three things i would love to see in 50 years time. 1) For Nankana Sahib to be the gretest attraction of the world. for it to be as clean as any other sikh shrine. this was the place where nirankar decided to come back to earth. Also live 24 hours raag kirtan coming live from there. 2) To be able to visit mecca, and baghdad where guru nanak dev ji went and having something put up in their name to commemorate their great achievments so that the islamic nation will give the respect to guru nanak dev ji that they deserve. To make the gurdwara in baghdad well known and show its splender to the world. 3) Create a modest but beautiful gurdwara in Khurm Iran where bhai Mardana…

http://www.ndtv.com/morenews/showmorestory...traits&id=48476 Punjab farmers driven to suicide Swati Maheshwari Thursday, February 5, 2004 (Fatehgarh Sahib): Farmers in Punjab with small land holdings are being forced into the arms of loan sharks as there are few officially sanctioned credit schemes. But with exorbitant interest rates, they are being forced into debt and some of them are even choosing death. Mehar Singh, a farmer with a four-acre plot in Anandpur village in the district of Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab has to repay a debt of nearly Rs 4 lakh that he took to build a small house for himself and to lay underground pipes in his farm. Little choice Wi…

http://www.sikhnet.com/sikhnet/discussion....69?OpenDocument "I met Kucinich last Sunday as he had tea with a group of prominent Sikhs. One of the things he said was that this country could benefit greatly by modeling some of our programs on Sikh practices. He also said many other amazing, radical, revolutionary things, including that he thinks Sikhs should be allowed in the military. What I appreciate about Kucinich is that he is brave enough to be as liberal, and as idealistic as he wants to be. Also, he has very practical plans for implementing his ideals. In my life, I've never felt like I could share my real feelings with many people. I think most people would laug…

Khalsa jeeo, this might be a very strange question for the sangat...but Khalsa has chardi kala so i hope you guys forgive me if i say anyhing wrong. i fully stand by anand karaj....but here comes a fundamental question...it may seem like it is asked by a humanist/atheist...but i think we should answar such questions to construct a Khalsa identity...so i think this is a rather constructive though.... so, why should there be a marriage ritual? if we think of pre-civilization era (as per historic references) were men and women "forced" (i know it is a too strong word) to have a ritual?....did they even have such a materal life?...or a "free" life...i do not mean free sex (…

Waheguru ji ka khalsa, Waheguru ji ki fateh! We hope to make a good size documentary, and hold several seminars at gurdwaras around Toronto, and other areas. The documentary will be put together by this guy from BBC, who does their documentaries, right now we're just starting out, getting all the material together, so that we can sort it out, and give to the BBC guy to make a proper documentary on it, so that its all factual evidence, nothing made up. At the moment, we need all info, videos, pics anyone may have that they can share, to help contribute to this, because 20 years have passed, and no-one has made a detailed documentary to show what actually happened in chr…

Vaheguroo Jee Ka Khalsa!! Vaheguroo Jee Kee Fateh!! I have a few questions regarding bana: 1. What's the difference between a closed chola and an open chola (in the front)? 2. What is the significance of the kaliaa(n) (stitchings)? 3. What is the significance of the hazooria? 4. What is the significance of the kamar kasa? 5. What is the significance of the chand-thora? 6. What is the significance/history behind the dumalla? 7. I've seen some people wearing a hazooria AND a kamarkasa at the same time. Shouldn't you just wear one, i.e. hazooria while doing seva and kamarkasa while doing gatka/fighting? 8. Some people have told me that they wear their keski during …

WJKK WJKFateh! Here in toronto, I'm beginning to see this new "trend", I saw this guy, had a gole dastaar, then had a long patka tied around it, is it ok to do that? Cuz, I'm seeing this on a couple of people with dastaars. Just wanted to know why they do it (if anyone knows), and if you think its ok to do it. WJKK WJKFateh!
