  4. While discussing who did the most damage to sikhism is its good but discussing it without any solutions makes us weak and bunch of cry babies. We need to stop playing an victim role and move on to do our part. The faith which was born out of sharpness of sword, the hardship its a given and told when you take amrit.. i m not suggesting that its fate and we should just suck it up ..No...but given iron fist response in form of political activism and other ways - within international legal frame work. Nothing has changed, it's same sun, same moon which was there in guru's time, we have same amount of malech back then and same amount of malech now. Nothing has changed, only thing has changed lack of chardi-kalah in singhs now compare to before. We must keep staying in chardi-kalah, keep doing naam abhayas, doing seva. There are plenty of things we can do pro-actively instead of keep citing who our enemies are? I am sure there are lot of them, but we just sit there and don't become pro-active then we ourselves would be our lethal enemies and by contrast by far worst than any external enemies. I mentioned the points below in other vaishaki nagar kirtan in canada, I am sure there are lot we can do but here are some of them for starters: - First and foremost priority we need to focus parchar(both punjabi and english) in gurdwaras for our young generation- parchar of bhagti, shakti and activism, instead of protesting infront of corporate type gov't. We need to work on internal unity first - bring all the brains together and be on the same page thats a must..just compare sikh activism now days with tibetan activism or other oppressed miniority groups , you will see big gap. We lack any organization structure abroad. - Second thing which we already doing which is great- youtube awareness of human right abuses against sikhs (full credit goes to sikh youth for this one). We need to keep continuing doing this, capitalize on it - member of ss bought very interesting idea of renaming all the human right abuses against sikhs in india to "Indian Tourism" and re-upload them on youtube so it comes up under search results. Not only youtube, lets go further keep capitalizing on manipulating google search results by renaming your blog or already established well known website, name your personal blogs to indian tourism showing human right abuses in hope to win public opinion. - Third - Study, Study and more study other minorities group who are systematic marginalize/oppressed across the globe - what they have done, what bought maximum impact (changing public opnion/change on oppressed gov't policies), what clearly failed - As i said earlier, its smart to learn from your mistakes but its wise to learn from other people mistakes. - Fourth- As Sikh community, donate and lobby as whole platform of Wikileaks, this is quite important, they already have base and have genuine aim to expose human right abuses all over globe including sikhs. Fifth - Have Public relations/Media relations department both in punjab and abroad appointed by sri akaal takth sahib to realease statement for damage control and condemnation of anything which is against sikh ideals i.e- collateral damage, fascist speech etc Sixth- Urgue Sri Akaal Takth Sahib to have its own channel and have influence in media (very important) Seventh- Be proficient in online political war/cyber journalism - did you know cyber protest/online political activism turned to be more effective than holding placards in some segregated area near embassy or gov't building? Eight - Get high influential people i.e- hollywood stars/ex politician to support our cause (just see how many hits human rights abuse in sudan nuba mountains got on google after george clooney arrest in sudan embassy in washigton). Nine- Infiltrate fascist shiv sena groups which teaches hatred in india and abroad hindu rss/shiv shena type student society which teaches hatred. If they can do it, why can't we as long as its within law and no privacy laws are broken? - May be i m watching too many spy movies..lol.. i don't know if they can do it seamlessly and why can't our monae brothers? (Recently came across sikh spy/ punjab police whistle blower who was able to inflitrate- Sardar Aridaman Jit Singh, click on the link below for his interview - http://www.sikhsangat.com/Index.php?/topic/66446-punjab-fake-encounters-inteview-how-punjab-police-works-must-watch/ ) Tenth- Learn Shastar vidya (get off your arse from computer chair - it applies to me first) not only to defend mob attacks happening against us. This also to preserve the art. Eleventh- Build relationship with your country First nation people/aboriginals worldwide...let normal public see sikhs suitation through native suitation, best way of relating and winning public opinion abroad...again this is not to please European settlers but normal public, we should also approach other minorities in canada who are oppressed- all have common greif and common goal to stop human right abuses at home. Twelfth- Whatever you do , stay within law of country you live, don't break the law. We don't live in monarch society where laws are not defined, laws are clearly defined in today's society- stay within law, legal frame work

  5. A guy can be spiked/raped/blackmailed. Muslim girls are just involved in the conversions as the muslim guys. Don't be fooled to think rape/drink spiking/blackmail only can happen to a girl. I get that a familyz issat is on the girls head. But these things can/have happened to guys too. If our guys focused more on strengthening relations with their sisters than pub/club most of this would be avoided as girl wouldn't seek attention outside the family home&guy wouldn't waste valuable time in a club/pub instead hed use that time to bond with his sister.

