Guest baba amarjeet singh

you said both of you want to become amritdhari one day

i suggest this is before your marriage as an anand kaaraj is only complete with the blessings of maharaaj when two amritdhari gursikh wish to get married

and also, you never know when your life will come to an end

Guru sahib is bakshanhar, and as this is a sikh forum, gurmat should be discussed. phenji i would advise that you take amrit as soon as possible. 1 becasue it is the purpose of life, to worship vaheguru, and 2 because guru sahib will forgive u for ur sins and u will be reborn. as a reborn you will be like a child, pure and innocent, there will be no sin within you as guru sahib will have accepted you as his daughter.

at this stage and past sins activities are worthless and pointless in remembering. gurbani recognises that we make mistakes, and asks vaheguru to forgive the past and to guide us in the future.

for the people making a big deal of someones mistake, a few words to you. firstly be careful with your words, we can all fall and nobody knows whats around the corner. secondly you make big deal of the fact that she 'lost' her virginity. but why? if by virginity you mean purity and innocence, well by taking amrit she becomes pure and innocent. if you mean physically .. well the body purifies itself and the gursikh is concerned with the purity of the soul more than the body which is just a clay shell.

if you say she has had relations outside of marriage then she cant/shouldnt marry a singh or someone who hasnt then answer the following ...

could/should a singh who hasnt ever cut his hair marry a girl that USED to cut her hair?

could/should a singh who never smoked or drank marry a girl that USED to smoke/drink?

(same for singhni marrying a singh who did x y z)

if your answer is different then why? the above are also kureaths in sikhi and they are no different from a girl having outside of marriage relations.

learn compassion and forgiveness and drop your egos. we try and be gursikhs but we still have male dominant ego over 'our females' as if they are property! look within urself first and see the dirt and even then dont try and look down on another.

to the sister who posted the topic, penji life is hard and we all make mistakes, take amrit and live a gursikh life and put the past behind you. drop the weight from your shoulders and move on. ur husband will be more upset about the fact that u cant let the past go then about the fact that u made a mistake.

he said what he said cuz he lacks deep understanding of guru maharaj...

if two people aren't amritdhari, their anand karaj will still complete with the blessings of guru sahib if those two people yearn sincerely for guru sahib's blessings as well as make guru sahib the centre of their lives...some people judge this by saying oh...he took amrit..so the guru must be the centre of his life and therefore his anand karaj is complete with blessings..

however, there are moorakhs like me who may be amritdhari, but fail to make the guru the centre of our lives on a daily basis...instead further strengthening the place of our ego...

the key is to do gurmat vichar on what the lavaan say....probably a good idea to do this with elder gursikhs...and understand that the lavaan is not only a comitment to each other, but a commitment as one soul to living in such a way that it merges back with the lord...for sikhs, part of living that life includes taking amrit...but when to take that particular step is different for everyone...

please elaborate young man

i lack understanding because i disagree with your views?

no, i never said tht being amritdhari means that you have guru as the centre of your life, i said that one must be amritdhari before getting married.

when the singh and singhni go around guru maharaaj, they have already given their heads to the guru, so are now making a commitment to their partner and to their guru.

without amrit you have no guru

stop trying to make things all complicated and just accept the facts

when i say something you disagree with, you say its because, i have misinterpreted gurbani, or because lack understanding of guru maharaaj, perhaps u can be more specific?

    • Umm, that's totally irrational, bro. There are plenty of prakash-dara Singhs in Punjab (less than we'd like, but still plenty). No one cares that you are sabat soorat. It isn't 1986. You can walk around in chola, kurta-pajama, or jeans. Whatever. If you want the look @dallysingh101 is referring to, just go into a cheap clothing shop (not a Western-style mall) and buy some shirts for 250 rupees or a track suit for 2000 rupees. You'll get the cheap stuff made in some sweatshop in Bombay.
    • The Mind is Jyot Saroop (Waheguru), but the mind is under the influence of five evils… Through Naam Simran( Rememberance), the mind will begin to detach from evil, and get back to its original form ( MANN TU JYOT SAROOP HEH)… Until the mind breaks free from the five evils, one will go through the cycle of paap and punn….which leads to Karma… Naam Simran destroys past karma, and prevents new karma coming into fruition… I did this, I did that… This non realisation of the Jyot Saroop gives rise to paap and Punn, which in turn gives birth to suffering and misery…
    • I agree we're not born with sin like the Christians think. Also I agree we have effects of karma. But Gurbani does state that the body contains both sin and charity (goodness): ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਦੁਇ ਭਾਈ ॥ Within the body are the two brothers sin and virtue. p126 Actually, we do need to be saved. Gurbani calls this "udhaar" (uplift). Without Satguru, souls are liable to spiritual death: ਜਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਵਸਿ ਕਾਲ ॥ p40 Those who have not met Satguru Purakh are unfortunate and liable to death. So, yeah, we do need to be saved, and Guru ji does the saving. The reason Satguru is the one to save is because God has given Satguru the "key" (kunji): ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਥਿ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹੋਰਤੁ ਦਰੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥ In the True Guru's hand is the key. None else can open the door. By perfect good fortune the Guru is met. p124
    • That's unfortunate to hear. Could you give any more information? Who was this "baba"? He just disappeared with people's money? Obviously, you should donate your money to known institutions or poor people that you can verify the need of through friends and family in Punjab.
    • Sangat ji,  I know a family who went Sevewal to do seva sometimes end of 2019. They returned last year in great dismay and heart broken.  To repent for their mistakes they approached panj pyaare. The Panj gave them their punishment / order to how t make it up which, with Kirpa, they fulfilled.  They were listening to a fake Baba who, in the end, took all the "Donations " and fled sometime over a year ago. For nearly 4 years this family (who are great Gursikhs once u get to know them) wasted time and effort for this fake Baba. NOT ONLY this one fam. But many, many did worldwide and they took their fam to do seva, in village Sevewal, city Jaitho in Punjab. In the end many families lost money in thousands being behind this Baba. The family, on return, had to get in touch with all the participants and told them to stop.  I am stating this here to create awareness and we need to learn from whom we follow and believe. It's no easy but if we follow the 3 S (Sangat, Simran and Seva) we will be shown the light. As I am writing this the family in question have been doing the same since 2008 onwards and they fell for this Baba... it is unbelievable and shocking.  This am writing in a nutshell as am at work on my break so not lengthy but it deserves a great length.  Especially the family in question, who shed light on youngsters about Sikhi 20 plus years!!
