PANJ BANIA DA PAATH

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I'm new to this site and this is my first post. I recently got into Sikhi and for the last 4 months, I have been so into reading history and prayer as well. What I don't understand is different websites. Panj bani paath is what I don't understand. Are the five...3 in morning 1 evening 1 at night. Or is there 5 in the morning and then 1 in evening and 1 at night. 2 or 3 websites contradict each other. Which ones do we have to read. I'm so confused. Please don't laugh or judge me.

What are the 5 and when do you do them?

Some say 3 in morning and some say 5. Is 5 all in morning or are the 5 altogether in total throughout the day?

Is it:

Japji sahib, Jaap sahib, tav-prasad savaiye in morning and then rehras and kirtan sohila (are these the 5?)

Or is it:

Japji sahib, Jaap sahib, tav-prasad savaiye AND chaupai sahib and anand sahib in morning (are these the 5?) And then rehras and kirtan sohila in the evening time.

Thank you

It depends on what 5 Pyarey told you to do.

They told me 5 Banis in the morning, 1 in the evening and 1 before going to bed.

But then why does SGPC sikh rehat maryada say 3 are recited in the morning? Three banis are usually recited daily by all devoted Sikhs in the early morning as a part of their Nitnem (daily mediations). The banis are:-1.Japji sahib,2.Jaap sahib,3.Tav-prasad savaiye only.

This is why I'm confused. I always thought it was 5 in the morning. Why would sgpc sikh rehat maryada say 3 only is fine? I just want answers for closure so I can buy the transliteration and translation versions to study if I need to buy them.

Thank you both for the reply.

The Maryada of all the traditional Puratan Sampradiye is as follows:

In the Morning:

Japji Sahib

Jaap Sahib

Suaye

Full 40 pauris of Anand Sahib.

in the evening:

Sri Rehras Saib

Sri Sohila Sahib.

This is the bare minimum. Any other amount of Bani can be read. Mool Mantar and Waheguru Mantar are also a daily requirement. But as far as Nitnem Bani is stated, then the above is the absolute minimum.

This tradition has been passed down from Gursikh to Gursikh, ever since the time of Guru Ji. The traditional Sampradaiye Sikhs have not made any changes...

    • The most stupidist idiotic thing I heard. Disgusting.
    • Two wrongs together dont make a right. You will probably mislead her and make her rebel against her parents.
    • Just do EXACTLY as your parents say. When you grow up you will understand why they were right. if you dont listen to them now, you will likely spend your entire life regretting what u did.
    • Look at it this way - if we theoretically say yes one can take birth again as a Sikh, how will that affect their Simran now? Also if one takes birth again how will they remember that they are supposed to do Simran? What will stop them from asking this question again? http://sttm.co/s/48/524 ਭਈ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਦੇਹੁਰੀਆ ॥ bhiee paraapat maanukh dhehureeaa || This human body has been given to you. gobi(n)dh milan kee ieh teree bareeaa || This is your chance to meet the Lord of the Universe. avar kaaj terai kitai na kaam || Nothing else will work. mil saadhasa(n)gat bhaj keval naam ||1|| Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; vibrate and meditate on the Jewel of the Naam. sara(n)jaam laag bhavajal taran kai || Make every effort to cross over this terrifying world-ocean. janam birathaa jaat ra(n)g maiaa kai ||1|| rahaau || You are squandering this life uselessly in the love of Maya. jap tap sa(n)jam dharam na kamaiaa || I have not practiced meditation, self-discipline, self-restraint or righteous living. sevaa saadh na jaaniaa har raiaa || I have not served the Holy; I have not acknowledged the Lord, my King. kahu naanak ham neech kara(n)maa || Says Nanak, my actions are contemptible! saran pare kee raakhahu saramaa ||2||4|| O Lord, I seek Your Sanctuary; please, preserve my honor! ||2||4||
