  1. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Guru Roop Sangat Jeo, By Guru Sahibs Grace here is Garab Ganjani (Teeka of Sri JapJi Sahib) by Kavi Santokh Singh Ji: GARAB GANJANI TIKA, by Bhai Santokh Singh, is an exegesis in the Nirmala tradition of Guru Nanak`s Japu. The commentator, a celebrated poet and chronicler and author of the monumental Sri Gur Pratap Suraj Granth, completed the work, his only one in prose, in 1886 Bk/AD 1829. Whereas all his poetic works are written in Braj, this one is in Sadhukari. Santokh Singh undertook the writing of this commentary at the behest of his patron Ude Singh (d. 1843), the ruler of Kaithal, who, dissatisfied with an earlier tika by an Udasi sadhu, Anandghana, had wished a fresh one to be prepared. The original manuscript of Garab Ganjani Tika is preserved in the Dr Balbir Singh Sahitya Kendra at Dehra Dun. It was first published in AD 1910 and again, with certain corrections and punctuations, in 1961. The latter edition comprises 184 printed pages. The work opens with an invocation to God, followed by couplets eulogizing first the Ten Gurus and then Sarasvati, the goddess of learning. The poet salutes his mentor Giani Sant Singh whom he had in his younger days heard expound this text. This also explains how he had come to launch on this Tika. He brings out the majestic sublimity of the Japu and alludes to its general popularity. These explanations occupy all of the first four pages; the exegesis proper begins at page 5. Towards the end of the work, there are four couplets explaining the title of the work:Garab Ganjam Tika is Tika or exegesis that dispels and eradicates (ganjam = that which eradicates) arrogance (garb = pride). The exegesis is proffered in the form of a gosti. The Sikh, herein called mumokhi, i.e. one who is a seeker of mokh or release, puts questions to the Guru as to how he can attain liberation and the Guru answers those questions. 2. After all the warnings to apneean about not getting themselves in situations like this - you go and do it anyway.......what does that tell us about you? And now, barely out of your teens, you are talking that Heer Ranjha stuff like you are the first person to ever feel like this. To me you are just yet another Sikh girl who is disgracing her community. Thanks a lot for that. Honestly, how do you expect us to feel about what you are doing??? Seriously, I would hate for any female relative of mine to be doing what you are. I've heard exactly the same crap about 'my bloke, he isn't religious and all that' a dozen times before from apneean, who you then find have converted a few years down the line anyway. So a lot of girls in your position are incapable of actually seeing reality as it is. Besides even if you don't convert, it's still besti for your family. What do you want us to say? Straighten your head out, realise it was foolish to get into the thing in the first place and GET OUT, however 'hard' you may find it.

  3. I was born in UK and so where my mum and dad, I was not really into religion up until recently. Those of you who know me will know that my wife was born to Hindu family. We had anad karaj at Gurdwara I was married in 2004 no other hindu fire ceremony. My surname is Singh but belong to Sandhu also. As I have never used Sandhu my wife uses Kaur, not Sandhu. As I did not want her to be called Mrs Singh. I have a gorgeous wife and two gorgeous kids. There surname are Kaur and Singh. I try my best to educate them. We go Gurdwara every week, (OK only on Sundays but small steps are better than being stagnent, as there too young to enroll in punjabi school). My wife has never ever objected to any Sikhi related things infact she embraces everything. OK we are not true Sikhs but what we do is with true sharda. Even my in laws pay full respect to Sikhi. I have never been told to embrace hindu religion infact opposite is that my in laws are proud there daughter married a decent guy who is from a sikh background. The sandesh of 2007 most gurdwareh do not abide by as only last autumn one of my white associates married a sikh girl at Havelock Road Singh Sabha the sandesh from 2007 was ignored.

  4. Sikhs should learn from this man, especially youths who like to sing songs of Khalistan and bigging up Khalistan for lyfe and run broken record slogans against India on their comfy leather chairs all day long and do swat all day long. I really think Sikhs needs to pay more attention to be trained in political ethical cyber war journalism. I have been searching for Ethical Sikh internet hacker for quite some time now to voice against human rights abuses around the globe via cyber war journalism, I have yet to find one. If not anything else, join Wikileaks, support Wikileaks, make yourself available to Wikileaks in case they need help exposing Human rights records in punjab..why don't we send jaswant singh khalra work on human right abuses in punjab to Wikileaks? This era is not picking up sword fighting era and its information cyber warfare era. Wikileaks have done more seva alone exposing human right abuses around the globe than all the minority groups combined.

