  1. We are all guilty of debating or discussing outside of gursikh principles ((which includes me off course), just wanted to take this chance to post sakhi from Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji updesh to pandits on discussion/debates and whats allowed for Gursikhs. Four types of Conversations/discussion- 1) Heth - Where you listen to someone because you know they have more kamai and more knowledge than you. You are humble when listening. This also applies to school. 2) Vaadha - Where you actually do your research and share to positively add to a conversation constructively. Even if there is disagreement, you should not hurt another's feelings or prove that you are better. 3) Jalapa - Where you say stuff to put the other down. Try to make yourself look good. 4) Vitaardha - Where you keep talking and don't listen to anyone else (the majority of us). *** This is from a sakhi where some pundits asked Guru Hargobind Ji what type of conversations are allowed. Guru Hargobind Ji said a Gursikh only takes part in the first 2 types of conversations. ***

  2. The Sikh Jats actually went from 66% of the Sikh population to 53% between 1881 and 1931. This was because they increased by 90% over this period whereas the non-Jat Sikhs increased by 310% over the same period. The migrants to Canada and California were mainly former soldiers of the British Indian army. For Hindu Jats there was not specific regiment to join which was not the same in the case of Sikh Jats. The Jat regiments were for Hindu Jats from the Haryana region. A Hindu Jat from Punjab would need to become a Sikh to join the army.

  3. This is a very interesting question, I have always wondered this too. As far as I understand, the atma originates from parmatma and one day hopes to break free from the cycle of birth and death by achieving union with parmatma. But I am not sure about the exact relation that exists either, hopefully some other people will have more information that they can share.

  4. let me correct you . You want to have Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji at your home , Correction - no one can own Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji . Its not a book , its our living Guru . There are number of protocols which a person have to follow to get Saroop of our Guru at home :- 1) person shoudnt drink. hukamnama from Akal Takath states that Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji will not be in any ones home if they have liquor there. 2) person shudnt smoke 3) you need a seperate bed for Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji 4) you need to wakeup at 2-3 am in morning to do prakash of Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji 5) and before that you need to clean that place thoroughly with milk and water mixture. 6) you need all clothes washed and cleaned for our Guru 7) you the person sitting behind Guru sahib must have a full body shower with hair. 8) if your went to <banned word filter activated> you will need full shower before sitting behind Guru sahib 9) you need a person to do Chor over Guru sahib 10) you need a throne for Guru Sahib 11) shoes are not allowed in Guru sahibs room , not is alcohol smoke etc 12) morning ritual of waking up Guru sahib and reading from Guru is called Prakash now i wont go in the details and these are not even half yet no , i am not trying to scare you away from sikhi but how important it is to us being clean when we handle our sacred scriptures however i would suggest you to read an online translation here are the steps you must follow 1) the pc should be placed on a little higher ground where you sit , if its a laptop its fine. 2) clean your pc , no dirty hands to touch your laptop 3) dont keep our food and eatables while reading guru sahib 4) if you have drank alcohol , do a shower and wear clean clothes when going infront of guru sahib 5) no porn on your pc/laptop where you are reading Guru sahib . its a strict NO rather then starting from Guru sahib i would suggest you to starting reading 5 morning bani's and do simran of waheguru. wakeup at 4-6am you can have a video played for Japji sahib with english translations hope didnt scared you off. but its our Guru and all rules are to be strictly followed

  5. I think we should forget the past and look to the future. If the legacy of Aurangzeb + the Islamic Empire's brutality means two thirds of Punjabi's nowadays are proud to be Muslim, then we should be able to do a better job than Aurangzeb as we are not killing people but liberating them from immoral lies which directly result in extreme misery to the lives of innocent human beings. I think the time has come to stop this racist attitude held by too many that a person born a Hindu, should stay a Hindu and just be good at being Hindu and focus on praying to idols. And that a person believing in Nazism, should remain a Nazi and just concentrate on being a good Nazi and focus on copying Hitler as a role model. The same kind of advice to Al-Qaeda and George W.Bush has resulted in so much suffering throughout the world. If more people conned into the Abrahamic + Hindutva philosophies could understand and agree with Sarbath Da Bhalla as an ideology in this generation or century it would bring peace, prosperity and happiness globally.

