  3. No one knows and no one cares. Why should they? He is 'well' and alive. No one's bothered about him rotting in jail like the other several Singhs wrongly jailed. And then there are other shameless people who keep trying to prove him as a GOI agent. Honestly, had the hanging not been stopped...he would have become Shaheed and not once again forgotten by us all. A very sad state of affairs, indeed! Guru Maharaaj AAP Panth nu sehd bakhshan.

  4. there are different alcohols. The one people use to get drunk is ethanol. There is methanol, which can kill and blind you. Then it''s ethanol. Then propanol, butanol, pentanol, hexanol, heptanol, octanol, etc. In organic chemistry, any compound with a oxygen and hydrogen functional group to it, is referred to as an alcohol.

  6. Ok so I just had this idea earlier this week. There was some video on YouTube a couple of months ago called Sikh Think Tank, and most people seemed to be uncles (no offense lol). I am just wondering if we could have some sort of a think tank right here on Sikhsangat? We have enough people who can contribute and brainstorm solutions to several issues Sikhs are facing. The plus point is that they are from different parts of the world. Bijla Singh (requesting historical and political perspectives) N30S1NGH (requesting spiritual Gurmat perspectives) Consciousness (requesting spiritual Gurmat perspectives) proactive (requesting historical and political perspectives) There must be several others also who I am probably forgetting. We usually don't agree on many things, which is another good thing as it opens more scopes for further brainstorming. Initially I was thinking if we could have a new section where only few people could have access and post, but then that fails the entire idea of a free forum, so we can do it in the form of normal threads. I am just thinking of ways as to how we could make this forum more constructive in terms of Panthic matters. I am sure there are people who know people, so once there is an agreement on a particular solution to a particular problem, we can then create an online petition and circulate it on Facebook, Twitter and other Sikh forums to get more approvals and then send it to whoever concerned in order to form a collective Panthic voice. The only condition is that the discussion is constructive, and so is the criticism. If you need to highlight a flaw, just highlight the flaw without resorting to getting personal. Yes, this will have to be where one would need to re-read his/her messages a few times before hitting "Post". I am looking for people who are mature enough to discuss. The 4 Gurmukhs I have listed are regular and active posters and I expect wise words from them each time I read their post. I am sure there are others as well, please do come forward as we need more opinions and viewpoints. S1ngh, Balait, do we need a separate section for this? You guys are the tech kings, please see if that could be done, or lets see how the Sangat responds and if needed we can have a separate section once we see that the response is good. So what do you all think? Please send your comments/suggestions and we can start with one issue as one new thread and start off.

  7. Waheguru! Bhaji, Dasam Bani smashed it! :tongue2: To be fairly honest...the questions the OP has asked are quite legitimate to an extent. Me and my Singh have been discussing about the theories about preservation of s*xual energy for spiritual progress. Baba Waryam Singh ji mentions about it in his Katha as well. Yoga suggests it too. So, my Singh decided to ask Baba Hari Singh Randhawe wale (they're good friends). And Baba ji said almost exactly what NeoSingh Bhaji has been explaining in a few recent posts; i.e. if one doesn't want to indulge in all of this...grihasti jeevan is not for them and they shouldn't be in it in the first place....and one-sided decisions for becoming 'bihangam' only makes matters worse. And thus, we came across this Guru-waak. Also, being a mother and a wife does make such things clearer. Had I come across the question when I was unmarried...I'd have thought the OP has gone bonkers!!! :drop:

  8. Normally i give topics like these a wide berth, but I feel sharing some thoughts today isn't a bad idea. Let me start by saying I don't believe Sikhs are part of what has come to be known as 'Hinduism' today. So if Niddar is of this opinion, I don't share it with him. That being said, I DO think that Niddar has (perhaps inadvertently?) highlighted some important things that many Sikhs seem to prefer to cowardly avoid facing. Regulars here know that I am quite interested in Sikh historiography and the effects of colonialism on Sikhs/Sikh thought, I've posted a few pieces/translations on this in the past. In this context what Niddar does (again perhaps unintentionally?) is to highlight the big difference in Sikh worldview prior to and after the infamous 'annexation' of the Panjab by the British. Anyone even remotely interested in the truth who has done a bit of research would be able to see that prior to annexation the Sikh worldview/cosmology (whatever you want to call it) appears to be more than a little different to that considered the 'orthodox' view today (represented by the Singh Sabha worldview - by this I mean the social reform movement not todays networks of Gurdwaray with the same name). It doesn't take a genius to trace the (admittedly subtle) influence of what we can call 'western enlightenment' type thought as well as protestant Christian on subsequent interpretations of Sikhi. My point is that prior to this respected Sikhs themselves seemed prone to interpret things with a more 'Indic' framework. You can clearly see this in all traditional Sikh works like Bhangu's Panth Prakash, Kavi Santokh's Suraj Granth etc. I sometimes perceive the situation with a pendulum analogy, where colonialism may have swung the pendulum to a western/protestant influenced high, and Niddar types are acting in a reactionary way to this and swinging the pendulum to the other 'Indic' extreme. As with most things, the real truth probably belongs somewhere in the middle of the two respective perspectives. I feel Sikhs acting like we have absolutely no connections to the beliefs which existed in Panjab prior to Sikhi are as guilty of misrepresentation as those who claim we are Hindus. What is most sad is that apnay can't see the clear opportunity for debate and learning in all this and turn Niddar (who has his faults) into some pantomime villain. If any apnay 'lose faith' over issues like this, I'd say they were pretty unintelligent or weak minded in the first place.

