  1. PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL YOUR SIKH CONTACTS TO CONTINUE RAISING AWARENESS Press Release and Sangat Update 5 May 2011 www.SatkaarCampaign.blogspot.com Request for Worldwide Sangat to increase Bani/Simran for Chardikala of Khalsa Panth Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! With Guru Ji's blessings, as evidenced by the Hukumnaamas Guru Ji gave on the day, the Satkaar Campaign was initiated by the UK Sangat on 16 October 2011 at Grays Gurdwara. Whilst Guru Ji is forever benevolent to His Sikhs, it is up to us, each and every Sikh, to value His blessings and to uphold the principles of Gurmat that Guru Ji has given us. Guru Ji has blessed the Khalsa Panth with Fateh (victory) in certain morchas relating to the Satkaar Campaign, though there is a long way to go so that we Sikhs promote and maintain Satkaar (respect) for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj, the living embodiment and soul of the Sikh Gurus, and to stop Beadbi (sacrilege) occurring. In this regard, we are now seeing certain Gurdwara committees going to extreme lengths to justify their stance of permitting meat, alcohol, tobacco and parties on Gurdwara owned/funded premises. The UK Sangat knew that they would face certain stubborn committees, though even the Satkaar Campaign's Sevadaars are shocked and hurt at the lengths that these committees are going to. It is not appropriate to do so at this stage, though the Satkaar Campaign will provide further details to the UK Sangat of this in due course. Given the nature of this issue and the need for the Panth to remain even more united to collectively resolve these issues, we have one humble Benti (appeal and request) to make to the worldwide Sangat: we request the Sangat to increase our Bani/Simran abhiyaas for the Chardikala of the Khalsa Panth, and more specifically, for the Panth's Fateh in respect of the Ardaas done by the UK Sangat at Grays Gurdwara for the implementation of the 2006 Sandesh in all UK Gurdwaras. There is no minimum or maximum, as every second of Ardaas, Abhiyaas and Bhagti will count with Guru Ji's blessings, but we humbly request each Sangat member to do 5 Chaupai Sahib Paaths a day. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

  4. There is nothing alarming about that.. Those who are doing it are not aware of sikhi and it is not their fault.. Religious wise, they are very wrong as per sikh code of conduct and so are those who drink and do other manmat things more frequently than doing inter-religious marriage in our society.. Nothing new as such stuff happened in past, going on right now and will continue to happen in future.. Also, Not all hindus are bad.. there are *many* hindus who gives mad respect to sikhs..

  6. Sangat Ji I see that some Gurdwaras, not all have a glass box with a deva in it and is lit all the time. Is that to show that Guru Granth Sahib Ji is the living Jot. What is the meaning behind it and the history of it.

  7. Interesting to read some old European observations about Sikh horses. Here is a contemporary picture of Maharajah Ranjit Singh's famous horse Laila, maybe someone can identify the breed?

  9. Guru Ji used to have horses bought over from Persia, so more than likely arabi, Akhal-Teke, turkoman inspired the breeds used by the Sikhs. Old european paintings of the court of Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji show horses of arabi appearance. The Budha Dal used to have 80 mares at Raqba at one time for breeding and still have some puratan nasal horses from the famed lineage of Mundra, Raju Baba aka Karamati etc etc. These lines have good size (16hh+)and ears smaller than the marwari etc. If you ever chat with old Nihangs like Baba Maghar Singh then he can give you lots of information on this great bloodline. Sadly one of the stallions from this great puratan line was in very poor shape last I heard. The Bidhi Chand have a stallion in their fauj named Sawai which no one rides as he is reserved for Guru Ji, he is a bit old now but also a fantastic looking horse with good height and some say he has arabi type looks. It is important that these bloodlines are preserved and hopefully horse lovers in Punjab will come together to do this before it is to late. There are also other bloodlines in Punjab (usually these distinct bloodlines are ignored as the Marwari's from rajasthan get promoted as some sort of super war horse, reality is that the rajasthani horses are nothing when lined next to the punjabi bloodlines). There is also the famous Chuner Wala Ghora who has good height and some of his offspring are amongst the most highly sort after horses in India. Due to the craze for the Nukra (so called Albino) horses across Punjab we have lost some of our traditional colours due to breeding but you can gauge the size etc of Punjabi horses from good Nukras. They will have better height and be heavier than the rajasthani marwari etc.