  6. sangat ji, waheguru ji ka khalsa waheguru ji ki fateh! i am puzzled, i know we should not focus on defining parmatma because we can't. but i wan't to know what relation exists between atma and parmatma? is he the husband and the soul is the bride, or is he the father and the soul is the child, or is he the friend or is he the malak and soul is the daas. i need it because when i do simran how should i remember him as...please enlighten me....gurbani tuks would be a great help....

  7. Wahegurujikakhalsawahegurujikifateh There was a Bhagat from Lahore called Chajju. One day at his door two labourers were stood outside. At the time it was raining. Bhagat Chajju looked at the labourers and asked why they were stood outside his door. They looked at Bhagatji and said that they work for a living outdoors doing labour. Their condition was such that when they didn't work, they didn't eat. They explained to Bhagatji that when it rains they don't find much work. As a consequence they had come to Bhagat Chajjuji's door in the hope of finding some work. Bhagatji invited them into his house to offer them work . He said not only will I feed you - sugar and koi - but I will pay you double your usual rate. Bhagatji offered 8 annas instead of the 4 annas the labourers were usually paid for a days work. Bhagatji then sat the two labourers down, gave them malas and said sit down and doing abhiyaas of Raam. At the end of the day Bhagatji fed the labourers and paid them 8 annas. He then told them come here daily and partake in this work and I will continue to pay and feed you in this way. The labourers looked at Bhagat Chajjuji and said this work is too difficult to do. We would rather lift and break stones than do hard manual labour than this work... Loose translation of Katha by Sant Gyani Baba Gurbachan Singh Ji Bhindranwale Why is it so hard? 8. Here Jasdeep read the following shabad by Guru Arjan Dev ji on ang 1006 Maaroo, Fifth Mehl, Sixth House, Du-Padas: maaroo mehlaa 5 ghar 6 dupday One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: ik-oNkaar satgur parsaad. Abandon all your clever tricks; meet with the Holy, and renounce your egotistical pride. chhod sagal si-aanpaa mil saaDh ti-aag gumaan. Everything else is false; with your tongue, chant the Name of the Lord, Raam, Raam. avar sabh kichh mithi-aa rasnaa raam raam vakhaan. ||1|| O my mind, with your ears, listen to the Name of the Lord. mayray man karan sun har naam. The sins of your many past lifetimes shall be washed away; then, what can the wretched Messenger of Death do to you? ||1||Pause|| miteh agh tayray janam janam kay kavan bapuro jaam. ||1|| rahaa-o. Pain, poverty and fear shall not afflict you, and you shall find peace and pleasure. dookh deen na bha-o bi-aapai milai sukh bisraam. By Guru`s Grace, Nanak speaks; meditation on the Lord is the essence of spiritual wisdom. gur parsaad naanak bakhaanai har bhajan tat gi-aan. That is all you got to do, but still we find it very difficult. Keep practising throughout the day. Just say once then check did your mind completely hear it. If so do it again.. Its about quality first not quantity so relax, say it slowly with love. Eventually the mind like a trained dog, will the moment your ears hear the word Waheguru will listen attentively. You will be able to observe it that it kept quite and just stood still. When I first used to sit in sangat and do simran I could not even hear my own voice, I used to just sing along. My ears were not tuned to listening to what comes out of my own mouth. I used think gosh what’s wrong with me I can hear everyone else but not the sound coming out of my own mouth. With practise of saying it constantly throughout the day my mind/ears became adept at focusing on my own voice. Now no matter how loud the sangat get, my mind locks into my own voice. Then the anand increases and you begin to absorb into the shabad. The thoughts begin to decrease and all you can hear is the word WaheGuru nothing else. It becomes intoxicating. Then whenever you have a free minute, you will think to yourself let me fill those few minutes with waheguru jaap and be lost in the feeling again. Hope that helps you ji..

  9. If we celebrate anything it is when the Charter was written up and enforced, where Aboriginal people finally saw a ray of hope into helping themselves collect the pieces and try to put there community together. Next time you see an Aboriginal teen on drugs, robbing, and selling drugs. Don't think criminal. Think systematically marginalized, killed, raped of his culture, land, religion, family, and community.