  9. Based on new initiative- Sikhsangat think tank- http://www.sikhsanga...gat-think-tank/ , I am opening up this thread to have constructive discussion on this topic- Revamp/tweak standard sikhi parchar to those who are new to sikhi..!! I personally been two camps in toronto when i first got into sikhi. They both have strength and weakness. Whilst, they have lot to discuss on sikh political activism, unfortunately they were out of depth when it comes to sikhi spirituality and they fail to provide basic framework to connect everyone- especially youths who are new to sikhi (mona/keshadhari alike). Here are some of the weakness in parchar in sikhi camp/gurdwara's these days: - Fail to connect to wider sikh youths because may be going too over board providing guilt trips/political activism/sipahi aspect of sikhi. - Fail to provide basic layout frame work for sikh foundation- Ikgonkar (Sargun and Nirgun intertwine relationship) instead focusing protestant version of God and focusing entirely on maryada instead of striking a right balance - Fail to provide youths who are new to sikhi, something they can relate to their own personal (beautiful sikhi perception of body/mind/soul/consciousness/creation/relation), most of youths have already heard concept of protestant version of God in western countries/ or if they happen to go to catholic high school. Overall problem with Sikhi parchar failing to highlight/promote sikh spirituality leading youths to explore elsewhere- radhaswamis/nirankaris/christianity/islam- http://www.sikhsanga..._10#entry541621 Solutions/more improvements. - Instead of going over board providing guilt trips, just provide beautiful concept of keeping hair in relation to nature, science, distinctive feature and our history of great predecessors shahids/mahapursh/saints and leave it that- i m not suggesting downplay it but at the same time don't let topic surrounding maryada takes precedence over everything, whole camp experience, and move on crucial topics which they can relate to such as mind, body, soul, consciousness, sargun and nirgun. http://www.sikhsanga...on-amritdharis/ - Start Sikhi theological/spiritual foundation with mool mantar (and for sake of unity and more bani- keep it from ikongkar to nanak hosi bhi sach), explain the deep theology behind it- sargun and nirgun intertwin relationship. http://www.sikhsanga..._10#entry544841 http://www.sikhsanga...irgun-nirankar/ - Explain concept of body, mind, soul, control of senses, which every youth can relate to. Lot of youths confuse soul with mind: http://www.sikhsanga...ns-of-the-mind/ - In five day camp, put three day emphasis on spirituality in mixture with rehit maryada and 2 days on political activism. I think looking at sikhi camp states- correct ratio should be (65% spirituality - 35% political activism). Pure Raw anything is not good nor is easy to digest for human. Mix it just like how patsah were mixed in khanda batta da amrit..!! :D What you guys think?

  10. what you mean like this or like this (ordinary run of the mill akj fanatic ???) or maybe this one abotu Sant Jarnail Singh where he calls him a militant maybe you were referring to nidars fanatical hatred of Gurmukh AKJ singhs doing gurbani kirtan... or maybe like this nah this is probably what cisco singh means by "intelligently disprove" someone so Shaheed Bhai Fauja singh is a "fanatic militant" because he saved a Hindu woman from being molested by the police and he tried to bring people who had done beyadbee of Guru Granth Sahbi Ji to justice ??? I am sorry, but I am with Fauja Singh on this one... Nidars students love to go around playing the discrimination and hater card on everyone - have you ever read their own website. They don't like it when their Gurdev is talked about in a derogatory way. He has over the past ten years ridiculed, insulted us and the shaheeed singhs that we respect and love and who gave their lives for sikhi. They can not be here to defend their honour and name, but we are here and we are ready to insult nidar back consistently, we are not doing anything that nidar has not already done. so look in the mirror before you throw a stone.....

