  1. I'm thinking of going to Harmandir Sahib tomorrow or the day after by myself on bus but I wanted to check whether i'd be able to get the rooms that are allotted for NRIs without having to bribe the people who deal with handing out rooms or have contacts to call them to give it. Has anyone recently gone to Sachkhand and stayed there, if so please do share your experience and process of obtaining a room there. ty

  6. Sat sri akaal Could anyone inform me why I hear the anand sahib paath very often with the 1st five pauris and the last 40th one. Thereby missing out from number 6 to 39. Why was it done like this?? is it not wise to just not bother with the paath rather than cutting it short? If I started doing the japji like this if time was short surely this would be deemed not correct??

  10. The following is an update of positive goings on in Dudley in relation to Sikhi. The following quotes are taken from "Dudley Sikhs" Facebook page - http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100003392675972 1/2/12: "Had a meeting with the Dudley Gurdwara committee last night. After throwing up unreasonable demand after unreasonable demand the talks were called off. They seem to be putting up obstacles on purpose to slow down the energy of the youth and have no interest in furthering the teachings of our Guru's. Internal politics have ruined the Gurdwara we were brought up in. We have a meeting with the second Dudley Gurdwara on thursday to talk about moving the youth movement there with a rough date of the second week of feb for our first Gurmat Camp there which will have the presence of either Sangat TV or Sikh Channel. We wanted to be peaceful and help turn Dudley Gurdwara around, it is with a heavy heart that we are now going to base our youth group away from the home we were born into." 7/2/12: "After a meeting between Dudley Youth and Guru Tegh Bahadur Gurdwara, Dudley, we have agreed to create a Gurmat Camp during half term, more details will be available over the coming days. This has only been possible thanks to Guru Ji's kirpa and the help and support of our brothers and sisters." Please can all of you try your hardest to come and support this. Especially after the bad press our town and its people were subjected to for events that occurred. We are trying our hardest to make amends for the complacency of ou r community leaders over almost the last two decades, leading to countless members of our community (especially youths) not being given the priceless gift of being educated about Sikhism. 12. Though I hate Sarna Delhi congress agent but i have to give them praise for doing much better service for visitors. Delhi gurdwara Saran/niwas system is very nice and heard same from many different people. My relatives in India who are well connected visits amritsar once in a while and they never able to get any room.. They never use names/safarish for anything. One time late night they didn't get any room and were walking away to make other arrangement.... An old sewadar at the outer gate suggested that Sita Niwas hotel is next door.. They replied in calm manner, guru ramdas jee deh gharoon kad keh, hun sanu Sita niwas bejo. It won't be surprised if these front desk niwas sewadars or sgpc members get paid monthly from local businesses such as Mahan thug 'chatter Singh jivan Singh hotel' and others...

  13. Your definition of manmat and gutmat are wrong go open another thread ask everyone what it is... You are allowing your ignorance of understanding gurmat make you manmat if anything your spreading manmat yourself. Guru maharaj teaches you don't do nindya and you do it again and again that is manmat. Sorry if you think your the only gurmukh and going to heaven while everyone will burn but you are not understanding why? Mate we are not muslims, in which everything is do and don't do like the 10 commandments there are certain things which gurbani doesn't state but it gives you the paths of understandings i.e. the perfect teacher. Gurbani doesn't tell you how to set your alarm clock or how to use your phone, gurbani doesn't tell you to wear nike shoes or check out girls or to subscribe to a certain broadband package. If you say it does your using manmat as you said and not gurmat. We all know it is Sikh rehat maryada to keep kesh, however do you think someone becomes a Sikh in one day? Do you know what sahjadhari means? Sahjadhari is an understanding of someone looking to try and become the full thing one day it is a process of learning and organic growth. If you chase after a sajhadhari saying they are not a sikh they might go to another religion. If you don't love and embrace others how to expect them to become a Sikh. You need to look in the mirror and look at your own flaws before you say this guy ain't sikh they ain't sikh and everyone is doing manmat like muslims shout kaffir kaffir kuffr... You talk like a taliban extremist nutter take a chill pill your a singh read bani and understand it properly. You got a lot of growing up to do. I have told your guru granth sahib doesn't explicity state don't cut your hair but it doesn't mean you can't. You know there is a world beyond binary logic of Yes and No. Absolute logic is one means of thought compared to relative logic. Muslims, jews and christians think and practice in binary logic. An example is 2 + 2= 4 and 2 + 2 does not = 5 only the first is right second is wrong. Relative fuzzy logic 1+ 1= 2 and 1+ 1 = 11 now if you think in binary logic only the first is right. However both statements are right in base 10 the first statement is right and in base 2 (binary) is right. Now with the assumption of base is given, say both are base 1 then both statements are false. Basically not everything is black and white there is a gray region. And for you that does not mean everything is Manmat and Gurmat or Believer and non-believer (kaffir). The muslims are wrong about this one go and tell your friends as well. There is more then right and wrong, what do you do when you have to choose between 2 evils which one is right? These dilemmas come all the time. There are stages between manmat and gurmat it takes time to develop to a gursikh, you need to learn and grow just like the end of japji teaches there are various khands, dharam khand, and the best is sach khand.

