  1. I have seen this posted around and discussed and a lot of people are "outraged"!!! But... is the local Hindu community hiring the hall out to practice their religious Pooja/rituals? If so, what is the problem? Its not as if Sikhs have to enter the hall whilst it is happening and its not in the Gurdwara itself!? Are we becoming too intolerant that we now cant even handle other faiths using our community halls for occasional religious events? Yes their form of worship is seen as against the principles of Sikhism but for example Guru Hargobind Ji allocated an area for muslims to pray in Hargobindpur and so Guru Ji is okey with it and facilitated a permanent structure being built for other faiths to pray why cant we allow access to temporary facilities?! . Just my opinion though.

  3. singher23, What a beautifully honest post. You care for your father. You don't have to accept his views or actions, however you should continue to care for your father and accept him and support him. There is nothing wrong with your relationship with him changing and evolving over time. There is nothing wrong with you being honest with him about your feelings even if you have been limited in going down that path with him. Only share your feelings if you can do it with respect and acceptance. Get yourself to that point. It is the most difficult thing to go outside of our comfort zone, but that is when we grow. You are a young man. Your father sees that in you. Part of him may be searching to be centered by things most important to him. You need to follow your own convictions but it is not your job or any of our jobs to perfect our family. That can be a painful realization, but if we accept that first, then we can live our lives such that we might influence them in some positive manner as sevadar01 has put so well. If you are able to get over the pain in time, don't hesitate to genuinely try to learn from him as he is your father. A student seeking truth is the most powerful teacher.

  4. Yes, they are part of sikh community however i would not have them represent sikhs in general. They have their own set of problems going on just like in many of our jathabandi. Their post-harbhajan yogi era is on a very slippery slope and i hope they recover and keep with panth. Our biggest enemy is our own mind, lets talk about that

  18. Thank you to all who have replied and sent me PM's. I have been doing loads of paat and that has calmed me down immensely, and hopefully soon I will be able to give my father a call or visit him and tell him the truth about how I feel about this. But he has to follow his own path in the end and who knows which way that goes. It's all Maharaaj's hukam in the end

I am sure admin can fix that but generally speaking- learn to ignore this things or even better use it as a test see where you state of mind at ? see if it invokes funky feeling inside or feeling of bairaag and mithiya? its better to face your fears head on than shoving them under carpet..more you keep shoving them under carpet, more stronger they will get and repressive and one day it will revolt back ugly...speaking from experience :sad2: .!!!!!!

  23. So Congress Party wants to amend the act from 1971. They want direct elections and the position of president to be for 4 years instead of 2. Badal Akali Dal oppose this. I don't think the Indian government should interfere in Sikh internal affairs. I haven't figured out why Congress is doing this. I know there is some hidden motive behind it, but I'm not sure. Why else would they care about who runs Sikh gurdwaras? My guess is that Congress Party wants influence over DSGPC, the same way that Akalis have influence over SGPC. Anybody got an idea?

  24. Why do people pick on 3ho so much? Do akj ask if nihangs are friends or enemies? Do taksalis ask if nanaksar Sikhs are friends or enemies? All jathas have different opinions on sooooo many subjects, but we just agree to disagree and carry on... But for some reason we have this issue with always bashing the 3ho...why pick and choose who we call enemies and who we call friends when everyone is following Sikhi differently then their fellow Sikh brothers and sisters? Live and let live

  25. Iroc, How do you know they don't get up at amrit-vela and do simran? were you there? The reason i feel strongly about this whole 3ho saga because i have seen their dedication with my eyes- they dress up in bana while we adapted ferengi lifestyle, they get up at amrit vela and do sadhana while our missionary brothers have attitude- mind has to be clean only with seva not naam simran. 3HO are most mis-understood group out there and its just not fair..piece of suggestion- try to look for common ground and bridge/unity than dividing on differences...There is a unity within diversity..isn't what most senior gurmukhs from walks of life did- have we forgotten mutual respect shown by bhai fauja singh akj and 3ho in his letter back and forth? have we forgotten baba nihal singh mutual respect with 3ho? have we forgotten mutual respect shown by sant jarnail singh bhindranwale? No one can shove shariat in anyone's throat. It comes automatically with understanding..in cyber space people already tried shoving shariat in people's throat, look what happened..classic example- harjas kaur khalsa who got soo tired of listening and engaging in right wing parchar- she revolted went totally left wing. Now she posts on rss forums..!! Look all i m saying- these 3ho singh and singhani's need sense of direction but who's does not need it? unless one is true khalsa(bhramgyani), lets not demonize and de-moralize them, may be help them while engaging with them..they have left all their friends/families for sikhi...and irony is - their family members call them they are following the cult(sikhi) and here punjabi sikhs following same mindset and accuse of being in a cult..they are being demonized from both sides..!!