  10. On a more lighter note to the doom and gloom at the moment. Does anyone remember a game we used to play when we were kids, we used to call it PITTHU but may have had other names? You spent half the day carving round discs out of stones, each disc smaller then the next to make a small pyramid. You split into two teams. One team (batting) would take turns from a distance to knock the pyranid over with a tennis ball. The other team fielded. One of the fielders caught the ball and threw it back to the batters. After two throws the next batter would try to knock the pyramid over. Once the pyramid was knocked over the batting team scattered as the fielders now recovered the tennis ball and their objective was to now hit a member of the batting team with the tennis ball below the ankles, and it was the objective of the batters to rebuild the pyramid without getting hit by the ball below the ankles. If they succeedded then they would shout "Pitthu" and the batters would all bat again, if the fielders managed to hit any of the batters below the ankle then it was their turn to bat. Very energetic and great fun

Also the guy you have mnentioned must be a joru kaa ghulam .Hindu and muslim men never allow their kids to be raised against their faith then why sikh men are allowing it? If we have sikh men who cannot stand against their own wives then we have no future

  12. There are many horses at Sri Hazur Sahib which have been gifted by devotees for Guru Ji. The horse that has the gaddi currently is Anmol (photo posted above), he has no link to Guru Ji's horse. He was sired by a Sindhi stallion that was with someone near Jodhpur but is now in poor condition in Punjab. I do not have much time now but will post more information on Sikh horses later today,

  13. There's something a bit odd about celebrating someone's death but in this guys case I think we can all agree he got what was coming to him. We need to break down the stereotypes people around the world have when seeing us. This can only be done by going out and being seen.

  15. I hope that YPS will offer full public apology in a day if not in hours. YPS is considered to be one of the top schools in Punjab and i am sure that they don't want a bad image. Such things are very common in Punjab, and they are even worse if compared to what happens to us in states or in other countries. Most cases go unreported, and in many cases the kids/parents don't want to get into the trouble of reporting the cases, call it ignorance, cowardly attitude or plain laziness. Principal should be fired and no sikh owned/run institution/government should give him any job for holding such beliefs. The main problem in Punjab is that there are not enough amritdhari sikhs. There is an imbalance ratio between amritdhari and non-amritdhari sikhs in punjab.. probably more than 95% of sikhs in punjab non-amritdhari.

  16. Take it slow. One of the things that has drawn me towards this religion is that being a good Sikh NEVER contradicts being a good person. So try to be a good person, and when you feel down and struggle or are really disappointed in yourself, look to Gurbani and it will help you pick yourself up and try again. There are some really good Singhs on this site, and they are always wiling to help. I think going to Gurdwara is really important as well(at least for me), but just realize that its just like any other church/mosque/etc. in that sikhs are still human and some are good and some are bad... and it is a predominately punjabi religion and you may at times feel unwelcome... but take it with a grain of salt. Many amritdhari guys take flack every time they step out of gurdwara, its really a small thing for us to take a little every now and then... early sikh converts faced much much much much worse. Goodluck!

  18. I say yes to AV... alot of the no campaign is based on scare-mongering... about extremists getting in etc... AV makes it harder!!! This thread discusses it in depth, Ive countered every no arguement... as a sikh community it is beneficial we vote Yes, people will have to work harder for our votes and AV will ensure there are no safe seats anymore... surely the southall issue of Labour and Sharma will emphasis this to people! Loook at the stats, get read up on it! AV is better for us!

