Former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh’s grandson Harkirat Singh is suspected to have committed suicide with his licenced pistol at his Sector 5 residence here on Sunday. The family, however, claimed that he was cleaning the pistol when the incident occurred. Sources said Harkirat Singh (40) reportedly shot himself around 10.30 am after returning from a walk at the Sukhna Lake. His wife was present in the house at that time. Harkirat was rushed to the PGIMER by his security guards, where he succumbed to his injury. He had been suffering from depression. The post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow. Harkirat was the sarpanch of Kotli village in Ludhiana. He had met with an accident some months ago and was not keeping well since then. He was younger brother of Congress MLA from Khanna Gurkirat Singh and cousin of Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu. Harkirat is survived by his wife. The couple did not have a child. A pall of gloom descended on the Payal area when the news of death of Harkirat Singh (40), grandson of former chief minister Beant Singh, reached. Harkirat, sarpanch of Kotli village, was son of former transport minister Tej Parkash Singh. As per area residents, although Harkirat was having some health problems he was running the affairs of village panchayat smoothly. Taj Mohammed, an area resident, said Harkirat had met with an accident about 7-8 months ago and was having some health problem due to injury he sustained in his head during the accident. He said though Harkirat was under depression and his memory was affected by the accident, he was often seen in high spirits. He was fond of trees and had planted a number of trees in his fields besides village, Mohammed said. He was equally fond of sports and would organise a sports tournament in the village every year. About two months ago, he had organised a tractor-tochan competition in the village, where a large number of tractor owners had participated.

Harkirat’s grandfather Beant Singh was the Chief Minister of Punjab from 1992 to 1995.

On August 31, 1995, 73-year-old Singh was killed in a suicide bomb blast at the entrance of the Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Harkirat.

Congress general secretary in-charge party’s Punjab Affairs Shakeel Ahmad and Punjab Congress president Capt Amarinder Singh also condoled Harkirat’s death.

Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, Charanjit Singh Channi, also condoled the death of Harkirat Singh.

“Harkirat was very polite and humble in nature and he was a very good human being,” Channi said in his condolence message here. With PTI inputs

Why exactly did this guy do exactly? He's not guilty for the crimes by his ancestors unless he actually does something evil himself, (I haven't seen anything of the sort?)

It's unfortunate he died, but the sins of the parents and ancestors carry on to next generations. The true sakhi of the Sikhs who didn't obey Daveh Patshah's hukam of doing last rites of dead individuals in field according to their dharam were told by Guru Sahib that their generations will give birth to these Muslims and we're seeing the effect of this today.

Similarly there is a strong effect of such naastik and satanic elements like Jonny paji correctly pointed out and it's only with very big kirpa from Guru Sahib that someone is able to follow GurSikh panth.

A child cannot be responsible for a father's crimes. However....

....the lineage of butchers of Sikhs like Beanta and Badal are mentally ill. This should not be shocking.

This should not be celebrated as mental illness is a very serious problem. However, papis like Parkash and Sukhbir have no remorse so why should Sikhs have remorse?

Harsimrat gave birth to a "mentally retarded" child. This the Badal legacy.

    • Names of the creator that are used in Gurbani, were in existence before any Avtars etc… Raghu…means the the place where the Atma resides, where breathing takes place… Nath means…the master, the creator, etc…
    • Sir my question is why has occurred the need for modern vyakhakaars say this mean this , why our guru patshah used used those word  which are now being explained why did guru create confusion ?
    • Was listening to Sant Ji's katha on youtube.  Sant ji stated apart from the traditional raags, there is nothing wrong if Kirtan is sung in other NON - Raags set up by our Guru Ji's.  His example: Think of poison in a bowl.  Drinking the poison then blaming the bowl is silly. The poison is bad not the bowl. Likewise, we will never call a bowl Amrit once it contains Amrit init. Sameway it's not the raags being good / bad... it's WHAT we put into those raags. How many times Kirtan was sung but on a track of sum Bollywood tune? It is happening in Gurudwara by Raagis! Youtube also has Kaweshri jatha singing history of 1984, on Dr Dre's - Still Dre track.  Rap instrumental/ Bolly tunes stand neutral. We can either put bad things and sing with our own remixes and lyrics... or we can recreate to sing Shabads of Gurbabi, kirtan and Sikh Prachaar over them.
    • Everything in Gurbani points us towards the Atma. Atma and Parmatma are the same… Atama and Parmatma is the source that creates and causes everything… What have the following items got in common? A fan. A television. A fridge. A radio. A computer..? These things are powered by electricity. Without electricity these things are lifeless. It’s the electricity that causes these things to function… Atma is the source of energy that allows everything to happen.    without Atma, we are lifeless… Call this Atama RAGUNATH…call this Atma by any other name…the fact remains that it’s the life force energy… Dieties also have the same Atma as humans, but they still part of the creation, and not the creator…
    • Hi I want to know who’s ragunath in gurbani Hindu claim this word appear for ram chandra if we read guru teg bahadur maharaj salok maharaj clearly rejecting ram gayo ravan geo but at the last pangti Kahu naanak īh bipaṭi mai tek ēyk ragɦunaaṭɦ ॥55॥ Says Nanak, in this calamity, the Lord alone is my support who is this ragunaath why would maharaj use ragunath as refrence for god?