  5. As soon as you're married to the guy (or run-off with him), he WILL begin concerning himself about religion, specifically your religion and how it needs to change to Islam. Anyway, it's your life. Good luck and I hope things turn out well for you if you decide this guy isn't for you. I hope you buck the trend but I ain't holding my breath and neither should you.

  6. Haanji, it never occoured to me but now that you mention it could very well be a possibility The title does have a bir-rassi element to it, maybe that was intentional? Saadhukari isnt very difficult to comprehend, compared to say Brij Bhakha which is common language used by Nirmale poets and writers of that period. But if we compare it to conversational Punjabi as we know it today, it does takes some time to learn and getting used to, mostly because of its unconventional and long sentence structure.. its quite different from conversational punjabi. It also uses quite few hindi/sanskrit/brij bhasha words, and it does help if one has some knowledge of these languages. Perhaps these languages are blended in together in Saadhukari so that saints/writers/intellectuals from other states that have different vernacular can understand it also.

  9. If people want to talk about Khalistan, childish, unrealistic pipe dreams isn't going to do anything. I've been watching this thing since before most of you were born. Big Internet talk isn't going to achieve anything. People need to go back to basics and understand politics and economics (amongst many other things). In depth! Those who just open their mouths emotionally, without an adult understanding of exactly what getting a Khalistan would actually involve in real terms, are pipe dreamers at best, or fools of the highest order at worse, who actually jeopardise their own desire anyway. We need clued up realistic leaders, not over excited teenagers. This isn't putting the idea down, rather it is facing up to harsh reality. Which too many young so called pro-Khalistanis struggle with. Not that they will pull anything off, but give these dimwitted people a chance and at best they would create yet another puppet nation of the west in the region. You want to talk freedom and sovereignty, try understanding the concepts first. I'll let you internet kharkoos get on with it now. Remember children, do your homework before you spout your mouths. Help the movement mature.

  10. Vaheguroo Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguroo Ji Ki Fateh to my sister, most have said whats needed to be said, really this relationship would be damaging to you. About your saddness, please read Salok Mahalla Nauva by Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji (its got a translation as well just in case you can't read gurmukhi): http://www.gurbanifiles.org/pocket_pc/SlokM9_GE.pdf Please read the whole thing, the things Guru Ji teaches us in this about life are just priceless. If only we could remember all of this all the time we would never be sad again. Also remember whatever you love about someone, its not the person that you love. In reality all things that we find good in this world or giving us pleasure are really Vaheguroo himself. If you want the infinite times the happiness you recieved from your boyfriend Vaheguroo can give it to you. I heard a katha today which was great, he was talking about family relations (we can apply it to your situation to). He said that all relations we have in this world are based on worldly things, in reality all the people we meet who we seem to have love with and love us are really only interested in what they can get from us, who in this world is a totally self-less lover? Our Guru who knows everything tells us there is no one, everyone is in it for their own happiness, even if we don't realise it, what the Guru is saying to us about this is nothing but the truth. There is no relationship in this world or the next that will not cause us problems of some sort except for a relationship with our Guru and Vaheguroo. Make a relationship with them and I guarantee you you will eventually feel countless times more bliss and love from him than anyone, so much so that you will not even remember anything else. What you need to do is ardas. you need to do a heartfelt prayer to your Guru Ji asking him to lead you the right way and for his protection and help in everyway. I would also suggest getting it touch with some proper GurSikhs just to get your focus on whats good for you and to realise there is life outside of one person. Especially when you have the choice between a relationship that could ruin you in worldly terms and spiritual terms or friendship with those that could lead you the right way. Give us here a rough idea of where you live and I am sure someone could tell you about when good GurSikhs meet to do sangat and talk. Vaheguroo Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguroo Ji Ki Fateh

