When reading Chandi Di Vaar you should be standing and holding a shastar in your hand. Big or small it does not matter. You could also do it sitting but then you must place your shastar in front of you. It should be read at amritvela and before the sun sets. I like to read path with a jot as a big light is usually to bright. You should use a toof for good smell. You can sit on a blanket which is laid out on floor or a bed. You should have some water near you while reading the path. At the end you should drink it and sprinkle it around. I also recommend doing kirtan of this path witj the sal sangat or listening to it. I recommend reading ugardanti after rea…

This is an early piece by the author:

In 1846 C.E., when they had defeated the Sikh nation of Punjab, the officers of the British East India company found themselves in charge of a vast tract of land inhabited by a proud people with a history of surviving political and religious oppression. The Khalsa Sikhs, the order of "saint-soldiers" founded by Guru Gobind Singh in 1699 had weathered Mughal oppression and rebounded from two ghallugharas, or "holocausts" (1746 and 1762). When the Sikh confederacy was joined together by Maharaja Ranjeet Singh in 1801, it governed a domain the size of France. The Punjab was the last part of the Indian subcontinent to fall to the British, and two short years later, the Khalsa…

"If you cover your arm in oil and stick it in a sack of sesame seed, and if a musllaman takes as many oaths as the number of sesame seeds stuck to your arm..................... still never trust him!" I have heard this by 2 sikhs till now.... Guru Gobind Singh ji were helped by muslims also , though many tyrants were muslims at that time . Peer Buddh shah , Nabi Khan & Gani Khan , I think the list is endless ...! This apparent "hate" thing can be applied similarly to hindus since they broke their oaths on cow and counting hindus as enemies of khalsa - the list is also long !

A King named Suraj (Sun) had eight sons. The youngest of the eight named ‘Shani’ (Saturn) was from his second queen. He was black, ugly and lazy. The marriages of the princesses were solemnised through the rite of ‘Swaiamber’. Seven elder sons of Raja Sun got married but no one approved Shani for marriage. In order to show him fair coloured, his mother applied Vermillion on his body. Even then no girl accepted him in marriage. When King Suraj died his wife burnt herself alive on the same pyre. Lazy Shani would not even earn his living. Whatever grams was made available to him by his brothers, he would live on it. His sisters-in-law had named him eater of seven ty…

Originally posted in 2010 on sikhawareness.com: The maharajah’s European doctor John Martin Honigberger, a native of Kronstadt in Transylvania (no Dracula jokes please!), was a medical man. He spent 15 years at Lahore, as a physician and a Director of a gunpowder mill in the service of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. He was at Lahore at the British ‘annexation’, after which he was made to relinquish his former position on receipt of a pension. His published work, Thirty-Five Years In The East, was released in two volumes with part 1 being an autobiographical narrative and volume 2 concentrating on medical matters. That being said, in v…