  11. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh For some time Bhai Sahib has written many letters, some were direct to 'Panthic' leaders and questioning their role in the movement and their conduct. Our senior leaders were tight lipped, however certain letters written by Bhai Sahib eg the famous 'neelian paga' were a field day for many senior leaders, they were loving it on Sikh channel and Sangat TV, all well and good, but I thought our leaders were more politically astute, because now it seems to be their turn, a Babbar leader has been targeted why are not the wing of that group in the UK not talking about this letter, Sardar Simranjit Singh Mann has been targeted, why have not his supporters talked about this letter, Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu and the Panthic Morcha which YES - did fight SGPC elections with the Congress, why are his (BDSBittu) and Panthic Morcha Supporters many of whom are our Sikh Federation UK members, why are they all silent on this letter. Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu (PANCH PARDHANI) Khalsa Action Committee, Dal Khalsa - under the umbrella group Panthic Morchga, all stood shoulder to shoulder with Congress - that is seconded by Rajoana Sahib !! If we are claiming that Bhai Rajoana is Jathedar then why are we picking and choosing his letters - or is Bhai Sahib also now just another Jathedar - like the Akal Takht Jathedar - that when it suits us - yup he is ok - and when it doesn't - lets just stay silent - as is happening now with Rajoana Sahib letters - his letters are his utterances. Either we are with the people he has named - or we are with the 'Jathedar', the title we have thrust upon him - he has accepted the title of Living Martyr - and we have not even the decency to accept his wishes, and we dont have the guts to say yup Living Martyr Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana we are with you and if you (Bhai Sahib) say these guys are not who they seem then yeah we are with you- he has cleared the 'neelian paga' issue in this letter (14/4/2012) also. He is Living Martyr Bhai Balwant Singh Rajona - not Jathedar This is why Papidas - things have gone silent - our senior leaders dont want to know now Their argument will be we already have quam issue regarding ekta - so lets not talk about these letters However they were OK to talk about 'neelian paaga' - and forget then about ekta Our senior Leaders said 'Rajoana teri soch te -pera dyiange tok ke' - well why dont they now!!! For those who may reply saying 'freedom11' sounds like Badal supporter - GET A LIFE !

  12. well there are always two sides to a topic. @onlyfive, how can one say what a person is like inside. Nobody can see inside the person, and would either need to be god or a brahmgiani in order to do that. I'm not putting all amritdharis down, before somebody says i've written wrong. I have full respect for amritdharis, but I have also experienced that what you have experienced with moneh people. Because they took amrit did not mean they are nice people from inside. One can only be nice and clean from inside if they practise the rehat maryada after taking amrit and that does not mean just what somebody looks like on the outside. One's heart needs to be pure too. I know some amritdharis that in public were are all show and know it alls, whereas at home, they are very dirty people, no hygiene or cleanliness and as people are nasty. One cannot judge somebody just because they have took amrit. I understand what you are saying, but I dont feel its wrong morally if a mona serves langar or prepares it. To me its all about the cleaniness and hygiene that is used. If somebody is drunk or smoking or not had a shower then I feel it is wrong. I have also seen amritdharis talk over langar. So its not just one sided opnions. And if it is so wrong then why do the gurdwaras let moneh prepare langar and serve langar? Why do gurdwaras let them hold akhand paths? And why do amritdhari sikhs also eat the same langar that the monehs have prepared? And why do they also get served by moneh people? At this week's nagar kirtan, there were amritdharis and moneh doing seva in the langar hall, I being one of them, and also granthis. Who all ate the same food, all worked alongside each other. Then how come I never got thrown out of the kitchen if its so wrong? I also had an amritdhari aunty visit me at the weekend, who not once moaned or hesitated to have her roti be made by me, or be served food, as she knows I'm not going to give her anything that she cannot eat, and she also knows that i will give it to her with care, with clean hands. Monehs are not stupid nor neither children, that if they are going to do seva, obviously they will be very cautious and be apply the utmost hygiene when preparing langar. They know they are not at home, and the ones that u have seen applys to the same group of amritdharis I have seen. Not everybody is the same, just because we see a minority doing something wrong. Although I do understand what you are saying as an amritdhari sikh will have more knowledge of the care and sucham that is required for maharaj ji as they would have apply in their daily lives. But I also know a lot of moneh that are aware of the respect that is required when preparing and serving langar at the gurdwara or whether at home.