  10. How we forget so easily. This is a black day in history as this is the day Aboriginal people officially lost the right to live on their lands peacefully without foreigners telling them either shape up or face the wrath of our strike. Robbed of their culture, their children, their land, their families, their spiritual path, and oppressed to accept a foreign way of life. Systematically marginalized and to this day we see the same system rejecting them the right the Aboriginal people deserve after facing centuries of oppression. It was only in 1982 that all minorities including Aboriginal people saw any bit of hope, but that was only a paper document that made the colonizers look pretty in their British suits, vest, and ties. Does this sound familiar to any person coming from Punjab? Let us know if you would celebrate after such treatment. No doubt Canada has changed, but to celebrate Canada day is just another way reminding the Aboriginal people you are second class citizens on your own land and if you try to do anything about it. Well you will face the man made law which protects the rights of the foreigners (whites) who occupied your land with force. See how well this works out for you. What do Sikhs say, we forgive but never forget.............well this just doesn't stop at 1984. Humanity is one regardless what way of life they follow and their is no tolerance for oppression.

  11. There is no difference between atma and paratma in essence. However, it appears different, when one associate themselves with body, egoistic mind, individuality. Rise above from body, egoistic mind and individuality by surrendering your body, mind, ego to satguru ji and do naam simran and self inquiry (associate one with real self only) and slowly one will realize their daulity is destroyed and there is no difference. We all one day or one life time under hakum of akaal purkh/guru maharaj kirpa, all of us will go back to our source where we came from and merge with paratma .

  16. I'm guessing your trying to do simran internally with the voice of the mind. The technique I've have found the most beneficial in helping still the mind first is to put your dhiyaan into your voice just in front of your mouth. Lock in your ears into listening at that position as you say Waheguru. Then watch has your mind begins sit and listen. If it begins to wonder grab it and bring it back there and force it to listen. You will then become more aware when your mind wants to take flights and you will restrain it. With practice your mind will automatically get used to focusing and listening to the shabad. After it learns to sit still then lower the volume and make sure it still sits there. Eventually your dhiyaan will remain in your ears when your japping whether verbally or internally. The ears/mind will become super sensitive and trained that when ever jap is occurring it will automatically learn to sit and listen. Your anand will increase and then with Guru's grace your off..... If you still find your mind is very active, then jap with your eyes open for a while but keep the focus on the sound of the jaap. If you keep the dhiyaan on the sound in front of lips/mouth you will find that as your mind becomes still the eyes will automatically close. Hope it helps ji...

  19. Although by the time of British ascendancy in Punjab, Afghanistan was mainly concerned with the blockade emphasized upon by the Khalsa, the Jatts were too busy paying obeisance to the British and Maratha selfishness ultimately brought about their demise. The mughals were pathetic puppets in the hands of these various prominent powers. First the Afghanis, than the Marathas, than the Khalsa, than the British and vice versa. After the Indian mutiny was quarantined from Delhi, the emperor had two of his sons shot by the British officers in command. Reminiscient of his ancestor's deeds. Ironic how roles reversed and from an adolescent viewpoint the bully became the bullied. As per their religious viewpoint (the mughals) the emperor was an autocrat wielding what was emphasized upon God and his messengers, unfortunately he was not insured against a "rainy day."

  22. Nobody is taking anyone home now. How can you judge full nation, its people and patriotism now with actions of past anglo saxon european who attempted to destroy aboriginal culture with torture, rape, racist policies. Canada now is made out of charter right and freedom of all by Pierre Trudeau. It's like judging UK now based on actions of british umpire in the past and even better its like judging sikh race, or its people based on actions of few atrocities committed in 1947 against muslims. Seriously, if people are not happy to be in Canada or UK by making loose statements like- they are oppressing or oppressor then they are more than welcome to speak out in real life and bring change or if they prefer different nation like -sweden, switzerland, norway ... india, pakistan, afghanistan they can simply move there. Most Canadians are generous, but they don't appreciate someone accusing canadians to be oppressors and at the same milking them- taking full advantage of their benefits, social services, welfare etc.

  23. What's sad about the figures overall, is that despite the message of 1699, Sikhs were reluctant under British divide and rule policies to surrender their old tribal identities as specifically ordered by Guru Gobind Singh Ji with the birth of the Khalsa Panth. Can we even call ourselves Sikhs if some still hold on to old tribal identities in 2013?

