  1. Press Release and Sangat Update Dudley, UK - 25 May 2011 www.SatkaarCampaign.blogspot.com CANCELLED: National Anti-Beadbi Rally on Saturday 28 May 2011 Family cancels its party at Sikh Cultural Centre, Dudley Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! In a Fateh (victory) for the Khalsa Panth, the family which had booked the party at the Sikh Cultural Centre, Dudley on Saturday 28 May 2011 have CANCELLED the party and rescheduled it to an alternative venue. The cancellation of the party by the family at the Sikh Cultural Centre has been confirmed to Satkaar Campaign Sevadaars by the family and by the West Midlands Police. The family made contact with representatives of Guru Nanak Gurdwara Edward Street West Bromwich of their own accord late on Tuesday evening 24 May 2011 and arranged an emergency meeting this morning Wednesday 25 May 2011. The meeting was held at Guru Nanak Gurdwara Edward Street West Bromwich and was attended by representatives from the Council of Sikh Gurdwaras Birmingham, Guru Nanak Gurdwara Sedgley Street Wolverhampton, Guru Har Rai Gurdwara West Bromwich, Guru Nanak Gurdwara Edward Street West Bromwich, Gurdwara Guru Hargobind Tividale and representatives from the Satkaar Campaign. The family explained that they were given assurances, which they later realised to be false, by the Guru Nanak Singh Sabha (GNSS) Dudley Gurdwara committee that there would only be a small number of individuals attending to protest against the party, and that the committee would be hiring bouncers and liaising with the police to ensure there was no disruption. The family also said that the nature of the protest had been misrepresented to them by the Dudley Gurdwara committee in that it had been intimated to them that the protesters were "fundamentalist" Sikhs wanting to stop other Sikhs having parties altogether in Dudley. However, after watching a show on Satkaar issues on the Sikh Channel and subsequently reading internet posts relating to the Satkaar Campaign, the family realised what the protest was about and that they too agreed that hosting the party at the Sikh Cultural Centre in Dudley which is part and parcel of the Dudley Gurdwara was against the principles of the Sikh religion. The family explained that they were disappointed with the actions of the Dudley Gurdwara committee and that they would in due course be willing to consider providing an interview to Sikh television media to highlight the unnecessary stress and expense that they had been put through so close to the date of their family event. It is particularly sad to note that the trustees and committee of Dudley Gurdwara were encouraging the family to have the party at the Sikh Cultural Centre despite knowing the Sikh community would hold a protest against it, when it is understood from Sangat living locally in Dudley that one of the trustees of the Gurdwara, Darshan Atwal, had cancelled his own family party at the Sikh Cultural Centre on 19 February 2011, and moved it to an alternative venue, to avoid a protest by the UK Sangat. The UK Sangat wishes to congratulate the family for the courageous step they have taken today and looks forward to working with the family to raise awareness of issues of Satkaar in the future. Further to discussions with the West Midlands Police, Sevadaars of the Satkaar Campaign, in consultation with representatives of the midlands Gurdwaras and the UK Sangat, have agreed to cancel the anti-beadbi rally scheduled to take place on 28 May 2011. The UK Sangat would once again humbly urge that the GNSS Dudley Gurdwara committee come within the Gurmat fold and pass a resolution that no parties will be held in the future at the Sikh Cultural Centre, in compliance with Akal Takhat Sahib's 2006 Sandesh. The GNSS Dudley Gurdwara committee should be left in no doubt that this issue will not go away and that if the UK Sangat learns again that there is any party to be held at the Sikh Cultural Centre, it will once again come prepared to peacefully protest against this gross sacrilege. The Satkaar Campaign, which is led and guided by the UK Sangat, has worked extremely closely with the West Midlands Police and the Sevadaars of the Gurdwaras listed below in relation to the Dudley issue together with the continued unstinted support of all Panthic Jathebandiaan. It is extremely encouraging that the UK Sangat is realising its Panthic duty to unite and collectively tackle the cancer of meat, alcohol, tobacco, parties and dancing being permitted by certain committees in Gurdwara buildings. With the continued blessings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj and the collective unity of the Khalsa Panth, the Satkaar Campaign will continue to work to promote Satkaar for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj and to implement the 2006 Sandesh in all UK Gurdwaras. West Midlands based organisations and Gurdwaras actively involved and leading on the Dudley issue are as listed below (and we apologise in advance for any omissions): - The Council of Sikh Gurdwaras, Birmingham - The Council of Gurdwaras, Wolverhampton - Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Sedgeley Street, Wolverhampton - Guru Nanak Gurdwara, High Street, Smethwick - Guru Har Rai Gurdwara, West Bromwich - Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Wednesfield - Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara, Willenhall - Guru Nanak Gurdwara, Edward Street, West Bromwich - Gurdwara Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji, Tividale Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