  17. Sat siri Akal The following is a thread I found on the forum a few years back by Jangal Da. Sikhs were once famed horsemen and Emily Eden during her tour of the Punjab with her father, the Resident of Delhi, during the Sikh Shahi of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, commented upon the fact that Sikhs had 'very showy horses' in her memoire. A long time ago I read that the breed of horses developed by the Sikhs of that period was known as 'Anmol' which literally means priceless. The breed was developed from the best of the Arab and Central Asian breeds. Prior to that Sikhs raided good quality stock from the Mughals and Afghans. If you look at the paintings of Sikhs done by European artists of the period, you will see that the horses were beautiful, grand creatures, with many features akin to pure bred Arabs. This is a sharp contrast to today where I am afraid to say that seeing a decent horse in Punjab is a rarity and even the Nihangs that are said to uphold the tradition of horsemanship, mostly ride very badly and ride the kathiawar breed which is a pathetic looking horse compared to the what the Sikhs rode in the past. (Again partition is to blame as good quality horses used to arive from the breeding grounds of Kandahar and Kabul to the horse fairs of Punjab). Anyone who rides a horse and has seen their displays, unfortunately knows what I am talking about. In the Uk we are fortunate that almost anywhere apart from maybe the remote highlands, horse riding lessons are accessible. I strongly urge the Sangat to engage in this pastime, as it not only keeps you fit, but is a thoroughly enjoyable way of maintaining our heritage. Certainly consider this for those that have kids aged between 5y and 10y as that is the perfect age to start. a fresco from the original Akal Takht showing Bhai Bidhi Chand presenting Gulbagh and Dilbagh The major problem I want to identify is what happened to the breed after the destruction of sarkar-e-khalsa. Were the British mainly responsible for the loss of good blood stocks or was it down to us. Did Partition really make a difference? Its a major travesty that part of our heritage has been taken away from us. Forget the Rajasthani type horses, I dont belive Hari Singh Nalwa ever rode any of them. Either way I really want to see the horse our ancestors rode and tasted glory with.

  18. Always Go to the Guru, and you will know whats up. Guruji has all the answers. The aim is not to create fear, but its good if you feel this way, if it means you will get up and do something and not live in apathy. We are going to have to do something. What we are already doing is not enough, we are really going to have to increase our Sikhi 10 fold. I know im not one to talk, as im am hypocritical, but we as a race must get together.

  19. All the mahapursh in the past have encourage students never to criticize takth sahiban maryada and always do satkar of them despite of differences in samparda maryada. In Gurmat Maryada pustak, sant baba gurbachan singh ji bhindranwale mentions how one shouldn't criticize takht sahiban maryada he mentions how he does not agree with arti-arta concept in sachkhand hazoor sahib but despite of that, it holds hazoor sahib maryada at high esteem. One should take all panj takhth sahiban maryada at very high esteem when they do anything for the panth or in panthic circle but when it comes personal sikhi, one can follow sampardai maryada. It's very simple concept that is still used when you learn sikhi through mahapursh, that avoids all the conflicts of my samparda's maryada is right and others are wrong.

  20. True words of guru sahib. They were true in past they are true today and they will remain true in future. Now just put these words in reality and see what is the tej of guru sahib. I visited sachkhand hazzor sahib the place were arti is in practice. And most of the sangat know those who dont must be amazed to hear that in whole city nanded. There is not even a single local sikh who does beadbi of kesh. It must be the only city in this world whose sikh population is 100% kesadhari. I find it strange and very hard to digest the places were Real mareyada is being followed even the granthis are finiding it hard to keep their kids in sikh sroop. On the other hand where brhamin rituals are being followed 100% sikh kesadhari and over 80 percent amritdhari and that to without any special parchar. Jab laag khalsa rahe neyara tab lag tej deu main sara these bachans are partkh at sach khand sri hazzor sahib the Takth following the so called "brhamins mareyada". On the other hand in punjab i need not say whats going on and everyone is aware. I have special respect for mareyada of akal takth sahib every one in my family follows it and I always advocate there should be 1 mareyada for the whole sikh panth. But the approach of getting this done should be sitting together and discussing thing this is what nihangs think this is what taksalis think give your sources and in the end decide on some thing. Instead of forcing and trying to prove the other person is RSS or brhamin. Such approach of calling each other brhamin will only produce friction in panth nothing more then that. More over singh ji you said Akaal Takht Sahib are against this practice full stop. Should i post another articles from the same website which is promoting opposite views of akal takth sahib.

  21. Aarti written by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Bhagat Ravidas, Bhagit Kabir, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Nowhere do they promote the physical aarti of using a deeva. You are the immaculate and pure, O Brilliant Lord of Wealth! thath thael naam keaa baathee deepak dhaeh oujaaraa | With the oil of knowledge about the essence of reality, the wick of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, this lamp illuminates my body. God the Knower knows. --- All Both Bhagat Jis and Guru Sahiban jis are against the physical aarti as Guru Nanak Dev Ji made an example that the real aarti is not physically doing it but doing sewa and service to Akaal Purakh and the True Guru. What someone on youtube claimed was the bollywood video of amitabh bachan is the right way of doing aarti and they somehow preserved a prathan tradition of the Khalsa panth...