  11. basically the letter is not a fake - I have confirmed with Baba Joginder Singh when he was in the UK few weeks ago, Giani Kirpal Singh of Stratford Road Gurdwara Sparkhill (a chardi klaa HariaVela Nihang) phoned Baba Nihal Singh ji and he confirmed that he signed the letter and added that he was disappointed that the letter wasn't issued earlier. Mohan Singh of the Sikh Awareness Society also phoned Baba Harnam Singh Of Damdami Taksal and Sant Samaaj and he confirmed that yes I did sign this letter, which just leaves two we have left to confirm. In light of the above mentioned letter and publicity of nefarious teachings on his website, Last Monday 29th October Nidar's Classes at Somerset Road Gurdwara were immediately cancelled by the Gurdwara Committee. Nidar threw a hissy fit and refused to leave, he tried to bully the Committee, but they were old school Solid Babey who were not afraid and went into his class and informed everyone that this is the last class that will take place, please do not return for the class last week. Nidar Singh in defiance said that he would defy the committees wishes and return with 30 of his students to force his way into the Gurdwara and hold his class, the Old School Babey said "if you going to come then you better be ready for us" I commend the Somerset Road Gurdwara committee as they did not know anything about this Nidar Singh and as soon as they found out they took action. So to support the Gurdwara comittee a group of like minded Peaceful Sikhs will be convening on Somerset Road Gurdwara on Monday 5th November at 7pm to show our support for the Gurdwara and make sure that the Gurdwara Comittee are not bullied or pushed around for doing their duty as Gurdwara Sevadars and protecting the sangat. We are requesting all the sangat to turn up to the Gurdwara and let us show our support to the Gurdwara and in peaceful manner protest against the snatan Hindu-Sikh cult which is insulting to both Sikhs and Hindus. If he does come he will be trespassing and will be dealt with. The sangat not allow Nidar into our Gurdwaras. If Nidar does turn up he will be politely and peacefully removed. Gur Bar akaaal! Sat Sree Akaal

  15. I have really, really, really, really REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY thick hair as well, if not way more think than yours. It's important to comb your hair at the very least once (preferably twice) a day. What you should do is use a wooden comb that is sturdy and slightly bigger than they usually are and bend over and then let your hair down and keep on combing it until it's very smooth and no "gunjullaan" are left. At this point you can apply some oil. What I do is make a joora by twisting it and it never comes loose and doesn't hurt at all and then put the kanga right under my hair in the back. If I don't comb my hair properly my hair comes out and it hurts when I make my jhoora because my hair is unevenly being pulled, this doesn't happen if the hair is properly combed.

  16. With the exception of Iran and Ethiopia, pretty much every nation on earth has at some point been invaded by a foreign power, annexed, ruled by a foreign power etc. Like we discussed in the last message, you want the UN to dismantle every nation on earth (except India). So your still selling us that same dead horse hsisingh. You're still desperately trying to find justification for dismissing the idea of freedom. You don't care what the reason is....you just need a reason. Things have gotten desperate. You're now using the excuse of being invaded by foreign powers whilst simultaneously praising the existence of the one nation on earth that has perhaps been invaded the most, annexed the most and seen the least peace : Your beloved India. Please carry on hsisingh. In your last 3 posts you have, unwittingly, given us reason after reason as to why India should not exist. :biggrin2:

  18. So let's start with you list of countries: Austria - annexed by Germany in 1939. Belerus - invaded by Russia after the 2nd World War and bought into the Soviet Union - now an authoritarian dictatorship beholden to its neighbour: Russia Czech Republic - invaded by Hitler in 1939; invaded by Russia after the Second World War. Split in too in the ealry 1990s Hungary - invaded by Russia after the Second World War. Part of EU, but an increasingly authoritarian government Liechtenstien - doesn't count - is basically the size of a small city and run by a king - no resources at all, so dependent on being a tax haven Luxembourg - doesn't count - is basically the size of a city and has no resources at all, so dependent on being a tax haven Macedonia - invaded by Russia after the Second World War. absorbed into Yugoslavia and then Split off in the early 1990s. Not at peace with its neighbours Switzerland - highly educated and advanced society (not like the Punjab); offshore tax haven for the rich, surrounded by stable EU countries (France, Germany, Italy) ..so tell me again, how being a landlocked country is easy and stable???