  26. WJKK WJKF veer ji, I used to never get along with my dad as he used to be a very heavy drinker, even to the point where he was drinking during the week and even at work. I was so happy to go away to Uni because it meant being away from him. My mum similar to yours was quite religious so she used to be my support. My dad always used to be againt me growing my Dhara which i had thought of doing on a few occassions but never really went through with it because of his disapproval. Anyways to cut a long story short the best way to win someone over is by leading a lifestyle that would inspire the other person to look at you and think i was that (Gursikhi) lifestyle. One day Maharaj done so much kirpa i just thought enough is enough, I came into sikhi Siroop and changed everything (The way i speak, eat, things i watch and listen to). Time went on and Maharaj kirpa my dad himself looked at me and felt ashamed himself. Without me arguing or even saying anything to him he started to change himself. Now he has been clean from drink for 3 years, stopped eating meat and is even frowing his dhara... WAHEGURU !!!! So all in all what i am trying to say is the best way to help change someone is to change yourself and set an example through your own actions !!!! ... Maharaj will definetly answer your Ardas !!! Bhul Chuk Maaf Khalsa Ji !!!! Waheguru !!!!!!!

  29. Why did Avjit Singh kill Sargun Ragi???? Recently there has been news all around about the death of Avjit Singh and Sargun Ragi. All news headlines on the basis of court reports have portrayed Avjit Singh in a negative manner. However what was the story behind Avjit Singh’s mind and why he did that. Avjit Singh had been living in Australia for more than seven years now. Among his friends circle, he was known as a very jolly, honest, peaceful and innocent person. He was also known to be very kind at heart and was always willing to help people in need. His life turned by 180 degrees after his marriage with Sargun Ragi in mid 2011. Soon after hismarriage, it was found that she had extra-marital affairs in India only. Even Sargun’s parents were not happy with her character; however she pleaded guilty before her husband when it was discovered that she didn’t possess good character. She made promises to her innocent husband that she will not bring anyone else anymore in her life and also took oaths on the name of God. Avjit and his family trusted her and thought that she might change after reaching Australia. But none of them knew that she was playing bogus games with them. Anyways she came to Australia and started living with her husband. One day her husband came back from work earlier and he found his wife in an objectionable condition with one of his friends at his own home. In a shocking, angry and embarrassing condition, Avjit Singh did slap and beat her wife. However once again her wife pleaded guilty before him and told him that she won’t repeat it and she herself asked Avjit Singh to lock her in the house and take keys with himself and she will stay all day at home. Avjit Singh gave her another chance in the hope of survival of his married relation. But his hopes shattered within a week only when one day he came back from work and found her wife missing in the home. He immediately called his friend in Canberra to seek his advice for next steps who advised him to report to the police about this. He went to the nearby police station and then found that she was actually in the neighbour’s home and she instead reported that Avjit Singh had locked her and wasn’t treating her well. Everyone knows that in any country, it’s usually woman, who is heard and the same happened with Avjit Singh. His wife got intervention orders from court and she was permitted to live in the house alone while Avjit Singh will need to leave the place. After leaving the home, soon Avjit Singh found that Sargun was not even living in that home anymore and was instead living with his next door neighbour with whom she had maintained relations as well. Avjit Singh went back to court and asked for permission to stay in that home as his wife was not living there any more so that he doesn’t have to pay rent at two places. Court accepted his request and gave him permission to stay in the original home. Avjit Singh was not anymore in control of his mind and he was feeling angry, fuming, heated and revengeful towards his wife. So in his mind, he was just searching for the whereabouts of Sargun Ragi. And when he found her address, from there everyone knows what happened as per various news sources. What Avjit Singh could have done instead? Avjit Singh’s wife was on a spouse visa and as per Australian immigration policy; she needed to spend at least two years in Australia with sponsorship from her husband to continue staying. Avjit could have actually taken away his sponsorship and should have sent her back to India and thus could have saved two lives. He should have ended his marriage relation with her in a legal way instead of killing her and then suiciding himself. He has now left behind his old parents and a young sister. His family is not very much financially strong as well and he was thier only hope for survival at this old age and from financial perspective as well.......God bless his soul and help his parents to face and survive his loss.

