  1. Who ever is the Jathadar should be completely independent of any political party. He should be Gianvaan, Shastardhaari, Dharmi and who does Bhagti. But one thing is for sure as we have seen, who ever is Jathadar, the institution of the Panj Pyaras should be strengthened so the Jathadar consults them on matters(instead of politicians) and in case he does anything that is against gurmat, the Panj Pyaras could step in as the recent Panj Pyaras of the Akal Takht have done.

  2. I also think we need to be careful of some white western converts baggage too, I mean I'd be worried that they'd start advocating gay anand karaj's and stuff like that. They have very 'liberal' attitudes towards these things. That's not to say that we Panjabis don't have our own baggage of crap we bring in btw.

  3. Baba Deep Singh Ji was already enlightened. He was part of the Recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji when Guru Gobind Singh Ji was having Bani put together during the process of handwriting the Saroops. While he was fighting during the battle he was reciting Path as well, His words came true. To us that alone should point out just how much power and spirituality he possessed. Gurmat, well that's a tricky thing to define. Gurmat would be anything our Guru Sahib instructs us to do, Baba Deep Singh Ji was following Guru Sahib's orders. The Order of the Khalsa to protect and serve. Even decapitation didn't stop him.

  5. A young man (in his early 30's) from Surrey, Canada, has been missing for the last 3 weeks. People are beginning to become concerned as it's not like him at all. Normally, a day doesn't go by without his name or face appearing in the media. Family and friends are desperately concerned and fear his dissappearance may be connected to recent events in the Punjab region of India. Police issued a statement yesterday desperately asking him to make his whereabouts known. It is thought he may have gone into hiding in order to hide his own shame but the statement made clear that his safety and well-being is the only thing everyone is concerned about. We just want to know that he is OK....alive and well. It is thought his shame may emunate from the fact that, during the last elections in Punjab, he appeared in Badal's election campaign adverts, urging people to vote for Badal because "Badal is fantastic and the best thing thats ever happened to Punjab". Given recent events, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police think his recent inactivity and silence may perhaps be connected to the public support he gave to Badal. If you see this young man or know of his whereabouts please let the authorities know. Let anyone know. Police have issued a despiction: 5'8" tall. Brown complextion. Really really stupid haircut. Even funnier goatee beard. An excessive amount of cheap jewellery. Sometimes waves his arms around and walks like a bad actor doing a bad impression of a black or hispanic gangster. Addicted to the playground game 'Rock, Paper, Scissors'. Plays it everywhere he goes. All the time. Known by the name of 'Jazzy B'.

  7. The system of Sikh governance is this that one Jathadar leads but he has Panj Pyaras that he consults and who if needed can step in. This is the system created by Guru Gobind Singh Jee. When he made Baba Banda Singh Bahadur the leader of the Sikhs, he also gave him Panj Pyaras who he must consult on matters. The Panj Pyaras are Guru roop. So the Akal Takht Jathadar post must remain but the post must be occupied by a Sevadar of the Guru not a Chamcha of Badal or any other politician. This is the system that should be adopted in all Gurdwaras, 1 Jathadar and 5 Pyaras. In fact, when Khalsa Raaj is established, this is the system that must be adopted.

  10. I personally think it should be a Gora Amritdhari. Firstly, it will help in breaking Sikhi from the shackles of Punjabyat. Secondly, the jathedar will force all of us to evaluate whether or not many of the man-made blind rituals we follow are actually compatible with gurbani.