  2. *UPDATE* Beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj to take place at Hampton Court House, Surrey Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! The Satkaar Campaign's Sevadaars have been contacted by the Groom who has stated that the Anand Karaj has been re-arranged from Hampton Court House, Surrey to a Gurdwara. The groom further stated that the Hampton Court House will be issuing a statement tomorrow confirming that Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj's Pavittar Saroop will not be brought onto their premises on 29th May 2011. This case will not be closed until the statement from Hampton Court House is received. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

  4. Press Release and Sangat Update Surrey, UK - 26 May 2011 www.SatkaarCampaign.blogspot.com Beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj to take place at Hampton Court House, Surrey Anand Karaj to take place at this venue on Sunday 29 May 2011 Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh! The Satkaar Campaign Sevadaars learnt the concerning news yesterday evening that there may be the Beadbi of Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj's Pavittar Saroop being taken to Hampton Court House, Hampton Court Road, Surrey, KT8 9BS on Sunday 29 May 2011. This is very early stages and we are still trying to establish facts, though we were tipped off last night that it is intended that a Sikh Anand Karaj will take place at this venue. A Sevadaar has started a dialogue with the groom's family this morning, who confirmed that the wedding with Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj's Pavittar Saroop will be taking place there. The 1998 Akal Takhat Sahib Hukumnaama was explained to them, which gives the Sikh Community clear guidance that the sacred Saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj must never be taken to venues where alcohol, meat and tobacco are continously served. An offer by the Satkaar Campaign to re-arrange the wedding in a Gurdwara was also provided. We are not aware of who the Granthi or Ragi Jatha are that will be carrying out the ceremony/Beadbi, though apparently the wedding has been booked there for some months. The Satkaar Campaign officially sent an email to the venue last night and have followed up with phone calls. However, given the short timeframe involved, we now feel that the Sangat also need to contact the venue directly to courteously communicate to them the insult to Sikh sentiments that will occur by permitting the Anand Karaj to take place there. http://hchevents.com/contact/ Hampton Court House Switchboard: 0208 943 0889 Venue Enquiries: 0208 614 0857 We must all remember that it is the duty of every Gursikh to prevent Beadbi, and given that there is so much Beadbi happening, the Khalsa Panth must be united in collectively tackling it, whilst also being careful to use its collective resources most effectively where needed. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh!

  5. Did Sant Baba Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa go to the funeral of Gurbachan Singh, the Nirankari leader that was shot dead in 1980? Sant ji was all for sarbat da bhala and he never went to the funeral.

  7. This is very sad news. The Khalsa Panth has to wake up from its sleep Singho/Singhneeyon! Does this help explain why the Dudley protest was cancelled, as action might be needed here? I called the place up, but the woman didn't answer. I left her a voicemail, and will try calling again in the morning. Has anyone else called?

  8. Thank you for the replies _singhni_ Jee and PAL 07 Jee ...Really inspirational about doing 30 Maala's (108 beads) a day for 40 days ... Proper Kirpa! VaheGuru! And it's an interesting point that PAL 07 Jee raised about doing a Chaleesa in anything that one desires be it through Keerthan or carrying out some form of Seva each day ... I guess hardcore Chaleeseh were probably carried out by Sanths/Behangams due to the high level of penance and discipline required so one needs lack of distractions from normal daily life ... But I reckon it's a great way to start or increase one's Rehath Maryada even if it's just a case of reading particular Baania each day, all helps in forming a routine and training the mind to focus more ... VaheGuru!