  27. I agree with Proactive Jee, Many people think that Jatt Sikhs have been Sikhs since either the Guru period or 1700s. This is a huge misconception. Some Jatts became Sikhs, but there were still significant numbers of Hindu Jatts still remaining in Punjab before Singh Sabha movement. During the 1700s, after great sacrifice and determination when Khalsa was finally blessed with Raaj over Punjab, Sikhs were only about 5% of the entire population of Punjab. During the Raaj of Lahore Durbar, Sikh population grew as more people became Sikhs. But after the fall of the Sikh Raaj, many Sikhs(belonging to all castes) who had just recently become Sikhs had reverted back to Hinduism. Demographically, Sikhi was in the decline when the Panth got together at Sri Darbar Sahib and did ardas to Guru Jee to do kirpa on the Panth. It is said that the result of this ardas, a white light orb entered Sri Darbar Sahib and stopped infront of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee and then it vanished. This miracle occurred infront of hundreds of people who saw this. The resulting Singh Sabha movement was successful because Guru Jee did kirpa on the Panth and saved it. I am proud that my family had become Sikhs of the Guru because of this miracle. The Sikh population share in Punjab almost tripled within a short time period. While other religions spread through the sword or by bribery(laalach), Sikhi was spread by Parchaar in the true sense.

God & Guru Nanak are my witnesses to endorse the foregoing truth. Guru Gobind Singh Ji, Sarb Loh Granth, (MS), 519-526. Be merciful and tell us what have you left for us? Maharaj smiled and gave the Pandits an asthan. He then told them to sit down and to do bhagti, to do abhiyaas of Sri Gurmantar Sahib Ji for eight hours. In return for this seva Maharaj said he would give the Pandits 15-15 mohars. Hearing the Bachan the Pandits were full of happiness. Whilst Maharaj stood before the Pandits they continued to do abhiyaas. As soon as Maharaj physically left that place the Pandits would stop and began to talk to one another. Maharaj being Antarjami told Bhai Alam Singh Ji to go and watch over the Pandits and to not allow them to talk to one another. Bhai Alam Singh Ji did this and for over 8 hours he stood watch. During this time the Pandits did the jaap. At the end of the 8 hours Maharaj came with 15 mohars and gave them to the Pandits. He then said stay here, do abhiyaas and everyday I will give you 15 mohars. The Pandits listened to this and said to Guru Sahib that no this seva is too difficult - we can't do it. In this way they left Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib Ji and went back to Kanshi from where they had come from. 31. The aren't many Sikhs in Pakistan anymore. After the partition of India in 1947, Sikhs had to leave their homes for the Indian side as it was too dangerous to stay. India has the largest Sikh population (concentrated in the Punjab region) and this is followed by the UK. I suggest that you change Divali to Bandi Chor, this is the Sikh name for the festival. It falls on the same day as the Hindu festival of Divali, but we celebrate for different reasons. Also, Vaisakhi is the day when the Khalsa was created by the 10th guru, because most Sikhs are Punjabi, Vaisakhi is also the day when the harvest is celebrated and has some cultural celebrations. Guru Nanak instead of Lanka. We also do Nagar Kirtans on festivals. This is when we do parades in towns and give food etc. on the way. The Guru Granth Sahib leads the procession with 5 Sikhs (panj pyare). You might want to mention langar. This was started by the first guru, Guru Nanak. Langar refers to the free meals you can find at a gurdwara. Anyone is welcome and can take part in the langar. Everyone sits together and eats the same food, showing equality and getting rid of your ego. There are no priests, but gurdware will employ people to care of the Guru Granth Sahib and do things such as teaching children about Sikhism and Punjabi. These are called Granthis. Sikhism was founded by Guru Nanak, but it evolved with the following 9 human Gurus. The last, current Guru (11th Guru) is the Guru Granth Sahib, this is the Sikh holy book and it is treated with great respect. Good luck with your book.