In essence, everyone has scandals/deep secrets/effected by panj chor (unless bhramgyani), its just some comes apparent than others( ones which are shoved/hidden under the carpet from others to see). 22. 1984 Sikh "Genocide" Petition Tabled in Australian Parliament An Australian lawmaker has tabled in Parliament a petition seeking that the horrific violence that took place in November 1984 in India following the assassination of prime minister Indira Gandhi be recognised as genocide against the Sikh community. At least 3,000 Sikhs were killed in three days in the Indian capital New Delhi following the killing of Indira Gandhi on Oct 31, 1984 by her Sikh bodyguards. Warren Enstch, the chief opposition whip for the Liberal Party, Thursday tabled the 1984 Sikh "genocide" petition before the House of Representatives. A number of Sikhs were present in the parliament galleries when Enstch read the petition, said a press release from the Supreme Council of Australia. "It is important to note that today, Nov 1, is 28 years to the day that these attacks took place," he said. "And as long as they continue to be referred to as 'anti-Sikh riots' there can be no closure for the Sikh community. Discussions around mass violence and genocide will always be controversial but the continued denial of such historical injustices can only encourage modern day crimes against humanity." The petition urged the Australian parliament to recognize that an organised campaign of horrific violence took place against the Sikh community in November 1984, and that these killings were "genocide" as per the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. The petition argues that the "the intentional and deliberate nature of the attacks on Sikh lives, properties and places of worship during November 1984 makes them crime of `genocide'..." Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), an international human rights group that is lobbying to get the violence of November 1984 against Sikhs recognized as "genocide", supported the tabling of the petition in the parliament of Australia. According to Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a human rights lawyer & SFJ legal advisor, SFJ will now provide documents, witnesses and evidence related to November 1984 Sikh genocide to the Australian ministry of foreign affairs. 27. Fair enough but their parchaar is mainly to bring people in through stories of sikhi and influence through miracles and they are doing really well in this. A lot of people don't want to hear stories but are looking for deeper meanings to life; like why are we here? , Do I have free will? Nirgun and sargun? Who am I? What is my purpose in life? They are looking through a logical perspective. We need more parchaar in this direction as well - more advanced so people who start to follow sikhi don't start feeling that there is no real proof between these stories of sikhi and their daily life.

  28. Panjabis need a complete attitude change, that's what we need. Towards each other, towards the world. Right now we are some materialistic, backstabbing, hungry, show off, unsophisticated pendus. Education is only going to help if it gives us a more healthy, progressive mindset, not if it just some strategy to get better jobs and still act like small minded, backwards yokels.

  29. sikhs in other countries are quite well off, maybe they could support the country. punjab produces a lot of food, which could be sold to other countries. some natural resources such as limestone, petroleum and sodium can be found. Also, tourists might go visit the darbar sahib, right now many people don't know about it. But, how would new jobs be created here, we need educated people in Punjab, maybe then call centres and other buisnesses would set up in punjab.

  30. I don't know about you guys, but I see a cerebral and critical discussion as a big positive as that's something that will be productive and practical in the long run. Cross examination and acknowledging another side is good which is why I appreciate DalSingh101's posts a lot because he does have experience and has a good perspective. I do, however, believe we can (if we all give up our egos) come together and work on such things to empower ourselves for the future. Mistakes were made and we continue to make them, but I do think the newer generation is a bit more intelligent than the uncles who know nothing more than shouting speeches without any real goal. What screws up these discussions? Personal attacks and getting personal. Eat your ego and just play it safe.

  32. Lets not forget one key player in this game, especially if it involves India. Yes, the United States of America. Now remember how Pakistan has (pretty much) gone into the other camp, that being the Chinese, and on top of that the loss of US trust towards Pakistan thanks to them finding and thereby killing Osama on Pakistani soil. This is jackpot for India in terms of stronger US support, inspite of whatever economic (and now even climatic) chaos the US itself might be going through. Furthermore, India having the image of "the world's largest democracy" is an additional bonus for them in the eyes of US. So one thing is for sure, as long as the US doesn't see a personal interest in the Sikh struggle, it will be an uphill task to gather their much needed support. I don't need to tell anyone how world politics works. As much as we may hate to admit it, its not really advisable for any country to mess with the US, unless you really have something they're scared of. China, Iran, Pakistan and even India do possess some level of nuclear capabilities. That itself is a deterrent for the US to bug them, even though they do that from time to time. But see former USSR, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, these are just some countries who tried to be a thorn in the eyes of the US, and look what the US did to them. Before I beat around the bush and am incorrectly branded as "American boot licker" or "US devotee" lol, let me make myself clear. It can be difficult to achieve freedom without political support from other nations. As of now US may not feel empathy towards anything that they see as a harmful threat for India's economy, because it would affect their own trade with India, thus US economy as well. Khalistan will be projected by Indians as one such threat. And yes, I agree with dalsingh also. International support minus Punjabis waking up is equal to making a joke out of those who talk about freedom.