  14. I dont think there anything anti-sikh about dancing. Guru's never forbad it to my knowledge. When Sikhs of the past won battles and there was celebrations i'm sure the community danced to express joy. It's a normal human activity, also the Sikhs who practise gatka/shaster vidya do a sort of what can be termed as a dance before using the weapons. I guess its where and how you dance can be of issue, like dancing in inappropriate places or wearing certain religious garbs dont look too good, dancing under the influence of intoxicants is a no-no for a Sikh. And also dancing up real close to someone like you see in dancehall music vids is inappropriate too for a practising Sikh.

  15. ok, so can someone please do this sewa of translation? In Gurbani, you have to look past the actual word, in this case, dancing to see what Guru Ji is telling us. Gupt has given us some basic translation which do not reveal too clearly what Guru Ji ishinting at, but the post by Consciousness has made it clearer of what Guru Ji is teaching us. The bottom line, is that in Kaljug dancing is not the gaddi-rah to Waheguru, Naam Simran is.

  16. Dalbir singh Ji is spot on. maaeiaa mohu eis manehi nachaaeae anthar kapatt dhukh paavaniaa |4| The love of Maya makes this mind dance, and the deceit within makes people suffer in pain. ||4|| When one is ignorant and thinks they are separate then the mind is inflicted by illusion (maya - hence the mind dancing). The ego believes it has separate thoughts and because of this individuality it has wants, desires, 5 thieves. This separateness causes people to suffer as the above tuk mentions. bhagath karehi moorakh aap janaavehi |The fools perform devotional worship by showing off When one thinks 'THEY' are doing devotional worship (bhagti) then only Good Karma is established. However if one wants to be obtain sachkand (liberation) then it is only he who does bhagti. Also some take it a step further and wear bana, hold a mala, sit cross legged for hours to show they are performing devotional worship. When in fact eventually they get up from bhagti and affiliate themselves with maya again (we are all aware of this happening.) - They are fools. Also whilst doing their pakhand they are: maaeiaa mohu eis manehi nachaaeae anthar kapatt dhukh paavaniaa. Sitting cross legged their mind is wondering due to The love of Maya makes this mind dance, and the deceit within makes people suffer in pain. nach nach ttapehi bahuth dhukh paavehi | they dance and dance and jump all around, but they only suffer in terrible pain. nachiai ttapiai bhagath n hoe | By dancing and jumping, devotional worship is not performed. Dancing here doesn't just mean actual dancing. Because like the previous tuks if one's mind is dancing in the love of maya then he/she is blind and all their actions including walking/talking/sleeping/dancing are done in Ego. When one is dictated by ego then they will suffer in pain - due to the ups and downs of life and how can their be TRUE devotional worship... sabadh marai bhagath paaeae jan soe |3| But one who dies in the Word of the Shabad, obtains devotional worship. ||3|| poorae thaal jaanai saalaah |Know that the perfect beat is the Praise of the Lord; ^Beautiful here you see one must die to the shabad. Now guru jee shows what true devotional worship is. Dying is of the ego (doership) and then true devotional worship can be done - otherwise karma will not cease to exist. So how can karma cease to exist when one sees God everywhere.. then all one can say is tuhi tuhi tuhi. wah wah. hor nachanaa khuseeaa man maah |1| rehaao | other dances produce only temporary pleasure in the mind. ||1||Pause|| guramukh bhagath jugath sach soe | For the Gurmukh, loving devotional worship is the way to the True Lord. Other dances are false practices that induce doership and anything where the mind get's temporary pleasure. If the pleasure does not last then it is false. Loving devotion as applied above for the gurmukh is giving all your ego to guru sahib. paakhandd bhagath nirath dhukh hoe |3| But the dances and the worship of the hypocrites bring only pain. ||3||nach nach hasehi chalehi sae roe | Those who dance and dance and laugh, shall weep on their ultimate departure. Hyocrites are the ones I mentioned above - Fools. Pain is always going to be there if ego remains. So one Can dance, do work, play sports if the ego is dropped - then every act one does is all God's- it's him playing him dancing, him working. But ones who dance, talk and sleep etc with ego shall weep on their ultimate departure. I hope this has helped :biggrin2:

Couple of suggestions though - could you make the font easier to read in the PDF (maybe different font) & maybe also have the article on your website as actual text rather than a PDF. Thanks again.