They said that they come to Darbar Sahib to thank Allah but they are devout Muslims. 33. If truth exist in all religions then all religions are equally right and for that matter Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji was wrong to be critical of Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Jainism, etc. What you ought to have said is that, there is a God in everyone and from time to time that God comes out of people. Hence Gubani says don't worship the dirt or the tomb, but worship Akal. How many atheist and agnostics are putting their lives in danger to save others? If one atheist saves another, now does that make the belief he holds of there being no God true? Animals have the ability to save other animals lives, but we don't make outrageous conclusions after they do such acts.

  34. I have no issue with them marrying each other but we have to look to the future. Homosexual lifestyles and relationship choices are now being presented to our children, in schools as acceptable and on equal terms as the sacred tradition of marriage between man and wife. This whole "acceptance" thing is fine but it does open up a can of worms. How long is going to be before we have "Sikh" same sex couples turning up to the Gurdwara and demanding to be married? Why are people not looking at the fact such relationships are not beneficial to a person i.e. the rate of HIV infection for gay men is many times than that of heterosexuals and in fact such same sex infections account for half of new cases, even though they are a minority. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-20526380 Now I may be sidetracking a little but I feel this is worth a mention. The fact is their relationship choice has taken them out of the biological process of producing children but yet they are allowed to arrange "business deals" to have kids i.e. a mother is paid to carry the foetus of a couple. They can also adopt and have IVF treatment. How healthy do you think it is for a child to be raised with two dads or two mums? Isn't this a mocking of the natural order WaheGuru has given us? Living in London it is more and more common to see such couples displaying their affections in the street, how do you explain this interaction to your children, nieces and nephews and grandchildren. For the record I am totally against any discrimination against gay people and I do agree with their right to marry/be in a civil partnership etc. Many gay people I have met are very nice, warm and friendly and make great colleagues, work mates etc. Also NO WAY can homosexuality be compared to more vile acts such as robbery, rape and murder. This is after all consent between two adults and their personal business. But I don't believe Sikhs should embrace or jump behind the cause, especially in light of the things I have mentioned.

  35. I did not write anything about Lahore district or even Amritsar for that matter. One being the religious capital and the other being the political capital of the Sikh state, then the Jats would obviously have been more inclined to be Sikh than Hindu. Also given that a majority of the Misldars also came from these districts, this would have given another impetus to the Jats becoming Sikh. The census of 1881 states that there were 23,373 Hindu Jats compared to 16,849 Sikh Jats in Gujranwala district. By 1931 this had changed to 35,339 Sikh Jats and 2,299 Hindu Jats. Between 1881 and 1931 a part of the Gujranwala district was split into Sheikhupura district where Sikh Jats were 41,181 and Hindu Jats 857 in 1931. The case of Gujranwala is interesting because the likelihood of who was a Sikh or Hindu Jat prior to the Singh Sabha depended mostly on which got that person belonged to. The Virks, Manns, Sidhu and Sandhu were more likely to be Sikh and the Varaich, Cheema and Chatha were more likely to be Hindu than Sikh. The Virks and Manns had had Misldars who were from their got and who retained some of their estates after the annexation.

  36. In 1881, in Jalandhar the Sikhs Jats were 56,407 compared to 87,262 Hindu Jats. Even in Kapurthala State which I am sure you will agree does not have the same physiology as Hoshiarpur and was a protected state within the Lahore state, had 12,020 Sikh Jats compared to 16,245 Hindu Jats. Due to the parchar work of the Singh Sabha, in Jalandhar there were only 12,754 Hindu Jats compared to 160,286 Sikh Jats in 1931. The figures for Kapurthala state were 35,757 Sikh Jats and 1,148 Hindu Jats in 1931. The only reason I can deduce is that the Jats who were more adventurous and who were ambitious to stake a claim to the land were more likely to become Sikhs and join the Misl bands and the ones that did not have this mentality remained Hindus until the Singh Sabha came along.