  12. This part is Ninda and lie because it never happened. It always happens the same way. Whenever Nihangs get caught siding with the wrong guys they justify it by lying and recreating history. The Akal Takht episode happened just like this. When the Akalis were liberating the Gurdwaras from the corrupt British backed Pujaris, the focus shifted towards Akal Takht. The whole Panth was annoyed at the Pujaris of the Akal Takht who had refused to accept Kara Parsad from so called low castes Sikhs. When the Pujaris saw Sikhs coming to liberate Akal Takht from them, they panicked and approached the Nihangs for help by saying to them that you are Guru's Ladli Fauj, come and take custody of Akal Takht before it is too late. When the Sikhs approached they saw the Nihangs who were drunk after drinking sukha bhang. First the Sikhs respectfully asked them to hand over the Akal Takht to the Panth and not do the wrong thing by siding with the Pujaris/Mahants in this. The Nihangs who at this time had lost all their sense and Hosh since they had too much Bhang to drink refused. That is when Sikhs lost their patience and took them out forcibly. After taking all the Nihangs out, they put them on carts and had them driven to the Nihang Chauni in Burj Akali Baba Phula Singh since they they were too drunk to actually walk back to their destination. Years later the Nihangs try to justify their anti Panthic stand by recreating this story and coming up with new things like claiming that the Akalis who themselves were readers and believers in Dasam Bani speared the Dasam Granth and threw it out with the spear(which is impossible to do with a spear). They always seem to do this whenever they get caught standing on the wrong side of the fence against their own people. They do the same thing now with the events of 1984 and after where they stood with the enemies of the Sikhs. And I'm not saying all Nihangs. Some Nihangs go against the Anti Panthic stand of their Jathadars. After liberating the Punjab based Gurdwaras, the Akalis made the mistake of adopting the western election system which basically has handed our Gurdwaras to unscrupulous politicians. What the Akalis should have done is to adopt a selection system with some modifications which would prevent any political party like the SAD or Congress from dominating or interfering in the religious affairs of the Sikhs. The SGPC should be so autonomous that it should even have it's own representation in the UN

  17. I think some Sants are just stuck on the wrong side. They know Badal is wrong but they don't want to go against their group(Sant Samaj). It's like the Mahabharat war where many good people know Duryodan is wrong but they still side with him against the good guys. Sant Samaj needs to do the right thing and break all links with Badal or else history will not be kind to them when our kids and grand kids will read about these events. They are already being shamed by Sikhs today and when they die what face will they show Guru Sahib when Guru Jee asks them what Majboori they had that they became friends and allies of a Panth Dokhi like Badal.

He can be like a mandela type figure, in that he has spent a unfair amount of time in prison under a fascist/discriminative regimes, and can lead his ppl into a better future, with MASS MASS support worldwide. Oh and hes a hard nut! Also he was an ex-panjab police officer, so he knows the ins n outs of whos shady n whos not. Hes a 100% pukka khalistani, nuttin more, nuttin less. He has that i dont give a F*** attitude that sant jarnail singh had, where he didnt bow down to bribes/kursi(seats of power).

  20. Why on earth would the Mods / Admin here change the name of this thread without taking the time to understand the deeper non-racist context of the thread title ? i.e the solidarity between 2 groups of people that the system is deliberately designed to keep down: Black people in America and Sikhs in India. The original title of the thread, for those that had the intellectual capability to understand, was the fact that the exact same terrible statistics about the way blacks are teated are treated by the criminal justice system are also (according to the official Indian govt stats) also applicable to the Sikhs in India. The blacks in America suffer them because the system de-values their lives and thinks of them as nothing more than 'n****rs' and as such, my thread had the intention of getting inside your minds and making you realise how the Indian system does the exact same to us and thus the solidarity between us and the blacks. Most of you understood that. Obviously the Mod / Admin here that saw fit to change the thread title to 'My name is Jagsaw Singh and I have no Respect' does not !!! To the other Admin / Mods: Do you think you could explain to your colleague the nuances of language / semantics and how, given their right context, they convey a different meaning to what the un-padh might initialy think ??? Please.

