aircraft and a helicopter. Sukhbir’s present stake in Orbit Aviation is through a series of transfer and purchase of shares between November, 2011 and March, 2013. MCA documents suggest Sukhbir now holds a majority of shares in Orbit Aviation with Orbit Resorts controlling over 2 crore of its shares. Stake in media Sukhbir also owns a range of media companies that dominate prime time viewing in the state. His media firm G-Next Private Limited now owns PTC Group of channels — PTC News, PTC Punjabi, Chak De — besides PTC Motion Pictures, a film company. The fulcrum of the media-related companies of the Badals are Rabindra Narayan (RN) and Rajee M Shinde as directors. They are directors of Gur-Baz Media Private Limited and G-Next Private Limited with the same address (F-137 Phase VIII B, Mohali). The major stakeholder in the companies that own PTC Group of Channels — through a circuitous route —is Sukhbir Singh Badal. Punjab’s Minister of Information and Public Relations is Bikram Singh Majithia. The Majithias, too, are said to have taken benefits from the Punjab Government through Saraya Industries Limited. Though this company has been in operation since 1980, it has been engaging with the Punjab Government for setting up co-generation power plants since 2008-09. Its directors include Satyajeet Singh Majithia and Gurmehar Singh Majithia. Among the shareholders of the company is Bikram Singh Majithia, who incidentally is also holding the portfolio of Non-Conventional Energy. The family loyalists The Badals run their companies through a select group of people who hold top positions in their ventures: Among the shareholders in Orbit Aviation are two brothers — Mohammad Jameel (1,69,728 shares) and Mohammad Rafiq (13,249 shares) — who belong to Bathinda. Interestingly, Mohammad Jameel is also the managing director of Badal-owned Dabwali Transport Company Limited, which operates buses. Jameel is further a director in Orbit Resorts Private Limited, which runs a five-star property in Gurgaon. The same person is also a director in Falcon Properties Private Limited, Global Promoters Private Limited, Punjab Animal Breeders Private Limited, and Metro Eco Green Resorts Limited. Incidentally, the address of real estate firm Falcon Properties Private Limited has the registered address of H No. 256, Sector 9, Chandigarh — the private residence of the Badals. Mohammad Rafiq is a director of three companies - Punjab Animal Breeders Private Limited, Dabwali Transport Company Limited and Falcon Properties Private Limited. Besides the two brothers, others key persons who figure repeatedly as directors or shareholders in various companies of the Badals are: Lakhvir Singh, alias Lakhi, a resident of Handiaya village, Barnala district, and Jagpal Singh, a resident of Selbrah village, Bathinda district. Lakhi is the managing director of Taj Travels Private Limited. He also remained director of Orbit Resorts Private Limited till April 15, 2014. He is also a director in Hargobind Travels Private Limited, Shan-e-Punjab Private Limited, Taj Entertainment Private Limited, Indo-Canadian Transport Company Private Limited, Good Luck Advances and Finlease Limited and Metro Eco Green Resort Limited. Jagpal Singh is a director in Shan-e-Punjab Travels Private Limited, Taj Travels Private Limited, Hargobind Travels Private Limited, Taj Entertainment Private Limited and Indo-Canadian Transport Company Private Limited. 19. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Was the Anandpur Sahib Resolution the real reason why the hindu led government in 1984 committed Sikh genocide? Was the Anandpur Sahib Resolution the real reason why hindu's continue Sikh suppression? why they deny Sikh's justice? and why they have racist (overt and covert) policies against Sikhs? What's the Anandpur Sahib Resolution? read here - http://www.discoversikhism.com/sikhism/dharam_yudh_morcha.html http://www.discoversikhism.com/sikhism/anandpur_sahib_resolution.html http://www.panthkhalsa.org/raj/raj_1984.php]http://www.panthkhalsa.org/raj/raj_1984.php]http://www.panthkhalsa.org/raj/raj_1984.php http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anandpur_Resolution]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anandpur_Resolution]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anandpur_Resolution Compared with 30 years ago, in Punjab today, more subtle methods of warfare are being used. 'Organizations' are spendings millions in campaign's to "hindu-ize" Sikhs into the old-Brahmanic fold. Several methods are being used to weaken Sikh insitutions which include the corruption of the future Sikh generation (which will cause the new generation to lose its religious identity). Other methods include discrediting strong independent Sikh leaders and infiltration of Sikh groups, institutions and forums.

  20. Veer "Confused" jee, remember you are not the only one going through this struggle. The Mann is very stubborn, unstable and hard like a rock. The Mann will resist when we try and meet our Preetam Pyara. One of the keys in bringing the mind under control and increasing our faith in AkalPurakh is through pyaar (love). We must engage in "prema bhagti" - do bhagti (naam simran, paath) with pyaar. Actually struggling with our Mann is a good sign, it shows that we are walking on our path to meet Gobind. When we walk the path that is sharper than a sword and narrower than a strand of hair it is normal to encounter difficulties and our faith will be put under pressure. When we face difficulties it is important that we still maintain Rehit (amritvela, nitnem banis) this way we can stay under the sharan (protection) of AkalPurakh. We must engage in abhiyaas of Gurbani and do vichaar of Gurbani. If we meke effort to understand (i.e. understanding difficult words, reading arths, teekas) Gurbani this will increase our understanding and bring us closer to Parmeshar. The more we engage in Gurmat karams - seva, simran, paath, gurbani vichaar the more our rock like Mann will soften and come under control. Remember this is not 100m sprint but a marathon. There are ups and downs in this path of bhagti, sometimes are faith increases and sometimes our mind becomes stubborn and faithless. It is imperative that we do not falter in Rehit and just keep on doing abhiyaas of Gurbani and Naam. This phase of "losing belief" will definitely pass, like the night turns into day. It is the saints who have unfaltering faith in Parmeshar. However these Gurmukhs are rare jewels who have done immense kamaee of Gurbani and Naam. If we maintain our Rehit and Bhagti throughout these "struggles" our faith in AkalPurakh will be stronger than before. Only those struggle who walk the path, those that never walk the path may not face the struggles but they can never know or experience the bliss of the bhagats. Satguru Mehar Karan. Bhul Chuk Maaf jee.

  22. It would have been nice if the pictures had words alongside them. Seeing interesting pictures and not knowing who, what and why , actually makes you wish you never saw the pictures in the first place.
