Sikh Family in Eastenders

Recommended Posts

So thier is Sikh Family in Eastenders  who are badly portrayed in very Indian  stereotypical manner. the father of the family is in Jail. the Eldest son has Dastar(kheerat)  the other 2 sons are mona's  . The daughter is a doctor who is bi-sexual and in relationship with a muslim girl. The mother is just pure evil who faked having cancer so her kids would not leave her.

The family run 3 business  which are

1) call centre

2)convient store

3)landlords renting houses

amongst this the youngest son is know for doing insurance jobs.

The latest scandal saw Jags go to jail as he was framed  (Robbery )insurance job  which went wrong  which was undertaken by the youngest son. jags was framed and reported to the police by his own mother as he was in love with a Muslim girl.

is too far fetched and does not portray  UK Sikhs Punjabis  in the right manner. BBC

I don't watch Eastenders.

But some of the characters do fit into the BBC white middle class playbook. Basically, these are the brown people for the white people.

Some of these type of characters have been shown on the BBC and Channel 4 since the 80's.

You have the gay and the taboo relationship with someone from a different religion/colour/culture.

I guess some of these goreh have "curry fever", lol

Sikhism is diverse,  dont expect real Gurmukhs on the show, because its a show,  entertainment.

I'm writing a comic atm about superhero who a sikh and grows into a Gurmukh

This is a win-win-win for the BBC.

Hits diversity quotas, another dice to roll to help ratings and they can now say the show is a better representation of east London.

What do you expect from this show?

It's low class drama. The British equivalent of those awful Star Plus programmes.

Apart from the bisexual part, everything listed can sadly be true in our community especially amongst those who own businesses.

If it represented the east end..there would be no white folks on the show... The signs would be Bengali and the queen Vic would be a gastro vegan pub or converted into a 'community welfare hub'

nah the pub would be a russki bar ...the local shops would be either polski, or turkish rather than gujrati and british of the 1980s, a Few years back I went for an urban art tour in the east end and the speaker totally skipped over the fact that gujrati , east african indians traded in the wholesalers on petticoat lane during the 60s and 1970s just jumped straight from Hugenots to bengalis ...sorry but you cannot erase Indian contributions to the East End too .

I remember watching the reruns back in the early 90s. The funny thing is that the bully ended up playing Mark in Eastenders.

you've got confused , the bully was a weasel faced guy  with a crew cut , 'mark' had a regular haircut in GH

Todd Carty was Mark in Eastenders  and susan Tully his sister

If Eastenders was authentic both Jkv and Dally would be on the show.

not sure 'bout Dally but it's in my birth neighbourhood , I would have been a cockney as I was within the sound of Bow Bells but I'm not fussed I talk 'posh' for  an eastender because I don't swallow my Ts ...these days southall and essex folks sound more cockney than east ender folk IRL.

    • It's a woman even if she returns and claims to be a male to discredit my judgement. It's a woman. Only a woman objects to a light being shone on the unflattering and rarely mentioned aspects of her sex's psychology and habits. When I've dragged Sikh males over the coals on this forum, not one guy ever objected to me doing so. Neither did any Sikh females interestingly enough. Nobody said, "But not all Sikh males are like that." You all quietly accepted my assessment of the situation. Your silence meant you agreed. As for Ajeet, I castigated him in the past for not having the courage to spurn marriage. He only got married to get his parents off his back. He's deceived a woman into a lifelong union that should never have happened. He tried arguing in the past that what he'll provide for his wife will be no less than what a hetero husband would do for her (and therefore, in his mind, that makes it morally acceptable), which he feels is difficult to refute, yet I believe had the girl known about his orientation there is NO way she would've agreed. She deserved to know.  Despite all this, he asked for advice, and I gave him my take on the situation. I gave him an unpleasant and stark take on his problem. I won't grind my gears and shower this place with empty platitudes that are useless and impractical. I told him what MIGHT happen based on a few variables in play. I didn't bother softening or sugar coating what he needed to hear.
    • this seems a spurious sakhi because Amar Das ji's mind was won over by the singing of gurbani by Bibi Amro ji , he had no NEED to test the Guru , he was totally overjoyed to finally find his Guru ji  ever read 1st pauri of Anand Sahib ?
    • what makes you think it is a lady , could be a clean hearted youth ? ... anyway it is unreasonable to assume that his(Ajeet's)  wife will cheat on him as she has much more to lose than him as she has a child , a home and the respect of his family name . Maybe he is still mentally troubled by his own kaamic thoughts and is projecting , best solution is to let her use her talents in a safe arena so she feels happy and heard  and he works on being close and loving as a family man . This allows him the monetary support he feels he needs and perhaps the lessening of his mental stress but only if he will be able to stop overthinking and imagining calamity at every turn . Remember this is the guys who was insisting on aborting his child because his wife had a fever .
    • Wonderful women. Nothing like the ones we decry, hence why some of us are able to discern the quality women in our lives versus the devious, one-dimensional trash trying to gaslight society into believing they possess any virtues whatsoever. Which category do you fall into?
