WJKK WJKF. Does any use Chandigarh Airport as oppose to Amritsar? Having used Turkmenistan airlines for 8 years which lands at Amritsar, I feel it's time for a change. Turkmenistan service and on flight entertainment is below average for what you pay. The whole experience is bog standard. Done some research and I noticed Virgin goes to dehli and u can get an internal fight to chandigarh 2hours after landing. What route do you take anyone used Qatar that goes to Amritsar? Anyone use Chandigarh?

I always fly Qatar Airways to Delhi and then take the fast train to Jalandhar (4-5 hours) and travel in first class comfort....very cheaply.

A number of reasons for this:

  1. Flying Delhi is about £100 + cheaper than flying to Amritsar
  2. Flying to Delhi is safer than flying to Amritsar because Amritsar truly does not have the safety mechanisms in place to prevent things such as debris on the runway and landing lights for fog etc.
  3. Flying Qatar Airways is safer because their fleet of aircraft are the newest fleet and thus statisticaly less like to develop major faults.
  4. The stopover in Qatar is only an hour or so.

Chandigarh airport is not as good nor big as compared to amritsar one. There are no international flights coming to chandigarh airport.

Qatar is good choice but i dont take it because of stopover of over 10hrs.

What you can do is take flight to delhi and then from same airport, you ttake domestic flight to amritsar. You have to book flights together otherwise they wont let you take more than 1 piece of bag or pay extra bag charges.

I have no problem with Amritsar airport facilities are good, its made progress vastly over the years. The reason why not many international flights go there is because airlines make their profits from business class and first class customers. Punjabis just want economy, I'm the same. This why Turkmenistan has done so Well. Fill a 1980s plane up at £500+. You only see bout 3 people on business class. Last time I went there was sukshinder shinda and some fat business man. I'm surprised Chandigarh Airport has not picked up as it's the business capital of punjab.

Agree with jagsaw and isingh regarding qatar. However I wouldn't wanna get on 4 hr train after landing in dehli. Id rather go straight to Amritsar it gets there 315am so have the whole day there. Not bothered if it £100 cheaper to go Delhi.there is a misconception that qatar stops at dhoha for 10 hrs. It does but can chose there's options of 1.5 hr, 2 hrs stop or 10 hr plus

The only reason for the price difference is extra Airport taxes put on Amritsar , that is according to the airline companies I talked to , so understand this and go direct to Amritsar support its development , most people who go to Dehli end up in Punjab if we supported Amritsar then more airlines would compete to go there and that will mean price drops.
