  2. I think a lot of you apnay just like talking shyte for the sake of it, a bit like jananian in the langar hall. What has this got to do with us?

  3. Tyrants in this janam have amazing karams from previous janams. Or that's the Punjabi explanation I've heard all my life. As an explanation, it doesn't hold up to scrutiny.

  4. Why is there a full turbaned Sikh singing hymns during the funeral. He's dressed up properly as a Christian choir boy.

  5. Just noticed a dastar wala singing in the choir at the funeral...either a convert or a passion for Christian hymns!!

  6. We don't have to get involved in this matter, nor dispense langar to both sides during their fighting breaks but... We have to keep a keen eye on these developments because this is a relatively new phenomena. The Hindu diaspora has been largely a docile one in history. There are very few instances of such clashes happening before, Hindus stayed pretty silent even when their women were groomed for decades in the UK. Now we have this happening, the clashes between Hindus and Sikhs in Australia (Vishal Jood case) and so on. The Hindutva goon ideology is spreading and will most likely form a menace for Sikhs in the coming future as well. There might be some Indian Govt interference in such instances as well. We have to be prepared for clashes in the coming years on 1984 or Khalistan related remembrance events.

  7. Why can't your brother do IELTS? Why does he need to be married? Tell him to go work in Mumbai or Dubai and support himself and his mother like a man. Where is his anakh? Why are visas and women the only way out? It's sad panjabi boys who have never left panjab or seen beaches of India, want to go to canada...

  8. Hello Guptang I’m sorry to read your post as you seem unnecessarily despondant. You clearly have a very high IQ and are well educated. So what is the problem? You expect a just God to give you results that you think are fair. And herein lies the problem. You have no right to expect anything from anyone. Each of us come here with our Karmic baggage and we are expected to make the most of it. If there is injustice then we are duty bound to try and correct the problem within our capacity. For example, we may join a political organisation in the hope of bringing a better future. But you are speaking of your colleagues acting unwisely and still getting better results. How strange. God does not work in the way that you think. The world is run on our thoughts, actions, dreams and emotions. So your classmates may be playing the fool, but they are clearly getting good results because of their high IQ or because they are putting in the work required, or both? Why are you judging them? If you think they do not deserve their success, then you should focus on why you are not getting similar grades and put in the hard work. If they didn’t deserve it, then they wouldn’t get it, surely? If there is foul play going on (cheating) then you can take some action, otherwise there is not much you can do. You must focus on your own life and your own goals. What are these? In life you must lead the life that you are meant to be doing. What I mean is that if you are really incapable of achieving what others are achieving then you must choose a different field of study. Are you studying medicine when you should be studying some other subject? You should work according to your capacity based on the body God gave you, the brain He gave you and the family you have. However, from your post you clearly have a good brain. But your attitude may be lacking. Perhaps you do not have enough fun in your life and are too serious. Do you find time to relax, enjoy yourself? Do you take good exercise, spend time with friends. This is what gives us emotional satisfaction, not just achieving good grades. As for ending it all, I think you must be depressed. But this depression seems to be because of your false belief in a God that is not doing your bidding. It could be simply a case of the green eyed monster showing its evil ie. Jealousy. But seriously, if you are serious about ending it all, you need professional help. This is not the age to be contemplating such things. You seem too young and haven’t even started out in life. Do you not have dreams of a bright future for yourself? If you are not inclined to see a doctor, then I suggest you take a holiday/break and find time to relax and enjoy yourself. That is also a part of life. Good luck.

  9. As Sikhs or even South Asian for that matter. We should never celebrate or like the royals or the history of them. Their ancestors trampled all over our lands and the sub continent. Killing millions. The British Raj was discraceful. They looted South Asia, what is Britain today. Is all the wealth they stole from all the colonies they ruled all around the world. Asia, Africa, far east even America and Canada. These pesky people stole and looted where ever the greedy muddy hands took them. It's in their DNA to steal and loot. She is not our queen and Charles is not our King. Our only King of Kings is Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Abolish the monarchy I say. I don't even think the so called "Royals" want to even continue with it themselves. Look at Prince Harry he's left and exposed the royals. They all feel trapped and have become puppets for the government. I bet so many older generation gorafied Punjabis will be wishing they get as far up the royals bund as possible in the new few days.

