  1. First of all, Sikhi preaches against fasting as it has no spiritual significance. Sikhi is a practical religion. Fasting in Ramadan signifies that they fast because there are so many people who can't afford food and they want to feel their suffering whereas in Sikhi we have concept of Seva where we help those poor and needy people so that they don't have to go through that suffering... Anyways, I never get the point of fasting as they eat after sunset and before sunrise whereas those poor people don't have that privelage... Rest is up to you. Personally, I would suggest you to help feed some homeless and needy during this month than starving yourself

  2. Muslims only have to give one fourth of what Sikhs give as daswand = 2.5% of yearly profits for a business. Sikhs have to give their daswand to those who need it most regardless of what their faith or background is. Muslims can only give charity to other Muslims according to the rules that Prophet Muhammad set.

  3. First of all I don't the question by the OP. The only reason I can think of a Sikh undertaking the Ramadan fast and thereby going against the teachings of the Gurus is that he/she has brought into the propaganda of Muslims that is everywhere during Ramadan. There is going to be a programme on Channel 4 about how great Ramadan is. The usual propaganda, how it';s a spiritual MOT! How it makes them think about the starving blah blah blah, Most of it is BS. Muslims fast because they have to, otherwise they get shunned by other Muslims. I would be weary of all those reports that majority of Muslims fast, I am sure a lot of them have a sneaky snack out of sight from other Muslims. If you cut through the propaganda, you will realise that Ramadan is not really a fast at all. Most Muslims stuff their faces before sunrise and then again after sunset. It is more of a change of eating habits, changing from three small meals throughout the day to two big meals at the start and end of the day. In most Muslim countries the restaurants and food outlets have to close down during the daylight hours. Non-Muslims can be beaten up and arrested if they eat anything in public because this will offend Muslims!

  6. Kaam is abig problem in kalyug...we all are victims to it but how low these muslims have fallen down is astonishing....they dont understand kaam... hiding women in burkas does not mean you control kaam...its not about the women but about you as an individual...keep your karm and gyan indries in control with gurprasad then even if a attractive women comes infront of you naked, you will have no desire for her as your desires are fulfilled by meditating on the charm of vaheguru... Liberal people/sikhs may say dont pick on muslims as all can do such acts.true as you will find in every community/religion peodos/groomist etc but a common trend is the vast majority being muslim/pakistanis..... We are so blessed to be under the shelter of dhan sri guru nanak dev ji aap nirankar....

  7. Maybe it's ok because it's not as if you are wearing the visor as a replacement for the dastar, like those people who wear caps instead. Your main aim is most likely protecting your eyes from the sunlight whilst hiking. Although I think in your case getting sunglasses would be your best option, they will look better and be more comfortable with your dastar compared to a visor.

  8. If you are a student or something and happen to be in the immediate company of muslims during their Ramadan and feel guilty eating, then go ahead and fast ! But you should know full well what gurbani says about empty rituals. Yes most of the muslims I have ever know do have an almighty feast in the evening and for breakfast, therefore they are not contributing their allowance of food for any needy persons in any way. The whole ide should be about 'sacrfice'. ie. if you sacrifice and give up your meal for those that are in more need. Then whether you are a Sikh or muslim, it doesn't matter. You should know that Guru Nanak ji gave his money and food to feed the needy sadhus. So as Sikhs we should do the same if we get the opportunity. This does NOT mean skip a meal, donate it and then pig out later on something more juicy. It should NOT be about the food but it should be about the HUNGER. To fulfill or get rid of another's Hunger by going hungry yourself should be the manner. We can all get rid of another's hunger by buying them food or donating some money/food, BUT how about we get 'Rid of their hunger by taking the hunger away from them and experiencing it ourselves instead??'' This is what a true Sikh should do. In my opinion this is NOT empty and not the fasting that Gurbani warns us about. Every living Sikh that has the privilege of all guaranteed meals should do this when the chance or need may arise. So the OP Dasguruka can participate in the Sikh and Guru Nanak Dev ji manner to give up his meal if he wishes, because this then becomes a bigger and better service than simple Ramadan fasting. Good Luck and don't get put off by extreme anti-ritual views.

  9. ^ I apologise for the harshness... Obviously devout Muslims don't get drunk or harass women! But I have devout Muslim friends and to me it seems the attitude that Ramadan is the holiest month is a prevalent thought and then they relax more in their rehit/devotion after Eid. I believe that is because in the long run keeping the rehit of ramadan is not practical and its difficult to live a gristi jeevan! I work with devout muslims and they could never continue the fast for long after ramadan even if they wanted too. Not taking any liquids is very difficult... food is another matter. I personally dont eat anything all day out of laziness/ and available time and do so with ease, No water however is hard. I just think instead of wasting your time and effort could be better spent doing Seva rather than starving/dehydrating yourself on purpose.

  10. Why would a Sikh observe Ramadan fast? it's for Muslims. But in the west you get some Sikhs celebrating Christmas, I guess Ramadan is no different for those types.

This disgusting person needs to be internally raped by spirits so that he feel the agony internally before going to hell and get raped there too after death.

  12. sick man. This is necrophilia. It is a sexual deviance that some people can feel lust for the dead. It is similar to other sexual deviance such as pedophilia where one feels aroused by little children or homosexuality where one feels aroused by the same gender or incest where one can feels aroused by their sibling. Sadly some of these sexual deviances are now becoming accepted as the new "normal" due to so called modern thinking.