  15. Sikhs guys shouldn't be going to clubs either. Fair is fair. The arguments about rape, spiking of drinks, etc., for females is all well and good but if guys set an example maybe these shenanigans might not occur? Probably wishful thinking on my part. Although I've heard of some guys saying "We only go to keep an eye on our girls so they don't get involved in anything dodgy". Yeah right. :biggrin2:

  17. I think this video highlights how Punjab police's whole ethos and development is still in a time warp from the time of the British Raj and has not moved on with the times, hence their institutionalised attitude of trying to oppress and subjugate the public. We should be campaigning for reforms and modernisation in the Punjab Police.

  22. Sant Bhindranwale was never a Khalistani, he was made into one , as were majority of Khalistanis after bluestar. In our history we have had very very powerful external enemies, but we have survived as the sikhs were dedicated to sikhi. Now as our dedication decreases, powerful enemies seem unbeatable. why the decline in sikhi? no 1 reason, Gurdwaras have lost thier way, and lost the plot, of whatthey are axtually there for.

  23. ok veer ji, but the current issue in Darbar Sahib will not last. It will change in the future, a lot will change. Singhs who do possess hidden ego of inequality will regret it in the future and will become humbled due to seeing the power of singhnia. Guru Sahib will give Singhnia high honour in the future, which will be for those Singhnia who have high respect and love for Guru Sahib through immense Naam and Gurbani Abhiyaas. Regarding an elders opinion, elders/youngster Gursikh talk a lot about their own false views from lacking a Bhramgyan Bibek Budh. Any view I hear which does not show equality for Singhnia is wrong.
    1 point
  24. Ek0sikh and PAL07- You both should be ashamed of yourself to proudly make such a lowly statement about singhnia. Any singhni is allowed to take part in an Akhand Paath. There is nothing amazing about Singhs over Singhnia regardless of what a rehit may state. If you want to make such ridiculous sexist statements then become a Muslim. This type of thinking is manmat, even if this comes from a Gursikh, it doesnt make it true. Vaheguru is impartial and looks upon everyone equally. Gurbani calls both men and women on earth as soul-BRIDES. Also, Guru Gobind Singh jee states Khalsa mero roop hai khaas -both genders can become a Khalsa. Both genders can become equally as honourable and take part in panj seva, akhand paaths etc.

  25. Aside from external forces I'd say we are the biggest cause of our own misery on a micro level. We tend to gravitate towards making the wrong decisions time-after-time. You could argue that if we were resolute in our adherence to the faith, problems like drugs, the dera culture, basically anything or anyone who is clearly not good for Sikh interests should have been ignored and ostracised. But we don't do that.

  28. Not sure if this is the right thread for this, or whether I should have started a new thread, but after watching Sangat TV's brilliant broadcast from Ranjeet Singh's house and shaheed Jaspal singh's house yesterday...I think we all need to be aware of things that are hapening. Firstly, let me start by saying how pleased I was to see how the entire household of Ranjeet Singh became Amritdhari on the day of Jaspal Singh's funeral, and how the kind hearted Sikhs from around the world have been raising so much much needed money for them. Shaheed Jaspal Singh's family, who are in a stronger financial position that Ranjeet Singh, have also been doing their best to look after Ranjeet Singh's family. During the interview with Shaheed Jaspal Singh's family they did reveal something very important. They said they are extremely worried about Ranjeet Singh....They feel is life is in danger. They said sinister people from the govt and police have regularly been visiting Ranjeet Singh's home trying to force him to change his story....i.e say it wasn't the police that shot him. It was clear from what Jaspal Singh's family were saying that the police want Ranjeet Singh dead. He is a liability to them alive. After seeing his wounds yesterday, its clear to me that the boy should not even have been sent home. He should still be in hospital because he's in a bad way. So I'm thinking, isn't there some sort of way that some Sikh organisation in the UK could convince the authorities to let this boy into the country for treatment ? His life is clearly in danger and he is in desparate need of proper medical care. On the more positive side, how wonderful it was to hear from Ranjeet Singh, the story behind that photograph that haunted us all....the one with him bleeding to death on the rickshaw. After being shot, bleeding to death, the policemen came up to him and continued to beat him with their sticks. Nobody came to help him except that poor lowly rickshaw driver. That poor labourer, picked him up, put him in his rickshaw and rode him to hospital. Sangat TV....Sikh Channel....Please find that man. I really want to get a closer look at the face behind that wonderfull warm-hearted soul.

If you don't mind me saying, that amazing feeling you are having will only grow the more your adhere to nitnem and keep Sikhi Sangat. When you strive to be a good ambassador for Sikhs to honour your Dastaar/turban, that is when you really start to become successful in all areas of life! Sikhi is an amazing way of life, it benefits both the Sikh, and those around the Sikh - Sarbat da bhala !!