I also vote- JasSinghKhalsa, DalSingh101, Chatanga and Johny101 as political PR, providing political and historical perspective as well. ..!! They all have bought some amazing posts in the past. I also highly vote PAL07, (like to vote- kam1825 as well but he is not active on forum much) providing spiritual gurmat perspective as well as he spent many many years, time with mahapursh and understanding gurbani shabad in context. He could also validate what Consciousness and I have to say on matter if its trivial or bit of grey area, so transparency and accountability is maintained through out the whole way. I agree- freed is live walking encyclopedia singh when it comes to historical pictures/events etc. He should be part of the team too. It naturally becomes the duty of elder generation who are currently heading small or big organizations to include the upcoming young generation in decision making process. For example, whatever sikhi based stuff happens in uk, this forum itself becomes the strong activist. this place always becoming the hub/platform for Sangat to gather/share information. Maybe we can contact with Sikh council uk or uk sikh fed to include sikhsangat think tank as new appointed youth members. Just some points I like to share. Add freed member who is amazing in gathering historical items.

  35. Those are some marvellous explanations N30SINGH ji !!! I have thought about these concepts and explanations quite a lot due to some certain personal experiences. You defined the soul and consciousness quite well, although I somehow concluded that it was more of the 'Consciousness' I think that the 'consciousness' does Not itslf live in 'time' as only our physical sareer does. Therefore this consciousness is ALWAYS in the 'NOW' and because of that and no concept of time, is one reason why we don't remember past or previous sareers.See the sareer now and here and our brain is what has memory. We are conditioned to know what we know ie. Knowledge, because we have memory in the brain which instructs the mind.- ALL part of the huge maya illusion . The consciousness is kind of detached away form the mind and brain or it wants to be away and is not influenced by those same memories. - Because the consciousness doesn't have these memories, like I said it lives in the NOW. BUT- a bi BUT, is that the consciousness KNOWS much more than we actually think. It doesn't know these things from acquired learning and memory like our sareer dos, but it JUST KNOWS about the Lord and the real Truth outside of the ILLUSION. It's all very very interesting once you get your head around it. Did you get then above info from some useful references OR is it your own conclusion from a mixture of different references. Waheguru

Just as how we cannot just say the paintings of guru sahib do not predict thats how guru sahib looked like. as per chuniyan over dastaran its only a punjbai mentality thing. you can wear the chuniyan just around your neck if you want. when wearing bana you body is already covered so there is nothing to worry about so hazoorya is perfectly fine.

  39. After marriage... Sunday morning... Bittoo: Jenni darling, get dressed, I have ironed your salwar kameez, we are running late for the Gurdwara. Jennifer: wait, I thought you were coming to church with me today? Bittoo: but honey, we talked about this remember? One Sunday church, one Sunday Gurdwara? Jennifer: yes but today I need to make a confession at church. Bittoo: but I want to get Ardas done for my new car. Jennifer: well, can’t you wait until next week? Bittoo: can’t you? Jennifer: ok this is getting nowhere… Bittoo: ummm-hmmmm… Jennifer: well you could pray for your car at the church as well, God is One, isn’t that what you’ve always said? Bittoo: I suppose… At church…at the end of the service Bittoo: JO BOLAYYYYYYY SOOOOOO NIHHAAAAAALLLLLLLL…………..SAAAAAAATTTT SRIIIII AKAAAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!!

  40. Both angles are correct and need addressing: 1. Monay, smokers, drinkers who happen to be born into Sikh families are still performing beadbi to some level by having an Anand Karaj. Firstly they are non-compliant with at least 2 of Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Hukams. To live your life as a Keshdari Sikh, and not to give a duaghters hand to a clean shaven. Also this whole concept of the groom shiould have Singh in his name etc..is all a cover up... You cannot be a Singh without taking Amrit . How did Guru Gobind SIngh Ji become a Singh ? He was kniown as Gobind Rai before taking Amrit...therefore if even the Guru has shown us that without taking Amrit and joining the Khalsa your not technically a Singh...It's a like a Knighthood you earn it..yuo cant use the title by default 2. Mixed Marriages the issue is clear, it doesnt even warrant discussion, Theres an Akal Takht Hukamnama on the issue, end of story if you dont like it get married in a registry office. You cant bend Sikhi rules and regulations to suit yourself just because you dont have the strength of character to follow the path. Sikhi is a path where YOU have to make sacrifice not expect to be able to bend rules and carry on dioing whatever you feel like.