  31. They had created a fake model of the Sri Harmandir Sahib complex in Dehradun where the army rehearsed the attack for some 7 months or so, maybe more. 42 other Gurdwara Sahibs were attacked as well, where there were no Jujharoo Singhs or firearms, only innocent Sikhs who were targeted. This question is put forward by several Indian apologists every now and then "Vy did bin-drun-vaale bring arms inside the complex?"..."Vy did bin-drun-vaale come and start residing there?"...Simple reason, as mentioned earlier, he wanted to stay there closer to Guru Sahib, weapons were brought because when you know your house is going to be attacked you don't wait, you prepare. Also, in Sikh history whenever a historic morcha is initiated, its always from Sri Akal Takht Sahib (correct me if I am wrong), and this is where the Dharam Yudh morcha was started from.

  35. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Guru Roop Sangat Jeo, By Guru Sahibs Grace here is Garab Ganjani (Teeka of Sri JapJi Sahib) by Kavi Santokh Singh Ji: GARAB GANJANI TIKA, by Bhai Santokh Singh, is an exegesis in the Nirmala tradition of Guru Nanak`s Japu. The commentator, a celebrated poet and chronicler and author of the monumental Sri Gur Pratap Suraj Granth, completed the work, his only one in prose, in 1886 Bk/AD 1829. Whereas all his poetic works are written in Braj, this one is in Sadhukari. Santokh Singh undertook the writing of this commentary at the behest of his patron Ude Singh (d. 1843), the ruler of Kaithal, who, dissatisfied with an earlier tika by an Udasi sadhu, Anandghana, had wished a fresh one to be prepared. The original manuscript of Garab Ganjani Tika is preserved in the Dr Balbir Singh Sahitya Kendra at Dehra Dun. It was first published in AD 1910 and again, with certain corrections and punctuations, in 1961. The latter edition comprises 184 printed pages. The work opens with an invocation to God, followed by couplets eulogizing first the Ten Gurus and then Sarasvati, the goddess of learning. The poet salutes his mentor Giani Sant Singh whom he had in his younger days heard expound this text. This also explains how he had come to launch on this Tika. He brings out the majestic sublimity of the Japu and alludes to its general popularity. These explanations occupy all of the first four pages; the exegesis proper begins at page 5. Towards the end of the work, there are four couplets explaining the title of the work:Garab Ganjam Tika is Tika or exegesis that dispels and eradicates (ganjam = that which eradicates) arrogance (garb = pride). The exegesis is proffered in the form of a gosti. The Sikh, herein called mumokhi, i.e. one who is a seeker of mokh or release, puts questions to the Guru as to how he can attain liberation and the Guru answers those questions. 36. Reading Bhai Nand Lal's persian hymns you'll see he makes many references to sufi and hindu mystics same with Gurbani making references to dhroo, prahlad and other devotees of the past, yet today if a Sikh makes reference to a non-sikh spiritual being all hell breaks loose..

  37. Actually, having been to a Catholic run school, I'm pretty familiar with the depictions of Mary. In that mural, the image depicts something different - there are images from other dharams also included. I'm not saying it is right or wrong to have it in a Gurudwara, but increasingly, we're turning into a bunch of internet warriors. If you've been reading the forum in the last few days, you know what I mean. It's good you contacted him, let us know what he says. What I do know is that at Amritvela, when those pictures were taken, even the Gyani at my local Gurudwara isn't awake, lol. Sometimes, we miss the positive and see only the negative.