  37. Legal Singh Your theory falls flat because areas such as Jalandhar and Hoshiarpur which were a part of the Lahore state had more Hindus Jats than Sikh Jats. This was also the case with Sialkot and Gujranwala districs. If your theory was correct then in Gujranwala most of the Hindu Jats would have been Sikhs because Gujranwala had been the base of the forefathers of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and there would have been a great urge among the HIndu Jats to become Sikh being from the same area as the Maharaja. The Gujranwala district also witnessed a great deal of turmoil because of the wars between the forefathers of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and the Muslim tribes, Exactly the type of situation which if your analysis was correct would have led to a large number of Hindu Jats becoming Sikhs. You theory also falls flat because the three districts of Punjab which were under British control before the annexation of Punjab, Ferozpur, Ludhiana and Ambala, only Ambala district had more Hindu Jats than Sikh Jats. This was because half the district was in the area now known as Haryana. Your theory also doesn't hold true because Ferozpur had been under a Misldar until it was taken over by the British in 1835. It was under the protection of the British from 1809 as same as the Sikh states in Malwa. Patiala, Faridkot and Nabha states which were under the protection of the British since 1809 also had more Sikh Jats than Hindu Jats. In the case Patiala and Nabha this is all the more remarkable as they included large parts of the region now known as Haryana.

  38. It is best to read from the translations and commentaries to get a good understanding of Gurbani. Try also to do Paath(recitation) of Gurbani. Sikhs usually start off with Japji Sahib. Many Sikhs do meditation on Gurbani by focusing on it's recitation and reciting it numerous times with concentration. One can also listen to online recitations to improve one's own pronunciation.

  39. "These are the three duties of a Sikh, basically to Pray, Work and Give" Is incorrect, its not pray but meditate naam 24 hours (naam japna), and its not just work its honest work only. Naam is Gods creative force that is used in the world as a creater and director of the world which we can attune to by remembering God's qualities and simran (meditation of waheguru) also it seems that you got all your information from Wikpedia but a good attempt. Here a great essential resource: http://www.gurunanakacademy.com/audio/index.php?q=f&f=%2FEnglish+Katha%2FBhai+Parminder+Singh+Ji

  40. You will only get opinions here. I have only been using this website for a few days but enough to tell me there are a lot of misinformed people here. If I were you I would contact the Sri Akal Takht Sahib (Sikh's highest temporal authority) and have your work reviewed and approved by them before publication. You will only get opinions here. 41. Due to various strict protocols by our supreme body (Akal Takht, Amritsar, India), there is no printing of Sri Guru Granth sahib in single volume in english. So, you can buy steek (divided in volumes/parts) from various sources. Sikhnet sells Five volumes for price of $250. http://www.sikhnet.com/GuruTranslation From this old thread: These translations do a great service in making the meanings and message of Guru Granth Sahib ji very clear to the common man and Sikhism enthusiasts . There are translations of complete Guru Granth Sahib ji in English, Hindi and Punjabi and all of these have been excellently done . Some of them are just translations while others contain the transliterations and bani in its original form also. Following is the list of translations that have been added : English Translations of Guru Granth Sahib Ji : 1. Guru Granth Sahib English Translation By Dr. Gopal Singh 2. Sri Guru Granth Sahib By Gurbachan Singh Talib in English in 4 Volumes in English 3. The Essence of Sri Guru Granth Sahib by Gurbachan Singh Makin in English - Punjabi in 5 Volumes 4. Guru Granth Sahib by Dr. Darshan Singh in English - Punjabi in 5 Volumes 5. Sri Guru Granth Sahib by Manmohan Singh in English in 8 Volumes 6. The Holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib by Kartar Singh Duggal in English in 4 Volumes

  43. ^^ waheguru ji,,,,,this person is already a sikh and he already knows the do and don'ts of sikhi. That gora was attracted to sikhi, it's not one day class. He wouldn't quit drinking just because we say so, but until the love for Guru ji flourishes in his heart, then we don't have to tell him to quit, he'll quit by himself. At this point, alcohal is dear to him than sikhi, but once sikhi becomes dearer to him, alcohal will have no place in his life. Sikhi is the path of love, not force. Like when a child starts from first, pehlan hi onu kehdo tenu phd karni paini aa age ja ke, oda edan da syllabus hai, ene test dene paine ne, 24 ghante parhna hi paina, one school hi ni auna, je aa geya ta parahi vich mann ni launa ya mann apne aap hi ni lagna. But person forgot to make him understand that this is a slow progress, he has to undergo other classes as well, which will keep increasing his knowledge, potential & dedication to reach the goal. A person has a wife, a sister and a mother. Mother calls him son, wife calls him husband, sister calls him brother. Why? Why don't they all call him the same coz it's the same person. Then a person has 2 sons, 15 and 5, got sick. Doctor gave a light medicine to 5 yeras old and a little heavy to 15 yr old. Why? kyonki dono iko peo de putter ne, done bimaar ne te iko doctor kol gaye ne. Do you think he should have given them the same medicine, without thinking of other individually related factors & consequences. And just telling him "alcohal is not allowed", doesn't end the question. What do you think ke sare "not allowed" likhke apni post band kar dain. You answered straight forward by saying "no", very good, someone has to do it, you did it, whereas others explained a little more, that's it. Anyways, there's no point going over that again for me at least.