  30. You should visit the Gupt section once in a while. Some amritdharis asking about where to obtain motivation to wake up at amritvela, cease the act of....self-pleasure, etc. Its not as easy as some think. For some its a constant challenge, especially for youngsters who may have taken amrit but were not emotionally mature enough to fully understand the huge responsibility it entails.

  31. No, outer rehat is not the most difficult, the amritdhari may perhaps find that slander that may come with it is very difficult to overcome, but there is nothing difficult about keeping outer rehat. And in fact, some who keep outer rehat do not even bother about keeping inner rehat as I'm sure you well know- they're living too comfortable thinking they've got it on lockdown just by donning the amritdhari dress, waking up at amritvela and keeping away from meat, alcohol etc(all Easy as pie). With inner rehat comes challenges that the bhagat never saw coming, the tests that lead one into moments of deep depression, into hell realms, at times slandered continuously- the bhagat begins to see, feel, smell and taste the filth all around, until they become psychologically sound by recognising it is only Him everywhere, in the at times bordering on unbearable pain as well as the pleasure. The world as we know it becomes a completely different place, the demons are rife everywhere(human beings with a hellish psychology who cause this age to be Kalyug)- these tests are the most difficult to pass, of loving all equally no matter what, of accepting His hukam no matter how bad it gets.. The Gurus children were killed, two young ones were tortured- yet he accepted this as sweet hukam, as it was all God himself- this is the kind of great great psychology that the bhagat must adopt to destroy the thieves- how can this even be comparable to outer rehat?
    1 point
  32. I wouldn't say "easy". Initially when starting out on the path, outer rehat is THE most difficult hurdle to overcome. But, as you suggested, when the outer rehat has been mastered and you really get into the flow of things, the constant battle with your innerself to be the best Sikh you can possibly be is the true test. That really does separate the men from the boys.

  33. this is what gives Sikhs a bad name and the world laugh at the hypocrisy we create for ourselves. No wonder we have so many threads about punjabi girls converting islam going out with muslims and not with singhs, etc, etc.At least they clearly state the role of their women. We claim our Guru's said one thing, yet we are spreading something else. I feel so sorry for our Sikhi Sisters, many of whom have much higher jeevan than singhs and do more paath and simran and have more love for our Guru only to be told by some fat, back-ward minded singh what she can and cant do. We need to forget arguing about punjab politics, indian government etc and just sort out our own dumb brothers.

  34. Why, pray tell, are women not allowed to do Paath? I always thought that, you know, Starting with Guru Nanak that men and women were equal. But since you personally disagree with this, I guess they were wrong and you are right. Good job.

  35. So true. A lot of Sikhs i have heard say bad things about rehat, like it makes us worse or something, as if its a weight around our necks. Guru knows our shortcomings, but we should never say or think bad about rehat, just becasue we find it hard to aspire to them.

  42. Excellent thread. I agree with the majority of the suggestions you've made. I will try not to duplicate what you have suggested. Here are some of my thoughts for the future. 1. Regular weekly English Katha on sunday's at all UK gurdwaras. 2.Every gurdwara should have a feedback mechanism where sangat can provide feedback on current services, services which they would like the gurdwara to provide and ideas for improvement. 3. Support groups for- single parents/widows/divorcees. alcoholics/drug users. 4. Improved use of media- facebook, youtube, email, text message, gurdwara website, 5. education- weekly sikh classes, gatka, kirtan, santhiya, free sikh education books to families to learn about sikhi and for parents to teach their kids the basics. 6. Panj kakkars and gutkas should be freely available to sangat 7. cresh/child care facilities 8. support wider non sikh community- homeless 9. gurdwaras should start purchasing farmland to produce their own food requirements, milk, surplus can be sold for income 10. Each city should create a local council of gurdwaras where represantitives meet regularly to discuss local issues, and work together to promote sikhi. perhaps sikh council could organise this. 11.promote healthy lifestyles- Healthy langar, less butter in dhaal/sabji. gym. 12. university scholarships for intellectual gursikhs whom cant afford to go to university to study top degrees 13.Teach all gyanis English, CRB checks on them, purchase accommodation locally for them, Should receive at least minimum wage. Incentive to learn English- bonus/pay rise? Also need to raise caliber and qaulity 14. more bibiya and youth in committees 15.weekly/monthly "challenges" for sangat eg amritvela for 1 month, stop alcohol for 1 month etc. if they know others are doing this they can help each other to persist with it
