  2. Jaspal Singh, an 18 year old Sikh Boy, was an Engineering Student and was killed by Punjab Police, while he was peacefully protesting against hanging of Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana. In a related video on what is going on in Punjab, one can clearly see bunch of Punjab Policemen brutally beating and firing gun shots at unarmed Sikh youth who are running away to save their lives. And what is more appalling is that these Police Officers are themselves turbaned, and so at the least they look Sikh. So that leads me to the question - Why was an 18 year old Sikh Engineering Student shot dead by State Police, while he was clearly unarmed and was peacefully protesting? In an oppressive regime, there are broadly 2 ways in which a minority can survive. For the ease of understanding, let us classify the people belonging to the minority faith into Type 1 and Type 2 people. Type 1 people wake up every morning, and then make an effort to prove their allegiance to the Majority led State Establishment in every possible way. A simple example would be to sit in the middle of your friends, and crack jokes at your community, and show them that even though I am a Sikh and look different, but I am a harmless, spineless creature and hence, you don’t need to fear me. In return, these people are rewarded by the State, sometimes even offered leadership positions in the Government. Case in point is Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who has proved that he is the weakest Prime Minister that India has ever had. I can go on and on about Manmohan, but that would be digressing from the point. Type 1 people come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes, these people in their urgent and desperate need to appease the majority would commit the most heinous atrocities on people belonging to their own faith. The name of Prakash Singh Badal, the Punjab Chief Minister immediately comes to my mind. Other names include the so-called Butcher of Punjab, the super cop – KPS Gill and ex-Chief Minister of Punjab Beant Singh. It is not surprising that whenever Badal is in position, even peacefully protesting Sikhs are attacked and murdered ruthlessly in broad day light. This phenomenon is not new. Two Sikh boys were killed on March 29, 2012; however in the past also, 13 peacefully protesting Sikhs were shot dead in 1978, during Badal’s regime. How Badal protected the murderer of 1978 Sikh victims would be a topic of another discussion. One of the video very clearly shows the Punjab Police chasing and attacking peacefully gathered Sikh youth. They are firing as if they are at war, at war with the Civilian Sikhs, who are all hiding and running away for their lives. On their return, these so called police officers are hugged and cheered by the Shiv Sainiks, who are shouting slogans and chanting “Har Har Mahadev”; and hence these Type 1 Sikhs feel comforted by the precious approval of Shiv Sena that they have attained by attacking and firing gun shots at unarmed protestors. For me, the face of Type 2 Sikhs is people like Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana, as well as the people who are protesting to show solidarity with him. Such people would rather die than accept an oppressive regime, where the mass-murderers of Sikhs are protected and rewarded, while innocent Sikh civilians are killed in a State Sponsored Genocide. For me, the face of the Type 2 Sikhs is a young boy shown in one of the videos. This boy is clearly unarmed, but he is not even running away or hiding for protection, when the policemen attack him. He is just standing their quietly and taking pride in being beaten brutally by the Police Officers because he does not expect anything else but gross injustice from the Indian Justice System. These Type 2 Sikhs are not irrational or stupid; instead they just want to live with their head held high. They demand justice. They want to see the perpetrators of 1984 genocide convicted and punished. They want to see the people who killed thousands of innocents in Punjab during 1990’s through fake encounters and illegal abductions being punished; and until that happen there cannot be any sustainable peace.

  6. Don't let your emotions dictate your actions (especially to the sisters/brothers in Punjab), think and then take the appropriate steps. Talk softly and carry a big stick and know when not to use the big stick. The Shiv Sena dogs are looking for Sikhs to react in anger, don't let this happen. There's a difference between spontaneously reacting and acting with your brains. Think, think and think before anything and always look at the bigger picture and the future. Learn the game and play it better, it's not too hard to win, we just need peace and unity. This will be a media war and Sikhs will need to organize and think how even the smallest action can and will effect future events.

