A speeding driver who knocked down and killed a man in a hit-and-run has been jailed for three years.

Uninsured Omar Tariq, 31, was travelling at 61mph in a Mercedes E250 convertible in a 40mph zone when he hit Peter Price, police said.

He drove off after the crash, in Quinton, West Midlands, before stopping further down the road.

Tariq, from Stourbridge, admitted causing death by dangerous driving last month.

The vehicle was a courtesy car loaned to his 23-year-old girlfriend Parvinder Ubhi, also from Stourbridge, after an accident.

Although she was a passenger at the time of the crash in November 2014, she told police she was driving.

She pleaded guilty at Sandwell Magistrates' Court last August to permitting the use of the vehicle without valid insurance and obstructing the police by falsely claiming she was driving.

In police interviews, Tariq said he had been driving towards Birmingham to collect his two sisters from work and told officers he "wasn't...doing ridiculous speeds".

But police said witnesses proved he had been travelling in excess of the speed limit for a considerable time prior to hitting Mr Price.

Mr Price had been on his way home from a night out with friends when he was hit.

Despite attempts by passers-by, police and paramedics, he died at the scene as a result of multiple serious injuries, police said.

After the collision, police said Tariq "failed to stop and rather than help, drove a further third of a mile before pulling on to Birch Lane and calling the police".

Speaking after Tariq was jailed for three years and four months at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday, Mr Price's father Bob Harrison said it had been a "long and very difficult" 15 months.

"The loss of Peter has been devastating to all who knew and loved him," he said.

"Pete was a fantastic guy and will always be sorely missed."

Tariq, of Denton Road, was also disqualified from driving for five years.

Disgrace to her parents, lets hope her parents are made to feel the heat from the community.

Evil punjabi girls who get off with non-sikh guys should be seen as worse than rapists and pedophiles only then the rot will stop.

I think you might have lost the plot. These girls are very, very stupid - they are not evil and they're definitely not worse than paedophiles.

No haven't lost the plot , what I'm trying to say is the sentiment we as a community must generate is that going off with a non-sikh guy especially a muslim is committing a grave crime.

The shame/disgrace/humiliation factor has been done away with in the modern western countries and this has lead to punjabi girls thinking they can get away with anything. Back in the day fear and respect for what your parents and community will think kept girls in check and not pollute their minds, hearts and wombs with islamic virus but now times have changed and our peoples have become more liberal in thinking therefore we will continue to see a rise in these kind of cases until action is taken at grass roots level and that starts with the family, friends and leaders.

Why are we ragging on this girl?

She clearly had bad karams from a previous life. We should all pray for Waheguru to pay off our karams in this life too.

We recite JapJi Sahib every day. Read the 25th pauri and understand it Guru ke pyareo!

I don't disagree with you about that bro, but your comparing these girls to child rapists was completely over the top.

Once again, it's girls from the Midlands. Whilst this happens in most places, the Midlands is disproportionately represented in such statistics.

What is going on up there?

Anyone else curious to see where this will all end? What's the end game for us in situations like these?

The anarchist in me says to let the pieces fall where they may. What can honestly be done about animal attraction?

    • 1. Can you share the source of this reading? So we can all get some more context and verify the validity of this reading material please?   2. Raaj isn't really preached in the teaching of the Gurus. If so, I'm sure the 10 Guru's would've clearly made this apparent in their teachings and would have accomplished this objective themselves.    Sri Guru Granth Sahib - Ang: 534 (Guru Arjan Dev Ji): Raaj Na Chahou Mukat Na Chahou Man Preet Charan Kamalare. (I do not seek power and I do not seek liberation. My mind is in love with your lotus feet)   Sri Dasam Granth Sahib - Ang: 57 (Bachitar Naatak):   Ham Ih Kaaj Jagat Mo Aae. Dharam Heth Gurdev Patthai. (I have set foot on this Earth for this one reason; to propogate righteousness)   Jahaan Tahaan Tum Dharam Bithaaro. DushT Dokheean Pakarr Pachharro. (The Lord has asked me to spread Dharam and vanquish tyrants and evil-minded individuals)   I could reference countless other tuk's from Gurbaani but i'm sure these two suffice.   Akali Baba Phoola Singh Ji was walking in the steps of the teachings of the Gurus; on a mission to eliminate the enemy; in this case being the British who tried ever so hard to eliminate our teachings by performing disgusting acts such as but not limited to: Creating the SGPC Spreading propaganda of the Khalsa Issuing 'shoot on-sight' orders to kill Singhs Spreading propaganda on our scriptures Sending in paid Sikhs to spread nonsence and create divisions Polluting the Khandeh Di Pahul maryada by introducing other cults to participate Removing the Nihang Singhs from the Akaal Bunga Sahib aka Akaal Takhat Sahib and therefore the whole Jathedaari system that has been in place since the time of the Gurus.

    • I know this topic has been addressed before (see here) but I was wondering if anyone has anymore knowledge to share about the 4 yugs. I was wondering how this would fit with modern day science. If anyone also has any videos or books on this subject, please share 🙃 Bhul Chuk Maaf 🙏

I feel like some people on this post are being really hard on you. You're in a really difficult situation and I feel like that can happen to anyone. I feel like the advice just do Paat or Gurbani and everything will work out isn't completely accurate advice. Gurbani will only change a person when they themselves want to change, or when it's written into their Destiny by Mahraaj themselves.  No one should tolerate rude and disrespectful behaviour. It's just not acceptable. It might be possible for you to set particular boundaries with your husband, especially since you have children too. But I think the best thing to do would be to honestly consult with yourself and see whether his behaviour is really something you are willing to put up with for the rest of your life.
