  5. Happy diwali everyone. Let's remember how our beloved sixth Guru spent time imprisoned in Gwalior Fort and didn't forget the good people he met there when he was going to be released. Waheguru. Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Hargobind Ji. A true saint soldier and guide for humanity.

  6. People should seriously stop splitting hairs about calling Diwali - Diwali. Dasmesh Pita didn't hesitate to call it such in his hukam-namay. So call it Bandi Chor by any means but don't be ignorant of the fact that Guru ji referred to the day as diwali himself.

  11. When I met my fiance first time in India this summer, she touched the topic on Amrit. She isn't Amritdhari herself. This was our 1st meeting. I made it clear to her, if you wish to take Amrit or not it up to you. Nobody will force you before/ after marriage. That put her at ease. Now, I am about to tell you why you should never ever ever force anyone into taking Amrit. Do I mean putting them at gunpoint? No. I'm talking about nagging them! Everytime u see/ meet that one or two persons you mite say silly things like "Why aren't u Anritdhari? Your parents are? You hubby/ wife is...?" First of all, EVERYONE knows about Amrit lol. Trust... EVERYONE! Nothing is being hidden from them. Now, you're unnecessary nag may compel them into taking Amrit. What happens in next few years?? The compelled individual(s) will either be suffocating or Amrit broken. However, there is a correct way into motivating others. Individuals will step up and say "I too wish to be Amritdhari." THEN U motivate them; keep your kes, do simran n seva - whatever level you feel they're appropriate at. If they wish to go ahead or step down BEFORE having taken Amrit, YOU should accept their wishes. I said exact same things to my fiance. However, reason for both couples t be Amritdhari, first is so they're truly level meeting on vichaars n second is to do with jooth (germs). One method of jooth is sharing food. Second is intercourse. During the act germs are shared. I left it up to her for her wishes. I'd rather her say "I took Amrit as it was in my heart/ own wishes" instead of "I only took Amrit as he's Amritdhari." I took Amrit as it was my own desires. With kirpa it been 12 years of bliss n Anand. My dad is Nitnemi plus I found the right crowd (Friday nite sangat Gurudwara) and thas it! Kirpa happened. Thas all it took. Fair play, you mite ask sum1 once about them wishing to take Amrit. But constant nag will do them ZERO favours. And don't think they'll tell u off! Some people are powerless to speak up about their wishes to remain NON Amritdhari.

  12. it was a proud and historic day for the Black Country as the UK's first full statue of a South Asian First World War soldier was unveiled in Smethwick - to mark 100 years since the end of the war.

  13. I find it hilarious but also disheartening when Sikhs refuse to say "Diwali". Such a sad state of affairs and such a poisonous (and retarded) mindset. Hindus also celebrate Bandi Chhor...Sita Ji was released from captivity too. Nice parallel there for people to think about. Put that in your Diva and light it.

  14. not sure what you meant but original I had heard that it was similar to qualankas of sufis but I think those are of maas also so would have been abhorrent to nonmuslims ... The hindu bhandaras seemed to be on special occasions only not a daily thing from what I had read in other places . Not doubts Kings in the past may have feed the people to avoid death and rebellion .

  15. Theres is a big difference between a caveman sharing his loaf of bread or whatever cave men ate. Then an organised religion serving food in all of their temples to anyone of any faith for free. Yes mandirs do that but not in the sikhs generous way

  20. before announcing such plans, you should be doing research massive amounts of reading of Gurbani and sikh history because anything you write should be fully fact checked .

  23. SGGS, you can try to criticise SGGS but fail I.e. "This shabd doesn't match that shabd, this text is complete different from that." Etc etc. All words co ordinate into one another, from Ang 1 to Ang 1429. Even Sikh code of conduct co ordinates with SGGS! Something to think about...

  25. Really? Is this sarcasm and has it gone over my head? ? Do you have any examples? As someone who considers himself well outside the realm of Hinduphobia even I find this a little hard to believe. On the few occasions I have actually been to a Mandir, I saw that Langar or Prasad as they call it is only prepared if 1) someone has a family event (Puja etc) 2) it is festival. Mandirs are usually not open all day either. Individuals also stick to one Mandir due to various factors - deity/samparda, linguistics, caste (all of which is actually not that different from Gurdwaras lol) but my point is they seem to be more exclusive; while there's nothing stopping people from going to any Mandir, they typically don't. The different castes (tradtionally) wouldn't eat from a caste lower than them either...not sure about now, however, many Brahmins do keep next level sucham to this day - like Taksalis. I personally do not think they ever had anything like Langar given what I know and my own experiences. I could be wrong.

  26. not the concept that Guru ji gave us birthed from samm drisht , in hindu 'langar' they give more or less quality foods according to status and caste and only on festivals , there are a few south Indian temples that do langar but are we sure that they were not influenced by Guru Nanak Dev ji's southern udasi to change its nature ?

  28. Proof? Sufi Muslims...even if they did have such a thing and even if was open to everybody, would not be compatible with many dietary restrictions. Yeah sure there may have been and probably are things similar to Langar but I am almost certain they are not as inclusive as Langar as started by Satguru Ji. Most religions have some concept of a communal meal but in no way, shape, or form does that mean it's "adapted and copied" lol. Langar is for anyone, anytime, irrespective of...well anything.

  31. It’s called free will. Even born into a Sikh family doesn’t make you a Sikh you have to do take Amrit. Gurus were here not to tell us how special they were but how special we all are. True masters create masters not followers.

  33. What are the origins of Langar. I have read that its not something unique to Sikhism. It was first started by sufi muslims and the was later adapted and copied by Sikhs.

  34. Your views and points may be 100% sound, but others who think differently (even if they're mistaken) will resist actually giving your thoughts any due consideration if you take an adversarial tone. Referring to any parcharik and those that share their line of thinking in a belittling or degrading way will have them go deaf to any legitimate and factual points you have. If you talk to them in an impolite way they will reject every point you make and become even more firm in their own views. If your aim is to show others that they may be misled or have an incorrect understanding, than that is completely counterproductive to your goal. I say this as your haami, not your virodhi.

  36. I’m not a Taksali. Why are you a ghaghri cult follower? Why do you think SGGS has lies in it?

  37. no gursikh says the Gurus are liars. Therefore this ghagri is not a gursikh. He has gone against Gurbani. There is plenty of evidence in this very topic alone about ghagri. You should have some shame calling someone someone like ghagri a gursikh.

  38. Thousands of years ago, the dharmi rajas of India had a free meal service. This free meal was available to anyone. The name given to this free meal service was shaatar. It was usually served near the gates to the kingdom. The word ‘langar” is a Persian word. Even today, there are many free meal services, by various organisations. We have to concede though, the taste, and the bliss in Guru Nanak’s langar is unparalleled. Waheguru...