  7. The Sikh nation has no shortage of professors and doctors that love to analyze Sikh philosophy, history, society, politics, etc. They aren't shy about giving their opinion on how Sikhs fit into the world, or their criticism of certain aspects of Sikh and non-Sikh society. Some of their thoughts are quite insightful, while some make you cringe. Many of them are outspoken critics of the Indian government. They have come to defend against the tarnishing Sant ji's name, and many have lead us to introspective discussions to re-discover the beauty of Sikhi. However, where do they disappear to when we need them to lead? Where are they hiding now? The "uneducated" people that they look down upon are the ones marching and dying in the streets. They are the ones who look after the gurdwaras and do seva for the community. The intellectuals will surely give their analysis when the bodies have piled up and the carnage is over, BUT WHERE ARE YOU NOW?

  8. Over 150-year old historical temple of Baba Karam Singh was demolished overnight by the land mafia in Mardan The 35 feet tall national heritage was turned into debris in the native town of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ameer Haider Hoti. A well and some old constructions around the temple were also demolished by the land grabbers. The temple of Baba Karam Singh, built in 1846, is considered one of the holy places for the people belonging to Sikh religion. The Sikh community of the province has demanded reconstruction of the temple and also protection to the other sacred places for them.

  14. 3 points I would like to make The same police never so much as slapped angry hindu mobs on the wrist when they were burning sikhs alive [84] or muslims [2002] Police could have used Tear gas / rubber bullets or fired gun shots in the air to disperse the singhs. India spends millions on state of the art weapons, can't it spend like one million dolloars to train its riot police ? The real reason is Badal/BJP/Shiv Saina wanted to send a message all across punjab (and maybe all over India) - that if you gather and raise voice, you will be brutally and ruthlessly crushed.

  15. lol. Jokes aside... despite their cosmetic inadequacies the Punjab cops are pretty tough mofos. If faced with aggression, they normally just lob a few tear gas shells and when the mob disperses they give chase and pick up any stragglers. If you are unlucky or silly enough to get caught on your own, you can expect a pretty merciless 5 on beating one beating with lathis and a trip to hospital. If Sikhs organise themselves like the UK student protestors or GU summit and put the cops on the back foot they will just escalate and up the ante.. ie shoot to kill. I suppose Sikhs could arm themselves with slingshots and makeshift shields and organise themselves a bit better. To be honest I think that big aggressive crowds are a big no no. Also taking on the police is serious business and shouldnt really be the focus of whats happening on the streets. As someone said earlier, I would rather that a few small organised groups were ambushing the Shiv Sainiks here and there and giving them a few targeted beatings. Preferably they should film it and put in on youtube so at least the violence looks balanced and Sikhs dont end up getting humiliated so much.

  16. Can we really blame them? Look what happened last time when they tried to mind their own business. Maybe they think by making a lot of noise will scare any potential trouble-makers away? @ confusedsengh - Some surprise attacks on police officers wouldn't go amiss - obviously those without guns... Once you start attacking Shiv Sena activists, you could easily have them turn "victim" and start complaining to TV cameras that Sikhs are trying to butcher us innocent, working-class Hindu folk. :biggrin2: Shiv Sena is an annoying splinter stuck in a thumb. They will eventually pipe down. The true problem is the police - or the "polse" as they're called back home.

It seems that 2012 is going to be no different with the ongoing conflict in Syria, and now it looks like the people's need for justice and dignity is reaching closer to home - our beloved Punjab. As with all these conflicts, propaganda is rife. There are already examples of this in the mainstream media (Western and Indian) making out Sikhs as terrorists for protesting against Sardar Balwant Singh Rajoana’s death penalty set for 31st March. In the Indian media Sikhs are being described as ‘radicals’ (unfortunately this is not a recent thing), while in the mainstream western media the tool often used is ‘omission’ of the background and context to understand the issues, effectively forcing viewers or readers to form a shallow and often misinformed view. Two attempts to rebalance address this mainstream view are linked below: An excellent article with background to the case and sources: http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/jasdev-singh-rai/death-penalty-in-the-land_b_1370903.html An thoughtful article by a non-Sikh on the issue: http://www.thehindu.com/opinion/op-ed/article3255057.ece

