Bibian Facial Hair And "singhs"

Recommended Posts

<<<<<<<<personally.. i dun tink a SINGH has any right to 'bash' bibian who talk about facial hair problems... us 'singhs' don't know how difficult it is to a be a female in todays society, let alone a female with facial hair... its easy for a singh to walk around with khula dara (open beard) buh i's nah so easy for a kaur to walk around with facial hair... especially if i's a case of excessive facial hair...>>>>>>>>>

fine i am a singhni. i have facial hair. i say bibia need to toughen up! wats the big deal its hair! who cares, whats guru sahib thinks is alot more important. bibia had ther babies cut PIECE BY PIECE and hung around THEIR NECKS! and we start crying over some beautiful kesh tht guroo sahib has given us!

so fed up with 'boo hoo we have to live in society' we shudnt care bout wat society thinks, if we thought of guru jee as much as we did society, we would have clocked it.

this maybe my opiniion, but heeras comment is HIS opinion doesnt mean its right.

i understand what ur sayin bhenai... buh also another way to look at it.. some bhenji's weren't fortunate enough to be brought up in a sikhi environment... also possibly weren't in the sangat of a lot of amritdharee bibian who have facial hair.. so we also have to be understaning of that..

so possibly, a bibi who after x # of years has never learned anything bout sikhi, its very tough... which is where we as brothers and sisters (mostly the sisters i would say) come in and educate, inspire, and walk with them 'hand in hand' on their spiritual journey :D

a person (whether singh or kaur) must fall in love with the roop first... then only can they dawn it with pride... after that, facial hair doesn't even become n issue, n u dun even need to notice it..

i totally agree with Heera singh n B4ND4!!!

and yh GUYS are the FIRST to CRITICISE and the FIRST to play a role of HYPOCRACY ...... not all but MOST

they go on and on about singhniyaa not keeping facial hair but most "singhs" wouldnt accept a Singhni with a lot of facial hair and deep down most of you know you wouldnt

Those Singhs who accept Singhniyaa with excessive facial hair are what i call real khalseeyy of Dhan Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji!!!!

all you men who think you can all of a sudden put yourself in the place of a woman should realy get a reality check because its easy to criticize but you can never empathise with themm....ONLY another WOMAN can!!!!

man up and start accept a woman with extra facial hair or jus shut up n lay off the topic

ohh and i thought ide mention how one camp these guys , quite a big group were over heard by an amridhari bibi laughin and takign the mik out of singhniya with alot of facial hair in general.... she left that camp wanting to hide away from the rest of the world and wanting to remove her facial hair..... these "singhs" call themselves Gursikhs?

Singhnia - lead by example....this is coming from a singhni that has facial hair.

Singhs - no offence but you guys need to sort yourselves out aswell - I know of so many singhs that mock those singhnia who has facial kes but forget that for a second, these so called singhs are going for non-dastar bibyan...I dnt know what the deal is with that. They seem to prefer the girl who ties her hair back, does her face up a little and has a bit of jewelery.

Oh well - anyway the overall msg I am trying to put across is lead by example to all those singhnia that do those dumb stuff - apae beejh apae hee kao. Please stop dissing the true singhnia cuz by doing wat you do, thats what you are doing. If you are not ready to keep ur kes on ur face then you are not ready to wear a dastar.

Absolutely right. But I think we should do something to ensure that removing hair doesn't become something that is accepted in sikhi/sangat. Once ppl that remove their hair feel they are accepted in sadh sangat, will they feel encouraged to keep their hair?

I guess the best way to do this is to have role models in sangat that play important roles, such as keertan seva and other seva. Am I on the right track?

so true.........in todays society, there are some parents of singhniah are not very supportive and are constantly telling their daughters how they will never marry bcos of their appearence............

a sighnee should see her facial hair as a strenght bcos once she overcomes the physical papearence barrier she has liberated herself and can continue to make progress in her sikhi.............but we need a lil unserstanding and respect.................how is the sikhi path suppose to grow with now pyaar support or respect for the singhniah who wanna keep rehit and follow hMahraj's hukam but are discouraged bcos of social/society based issues on what contitutes to being and "acceptable" form of appearance?

We can say all goods about bibian with facial hair but the real test is if we can really accept(marry) a bibi with facial hair. I am told some guys make all kinds of excuses to avoid getting married to someone with facial hair but never directly give the main reason for rejecting em.

How unfortunate is that??

    • Generally speaking (I'm not making this about your particular experience), if her last rites were performed according to Sikh maryada, then she wouldn't "be" with anyone, much less in a specific country with another person. That's what happens to so-called ghosts or spirits who haven't been able to pass over; they cling to people they loved or with whom they had an affinity when alive. Sikhi states, from the various things I've read over the years, that the worst thing that can possibly happen for the deceased is for their essence to remain tied to a living person or people. This would suggest the final paats, ardaasa, etc., conducted in the name of the deceased didn't work or fulfil their intended purpose. Then you have to ask yourself, "why?"

    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-58996186 Vikings had a settlement in North America exactly one thousand years ago, centuries before Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas, a study says.     IMAGE SOURCE,GETTY IMAGES Image caption,Replica Viking homes and other items at L'Anse aux Meadows, a Unesco world heritage site in N Scientists say a new dating technique analysing tree rings has provided evidence that Vikings occupied a site in Newfoundland, Canada, in 1021AD. It has long been known that Europeans reached the Americas before Columbus's arrival in the New World in 1492. But this is the first time researchers have suggested an exact date. Writing in the journal Nature, scientists said they had analysed the tree rings of three pieces of wood cut for the Norse settlement at L'Anse aux Meadows. They said that using an atmospheric radiocarbon signal produced by a dated solar storm as a reference, they were able to pin the "exact felling year of the tree" to 1021. Such a solar storm - a huge blast of radiation from the Sun that hits Earth - was known to have taken place in the year 992AD, the scientists said. This enabled them to determine a more accurate date than previous estimates for the camp of about 1000AD. "The association of these pieces with the Norse is based on detailed research previously conducted by Parks Canada," the study says, adding that there was clear evidence the sampled wood had been modified by metal tools. It adds that the L'Anse aux Meadows camp was a base from which other locations, including regions further south, were explored. The authors say the discovery represents a definitive point for future research into the initial consequences of transatlantic activity, such as the transfer of knowledge and the potential exchange of genetic information and pathologies. Dr Colleen Batey, a Viking specialist associated with the Institute for Northern Studies in Scotland, says the study does not necessarily suggest Vikings were not in the area in 1000AD. "It suggests that the short-lived settlement was active in about 1021 when wood was being worked at the site, probably related to either building or ship repair," she says. "As an archaeologist, I might interpret this as one stage of the occupation activity, not necessarily the first or indeed the last." L'Anse aux Meadows, a Unesco world heritage site on the northernmost tip of the island of Newfoundland, is the first and only known site established by Vikings in North America and the earliest evidence of European settlement in the New World. Radiocarbon dating is a technique that measures residual concentrations of a radioactive isotope of carbon (carbon-14) present in an object. Carbon-14 decays over time and measuring how much is left tells you the age of a sample.