  26. The problem stems from our infatuation / respect of wealth: http://www.sikhsangat.com/index.php?/topic/77599-sikhi-and-wealth/?hl=%2Bsikhi+%2Band+%2Bwealth Personally, if I was in Punjab thinking about who to vote for, I would respect the opinion/ recomendation of the poor man, who struggles but works hard to feed and put a roof over his family's head. Such a man is my hero. Such a man would influence my voting intentions. So, in many ways we're back to what we're discussing in that other thread about who we would want to see as the next jathedar of the Akal Takht. I don't want to put down any of the names on the poll of that thread but the issue of wealth and 'culture' is relevant because, for example, I've seen how they all travel, i.e in petrol eating environment destroying monster jeeps. They all profess to have gyan about Sikhi but none of them stop for one moment and wonder how their anti-environment actions are incompatible with what Sri Guru Har Rai taught us. That is not true gyan.

  27. Graphite and Charcoal drawing of Maharaja Ranjit Singh with his generals. It took about 110+ hours over 12 days on A2 (420x594mm) paper.Which is for the upcoming Sikh Lens Exhibition in LA in November 2015. Maharajah Ranjit Singh Sandhawalia (November 13, 1780 - June 27, 1839), also known as "Sher-e-Punjab" ("The Lion of Punjab"), became the first Sikh Emperor after uniting the 11 Sikh Kingdoms of Punjab on the foundations of the Khalsa and under the banner of Sarkar-i-Khalsa, from 1799-1839. He was also the first secular ruler of the punjab region in India. So had soldiers and generals from all races and religions including a few european generals. So this Drawing has his two most well known sikh generals 'Hari Singh Nalwa' (right) and 'Akali Phulla Singh' (back left). And two of his european generals were french 'Jean Francois Allard' (left) and the other italian 'Jean Baptiste Ventura' (back right). Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa (17911837) was Commander-in-chief of the Khalsa, the army of the Sikh Empire. And was one of the greatest military leaders in history. Hari Singh Nalwa was responsible for expanding the frontier of Sikh Empire to beyond the Indus River right up to the mouth of the Khyber Pass. In 1831. He served as governor of Kashmir, Peshawar and Hazara. And He established a mint on behalf of the Sikh Empire. Akali Phula Singh (1 Jan 1761 1 Jan 1823) was a prominent and highly respected Akali Nihang Sikh leader. He was feared by the British who at many times ordered for his arrest but were not successful. During his later years he served for the Sikh Empire as a direct adviser to Maharajah Ranjit Singh. He remained an army general in many famous Sikh battles up until his martyrdom in the battle of Naushera. He was admired by the local people and had a great influence over the land[4] and his settlement was always open to help the poor and helpless. He was well known and was a humble unique leader and prestigious warrior with high character. Jean-François Allard (1785 - 1839) was a French soldier and adventurer. In 1820, Allard left for Punjab, where he in 1822 entered the service of the Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He was commissioned to raise a corps of dragoons and lancers. On completion, Allard was awarded the rank of general, and became the leader of the European officer corps in the Maharaja's service. Allard was a charming and gentle man, very different from some of the other European mercenaries in the Punjab. He also took the trouble learning Persian, and is said to have composed poetry in his new language. He continued to serve the Maharaja until his death in 1839. Jean-Baptiste Ventura (25 May 1794 3 April 1858) was an Italian soldier, mercenary and adventurer who ended up in the Sikh Empire in Punjab. In 1822 He travelled east, ending in Lahore with Jean-François Allard. They took service with the Maharaja Ranjit Singh of Punjab, and soon got to prove their worth. In March the following year, both Allard and Ventura held command in the Battle of Nowshera where a combined Afghan force was defeated, resulting in Punjab's capture of Peshawar. Together with Allard, Paolo Di Avitabile and Claude August Court, Ventura formed the group of European mercenary officers responsible for the modernizing of the Sikh army. Ventura was highly thought of by the Maharajah, and in addition to the rank of General, he was also appointed kazi and Governor of Lahore. He served faithfully under Ranjit Singh and his successor, On Mahārājā Sher Siṅgh's assassination in September 1843, he left the Punjab. Taking his fortune with him, he lived out his days in comfort in Paris, where he died on 3 April 1858. https://m.facebook.com/757948990886082/photos/a.758133187534329.1073741828.757948990886082/1143146652366312/?type=3

  28. But they probably wouldn't spend as much as the first one hey ?? I also think it's not a bit overrated, but very overrated. I think some people don't use their common sense when it comes to weddings and parties. That extra overspending could be spent on more worthy things, such as for their future, household costs etc or charity.