  19. SC refuses clemency for Balwant Singh Rajoana New Delhi: In a major blow to the Punjab government, the Supreme Court refused on Friday to give clemency to the convicted Beant's Singh killer is to be hanged on Mar 31. This decision may trigger violence in the region. Yesterday, the protests in lieu to Balwant Singh Rajoana's clemency turned ugly after an individual was killed and another injured in police firing on Thursday. The two groups clashed over clemency for Rajoana, a convict in the assassination case of former Chief Minister Beant Singh. Prohibitory orders were clamped and police and paramilitary forces personnel conducted flag marches in parts of Punjab which was on high alert after a Chandigarh court ordered that Balwant Singh Rajoana, convicted in Beant Singh killing, be hanged as scheduled on March 31. http://daily.bhaskar.com/article/PUN-NEWS-sc-refuses-clemency-for-balwant-singh-rajoana-3036289.html?HT1= http://www.deccanherald.com/content/238296/sc-refuses-entertain-clemency-plea.html http://hillpost.in/2012/03/30/apex-court-dismisses-plea-to-stay-rajoanas-death-sentence/43203/latest-news/hp_bureau

  20. Wasn't there a witness on Sikh Channel yesterday saying that the shot come from the direction of the police. Also i'm no expert but cant you match the bullet to the type of gun it was shot from? So if it was shot from the police, i'm sure you can trace it. But this being India, i'm sure absolutely no inquiry will be done and it will be all swept under the carpet. Possibly with some policemen receiving medals for the 'bravery' they shown against these 'rioters' And then they wonder why we want Khalistan

  23. The situation of Punjab is quickly escalating into a lot of violence and a lot of videos and news is being circulated in an unorganized manner. In hopes to organize the material with hopes to establish proof against human rights violators in Punjab it is essential to document ALL abuses, whether it is with a video camera or the pen. Keep a video camera on you at all times and don't be afraid to use it. Upload all documented footage onto YouTube for others to download. For Sikhs in general with internet access, go to www.KeepVid.com and download all videos you see where beadbi or rights violations occur to ensure they are not lost. Once the video is downloaded take pictures of frames from the video where police officers or beadbi offenders are shown. An example: Try to find videos (even the example I posted) and post as many screenshots you can with a caption telling the name of the video or event.

  24. Here is a video where the police of punjab are patting Hindu Terrorist group (most likely Shiv Sena) members on the back after two Sikhs are killed. It is obvious that the Punjab police have sided with Hindu terrorist groups and are attacking Sikhs for them. The Sikhs in Punjab need to keep cool. Singho you need to use tactics now. Going out and doing rallies in the streets has long past. Now you need to make groups, get organized and defend yourselves. Never start a fight and never be verbally abusive to anyone. Never fear these hindu terrorist groups, never put fear in them, and never hate them. The whole Panth is hurting because two of our Sikhs are Shaheed, but this is not a reason to act out in anger. Keep your cool and be smart about this. The Panth in the west is doing what we can by making government officials, news organizations aware of what is going on in Punjab. The oppression the SIkhs are facing in Punjab is not being covered up. The videos are being sent to the right people. The Sikhs in Punjab just need to keep their cool and act ONLY in defense of themselves and others. Think long term here. To get revenge is a Sikhs right and the Sikhs of Punjab need to obtain this by using tactics. Do not act in anger, it will only cause more Sikhs to become Shaheed. Stand united and let the dust settle. Once it does, then act in appropriate manner, only in defense. The Punjab Police are using tricks to get you killed. If you leave your anger behind and act with a cool head, then they can't provoke you. They are going to swear at Sant ji, they will swear at Bhai Sahib, and at our Gurus, they will write slander on the walls, but don't let your anger get the best of you. Sant Baba Jarnail Singh ji Khalsa never acted in anger and always kept cool.

  25. Karkoosingh, pajis original post is correct, the sword is raised to defend or protect.. bhai bhanda singh used his sword to stop atrocities for occurring again.. raising the sword has to be used to reach a positive humanitarian/social outcome not to appease our desire for revenge or blood thirstyness. Before we raise our swords in the current situation the world needs to be shown who the tyrant is, means we can't be vilified and then slaughtered again under the false portrayal as a terrorist. Khalsa comes from khalis meaning shud. Shud = righteous/pure. That's the bar guru ji set for his soldiers not just his brahmgianis. Wjkwjkf

  26. They should also tell the Sikh protestors to use their hosh rather than josh when dealing with ravan sena, who are just waiting to give someone a hiding. I mean what is the point of waving a barsha around in a senaks face, either do him or just dont wave it around. If you gonna give the police a reason to shoot you , you might as well take one of theirs with you.