  19. Sometime we find some of us quoting sikhism in general to further their narrow view. Sikh teachings do not endorse hate towards any community. Guru Gobind singh has stressed upon equality of human beings irrespective of race, religion or gender. Someone is Hindu and someone a Muslim, then someone is Shia, and someone a Sunni, but all the human beings, as a species, are recognized as one and the same. Karta (The Creator) and Karim (Merciful) is the same Lord, Razak (The Sustainer) and Rahim (Compassionate) is the same Lord, there is no other second, therefore consider this verbal distinguishing feature of Hindusim and Islam as an error and an illusion. Thus worship the ONE LORD, who is the common enlightener of all; all have been created in His Image and amongst all comprehend the same ONE LIGHT. 15.85. The temple and the mosque are the same, there is no difference between a Hindu worship and Muslim prayer; all the human beings are the same, but the illusion is of various types. dasam granth sahib

  22. Think about those pyaray singhs who did not even dare to look at a female in that way because they are all sisters until anand karaj. Maybe youve heard this before.... A women whom people thought to be very attractive once said to a Singh that she found him attractive. The singh replied, " Which part of me do you find attractive, so I may chop it off?" .........THAT is what you call Guru Day SIngh. You are in this world for a limited time veeray, please do not let false beauty, false bliss of falling in love with someone else take you away for your main purpose here. I will not say stay away so that your thought diminish, because you should not run away from kaljug like this. You have to overcome and fight it. We are constantly in Jug with punj chorr every second of our life.

  24. I am highly disappointed at Canadian elections results last night not because conservatives won but conservatives won majority..problem with winning majorities of any party is full control...which is scary thought itself as opposition will not be able to vote against and knock out any controversial bills majority government will put forward, they can voice their opinions but cannot knock the bills passing as they are in minorities ....there is no party which could held majority accountable..they can pass any bills they want....oversee bodies can only create reports and create awareness.. that too is in jeopardy as majority govt will try to replace auditor general with their own lapdog. Only Vahiguroo can help this country now and immigrants living in it.

  27. If you have concerns rather then air it first on a forum you should have first contacted the school and cleared up your concerns. The last thing we want is some hot-head phoning the school and causing trouble. The best way is to email the shcool in a very polite manner. From the webpages it looks like they were doing something is a very respectful way and most likely would have taken advice before they undertook this project.

  28. First of all, i don't know whole story behind this incident so i will not comment on it whether if its right or wrong. But one thing i do know it's highly foolish to put an youtube video of this kind without putting any description on it or put whole story behind this incident... seriously what the guys were thinking who put the video up? Obviously, they need to think outside the box. They need to see youtube video of this kind from foreigner/ non sikh eyes and all you see is - bunch violent group of singhs beating one person..cowardice..here i stated their view/thought...they have no problem rushing to that judgement because this what they see and there is nothing to read upon it to educate themselves and you cannot blame them for that perception. We live in a world were whole world is watching us because we are minority regardless whichever country you look at, and majority will try their best to control the minorities by twisting video such as this, this provides more than enough fuel they need to use it against us.

  35. As much as it'd be easier to call them anti-Sikh, i am confident they are confused. It's easier to label them as anti-Sikh rather than try to sit with them and discuss why Sri Dasam Granth Sahib is written by Guru Gobind Singh Ji and why we must respect it to the highest extent. What a khajana it is given to us. If we continue to label it will turn into a cycle and nothing will be solved, and that's the bitter fact. Keep the discussions based off of fact and gurbani and they won't be able to argue, they will have to agree and automatically they will want to take maafi from the Khalsa panth from the depths of their hearts/with true love. edit- It seems the videos have been removed, I think i've seen them. Is it the one where jeonwala debates the two Panthic Singhs?

Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fathe I agree, that this guy is an <banned word filter activated>, and deserves to be punished at that, but even if he is there is no reason, and i mean NO reason to kill someone. And it's just as bad to support the would-be killer. Burning Guru Granth Sahib Ji, calling yourself a reincarnation and making your own stuff to be in competition with GGS is wrong, but thats not for us to decide what action should be taken. When it all comes down to it, you just have to ask yourself one thing. "What would Guru Ji think of me?" Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ki Ki Fathe