  22. Keep the rehat wear kakkar and take amrit after a month or so by that time you parents will be comfortable with ur changed life style. You should know no sikh parents are against amrit but the parent-kid bond is far more stronger and parents tend to think by taking amrit our kid may change his social life will stop he may leave the house etc. This is the only reason they tend to avoid amrit. After all they are your parents going against them isnt gurmat either. I will not suggest taking amrit without their permission or rushing into it. But spend time reading bani start wearing kakkar starting waking up at amrit vehla. You will also have a glance of post amrit life as well as your parents. After a month or so your family will be surely ready.

  27. I completely agree. True story: Years ago I asked a younger Sikh why he wasn't paying attention to his studies and spending so much time watching excessive amounts of TV or just bumming about (N.B. He was a chardhi-kala young Singh and as far as I knew, he wasn't a "bad" person). His exact words were "What's the point, man? When Khalsa Raaj comes on earth innit, we gonna run tings. I ain't wasting my time reading a book and studying". The problem was that he wasn't averse solely to western education, but the poor fella didn't even know much about Sikh history. Like you said above, most of what he knew was to do with the 1984 situation, etc. He looked the part for sure but apart from that, there wasn't much going on upstairs. Some of our youngsters are using Sikhi as an excuse not to do anything. I don't know where this thinking has originated from.

FYI - Pyara Bhogul from Birmingham was on last weeks episode (Big Question Episode 8 - no longer available to view online) where they were discussing Karma and Reincarnation from a Hindu & Sikh perspective. Dont get me wrong he is a nice enough guy, but he made such a mess of explaining it. Most of the audience were actually giggling and laughing, it was such a Joke. Why do these individuals go onto national television when they are simply not articulate enough too debate under scrutiny. The Sikh Council need to own public relations. All this needs to go through them. C'mon Sikh Council step up!

  36. SikhSangat do not encourage members to have such topics on our forum. We strive to create peace and unity between several groups/Jathas within our society. Rather than discussing this topic which creates invisible walls between sangat, we encourage members to discuss the lifestyle and character of Sant Jarnail Singh ji bhinderanwale ji. SikhSangat will always agree with the hukam/order/gurmatta coming out of Sri Akal Takht sahib. Keep UNITY rather separation without compromising gurmat. Topic Closed.

  37. I don't think so at all. If anything the international community is deferring to India's wishes because India has a massive market for them to sell their goods/services. In these types of economics, rural minorities like us don't really count for much. I mean look at the recent £4.4 billion deal BP made in India to see what kind of moves are going on. Sikhs are so politically naive it is unbelievable. Western economies are capitalcentric (i.e. they put money first). I don't think they would contemplate jeopardising their current interests/investments in India for the sake of Sikhs. Now if we had mounds of oil under the ground, things might have been different (as we can see all over the globe). Frankly I can't see outsiders getting overly enthused over the agricultural produce our economy is based on. Expecting the west to magically rescue us from our oppressors like knights in shining armour, is not only highly unrealistic, but also embarrassingly weak on our part. We've turned from warriors into damsels in distress.

  39. I firmly believe Sant Bhindarnwale is SHAHEED. I find it astonishing that people say he is still alive??? What has gotton into people. We are Sikhs of Guru Gobind Singh ji. We have a responsibility to be intelligent and excercise truth. Those who want to live a lie and trick others into believing this lie are commiting a sin. I try to understand why they do this, since they also are our sikh brothers but its hard for me to understand. Is the bachan of Baba takur singh more important to them than the word of the Supreme Authority of Akaal Takht??? Seriously Sikh brothers and sisters lets not fool ourselves any longer. Sant ji is Shaheed and a great honour it was for him. Shaheed Sant Gyani Jarnail Singh Ji khalsa Bhindranwale.

  40. Sant jarnail singh bhindrewale was a great martyr. He was a martyr of sikh nation and his organization damdami taksal is still doing great work for panth. Many other organizations such as Council of khalistan, dal khalsa , sikh federation of germany ,sikh youth of america have proved to be fake and anti sikh to the core. Sikhs should be aware of these thug organizations who have played a traitorus role and have sided with gurnindaks like kala afghana, Darshan ragi gang who are propped by agencies.

