What are missionaries? are they sant samajis? are they freelance and independent parchariks not affiliated with any puratan sampardayi/panthic organzation? are there any good missionaries? I have mostly heard bad stuff about these guys and they are usually a negative connotation. was singh sabha missionary? was bapu teja singh bhausaria the first missionary or so (was he one)? are most missionaries basically shankadharis and faithless folks like baljeet dehli, harjinder uk, neki (more of a commentator), dhadhrI? waheguru jio

I recently stumbled across this translation me and Bhagat Singh (the artist) worked on a good few years ago. It's from Giani Gian Singh's Twarikh Guru Khalsa. Niddar Singh put a smaller extract of this out, which brought it to the wider sangat's attention - including me (and no, I have no connection to him before anyone asks). The translation is rough as heck and me and Bhagat didn't agree on bits, so I take the responsibility of any flaws. I'll give page references to the original work later, and I hope to write up a little commentary on it some time and maybe even translate a few more paragraphs. Giani Gian Singh's (1822-1921) work is very important in my op…

WaheguruJiKaKhalsaWaheguruJiKiFateh daas was just wondering what Manglacharan is and what it means; and when does one read it? daas remembers searching on the internet on how to do take a hukamnama from Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaaj and upon doing so, daas found the www.BCSikhYouth.ca site and it said that Baba Harnam Singh Ji Kherasahib wale said the proper way to take hukamnama was to either read manglacharan (Which would bring a more "accurate" hukamnama) or by reading Mool Mantr. Could sangat please enlighten daas on what Manglacharan means and what is "considered" to be Manglacharan. Thank you - daas WaheguruJiKaKhalsaWaheguruJiKiFateh

Check this nonsense below................... SUKHMANI, SIKHI AND FRAUDULENT BABAS:Ritualizing or Spiritualizing? By Karminder Singh Ph.D (Boston) Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Source: http://sikhbulletin.com/Bulletins/Si...SepOct2013.pdf This article has two objectives: to bring about genuine appreciation of Sukhmani Sahib within the Sikh reader’s mind; and secondly to help remove the plethora of dera-concocted myths and tales that have succeeded in turning Sukhmani recital into a ritual. After Japji and Rehras, the Sukhmani is believed to be the most widely recited banee. Why then is there a need to bring about appreciation of banee that is already widely…

A Glossary of the Tribes and Castes of the Punjab and North-West Frontier Province by Horace Arthur Rose in 1911, is a great little skim through to read. He mentions quite a bit about Sikhs and even dives into the caste dynamic in these regions.

What granths have been kept by certain groups of people throughout history? I think Dasam granth was kept gupt from the English to an extent during colonial rule and I have heard of Sau Sakhi (the real one not the adulterated one) being kept gupt with certain sampardas. I also think that all of Sarabloh granth was kept gupt for a long time by the nihangs. What other gupt granths do we know or have heard mentions of?

Waheguru Recently i was listening to this debate by Baba Hari Singh Ji Randhewale. The person on the right says that the maryada at Darbar Sahib is not the same as it use to be during Guru Sahibs time, he claims it has been changed and it is more in line with hindu vaad then Gurmat. Then Baba Hari Singh Ji mentions that Bhai Mani Singh Ji Saheed wrote a granth about the maryada at Darbar Sahib but Baba Ji doesnt want to tell where the pothi is so no one steals it. I know alot of people know Baba Hari Singh Ji or someone who does, is there a way we can get more information to see if it will be published. forward to 5 min 44 sec

Trying to think how to ask this right... Is there significance to the brush stroke order of Gurmukhi? Are there symbolic, scientific, engineering or other concepts embedded into Gurmukhi script? Was it originally brushed?