  11. She was a pretty good Queen (from a Canadian prespective). In my opnion Sikhs in the UK should keep an eye on King Charles. We have a close knit relationship with the British despite our tribulations. Yes they were our enemies at one point but they were also our friends when it came to progress and what not. They honoured our people when it came to bravery and courage. Can we trust the British after all the rifts? This is something we have to ask ourselves and our leaders. But then again they probably turn a blind eye when it comes to us and circumstances. WJKK WJKF

  12. Woah this thread seems to come back all the time from nowhere. Lol. Amazing to know it was not just me who noticed the head and shoulders formula change. Yep I can also relate to many of the posts. I ended up throwing away 5 bottles myself while experimenting with their different formulas. Anyway. If it helps. The one I found the most similar to their original formula that they changed was "Men" head n shoulders one. It's still not like the old one. But it's the best replacement. And about 90% same. Here's my thoughts on why they changed it. It was simply to make more money. The old shampoo formulae gave you a couple of days of dandruff relief even a few days. The new formula gives the same dandruff relief. But you need to use it everyday or at least every other day. So their aim is to basically make you shampoo your hair more frequently and use more. Basically meaning you have to buy more and their profits go up. Head n shoulders men is pretty much the same as their old formula. But you have to wash more frequently throughout the week to ensure dandruff free scalp.

  15. This ex-copper reckons that they are conditioned to be like that during training, and the threat of prison is used to keep them in check. Also, docility. I know from reading about colonial gorays initial opinion of Sikhs (in recruitment drives in the late 1800s) that they considered certain members of the community to be docile and 'slow to learn' and compared this characteristic to working class brits. This vid is well worth watching to contextualise our own issues with grooming, Looks like we've got a longstanding system established here.

  16. I have to say, little punch ups like this happened all the time when I was growing up. I don't know if it is a good idea to blow such incidents up like is possible in social media, these days. Back then you didn't have people walking around with video cameras everywhere. More of this used to go on than now I reckon. ?????

  17. That is probably due to them being an isolated brown/asian community up north. It's not like living in Southall or Ilford were it's heavily populated with Desi's. Ie Asian restaurants, social events Asian shopping areas. It's like living in the real England. Preston and Blackpool are small towns with low desi population. It's a different matter in big cities up north. Ie Manchester and Midlands where there's big population of us Desi's. Ie its all about having 10 pints down the local boozer. Wearing a Liverpool FC shirt and going by the name of Bob or Steve. Many are just white wannabes there.

  18. We need to use our brain rather then brawn. It's not about mindless violence. Sikhs are minority community. We don't have numbers on our side like Muslims and Hindus or even blacks for that matter. Hence we need to stick together. Not sure about the many Sikhs are bullied because we're soft. Many Sikhs are simply out numbered. So can't exactly fight a gang alone by themselves. If it's one on one many Sikhs can easily hand themselves in a fight

  19. Lol Not in UK. Generally, most Keshdharee sikhs / gursikhs are family people here, they are professionals who stay away from violent confrontation. They have comfortable lives. I think the moneh who are involved in crime / drugs have more fighting spirit. Even in Punjab, sikhs aren’t what they used to be. Look at the battle of saragarhi in recent history....21 sikhs vs 1000s of afghans. Sikh children often get bullied at school. I encourage all parents to send there children to jiu jitsu, boxing or thai boxing (these are most useful / practical in street fights from what I have seen)

  21. Controversial and minus any hard science on my part, but a genetic predisposition to ingratiate themselves with the ruling class, which gets more pronounced the higher a person ascends the social ladder? The added twist in our instance is when there's some negative feedback from other Sikhs who don't exhibit these traits and they highlight this weasley behaviour, there's a tendency to resort to religiously based fallacies and distortions in order to justify said behaviour. So, one could argue that the greater somebody steeps themselves in worldly knowledge and principles, the more susceptible they are to rejecting the realities of life experience that contradict their programming even in the face of overwhelming evidence. I dunno, bro, I'm no sociologist, I'm a joiner and occasional tiler. ?

  22. What's your deal, bro? You seem to like to post a whole bunch of quotations from various sources without any sort of context. OK, so Col. Steinbach wrote a book. What's your point? What do you make of it? Are you saying that because Steinbach wrote a sentence regarding some things he saw, that applies uniformly to all Sikhs? Secondly, are you making a religious point about Sikhs and meat? If so, state it explicitly. Thanks for the link to the book, though. Very interesting. Also regarding the fact that Maharaja Ranjit SIngh was a profligate drinker, again, what are you trying to prove? That Sikhs should be drunk out of their minds? You do realize that the Sikh kingdom was totally destroyed, and the foundations for its destruction were laid during the Maharaja's time because he failed to set things up like he should have. Does that have anything to do with being a drunkard? Perhaps you ended up proving the exact opposite of your intended point. Thanks for that.