  41. Jab Lag Khalsa Rahe Niaara || Tab Lag Tej Dheeyo Meh Saara || Have faith that when the Panth comes to fully recognizing and drilling this pure Mukhvaak of Kalgeedhar Guru Gobind Singh Ji they will immediately come to abide in Chardi Kala. One should contemplate over every word in this Mukhvaak, it is not so hard to understand. If the Khalsa stays distinct then Guru Kalgeedhar says 'Mai Poora Saaraa Tej Bakhshaa gaa, Devaa(n)gaa', meaning I will give the Khalsa my complete blessings (and power). The Khalsa is a distinct nation, its birth was most distinct, the lifestyle of a Khalsa is distinct, the food and clothes the Khalsa wears is distinct and the love the Khalsa has for the almighty is most distinct. Don't Become a Adopted Son of a Bahmin, Come Home to you real Father (Satguru Jee) & His Hukams, Pakhand was destroyed by Saache Paatshaaha. These rituals have being put into Sikhee by Anti-Panth forces, we should awaken. Guru Sahib jee, Mahapursh, Akaal Takht Sahib are against this practice full stop. But most of all OUR GURU SAHIBAAN ARE AGAINST IT .

  42. Your post was intended to create differences between dals and taksals ... are you a missionary ? Anyways it was a Failed attempt to do so. Their is a nirgun and sargun sroop of akal purkh ... And arti speaks of both of the sroops ... Guru Granth sahib has not one but many tuuks sloks and shabads on aarti... Bhagat Ravidas says naam is only aarti of god does that means aarti guru nanak dev ji wrote is wrong? Bhagat danas aarti is further different... Guru Nanak dev ji wrote aarti about the nirgun sroop of akal purkh which is every where in the universe. Bhagat Ravidas wrote aarti about sroop of akalpurkh inside us. Rest all the bhagats wrote aarti about sargun sroop of akalpurkh that is Guru Granth Sahib. Read full aarti Shabad by Shabad and you will understand. I am not promoting any jathas mareyada. But if 2 takths dals nirmale akharas etc dont come under sikhs then this article as well as its title is correct else its not ... more over if a certain part of sikhs follows this mareyada they should have something to back this up ... Instead of writing articles of various issues in panth and calling your point of view as "sikh point of view". Till we force our mareyada over others our "sikh panth" will not be able to solve any problem. Be it today be it 2110 AD or 2210 AD