  9. I think it was the right decision to cancel the protest because without the party then the likelihood of the committee even attending the Gurdwara at that time was is very low. More importantly, i'm glad the Satkaar sevadaars let everyone know that the party at the hall got cancelled else had we all attended and found out afterwards that Satkaar knew, then sangat would have become angry and most likely may not have come to any future protests...so thankyou to Satkaar for their transparency in this all! Its good that the family changed their minds and it just shows how powerful the Sikh Media Channels actually are! Also, its definitely important that we don't become complacent as the morcha against the party hall at the Dudley Gurdwara is still on!

  10. This is an amazing victory for all those who have campaigned on this issue! You cannot underestimate the humiliation of the Dudley committee before the family, their own sangat, the wider Sikh community and the West Midlands Police at this turn of events! The families on whose shoulders these Dudley committee people want to stand and fight their thirst for meat and alcohol have seen through them and pulled the rug from beneath them! Let this be a salutary lesson to them: the families will not stand by you when they learn the truth about your deceptive ways - no wonder you did not wish them to meet directly with sevadaars of the campaign! This will embolden the sangat to eradicate the cancerous practices of committees such as this Dudley one! The strength of the feeling against the Dudley committee can be gauged by the fact there are many including on this forum who despite the cancellation of the party still wanted to attend at Dudley this weekend to give the committee a message! Watch out for further coverage of the Dudley issue this weekend on Sangat TV this Friday from 7pm and on the Sikh Channel on Sunday on the Youth Show.

  11. We need to stop eating the bull that our media feeds us. Whilst I have the utmost respect for those who do serve in the armed forces (they are basically walking towards their possible deaths by signing up), the general public needs to stop supporting this "Our lads" or "Our boys" nonsense that the tabloid newspapers spew out whenever support for these immoral wars is waning. The propaganda machine guilt-trips us into thinking that if you're against the idea of war, then somehow you're anti-British or anti-American, etc. It's a very simplistic way of looking at things, and to be honest it's exactly the kind of tactics they've used in order to fracture society, i.e. you're either with us or against us. In their perception, there is no middle ground or grey area. Wake up Sikhs - don't feel like you have to pay obeisance to your adopted country by going along with everything they tell you. Using your own brain doesn't make you unpatriotic, a terrorist sympathiser or a traitor. Whilst these western countries have given us freedoms and opportunities that even our own country does not affford us, it does not mean we have to accept their brand of "slavery", no matter how subtle it may be.

  13. Its not comparing apples and oranges. Actually with your Bhai Ghaniya ji example you just said Sant ji didn't have the concept of sarbat da bhalla down. Your saying Bhai Ghaniya ji helped the enemy afterwards and Sant ji didn't even have the decency to attend the funeral of the Khalsa Panth enemy. Did Sant Nihal Singh ji attend the funeral of Indira Gandhi? Did Sant Baba Thakur Singh ji attend Indira Gandhi funeral? I guess they don't have the concept of sarbat da bhalla down like Bhai Ghaniya ji did. YOu have no place saying this woman did nothing wrong. What makes this womans funeral so important for Harnam Singh to attend. If they didn't attend for Badal, then shes just like every other woman in the world, but Harnam Singh doesn't attend the other woman funerals.

  14. I think that, under the Guidance of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj, the Satkaar Campaign are doing a briiliant Job!!! The awareness they are raising to promote Satkaar for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj is a life objective, of every true Sikh!!! This is another victory for the Satkaar Campaign. If it wasn't for the Satkaar Campaign the Dudley Committee would have been doing a lot worse, and a lot more of it !! I congratulate and thank the Satkaar Campaign Singhs and Kaurs for all they have done, are doing, and will be doing to promote Satkaar of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaaj. Onwards and upwards now though Sadh Sangat Ji, let us put all our efforts into promoting and getting every Singh and Kaur to attend the Sikh Freedom and Justice Rally for 1984 at 11am 5th June Hyde Park London! (let's bring the existing threads up for the march, or start new ones! - lets start promoting it again!!) Once the 5th June is over, we'll be back, Dudley Committee!!! Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh!!

