Taliban-fueled violence has been on the rise in Afghanistan which has been witnessing the withdrawal of US troops.

Kabul: The Taliban has reportedly removed Nishan Sahib, the Sikh religious flag from the roof of Gurdwara Thala Sahib in Chamkani in the Paktia province of Afghanistan. The historical Gurdwara was visited by Sri Guru Nanak Dev. Unattributed reports on social media showed visuals of the holy place. Times Now has not been able to independently verify the facts and an official word from government agencies is awaited.

Afghanistan has been witnessing Taliban-driven violence in light of the ongoing withdrawal of troops by the US. India has vehemently expressed concern over the fragile situation in that country and advocated that peace in Afghanistan is critical to enduring peace in the region.

Last year, the Afghan Taliban had abducted one Nedan Singh Sachdeva, an Afghani Sikh from the same Gurdwara. 

The Indian government had strongly condemned the attack and expressed concern over the abduction of minority community members from Afghanistan. “We strongly condemn the abduction of Nedan Singh, a leader of the Hindu and Sikh Community of Afghanistan, by terrorists. The targeting and persecution of the minority community members by terrorists at the behest of their external supporters is a matter of grave concern,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Anurag Srivastava had then said.

 In March that year, an ISIS gunman had opened fire at the Guru Har Rai Sahib Gurdwara in Shor Bazar of Kabul killing at least 25 Sikhs. As of 2020, there were about 650 Sikhs in Afghanistan. The members of the community have written to the Indian Embassy in Kabul to rescue them by special flights.

Sikhs are part of history of Afghanistan. Guru Gobind Singh sent a Hukamnama to Kabul. So are Buddhists. The Taliban erased statues of Buddha.

And yet when these Afghan Sikhs and Hindus are taken to India to escape persecution they then complain and want to go back to this??

So the news states that the Nishan Sahib was actually put back up a couple of days later. 

On a side note, the Taliban are rapidly expanding across Afghanistan and recently took Kandahar and the city of Ghazni, the birthplace of Bhai Nand Lal Ji. They are basically knocking on Kabul's doorstep at this point. I seen video of the Taliban with all the US military's equipment that was given to the Afghan army. However, if we look at this whole conflict alongside conflicts in the past we can see how effective guerilla warfare truly is against superior opponents with examples ranging from Vietnam, Cuba, and so on. We can even look at our own history and point to the warfare Singhs used against the Mughals and Afghans when our elders were living in the jungles.

It's significant that these under resourced people took on and defeated the much wealthier and better trained apex western powers. 

Plus people concerned about the nishaan sahib being removed should worry about what Sikhs there will face now. 

It's a shame that the Indian government don't give these people proper papers, it's even a bigger shame that  in this day and age, these refugee Sikhs can't even rely on a warm and hospitable welcome from their Panjabi Sikh brethren.

Undereesourced? during Russian occupation they were getting arms and support from USA, via CIA and then from China and Arabia (paid for by) during USA's occupation