There are many strange things about this thread but the strangest of all has to be the way the thread starter (Big Tera) introduces the topic by stating something must be done to beat the alcohol problem among Punjabis but by the 5th page he's actively boasting about alcohol drinking capabilities and the pride he feels when Punjbis drink. I'm confused. Whats this thread about again ?

  32. Here is some guidance on this wider subject of sevadar from Sant Attar Singh Ji Mustaneywale: One who feels like giving a lecture should refrain from doing so. But one who does not desire to give a lecture should do so. For one who like to give a lecture,he does so to feed his ego and cleverness. But one who is not inclined to lecture, the Lord himself comes to his assistance and swords will come forth from his inner soul. [What use is chanting, and what use is penance, fasting or devotional worship, to one whose heart is filled with the love of duality?O humble people, link your mind to the Lord.Through cleverness, the four-armed Lord is not obtained] [set aside your greed and worldly ways.Set aside sexual desire, anger and egotism.Ritual practices bind people in egotism;meeting together, they worship stones.Says Kabeer,He is obtained only by devotional worship. Through innocent love, the lord is met.(Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji 324)]

  33. As Sikhi is your main concern in this matter then I think it would be best if the meat you buy is free-range. And organic to avoid all the gandh. If lamb is gonna be part of your diet make sure you check where its come from as supermarket lamb from NZ is apparently Halal. Oh and depending on what exactly is wrong health-wise ask your doctor/dietitian/nutritionist if eating liver would be of any benefit. Its seen as a desi cure at times 'jadon seth maari ho gai'

  34. I don't think western born as akaal takth jathedar is good idea as there are cultural of differences - akaal takth has to understand its people they represent and also most often we see lots of 3ho western sikhs they fail to make hard fast decisions they are more on piri side as opposed to balance miri and piri side. But they definitely should be in team of akaal takth jathadar to spread sikhi out in west for example: Dalai lama has strategically placed richard gere (buddhist convert Chairman of the Board of Directors International Campaign for Tibet) as its ambassador to west to do parchar of buddhism in the west and push for free tibet.

  35. I think it is more to do with the prayers done over them myself. Anyway, let's not go on about it. This forum has a policy on the subject: so I'm going to respect it. But to iterate - people shouldn't be meddling in medical advice when someone is serious ill like they've been through medical school. I think the OP has had a range of perspectives on the matter now and should make their personal decision. Probably better to close the thread now before it denigrates into arguing over meat eating versus vegetarianism?
    1 point
  36. Vegetarian here. But this advice is spot on, people need to stop getting involved in things they probably don't grasp well enough. It's a different story if you're an actual medical specialist. Akal gave you intelligence, apply it. I knew someone in a similar boat as well, It's heartbreaking.

  37. Don't eat halal or kosher though. It makes me laugh when people start over-riding medical advice like they have medical degrees. My brother was in the same boat as you, and he was a vegetarian since he was a kid, then he became increasingly ill and lost so much weight he looked like he had been in a prisoner of war camp. Doctors advised him like they did you - so he eats meat now (only chicken), but not all the time. He doesn't look like he is at death's door anymore.

Now Ram Singh is also saying that they want the Jathedars of Takhats gone and if it's not done within the next few days, then they will sit outside the SGPC/Jathedar office and hold protest continuously. Gurbachan was with Iqbal. When Makkar came, he asked Iqbal to get out of the room and then had a private conversation with Gurbachan. The news is that 3 Jathedars in Punjab will resign or will be kicked out after Guru RamDas Jee's Gurpurab. Then Dhumma and Sant Samaj meets with Badal and Sukhbir (notice how they get a meeting so easily) and ask for resignation/removal of Jathedars. They only did this to gain some points and as a show...once everything is already finalized and setup. They are SO FAKE!
