Yes, he was a Sufi from Baghdad and he was worshipped by the Jats prior Sikhi and a lot of the Jats who became Sikh were former Sultanis - the name that his followers were known by. Those Jats who worshipped him were the least educated and they were looked down upon by Sikhs.

The increase in literacy is also linked to the conversion of Jathera/Sultanis to Sikhi. These Jats who were classed as Hindu Jats by the British had the worse literacy rate throughout the period of the British censuses. Only in 1931 did they surpass the Muslim Jats in total literacy and that was after years of the Arya Samaj education efforts especially in the Haryana area.

In 1891 literacy of Sikh Jats was   2.47% which increased to 4.75% in 1931   or  1 in 21  Jat Sikhs was literate

Literacy of Muslim Jats was 0.075% which increased to 1.6% in 1931  or 1 in 63 Muslim Jats were literate

Literacy of 'Hindu' Jats was 0.073% which increased to 1.7% in 1931  or 1 in 59  'Hindu' Jats were literate

For female literacy it was even worse for 'Hindu' Jats.

Female literacy of Sikh Jats was  1.49%  in 1931   --- 1 in 83 Sikh Jat females were literate

Female literacy of Muslim Jats was 0.3%  in 1931 --- 1 in 416 Muslim Jat females were literate

Male literacy of 'Hindu' Jats was 0.2% in 1931 ---- 1 in 561 'Hindu' Jat females were literate

So we can see why there was such an attraction for these Jathera/Sultani Jats to become Sikh Jats. Becoming a Sikh Jat meant that one was instantly aligned with the most progressive and forward looking and industrious Jat community in Punjab. The Muslim Jats were far behind the Sikh Jats. The Singh Sabha movement also contributed to the spread of education in the rural areas.

oh please.  revisionism 101.  stop deny any hindu past.  jatts were obivously hindus before.  even the ones who followed Saki Sarovar were probably Hindus.  Normal muslims don't follow sufi saints as its against their religion. Thats Hindus and Sikhs that do that (even today).

and literacy of what language?  english?  urdu?

Literacy in all languages, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi, English, Kashmiri etc.
