I've been rather surprised by all the media attention over the appearance of Guardsman Jatenderpal Bhullar on parade duty outside Buckingham Palace this week. For sure, Guardsman Bhullar, 25, has become the first Sikh to wear his turban on guard duty outside the palace. But it is not all that long ago that turban-wearing Sikhs were a familiar feature of Britain's military landscape, particularly when it came to fighting world wars. During the glory days of the Indian Empire, Sikh soldiers were highly regarded by British officers for their martial prowess and never-say-die attitude. Sikh sepoys regularly fought alongside British soldiers during the frequent tribal revolts…

Hi All, Is it just me or does anyone else think that science and sikhi go hand in hand? Were always told that you either believe in the big bang or god - My understanding is that waheguru is infinite and eternal. It is said within the SGGS that there are millions of galaxies etc. and that the human mind will never be able to fully comprehend wahegurus creation but thats not to say science is wrong? Im no scientist but I enjoy researching astrology and the size of this universe and reading into all these questions we have on how big the universe is etc. Science makes new discoveries everyday and although we have come far in terms of disocvering the universe, i believe i…

Why do Sikhs believe a miscarriage of justice is being carried out and why should Indians join the Sikhs in seeking a re-trial or freedom for Professor Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar. For one week now, there has been a continuous vigil and protest outside No.10 Downing Street in London. Why are the Sikhs protesting his death penalty?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/8412741.stm CPS are reviewing the death of Blair Peach in the April 1979 Southall Protest against the National Front. Blair Peach, a teacher from East London, was found beaten to death on Beachcroft Avenue towards Southall Town Hall. It has never been evident if the Police or the National Front Siknheads beat him to death. For those of you niave “Sikhs” keen to smooch the backsides of the BNP, you may want to catch up with your fathers and grandfathers, many of whom were present on that day in Southall to stand up against the National Front. The racist National Front decided to hold an election meeting in Southall. The F…

The first Punj Pyare were selected by Guru Gobind Singh Jee. That was dictatorship of the Guru and rightfully so. But these days I have seen that in some jathebandis, 5 singhs are selected by sangat(a form of democracy) whereas in Budha Dal, I have heard 5 singhs are selected by the jathedaar( which is a form of dictatorship). According to Gurmat, which is the correct way of choosing 5 singhs ? Amrit Sanchars are the key to the charrdi kala of the panth and charrdikala of the 5 singhs is one of the key factors in an amrit sanchar.

i was eating my roti and stumbled across a special show on Astha Channel...the show appeared to be dedicated to Vaisakhi ...the speaker at this huge event was a guy called 'Shri Satpalji Mahraj'...all i heard was him say Vaisakhi but thopught Vaiskhi is not just celebrated by Sikhs but then he mentioned and Guroo Gobind Singh Jee and i had to listen further Now at first i thought well its good that the rest of India is being taught about the greatness of our Guroo's and how they have impacted on the lives of non-Sikhs without them knowing. But as i listened further a voice in me kept saying...is this the same parchaar that was done about Buddhism 1000 years ago? Now ind…

When we first encounter dharam, it fires arrows at us and they hurt. In time we learn these arrows are actually of love so rather than developing thicker skins we need to let go of everything and allow them to penetrate our souls. That's where the difficulties begin!

Good efforts from these Singhs, but maybe next time do it honestly and NOT make up organizations. Akj Calgary, damdami taksal Calgary and Edmonton? These groups don't even exist! You can't just name a city and add a jatha name in front if it!

No other religion I have ever encountered has been more equipped to handle the many challenges that face the modern world as sikhism. A spiritual void is sweeping across the west, and I feel that sikhism, if properly explained, could address this moral and religious vacuum. As much as I despite it, Islam is growing in the west and this is not only due to immigration. Muslims actively evangelize, and they are vocal about their beliefs. The fact that their beliefs tend to border on insane doesn't matter, since many westerners are longing for the spiritual home that their parents had... but cannot accept the concept of a triune God or the divinity of a man. I am calling…

http://www.sikhsangat.org/publish/article_174.shtml I am amazed at his accomplishments!!! He is truly someone you can look upto. - Not surprisingly, he is a much-feted man, winning as many as 60 awards all over the world. And the Order of British Columbia (OBC), which was bestowed on him last week. The award citation read: "Dr Raghbir Singh Bains emigrated to Canada in 1990, and has since worked tirelessly as a volunteer, community activist and educator for organisations to promote cultural understanding and mutual respect. He has presented (papers) at seminars and conferences worldwide on the subjects of drugs and youth, AIDS awareness, environmental issues and world …

Can people criticise Sikhi? Recently some woman in Austria was fined and jailed for calling the muslim prophet a pedo. Now obviously different people will have different opinions on this, some will agree some won't. In European countries this is a very touchy subject and we now live in a politically correct culture where most people hesitate to voice their opinions in case they offend someone. With people being jailed for criticising religion, political correctness it makes you wonder if freedom of speech really exists. But what about sikhi, let's say khalistan was created, would the Hindus, Christians, dalits and whatever be allowed to criticise Sikhi? Would th…
