The democratic system itself is flawed. There is no real democracy if candidates are predetermined by those in power. Yes, children often respond well to music. Many Indians use mantras to stop babies crying and to calm unborn babies down too, along with the mother. Others use mantras to aid healing of their loved ones in hospital. Very powerful tool which should not be forsaken as I'm sure Muslims could do with it. Quite badly.

They are a mixed bag. Most are fairly traditional. So you would rarely hear of a women engaging in things like drinking although the men like to drink. Shisha/Hooka culture in Australia isn't popular so its rare for a Sikh to engage in that. Bhangra culture is coming here but not as much as Canada or the USA.

Panjabi music now is limited to artists getting caught in preplanned controversies every other day. Swearing has become so normalised in Panjabi music because of rap/hip-hop. UK Panjabi music also contributed to popularising these new genres in Panjab. Young people in Panjab are so obsessed with singers, they even swear at each other over them.

I have noticed that many of these communities follow sikhi way better than punjabis like the sikhligar sikhs. Also many of those communities are way more disciplined than us. I mean my experience most Punjabi families are always inner fighting, never get along fighting land money jealously pulling each others leg... then kids who grow up in that environment of toxicity end up 'rebelling'..marry outside community or end up doing wrong things . Gurudwares inner fights, street fighting, etc this is why may or heard most grow up wanting to move away from any Punjabi hotspot neighborhood. You want to live with gora area lol discipline and away from the negativity. Some traits are just inherited in Punjabis..

I can barely scrape together a proper amrit vela but once we as Kaum start to embrace and apply the basics of Sikhi then everything else will become organic. We don't mean the mindless violence of drug and alcohol fuelled 'jabis over whose drug territory or girls have been taken over . They re neither sikh nor sane. We mean educated sikhs who have put their efforts on the mental plane alone .andwould be adversely affected in a fight because they have been tamed and domesticated to follow the crowd.

I've seen a fair amount of big, strapping lads from our lot who are like wilting flowers with no presence/personalities. Apnay who walk about with their heads lowered and panic at the first sign of trouble. We have to address that. I remember some students I taught at college who were well over 6 foot. As soon as some tonda from the rough part of town would flex it, they would get cowed down but otherwise they would bowl about like they were the dog's bollox. Okay, some of these personality things are intrinsic/biological. But I feel a lot of them are the consequence of how we raise up our boys. That all being said, I just finished working on a site that had a strong crew of apnay (mostly freshies), and the younger ones were what you want. Strong, strapping and confident - with presence. In a cafeteria full of 'bozos' and other indigenous goray, they held their own like men. I don't know what it is about being bought up British that knocks this out of blokes?

Well, if you mean that this forum is donating to political parties, and keeping tallies of their subsequent votes, then no. But that's that's not the point of this forum. With all due respect, it's not just pointless ranting. A lot of people come to this forum, the vast majority just read the headline posts and never sign up for an account or post. The kind of stuff that @genie posts performs the function of socialization, the process of learning how to behave acceptably in society. In this case Sikh society, and one unacceptable behavior is going off and marrying non-Sikhs. Instead of sitting under a banyan tree in the village, we've electronicized the conversation, and are expressing what's unacceptable behavior in that way. As for Sukhwinder, yeah, you're right, it's pointless to think we'll bring her back. We won't. But the point is by expressing disapproval of Sukhwinder, we'll helping to stop the next Sukhwinder, either someone who's reading this forum, or a friend of someone reading this forum. It's accepted that there are always outlier cases, such as Ram Rai (renegade son of Guru Har Rai Ji). What we're trying to prevent is the wholesale destruction of our faith community by intermarriage with Muslims (or Hindus or others). Sure, some attention should be paid to mental issues. But I don't think that 99% of Sikh girls marrying Muslims are because they have some mental disorder. Rather, I think 99% of them are in full command of their mental faculties, they simply choose to show their backs to their community because that's how they've been socialized.