  15. This COMMITTEE is a DISGRACE. They're more interested in Booze and Meat than ensuring their Langar hall is run properly with SUCHAM. Wake up Dudley Sangat and kick these modern day equivalents of Masands out of the Gurdwara - they have no place there!

  19. I think it might be worth having a backup for this kind of situations where the event may be cancelled. One alternative I can see is the coaches coming to a gurdwara sahib and sangat can then benefit from kirtan, langar, speaches about the issues. Not only will it mean they will have a good day , they can be ready for the next event.

  20. I've spoken to one of the Midlands elder Parbhandik Singhs who was in the meeting with the family. It was a difficult decision for the elders to call off the protest, as the UK sangat were really up for this. As far as I'm aware, coaches were at least ready to leave from Coventry, Southall, East London and minibuses/coaches were coming from Bradford/Leeds, Derby, Leicester, as well as countless other Sangat coming in cars. But in the end, I think the right decision was made. If the Sangat made journeys when they weren't really needed, then this would put them off for next time. It would be wrong for Satkaar to not disclose that the party had been cancelled, when they knew otherwise. ALSO, Sangat would be sacrificing other Seva to attend this protest. It's BEST if Sangat's and police (as we are taxpayers too) resources are used when they're most needed. It's best to "pick and choose" battles when they're most needed. Satkaar Campaign will be a long-term vision with many challenges that will come up - sangat has to keep this in mind. If any Singh feels otherwise that there is still a need to protest, they're still free to go down themselves as stopping Beadbi is duty of every Sikh - not a few individuals. I agree that this is a massive embarrassment for the committee. They were giving it large that the party will go ahead, but it's not. The family have, in fact, turned against the committee. They - the committee - are cowards for cancelling their own parties, and risking the parties of innocent and unaware families.

  22. I remember the same being said at Grays as well. That if they did not co-operate etc, then we would take Guru Maharaj and all saroops and take down the Nishan saab. Someone has just made a valid point to me that, Gurdwara committee's etc should be made accountable for actions. They need to provide a listing weekely to the Sangat as to how much daswand has come in, where it has been spent and what benefit the Sangat are getting. We have tooooo many examples, where commitees fight over money (which has come from the Sangat). Other examples are where the money has been spent on halls like this one, Certain committe members pocketing money and others fighting over Kabaddi tornaments. The list is endless..................................... I remember back in days when Havelock Gurdwara went bankrupt and they used to announce the accounts on a Sunday, it was broadcasted on Sunrise radio. These guys have really lost the plot. The Punj Chor have taken over them and blinded them. Hopefully the newly formed Sikh UK council, can get some sort of a structure in place where the UK Gurdwara's follow guidelines set. They can then get Audited on a regular basis. Anybody not complying will be dealt with appropriately. Bull Chuk Maaf.

  23. The attitude of the Committee is Disgraceful. But the fact of the matter is that without people willing to book parties in the Sikh Cultural Centre the Committee won't be able to carry out the beadbi they so desire. Even the committee member Darshan Atwal moved his own family party from the Sikh Cultural Centre to another hall in Wolverhampton, yet the committee seem to have manipulated another family to be a "sacrificial lamb" in this whole beadbi fiasco. It's not an easy call to make to cancel a protest, but I think there was a consensus with the Midlands prabhandik elders and other Jathebhandiys who felt that if a protest outside a Gurdwara could be avoided then it would be better for the profile and reputation of the Sikh Community. Not that GNSS Dudley really care about Sikh reputation, but the protest would have attracted large interest from non-Sikh media too. There is no change on the stand against the anti-Sikh activities of the GNSS Dudley committee and I know that the Sangat are ever ready to come down in the thousands as soon as this Committee try to allow another party on the Gurdwara property. If they do allow a party and the Sangat are unaware then I suppose the UK Sikh Community could peacefully do "KABZAA" of the Guru Ghar and evict the Committee.

