Yes, that does surprise me. You'd think they'd kind of begrudgingly respect the "seva" (not my perception) undertaken by the Gandhi dynasty, especially against Sikhs, but Modi's crew don't seem to like them at all.

You're very mistaken my brother . The  people who today run the show here never were at disadvantage , even during golden era of congress party during indira's reign . They used Indira , Nehru , Rajeev as and when it suited them.

Let me tell you brief history of indian politcs if you will :

It was the supposedly soft-spoken gentleman Atal bihari vajpayee (later on would become PM) and the other guy Advani , both BJP stalwarts who pressurized Indira to send army to harmandar sahib in view of the "persecution of hindus in punjab" .

Now stories changed quickly within a decade of op bluestar. Assassination of Indira in 1984 led to sikh genocide but also got sympathies of public to Rajiv (his mother died, not because he killed sikhs ). Now Rajiv got assassinated in 1991 because of his unnecessary fingering in Tamil Tigers . He was blown to smithereens . Now the widow italian lady Sonia comes to the reins . She gets party sympathizers and probably had learnt tricks of trade from her MIL and husband , she was quite successful in Indian politics and managed to keep her party in power.

With Indira and Rajiv dead, 1992 was perfect opportunity for hindu nationalists (also above mentioned two stalwarts) to get big big rallies behind mask of religion to bring down the babri mosque and set BJP into national politics. (Again they use congress PM Narsimha rao for this which again shows BJP did use congress when convenient)

Fast forward a decade in 2000s , BJP is very strong in parliament as opposition and ruthless. I remember a brief conversation between leader of opposition of BJP (late Sushma swaraj) with a journalist that she would shave her head bald if Sonia (italian) were to become PM. Reason being she's european , and indian martyrs worked hard to kick out britishers from india . BJP thinks its custodian of patriotism certificate lol.

So in 2014 , congress was given a death knell , as son of Rajiv is basically a doofus of indian politics and ridiculed in india as trump s in US. So now BJP is pretty much all in power.

NOW THAT Nehru-Gandhi family is of no use , their kashmir brahmin ancestry is conveniently changed to muslim . and all of them demonized for their blunders , incl Indira gandhi who is rumoured to be muslim as well and a USSR spy. Thats what they believe.

B..U...T........ Indira is still durga and did a big "SEWA" when it comes to eliminating terrorists like bhindrawale.

Did I just map their brain ?

Looks like there are four Sikhs out of the 20. Really sad that they lost their lives defending the interests of the country which committed genocide on their people.

Maybe they are in the same position that Sikh sepoys were in during the colonial period, with families that can't support themselves with their traditional occupations?

They hate muslims far more than Sikhs. They are angry at Gandhi and Nehru's family appeasement of muslims and rightly so. The muslims got to have Pakistan and Bangladesh so why are there still an equal amount of muslims in India as those two countries?

Until china admits it has lost 43 soldiers and does not make it clear they did by showing their bodies and funerals then I don't think the indian public and establishment will be satisfied leaving the matter there they will want chinese soldiers blood and revenge. The face saving thing for india is not forth coming from chinese side which makes the likelihood for further conflict high as indian establishment can not be shown to be weak infront of its public and the world.

Already modi has just said indian army will not be backing down from its stance and will a reply will come. So looks like india is on a war footing making it clear to china the engagement rules on the LAC border will change and bullets will fly if india is stopped from constructing infrastructure on the land they say is there's.

Well, we know what'll probably be next then, aerial bombing of the infrastructure by the Chinese.

    • Instead of a 9 inch or larger kirpan, take a smaller kirpan and put it (without gatra) inside your smaller turban and tie the turban tightly. This keeps a kirpan on your person without interfering with the massage or alarming the masseuse. I'm not talking about a trinket but rather an actual small kirpan that fits in a sheath (you'll have to search to find one). As for ahem, "problems", you could get a male masseuse. I don't know where you are, but in most places there are professional masseuses who actually know what they are doing and can really relieve your muscle pains.
    • Good way of putting it, bro. One of the ongoing themes of Gurbani is the fake saint. Whether it's fake babas in Punjab or English-speaking personalities in the West, it's an continuing problem of religion through the centuries (and it's not exclusive to us by any means, this applies to all human societies).
    • First of all, while it's true that Gurbani says slandering a Saint has such-and-such effects, you can't do the reverse: You can't look and your situation and know for certain what caused it. We're not encouraged to mope over our situations but rather to accept the hukam (will). The last line of the very first pauri of Japji Sahib says to live in hukam: ਹੁਕਮਿ ਰਜਾਈ ਚਲਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੧॥ hukam rajāī chalanā nānak likhiā nāl .1. O Nanak! By obeying, the pre-ordained order of the Lord's will. Secondly, the astpadhi from which you quoted the Sant ka dokhi verses has this verse at the end: ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਇ ॥ jis nō kripā karai tis āpan nām dēi . God gives His Name to those unto whom He shows His mercy. So ask for his mercy. Also check out the 7th Astpadi, which talks about the good effects of the sangat of a Sadhu: https://khojgurbani.com/shabad/271/709?highlighted_scripture_id=12007&highlighted_scripture_lang=gurmukhi&selected_content=gurbani I'm not getting into who is a "true" Sadhu in this post.
    • In langar it should be common sense for peopel to find a suitable space to sit. Normally in my local Singh Sabha gurdwara, there is enough space to sit, so I am able to find a space with enough space away from other people. There have been a few times, where there has been a lot of sangat and I have been forced onto a table.  In Slough and Southall Singh Sabha, Park Avenue, I will just sit near another group of men unless I am with family, but again there shouldn't be strict gender separation and instead common sense logic.
    • Yeh I could do to be honest. It's not really chardikala to be coming from the diwan hall and then sangat putting on shoes to go langar. I like sitting in the gurdwara with family, and there are spaces for this in bigger gurdwaras such as Slough, Southall, Coventry. In my current local area gurdwaras this is not really possible for weekly sangat, and also not for sangrand and gurpurb. Need to complain about these tendikalaUK practices  to be UK chardikala Singhs!