  14. Is their a big difference between Sikhs or Asians as a whole in the North of England and the South? Having been to various cities across the UK. I Find that the Asians in the North are a lot more traditional with keeping with their culture and religion. especially in places like Birmingham. But in London and the South they are more westernized. I find places like Manchester, where there are hardly any Sikhs and the Muslims down there don't even resemble 'Asian' but look more Arabic/Moroccan descent.

  22. Whatever it is yaar, I seriously miss Ramadan in Dubai, the way it used to be when I was in high school. 5 hours of work/school, late night favorite Hindi movies on local channels, shopping frenzy all over the city, 2 AM traffic jams, etc. etc. We would eagerly wait for it because that was the 1 month of the year when non-Muslims would have a lot lot more fun than Muslims, LOL, no kidding! What I do NOT miss is the excessive religious programs on TV throughout the day (yes, these were followed by the Hindi movies LOL, ironic huh?), the apprehension of chewing gum on the road and getting arrested/slapped by a frustrated/starving cop etc. Top of all, I definitely do NOT miss the unbearable stench from their mouths as a result of having eaten all night and then NOT brushing their teeth, since, according to one of my dad's colleagues "You know sir, the more bad smell comes from your mouth during Ramadan, the closer you are to Allah" (I swear I am NOT kidding).

  26. The short answer to your question is, yes, there is a difference between the asians, Sikh or otherwise, in the North when compared to the South. However, it is also worth mentioning that within the UK, there is a North/South divide in general, nothing to do with ethnicity or race or religion. Henceforth, there is a difference between white men from the north and white men from the south, etc etc. It is only natural that those differences will manifest in some form or another elsewhere as well.

  33. That was harsh! I wasn't talking about all Muslims but rather the ones who actually follow the religion right way. Just like a proper Gursikh woukd follow his/own rehit. Who are we to decide how they live before or after Ramadan? Or have you actually lived with one and seen it with your own eyes? If they fast then they probably keep in touch with all the other things they're supposed to do. This post is already straying away from the topic

  35. Also I think it is very important to remain clean and not unpleasant with your odours... during ramadan I find muslims fall asleep after eating before sunrise or something must happen because they always have really bad morning breath during the month! Also Muslims themselves tell me they put on weight during the month because they fast all day and when they break fast.. all hell breaks loose and they eat anything and everything! Fried food etc... So all this talk about feeling the suffering of the poor etc is nonsensical for the majority of Muslims who state this... I know plenty of people who don't eat anything all day and have a normal standard meal in the evening. However, no liquids is hard!!! On a positive... I find muslims are extra nice to people during Ramadan... I was told this was because if they hurt anyones feelings during this month that sin stays with them etc... So during the month its actually nice to be around muslims (excluding the bad breath and moaning about fasting). Funny thing is it all lasts only a month! As soon as Eid hits you see drunken brawls in town and back to the same old holier then thou attitude with cars rolling up and down the street honking at anything in a skirt! So dasguruka.. I would advise if you want to fast or practice the "Dukh daru Sukh Rog bhaya" concept do so beyond ramadan, practice it beyond a month!... do so without fasting as for most Muslims its an excuse to get fatter and gorge on food in the evening and then have a massive hedonistic party at the end to celebrate Eid...

  38. Beans, lentils, hoummus, soy etc are all good sources of protein. I've not heard much about tofu causing bloating, but maybe a little bit of everything is ok in moderation. The toughest thing about cutting out entire food groups is making sure you're still getting all the right vitamins/minerals, which is hard for vegetarians, and even harder for vegetarians who are looking to lose/control their weight.

  44. Sikh brothers, I can understand your views about Islam or Prophet Mohammad. I personally do not agree with a lot of aspects of Islam or Prophet Mohammad's life, but I think we should keep a certain level of respect and civility when engaging Muslims or any other religious community. We can get our message across with respect and more diplomatically instead of using direct language which may come across as very insulting to the intended listener. There are a lot of good and kind hearted Muslims out there, but even they would feel insulted if we use the kind of language we are using here. By calling them inbred or referring to their prophet a rapist, pedophile, looter is not the right wording to use (even if it may be true according to their Quran and Hadiths) but we can say the same thing with more respectful diplomatic language. Religion is something that touches a person's soul. People can literally die or kill for it. So a religious debate should always be engaged with civility it should never degrade to insults.

  45. The Khalsa Panth is Guru ROOP, not the Guru itself, similar to how the punj pyare are Guru roop. This makes sense b/c the Guru is one, and does not hold opinions or beliefs that contradict himself. But the panth has different groups in it with different beliefs. A self-contradicting Guru makes no sense. Additionally, there is a sakhi from the time of the jungs with the hill rajas. The Khalsa was crushing their armies when the Guru sent his messenger with the message to the Sikhs to turn back and cease the battle. The Khalsa ignored him thinking that they were so powerful and amazing and none could stand before them. Guru ji withdrew his kirpa and the Singhs were soundly defeated. Humbled they apologized, realising that all kirpa comes from the Guru. This sakhi shows that the panth, in and of itself, is not Guru, but rather a roop of the Guru through which the Guru can spread his kirpa and achieve his aims in the world.

  46. Soya milk, rice milk and almond milk are common vegan alternatives. Also, nowadays there are vegan substitutes for lots of things, eg. vegan cheese, ice cream, yoghurt, chocolate, the list goes on. Apparently the dairy industry is more cruel to animals than the slaughtering of animals for meat and I heard that a lot of people (vegetarians especially but also non-vegetarians) turned vegan after watching the documentary 'Earthlings' (you can find it on YouTube) which exposes many industries that use animals for different purposes- meat/dairy/fashion/scientific/medical and so on.