  26. gut feeling tells me that the party will be cancelled as it was never really going to take place but was seen as a test on what the reaction would have been but the committee are hoping that by next year the satkaar campaign will die out so maybe next year once the 5 member committee has got its feet under the table made the centre more "Asian" and then all will be ok..... from previous history this committee cannot be trusted and has been seen to be one step head of the 8 ball....Be AWARE very AWARE....

In principle, this defacing of a poster is wrong, regardless of what was on the poster, a tyrannical act done by the taliban mentality of misguided muslims.

  34. Actually Mr Mandare you were not present at the gurdwara on sunday satkaar sevadars peacefully approached the sangat and talked to the "elders" with respect........inside the gurdwara these very elders where calling them kuthay etc and apparently it was the wife of your very respected financial sevadar mr anokh mandare that called one of the singh's a "bas**d" to his face......she was then politely told to go in the gurdwara by a local singh!!! facts about the party........its organised by the gurdwara committee/centre committee (same thing) local people received texts to come to the party for £20......no takers then reduced the price to £10 15 takers after the committee members went to there houses and now its now free!!! making another loss for the gurdwara to pick up!! it is a deliberate attempt to provoke the uk sangat as was the lies told by the committee re the gurdwaras ownership of the centre....if the general secretary of the gurdwara writes in the punjab times the centre has never belonged to the gurdwara why did they have to seperate transfer ownership of it for a £1.... if i asked you to give me your shop for £1 would you not be angry?? you don't live in dudley and haven't for 20 years things and people change but the sikhi agenda does not.....The West Midlands is cleaning up its act with regards to this matter and we wll unite peacefully on saturday!!! Watch the sikh youth programme repeat on sikh channel and see what is going on in Dudley and the words by a none turbanned singh and you will start to think deferently...on this committee and the continous lies and beadbi they are doing.

  36. Mr Medare - I think you must have cucumber on your eyes or something. 3 meetings have been held held or been attempted to be held over the last 3 or so months to explain to them through dialogue. Meeting 1: By Satkaar Sevadaars - the committee ended up getting very abusive to the youth. Meeting 2: By all West Midlands Gurdwara leaders - at first the committee refused to meet, and then only did so for a short while after keeping the parbandhiks waiting for more than an hour. At this meeting, the Dudley committee knowingly gave false promises, which they immediately broke the next day. Meeting 3: This was again going to be arranged by the police, though the committee said they did not want to meet the Gurdwara leaders. The Dudley committee have refused dialogue or to listen to the Sikh sangat or akal takht. Peaceful protest has only arisen after all other means have failed.

  37. Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa Vaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh! Veerji, your opinion is respected and well taken. Yes, these urges are natural, however, in the light of Gurbani, kaam is referred to as a demon, a thief that plunders the soul, and Guru Sahib repeatedly commands us to be wary of it. One mistake can ruin everything and one has to start from scratch, this is the reason why any physically intimate relationship with anyone besides one's married spouse is a bajjar kurehit. What you call suppression is in fact controlling and channeling the same energy in a different way. True, it is natural, no doubt, but it is natural because its been installed in our system as a mode to procreate, not to let it rule us and get us stuck in a vicious web. Thank you for posting your valuable thoughts. Please continue and discuss more so that me and all others can learn more and let me know wherever I may be wrong. - daas

  38. I had to do some research to work out what you meant by subsidiarity. When I found out what it meant, my reply is that you should understand that the Sikh faith works along the basis of a Nation/Quam/Panth. Therefore, your concept of subsidiarity only applies in a general sense, though where there is a gross abuse of Sikh principles (as the Dudley committee is doing), akal takht has every right to intervene and override what the locals are doing. THIS IS THE SIKH WAY OF DOING THINGS. IF THE DUDLEY GURDWARA COMMITTEE DISAGREES WITH THIS, THEY SHOULD RESIGN FROM THEIR POSITIONS AS CUSTODIANS OF A GURDWARA!