  42. Everyone should know that Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale is Shaheed. That is fact, there is proof from so many sources, pictures, eye witness accounts etc. Why do people think hes alive just coz Baba Thakur Singh Sed he is, i have spoken to many singhs from that era (80/90s) all say that *MOD EDITED* All Guru Ka Sikhs believe in Ardaas as most powerful, so when Bhindranwale did ardaas he would defend Darbar Sahib with his life, do people honestly think he was kidding?? they have doubts over sant jis devotion to sikhi, which im sure is much more then any of ours. Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale Zindabad

  43. When one parents teaches their kid that 1+3=2 and the other parent teaches the kid that 1+1=11. Then there is a problem. Children of interfaith marriages do suffer because their parents that will be teaching them about religion didn't commit to their religion completely (they picked worldly love over God), so how can they give their children religion, which will contradict each other?

  44. I understand what you are trying to say here.. I was living in deep south.. btw amazing ppl deep in south but no sikh in sight for miles and miles away.. I was only teenager sikh going thru transaction from patka to turban and i really felt the need to be around sikhs but that was not the case.. It was only regular sunday of 2 hours service to interact with people of my community. Gurdwara sahib was about 75 miles away from my place.... Having no sikhs around my area was also the reason why i started this discussion forum along with help of two other cyber buddies (Balait_da_sher and Akali) to meet/talk/support fellow sikhs online.. Luckily now imin california and sangat here is amazing..

  45. @ MajorAmarjeetSingh - In this particular instance (the topic in question), I am without sin. I CAN lift my head up high and say I'm not a hypocrite when it comes to these matters.

  46. I think College has taken correct decision by banning kirpans in the College. Just imagine a situation where personal differences are settled in College by Killing or hitting other with the Kirpan or Sword.

  47. I didnot mean this. What if there is a fight in the college for some issue(not on religious issue) and amritdhari sikh just take out his kirpan and hit the guy. Shasters are supposed to be worn by that Sikh who doesnot think about his personal issues but always think about dharmic issues in the presence of guruji without any personal bias. If he cannot do that then he shouldnot wear shasters.

  48. http://www.guardian....ed-with-sorcery Close allies of Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, have been accused of using supernatural powers to further his policies amid an increasingly bitter power struggle between him and the country's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Several people said to be close to the president and his chief of staff, Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, have been arrested in recent days and charged with being "magicians" and invoking djinns (spirits). Ayandeh, an Iranian news website, described one of the arrested men, Abbas Ghaffari, as "a man with special skills in metaphysics and connections with the unknown worlds". The arrests come amid a growing rift between Ahmadinejad and Khamenei which has prompted several MPs to call for the president to be impeached. On Sunday, Ahmadinejad returned to his office after an 11-day walkout in an apparent protest over Khamenei's reinstatement of the intelligence minister, who the president had initiallyasked to resign. Ahmadinejad's unprecedented disobedience prompted harsh criticism from conservatives who warned that he might face the fate of Abdulhassan Banisadr, Iran's first post-revolution president who was impeached and exiled for allegedly attempting to undermine clerical power. Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi, a hardline cleric close to Khamenei, warned that disobeying the supreme leader – who has the ultimate power in Iran – is equivalent to "apostasy from God". Ahmadinejad has so far declined to officially back Khamenei's ruling over Heydar Moslehi, the minister at the centre of the row. In the first cabinet meeting since the president returned, Moslehi was absent. Khamenei's supporters believe that the top-level confrontation stems from the increasing influence of Mashaei, an opponent of greater involvement of clerics in politics, who is being groomed by Ahmadinejad as a possible successor. But the feud has taken a metaphysical turn following the release of an Iranian documentary alleging the imminent return of the Hidden Imam Mahdi – the revered saviour of Shia Islam, whose reappearance is anticipated by believers in a manner comparable to that with which Christian fundamentalists anticipate the second coming of Jesus. Conservative clerics, who say that the Mahdi's return cannot be predicted, have accused a "deviant current" within the president's inner circle, including Mashaei, of being responsible for the film. Ahmadinejad's obsession with the hidden imam is well known. He often refers to him in his speeches and in 2009 said that he had documentary evidence that the US was trying to prevent Mahdi's return. Since Ahmadinejad's return this week, at least 25 people, who are believed to be close to Mashaei, have been arrested. Among them is Abbas Amirifar, head of the government's cultural committee and some journalists of Mashaei's recently launched newspaper, Haft-e-Sobh. On Saturday, Mojtaba Zolnour, Khamenei's deputy representative in the powerful Revolutionary Guard, said: "Today Mashaei is the actual president. Mr Ahmadinejad has held on to a decaying rope by relying on Mashaei."