  44. I don't see what the issue with the original post is and think it's a very valid topic, essentially the poster is asking for advice on forgiveness from a Sikhi point of view- which would most likely be backed up with gurmat and Gurbani. It's not really about the rights and wrongs of pre-marital relationships or promiscuity, as the person concerned already knows about that, hence their concerns about getting married to someone who has been promiscuous in the past. The main issue innergear is asking for advice about is forgiveness and there are lots of examples of forgiveness that we can learn from in Gurbani, in sakhian and from the lives of our Gurus and other Sikhs of their times and also the present time.

  45. Sikhi starts with IK Onkar and ends with IK Onkar. You cannot separate Ik Onkar from Sikhi.

  47. We don't subscribe to what you see as "idol worhsip". Sri Guru Granth Sahib Jee is our Guru. We do utmost Satkar of Guru Jee and we make no apologies about it. Sikhs have been following a Maryadha for the upkeep of the sroop of Guru Granth Sahib jee for hundreds of years. Guru Jee is not some book that we put on a shelf. Doing Satkar of Guru Jee is our is our Farz(duty)I. Then how can we take Guru Jee to a place which serves Sharaab and Kabaab? If this seems like idol worship to you, then so be it. You say, "respect guru granth sahib teachings by practising them", my dear friend, no Sikh who practices Sikhi would have written what you have written here in the first place. Because a Sikh who practices Sikhi does utmost Satkar of Guru Jee and cannot tolerate beadbi being done of Guru Jee. First follow your own words of practicing Sikhi instead of lecturing others.

  49. Harsimran Kaur jee and others on here that advocate gay anand karaj. You base your arguments that some people are born with such feelings and that they have the right to be with each other in marrigae and union. You argue that it is not against Gurmat and that the Akal Thakhat should have no say in the matter...........I understand that people have same sex feelings but it is absolutely against Gurmat. Again and again in Gurbani Maharaj warns us about Kaam. This applies to eveyone. I have been in Law Enforcement for the past 10 years. i have come across countless cases where fathers claim that they love their daughters. They partake in sexual activity with their children. These adults claim that they were born this way that they have always been attracted to young children. Is this right or wrong. Is this Gurmat or not. Peadophiles argue that they cannot change....they were born that way. Do they then have the right to marry their children. If this does not clear things then what about in cases where a brother and sister enter into a intimate relationship. They argue that they have always felt that way about each other. Are they allowed to get married too? People who go on about the fact that Homosexuality is not mentioned by Guru Sahib have not either read Guru Granth Sahib Ji or have a warped view of nature. Gurbani is an essence, Gurbani warns us against Kaam, homosexuality is Kaam, paedophillia is Kaam, incest is Kaam. Gurmat is about male and female marriage. The purpose is procreation that is it. I have no problem with people having such feelings and living their lives as they choose but please do not try to twist Gurbani and Sikhi to fit and justify these lifestyle choices because if you agree that there is nothing wrong with homosexuality then what do you say about the paedophiles and incestors? They were also born this way right? My intention is not to hurt anyone....bhull chuk maaf karnee. WJKK WJKF.

  50. Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh Gursikh and a Muslim Pir: Power of Bani The following sakhi was posted by Bhai Bijla Singh Ji on this very forum in 2004. It is a very inspiring story and teaches us that if we hold the Bani of Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Maharaj and the Kirpan of Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj in our body, mind, heart and soul no power, seen or unseen can break our link to our beloved Satguruji. This is especially relevant in today’s age where dushts so openly try to severe our ties with the charankamal of our beloved father, Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Dhan Satguru Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj.