  27. Well for starters, -They should declare these innocent protestors who were protesting - shaheed. - They should give money and counselling to the family of those who were killed by punjab police. - Secure all the video/picture evidences - They should hire top notch lawyers of india to press charges against punjab police and drag them to court. Rest is open to everyone's imagination - with huge annual revenue of SGPC. I am always amazed amount of problems in punjab. Every protestor in punjab should carry hidden cameras on their shirt always recording either via cell phone or stand alone camera. Make camera/pictures/videos speak the thousand words. For sangat abroad- name each and every video which highlights injustice/human right abuses done by police in india - name titled- india tourism, travel india, incredible india and re-upload them on youtube with those hash tags(excellent idea by sarabhdapunjab veer member on ss)..we really need to be tech savvy here, lets manipulate search results on youtube reflecting recent abuses in punjab by punjab police.

  31. What can be expected from such govt., where all the murderers are still roaming scott-free? If we demand justice we get jails, torture, extra judicial killings, fake encounters in thousands, loss of property worth crores, attack on the holiest & most sacred places like Darbar sahib, Akal Takth sahib, genocide (1984) where thousands in number were massacred in 110 cities of 18 states. Even after 28 years, justice is denied to the 1984 genocide victims by the so called world's largest democracy & longest written constitution. On one side the butchers (genocide 1984) are roaming free or given life-sentences or released early from the prison on the other the people asking for justice are hanged. Militancy breeds there, where there is violation of human rights, where justice is doubtful and verdict is biased. Politicians & political conditions create a fertile ground for militants/extremists. May Akaal Purkh bless our panth heros.....

  35. there are some fake sants who have associated themselves with nanaksar –(this is no secret), but we must not dismiss the fact that a number of great mahapurash are correctly acknowledged by the nanaksar (and wider) sikh sangat (the most prominent being sant baba nand singh ji). in my view it is wholly inappropriate for any Sikhs to diss nanaksar. nanaksar sikhs have limitless respect for gurbani sahib and Guru Granth Sahib ji maharaj. in general they are very pious and very devoted to bhagti and gurbani. Nanaksar gutka's contain sampooran nitnem bani's. i dont know much about sant nahar singh but i do know that any sikhs who diss nanaksar need their heads testing. Rather then diss nanaksar by saying 'true amritdharis are against them', focus your mind on your own bhagti or if this is too hard, spread awareness against the real poisonous fake deras and not organisations those that promote 'sabh sikhan ko hukam hai guru manio granth'. "He is a fool that does not recognise Dhan Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji as Satguru Nanak Himself" -Sant Baba Nand Singh Ji note: although the topic is about baba nahar singh, i responded because some user above thought it would be appropriate to plant seeds for an anti-nanaksar campain – which is a pointless, backward, unproductive and damaging initiative that the Sikh quam can do without.

One major lesson that Sant Baba Nand Singh Ji taught us, is the respect for Sri Guru Granth Sahib ji Maharaj, I have done Darshan of the ashaan where Babaji held divaan other than Nanaksar Jagroun. every place had a beautiful takhat for Guru Sahib and Babaji used to sit lower than the sangat in a type of pot hole which was 4foot by 4foot. Babaji often said when requested to sit on the stage with the Ragi's so that the sangat could do there darshan 'I wouldn't dare sit on a stage infornt of Guru Sahib my place is here l'm lower than the sangat, my darshan is not need Guru Granth Sahib ji is all that we need' Then Babaji used to say when people asked them, that they want to become there disciples, Baba ji said mereh cheleh why! I am still begging Guru Gobind Singh Sachepaathsaha ke menu apna sikh banalo, Im still trying to become a good sikh. What humbleness Babaji had.