  23. It’s quite apparent you will deny the truth even when it’s in black and white right in front of your eyes. The passage quoted by kabeer is a salok, that’s its beginning, middle and end. A very simple passage of gurbani from maharaj. Whoever consumes cannabis, fish, wine goes to hell. If you don’t accept what guruji says and are intent on twisting gurbani to suite your own beliefs, then there is no point discussing further. People reading this thread can make up their own mind.

  24. I honestly believe that the context of shaheeds of the past taking sukha is something we can't really grasp today because we've been thoroughly brainwashed with outside culture notions of these practices. Most significantly is the concept of 'drug classification' on what would have been perceived as a naturally occuring potential medical plant by people growing up native to the plant. So you are already transposing outsider frameworks on the practices. (Ones introduced by the brits no doubt). What is ironic is that the west is increasingly recognising the outright failure of their ('war on drugs') approach towards the use of these substances and are slowly but surely adopting a line more akin to ancient Indic practice, where criminalising the substances never occurred, and society self-regulated their use. Regarding the pangti from Bhagat Kabir above. That, I believe, refers to the ritualistic use of those substances in certain Hindu pilgrimages sites/religious practices that were common. It rightly condemns these as futile for the sought after mukti. Example of ritual fish. Why don't people post the full shabad of Bhagat Kabir Ji! We should be wary of just posting pangtis because they may not reflect the complete shabad and only give us a partial understanding. The context of these pangtis is VERY IMPORTANT. It's not like certain rehatnamas with short explicit instructions, a deeper meaning is implied in Gurbani usually.

  25. 100 or so years from now, historical observations from the late 80’s and early 90’s armed resistance of Khalistan Guerrilla Fighters is going to be examined and debated upon. They will find some of the Guerrilla fighters used Afeem (Opium) to help them stay alert and fight fatigue during the harsh times when they were being hunted or carrying out missions. Examining this through the present we can say that by no means was ‘Afeem’ a part of their Rehit Marayada, or were they encouraged or given exemption by the Jathedar of Akal Takhat to do so. They did this because they simply chose to do so. Unless anyone can submit evidence from Sikh sources or written Hukamnama from the 18th Century that taking Bhang was part of Sikh Rehit Marayada, this is no more than an observation of ‘some Sikhs who chose to do so’.

  29. Well I live in London and its a big place as Im sure Birmingham is. I think its worth while travelling far if need be to find a good place that does combat training. Its also worthwhile finding out which is a good one to do. Many are not practical for real life situations. Ie someone comes up to you with a knife or other weapon.

  30. One could argue killing an insect helps speed its journey through transmigration. Ive read sakhian, actually read mcauliffes books start to finish. Didn’t read any stories about not killing insects. Also some stories aren’t accurate. Sometimes you have to use common sense. Bacteria are living organisms yet we culture them in yoghurt and ingest them... many die in our stomach acid. Is this negative karma? What would you do if there’s a wasps nest on your house? Would you put out poison for mice?
    1 point
  31. I’ve been bitten by spiders and stung by wasps without provocation. Im no jain nor a follower of mahatma gandhi. At war we kill men. We aren’t hindus. I’m vegetarian but if the need arises to kill I will kill. If you find mice in your house you going to put out cheese for it? Pests inside your own house / personal space need to be dealt with. Would you kill a mosquito? Or put up with a sore itchy bite just so the mozzy can have a meal? i had a wasps nest on my house and got the council to pump it full of pesticide. I felt no guilt whatsoever. One sting can kill you if you have a reaction. If you have kids it’s a worry. Last week I woke up with 2 spider bites weeping puss, which could have become infected. In my opinion killing such pests is fine.

  34. Have you tried childrens farm brand of kids shampoo they are very mild , you ciuld add a few drops of lavender and rosemary essential oils to make it antidandruff , even usinglive yoghurt on the scalp as an alternate day treatment will get rid ofoil and leavehealthy bacteria onscalp to boost body's resistance against fungi causing dandruff. In purataan times that how Singhsused to clean their hair. Getsomesun and air to your scalp after washing it all helpa.

  35. Head and shoulders have a rep for causing hair loss would suggest trying other brands for dandruff control and scalp issues elvive has two antidandruff formulae one male marketed the other phytochemical based tried that one is very kind to my fine hair . Can always use extraordinary oil conditioner to boost condition of hair .

  36. Yeah head and shoulders worked for me as well but then it started drying my hair so I stopped using it, I only use it like twice a month. Tea tree shampoo has worked for me. Do you drink lots of water? Lots of water is one of the best things for oily scalp. Also wash you hair with cold water, warm or hot water makes the oil and dandruff worse.
    1 point
  37. I have nwver tried that. To be honest ive tried various different shampoos but nothing worked. Only head and shoulders did the trick for me. But now they go and change their formula. Which is causing more dandruff.