  46. I agree with the article and the authors viewpoint. Those of you who don't know, this Gurpreet character single-handedly RUINED the efforts of generations of Canadian Sikhs fighting for equal rights by sticking his nose in the business of niqab wearing women in Canada. Last time I checked Sikhism preached equality for men and women, and this yahoo representing the 'World Sikh Organization' went to defend a muslim man's right to keep women covered in a black tent as to not tempt other men. He couldn't plead his case AND the case and media spotlight instead started focusing on the Kirpan in government buildings. Nowhere in Sikhi does it state you have to wear a giant ghol pagh and blue kurta to a government hearing, and if he wants to fine, however he does NOT represent the vast majority of Sikhs in this country. Most amritdharis I know don't have to wear clothes that scream "HEY LOOK AT ME, I'M DRESSED LIKE A NIHANG, I'M AMRITDHARI, LOOK!". In fact unless you saw the white gathra from under their shirt you wouldn't even notice because their Sikhi, like a TRUE Sikh, does not have to be advertised.

Yes we must remember that this job is not complete its a good job but until anything changes and the centre refers back to the gurdwara this problem will still exist.....think the best thing should be that a kabzaa on the centre should take place with immediate effect....the jathia bandia leaders will have a lot to answer for when this situation arises again...as i'm sure it will and the fun and games will begin again!! Still think the protest would have had the best end result...even if it meant the uk sangat did simran in the gurdwara!!!

  49. Good news that the family have come to the senses and cancelled the party....... BAD News: Dudley Committee have not changed there minds on this issue and will continue to be defiant on this matter infact from what I have heard there position and popularity within the "sangat" has actually increasd...... Nothing has actually changed????? What will happen when we have no time or noticethat a party has been arranged ie if they got one on the 5th June when they know it maybe safe to do soo???? Has anyone actually resigned or been sacked from the committee.......NO I personally think cancelling this rally is not the right thing to do as nothing has actually changed by having a 1000 people there with full TV coverage and media will mean that we are actually serious in changing attitudes even if people come and visit this gurdwara once this will never happen again...other gurdwara will also see this and the campaign will flourish As stated before they have already disrepected Guru Ji, the Jathadars of Siri Akal Thakt and lied to the West Midlands Jathia Bandia Leaders Lied and mis informed the whole world on the ownership of the Sikh Cultural Centre and got off scott free....Its a total disgrace....Mark my words they will re name the centre Asian Community Centre and in a couple of years all will be ok to resume parties there as the Satkaar campaign will have ended!! You are dealing with the lowest form of sewer rats please do not just feed them with a little poison and then walk away!!

  50. If a Muslim woman wants to wear the niqab then she has every right too. Nothing as been ruined for any generations. Equality means to let a person practice their religion and the quebec government is taking that right away from the Muslim woman. The niqab on whether to wear it or not is the choice of the Muslim woman. If she wants to cover her body completely it becomes her choice and no business of yours. If half naked woman can walk around in Canada, then what is the problem with woman that cover themselves up? The whole television and movie industry is based on subjecting women to be sex objects, but where is your outrage to protect women from this kind of oppression that men place on them? Instead you hit the power button and watch with enjoyment. It's obvious your against Amritdharis who wear the bana. Why would a Sikh change his Guru given Bana for anyone. This country is about freedom so wearing a Bana is not a crime. Your mind is very twisted. Satguru wore the Bana was he screaming look at me? Sikhs are proud and at the same time humble to wear the Bana. If an African woman wants to wear her culture or religious clothing in Canada then that should be encouraged not hindered. If an Amritdhari wants to wear a dhumala then that is his right and it should be encouraged. The punjabis that drive there mom and dads hard earned bmw around, wear expense clothes that their parents visa paid for, and take out girls on their parents visa are the one looking to advertise their parents wealth as their own. These are the people who are seeking attention.
