Sat Sri Akal:

Rakhi (aka. Rakhri, Raksha Bandhan) is an Indian festival and has no connection with Sikhism.

Well, look at what the Rakhi represents. Rakhi (the thingy males tie on females) literally means guard. The symbolism is that the Rakhi is a committment made by brothers to their sisters that they will always be there to protect them, also implying that all women are incapable of defending themselves. In Sikhism, instead of giving women Rakhis, Guru Sahib blessed BOTH men and women with the Kirpan, which symbolizes taking care of yourself when the need arises. The two are quite opposite. So for any Sikh woman to have their brothers tie Rakhis on them makes absolutely no sense.

And for those women who are in dire need of a Rakhi...go put on another Kara. It is the "Rakhi" of Guru Sahib...how much bigger of a brother than that could you get?