  22. No matter how stupid udhoke might have been we have agree that the work done on rss is absolutley brilliant. he's an eloquent speaker spoke about Dasm Granth only last week on the sikh channel - his response was that like the rehat maryada which took 15-18 years to establish there should be a proper debate on Dasm Granth with research- professionally - there is nothing wrong with this statement. singhfauja states above: "He has used the research on RSS done by other GurSikhs and unilaterally published the material and taken credit for everything himself." well he came to my hometown and didnt want no credit and actually told people to stop givinig him money while he was speaking on stage and was crystal clear that was not his motive. read his 6 books - all eye opener - but you need time and patience which a lot of these interenet warriors haven't got at all and johnny mentions above: Dr Udoke is like those Khalistani uncles in the west who have been influenced by the Kala Afghanis and have gone away from the Khalistan movement of Sant Bhindranwalay and the Shaheeds to the heretics side. not at all mate you've got it all wrong if that is the case how comes he's bringing on a prograamme on the sikh channel soon on "the lost Generals". you guys are totally twisted, what kind of work have you done to promote sikhe - "kesayy nooo baksh vee deyaa karoo mundiooo "

  25. That's interesting. I know from my own family and from other people's family that 2 generations back (grand parents) Sikhs had a pretty healthy birth rate. Because of the positive birthrate of the Sikhs, Master Tara Singh was confident that the Sikhs would eventually form the majority of Punjab(at the time Punjab also included Haryana, Himachal, Chandigarh). Then came the baby boomer generation in which Sikhs began having a very low birth rate and Sikh growth lost it's momentum. All the subsequent generations have just followed the bad example set by the baby boomer generation. After 1984 Sikh leaders had even announced at the Akal Takht that Sikh families should have 5 children even though that was not followed by most but still Sikh population did increase it's percentage in the overall population of Punjab despite the blood bath Sikhs endured during the 80 and early 90s and the migration to Canada/America during those years. But it has decreased now again. Sikhs need to start thinking about family and children again. Studies have shown that larger families tend to be more religious and less selfish. I'm not saying people should have 9 children but a minimum of 3+ children average should be must. That is above replacement level and will also insure growth for the community. And please PM me your info.

  26. VJKKVJKF Jee According to Sikhi, do the pros of Facebook outweigh the cons? i.e. You might be inspired by a shabad that somebody has just posted - good. You might get caught up in a life-wasting useless conversation - bad It's a brilliant way of knowing what's happening if something ever kicks off (part of being tyaar bar tyaar I would think) - good You might accidentally read/see something wrong that somebody has posted. - bad There are many more pros as well as cons I can think about, but I'm not sure which of there are more. Because some people may use it purely for the good things, but there's a possibility of getting involved with the bad. Does Facebook have a significant negative/positive effect on youth today? Personally, I wish Facebook was never created! But every time I go to deactivate my account, I think of all the positive things that make me want to keep it because they are very helpful things.... I would really like sangath's opinions... VJKKVJKF Jee

  28. The Jews may be powerful when we measure material wealth and political clout but how close are they to realising god. They've been through an horrible ordeal but how much humanity do they show to towards their neighbours in Palestine. From being the prey they have become the predators illegally occupying Palestinian lands. Why should we aspire to be like Jews! I doubt if Sikhs during 16th century were aspiring to be like Mughals. We should aspire to be like our forefathers and we should create our own destiny not look for blue prints set out by communities who have nothing in common with us regarding ideology or morals.

  35. Keeping kesh is a responsibility as an Amritdhari. Not everyone is willing to accept the sacrifice. Agree that biggest problem/barrier is the Western lifestyle - portrayed in magazines, films, TV etc. Second biggest problem is lack of education - from parents, from Gurdwaras, from fellow Sikhs. Yet do not look down on those who have cut their hair but still choose to matha tek to the Guru. They may not be Amritdhari, but they are still souls who have remained within the broad fold of Sikhi.

  39. The problem you have is not your outside but your inside. People will always say things but you need to make yourself happy in life, go gym train hard get big muscles. You can't make everyone happy in the world at least make yourself happy. People will always criticise people for things if not kesh, or dastar, then your skin colour, shape of your nose, your stomach (to thin to fat), your height, your ears, your eyes. Look at all the people doing plastic surgery the people in the media are mad, bonkers keep changing outside. But what you are is the person in the inside change that first, to be more caring and compassionate. If you want to be happy serve and uplift other people around you when you see others smile you will smile. Kesh is a spirtual practice to know the closeness of your guru as the guru and sikh are one.. you and god are one and the same. Sikhi is gifted after 100 janams of bhagati it is a blessing you are a blessing as is you deserve your own love in the whole world you deserve to love yourself so have some self esteem. Loads of people have a problem with themselves and take it out on other people, so what if people look at you funny or say things forget them and live your life.