  47. Found this good article clearing up many misconceptions. sikhanswers.com http://www.sikhanswe...-view-on-aarti/ From Sanskrit Aarti, meaning the light or the vessel containing it which is waved before an idol, generally in the clockwise direction, accompanied by the chanting of mantras. This is also the name given the ceremony, which for the Hindus is a mode of ritual worship to propitiate the deity. In the Sikh system, which totally rejects image-worship, there is no permission for this form of worship. Guru Nanak Dev Ji at Jagannath Puri Mandir.According to the Janam Sakhis, Guru Nanak Dev Ji accompanied by Bhai Mardana Ji, stopped near the temple of Jagannath, which is dedicated to Hindu god Vishnu. Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Bhai Mardana Ji stopped near the shrine upon which sat centuries of history mute and immobilized. The notes from Bhai Mardana's Rabaab (rebeck) touched the devotees' hearts with fresh fervor. Several of them came to hear the Guru's word. The temple priests felt angry and held the Guru Ji guilty for not making adoration to the deity within the sacred enclosure. The local chief whose name has been described, as Krishan Lal one day visited the Guru and invited him to join the aarti, or the evening service of lights, in the temple. The Guru readily offered to go with him. As dusk fell, the priests lighted the lamps and sumptuous ritual for which the devotees had been waiting began. Twinkling lights fed by ghee were placed on a jewel studded salver, amid flowers and incense, and worshipfully swung from side to side by the priest in front of the enshrined image to the accompaniment of the chanting of hymns, blowing of conches and the ringing of bells. The priests had a complaint as they concluded. The Guru had remained seated in his place and not participated in the ceremony. The Guru burst into a divine song: The sky is the salver And the sun and the moon the lamps. The luminous stars on the heavens are the pearls. Scented air from the sandal-clad hills is the incense, The winds make the fan for Thee, And the vast forests wreath of flowers. The unstruck music of creation is the trumpet. Thus goes on the Arati (adoration) for Thee, O' Thou dispeller of doubt and fear! Guru Nanak Dev Ji taught the listeners, how Nature's tribute to the Creator was superior to any ritualistic oblation offered before images. Aarti in Sikhi Every evening in all Gurudwaras, after the recitation of Rehraas Sahib, the Keertan (singing) of Aarti through Gurbani shabads is performed by Raagis (musicians). This is a tremendously soothing experience, capable of taking us directly into the spiritual realms of devotion through music. Bhai Gurdaas Ji writes: ਸੋਦਰੁ ਆਰਤੀ ਗਾਵੀਐ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਵੇਲੇ ਜਾਪੁ ਉਚਾਰਾ|| "Sodar (Rehraas) and Aarti were sung (in the evening) and in Amrit-veal (the ambrosial hours) Japji (Sahib) was recited." Once actor Balraj Sahni asked the late Nobel Laureate Rabindra Nath Tagore, "You have written the national anthem for India. Can you write an international anthem for the whole world?" "It has already been written, not only international but for the entire universe, in the 16th century by Nanak," replied Tagore. He referred to the Sikh aarti (ceremony of light). Tagore was so enamoured of this universal aarti that he personally translated it into Bengali. Sanaatan (Hindu) practices infiltrating Sikhi In the mid-18th century when the Khalsa had to live in the jungles because they had a price on their head, Nirmala and Udaasi Mahants (caretakers) took care of the Gurdwaras. During this period the Nirmala and Udaasis came under the influence of Hinduism and introduced Hindu practices to Sikh institutions. Over time the Mahants became more powerful and although the Sikh Gurdwaras were freed from the clutches of the corrupt Mahands in the turn of the 20th century through the Singh Sabha and Gurdwara Reform Movements. Although the Gurdwaras were freed and Sikh Maryada (Code of Conduct) was re-introduced to Sikh institutions, some Sikh institutions in India that were outside of the Panjab or in the hands of certain Nihangs or Sants continued practising some Hindu rituals. One of the rituals is "performing" Aarti. Singing the Keertan of Aarti is a Sikh practise, however performing Aarti by waving a platter with oil lamps and flowers whilst ringing bells is a Hindu practise. *Admin Note: video removed* [/center] Aarti and Sikh Maryada The Panthic Sikh Rehit Maryada, the official Sikh Code of Conduct, states: Anything except the afore-mentioned reverential ceremonies, for instance, such practices as the Aarti (waving of a platter with burning lamps and incense set in it in vertical circular motion) with burning incense and lamps, offerings of eatables to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, burning of lights, beating of gongs, etc., is contrary to Gurmat (the Guru's way). However, for the perfuming of the place, the use of flowers, incense and scent is not barred. For light inside the room, oil or butter-oil lamps, candles, electric lamps, kerosene oil lamps, etc., may he lighted. In the same spirit, Sant Gurbachan Singh Bhindranwale, a Gurbani scholar and saint, clearly explains what Aarti means in the Sikh religion in 'Gurbaani Paath Darpan'. In chapter of Akhand Paath maryada, page 168, Sant Ji writes: "Do Aarti, don't light lamps, only read Shabads of Aarti and Do Kirtan, then distribute Karah Parshad and have open Langar." On page 135, Sant Ji writes: ਹਰ ਪਾਠ ਦੇ ਭੋਗ ਪੈਣ ਤੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਤੇ ਆਰਤੀ ੳਚਾਰੇ( ਬਿਨਾਂ ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਵਾਰ ਦਾ) (ਨੋਟ- ਆਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੀ ੳਚਾਰਨੇ, ਦੀਵੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਾਲਣੇ) "At bhog of every Paath, do Kirtan and sing Aarti (except first path of an individual's death" (Note- Only Sing Shabads of Aarti, don't light lamps) Under title of Aarti, Santji wrote complete Maryada of Aarti and in the end he writes- ਆਰਤੀ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਬੈਠ ਕੇ ਪੜਨੇ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਕਰਨਾ ਹੀ ਯੋਗ ਹੈ। "It is best to sit and sing Shabads of Aarti. Doing Aarti with lighted lamps in plates has been rejected by Satguru Ji." So going by Gurmat and Gurbani, only the sitting and singing of Aarti in Keertan form without lighting lamps is permissible, as lighting of lamps like the Hindus did at Mandir in Jagannath is contrary to teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