  40. Well the religious justification is we can trace the kesh maryada to guru gobind singh so some consider guru ji also had followers from other religions who did cut their hair. (however our history says gurus forbid cutting kesh even the rig veda says a full human is one who doesn't cut hair as the yogis, sadhus do). Also Guru Granth Sahib does not explicity forbid not cutting hair. We live in a majority abrahamic world christianity, judaism and islam abraham gave the order to trim hair, however also said keep it long with a beard however right now fashion is trimming it. Abraham expressed it as a duty to cut hair, so we live with a different tradition who imposes it's values on the majority, just like eating meat. So the argument is which is older and so forth. In many ways our failure to read the ancient indian traditions and our own to preserve our knowledge we can't quote rehats ourself. A sikh is a learner and a learner can be on several stages so they follow on to a certain level and some people are not ready to keep kesh. Others don't see the purpose for kesh. While some born into the sikh tradition might become athiests or another religion for others they like sikhi more then they follow some pieces of it and ommit others just like some are not read to keep a kirpan some won't keep kesh or others are not ready for amrit or not ready to wake up amrit vela or keep a kangha or kachera. Some are not ready to do nitnem. With the same logic for gurus giving kurbani we should wake up amrit vela do nitnem, not do nindya or chuglia and not gaze at the opposite gender lustfully or lie or cheat or steal or hurt others be pooran gursikhs. Well guru do kirpa, if we are rude to those who cut kesh they might leave to another religion or marry into another. We should be tolerant to everyone.

  41. The bold is a contradictory statements because no Sikh ever danced after becoming a Gursikh. Tell them dance is something that indulges a person into worldly attachments and takes a person further away from Gurmat. Sikhs don't have the desire to dance, as they attain their desires from Gurbani and Sikhs dance is to stay learn how to use weapons and learn how to defend yourself and others. Which Guru Sahib says is the correct dance of life.

  43. Waheguruji Ka khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh, By the Gurus Grace, I am going to start the translation of Books and kathas of Panth Ratan Gyani Sant Singh Ji Maskeen. My English is worst. But still there is an inner desire in me to do some this kind of work. so i Choose it. This is the very first chapter of Gyani ji's Book "Prabhu Simran". Kindly give it some time and suggest me am I able to translate? I will translate further only if you find the translation worth reading. 1.Remembering God Every Saint of this universe said that Simran is a base to reach the Almighty. If we love someone, and influenced by him then only we can remember ( Simran) him. God is invisible. We have no knowledge of Him, and whom we don’t have knowledge; it is very difficult to influenced by him. The eyes sees form, the Mann (Mind) is influenced by the form and the ears accept the influence by hearing the music. When the tongue fills with the flavor (Ras), then the Mann (Mind) is influenced by the Food. The Mann (Mind) is also influenced by the smell of the nose and feel of the skin. By which thing this Mann (Mind) is influenced then this Mann (mind) asks the thing again and again. The Mann (Mind) longs for it, and this very longing become the remembrance (Simran). If keep remembering somebody, then our relation sustains and if we forget somebody then it will result in the end of the every relation. So Simran (remembering) is meeting, and forgetting is farewell. Because the Almighty is invisible, He is beyond our senses and intellect, that is why the Mann (Mind) doesn’t ask for it, and it forgets the Almighty. This is the result of the Satsangat (meeting with holy people) that we get the divine wisdom, we know His virtues, we feel Him as our own loved ones, and He looks sweet. Then the Simran(remembering) start in our Mann(Mind) without any attempt. ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਨ ਸੋਵਤ ਜਾਗੇ ॥ Saadhhasang Man Sovath Jaagae || साधसंगि मन सोवत जागे ॥ In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the sleeping mind awakens. Then, O Nanak, God seems sweet. ||4||12||63|| 18 ਆਸਾ (ਮ: ੫) ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ : ਅੰਗ ੩੮੬ ਪੰ. ੧੮ Raag Asa Guru Arjan Dev We should try to understand the Almighty By doing katha (discussion on Gurbani) and Kirtan (Singing the Gurbani) in the Satsangat. 45. lol... i'm an amritdhari girl. i wear shorts to swim in. i'm wearing a skirt today. who cares if my legs are hairy. that's how God made me. if society thinks hairy legs are uncool... to bad for them. i'm not out to impress society. in fact, i think their idea of beauty (a woman with no hair on her body- like a child) are disgusting. don't let leg hair stop you from getting great exercise and having fun! show your leg hair with pride, bhenji. it's very liberating! :D

  46. tie it into your keski. for girls, wear shorts that will cover your kachhera and a modest swim top. it's totally possible (and fun) to go swimming, even as an amritdhari. i'd actually encourage everyone to know how to swim. it's a skill that could save someone's life someday.
