  1. I quit - here's how. I was not the binging type (not since my student days many years ago) but enjoyed my evening peg regularly. I wanted to read Gurbani from my Gutka which had for a long time remained on a shelf in my study wrapped in a cloth. But on days when alcohol had been in my system (or was going to be later that day) I just felt too ashamed to even look at it, let alone want to handle and read the sacred bani. Day by day my longing grew and then I started to read. Soon I developed a regular nitnem and at that point I realised that the True Elixir that Guruji had placed before me replaced the false elixir of sharab. I had stopped and it had been a while - I never missed it. When I was with family, it felt good to say - "not one for me - I don't drink.' It was liberating. Some people really got touched when I explained why.

  2. DHANN DHANN SAHIB SRI GURU TEGH BAHADUR PATSHAH JEE MAHARAJ !!!!! This poem is for few of those Hindus who have completely forgotten the unparallel sacrifice of Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib For you He left His family, His son, His wife For you He didn’t hesitate to sacrifice His life For you He courted arrest, and suffered all tortures To fill your life with the roses of happiness, and joy filled orchards For you He saw His Sikhs sawn and boiled The hands of the Mughals with blood were soiled For you He refused all pleasures and comforts And accepted the pains that can shake all hearts For you He rejected proposals of wealth So that your generations could thrive in health For you He sacrificed His body and His head So that you could live fearlessly and earn your bread Have you forgotten all He has done His people you made the object of fun Have you forgotten the legacy of His martyrdom that to the oppression of His people you act deaf and dumb? Have you forgotten His sacrifice, oh so complete! That today His message for you has become totally obsolete! Have you forgotten that He is your saviour Or the Mughals would do to you what else but devour Forget not the One who saved you Protected your honor and carried you through Forget not the One who took all the pains Death for Himself, for you all the gains Forget not the One who had His head severed Today His people are mocked by you, instead of being revered Wake up my dear, before its too late Your silence and indifference is ruining your own fate Wake up my dear, or you will pay a cost Hatred will fume and all love will be lost Wake up my dear, and recognize this fact What He did for you was an ultimate act! Wake up my dear, wake up and bow down Bow down to the Master of Sikhs, the Sikhs whom you labeled a clown Wake up my dear, and say after me Say with your heart and you will be free Dhann Guru Teg Bahadur, tu Hind di chaddar Tu hi sadda sacha patshah tu hi sadda rehbar -Mehtab Singh (2003 - when daas wasn't Mehtab Singh)

  6. Dhan Dhan Guru Nanak Dev Ji - who in their 1st form rejected the Janeu, in order to propagate the true Dharam through showing how to live (with Bibek Buddi), and who in their 9th form, gave their life for the same Janeu, in order to demonstrate how to die (with daya and bahadari) to uphold the Dharamic principles of freedom. He protected the janeu and tilak of the Hindus, It was a great event in the modern ages. For the sake of humankind, he sacrificed himself. He laid down his head but not his creed Bachittar Natak Nauven Paatshah also exemplified a courageous principle which many of us lack today - that of keeping ones word - promising to help someone (those whose arms we hold, give your head, but don't let go of their arms...) "Chit charan kamal ka asra chit charan kamal sang-joriai, mana lochai buriaian guru sabadi mana horiai, banhjinah dipakariai sir dijai ban a na chhoriai, Guru Tegh Bahadur bolia dhar paiai dharam na chhoriai." These ithihaasik days should be spent pondering on the deep underlying principles that lead to these great events. We should listen, read (learn) and apply. Keep your minds attuned to his lotus feet, and stop being a slave to the craving sinful desires of the mind - drown that same mind in the ocean of Gurbani and allow the same great principles lived by our Guru Sahiban to slowly manifest in our gifted lives.

  7. Leicester is home to the first registered Sikh musuem in Europe, it was opened at Guru Nanak Gurdwara in the early 90's. Same Gurdwara Sahib the Queen visited for her Golden jubliee year 10 years back. It is Leicester oldest Gurdwara dating back over half a century but second largest. Leicester has a huge Indian population, it is predicted to be the first CITY in the UK where whites will be a minority. Obviously the highest proportion of ethnic miniorities is Gujarati Hindus, followed by Gujarati (Kutchi) Muslims it has a high number of Sikhs. Infact more so than most cities apart from London and then Birmingham. At the moment the Diwali lights are up, there is no city in the UK where the Diwali light turn on attracts more visitors than the Chritstmas light turn on. About 30 - 35,000 people attend. Diwali Day itself a similar if not more number of people attend. Biggest Diwali celebrations outside of India. Leicester is a very multicultural city it has the second biggest carnival after Notting Hill. It has many other non Sikhi attractions including excellent shopping if you have been sucked into maya like me there are many designer shops which other cities do not evem have. Also the National Space Centre is worth a visit. Canadagoose Leicester is not boring, ?

Then I saw the same leaflets on the floor being stepped on with bani on them. I picked all the ones i could see up. Just a benti please don't print bani and pictures on leaflets. Just think about what people do, throw it on the floor.

  10. My family is really messy and stuff and its always me cleaning up after them. When I ask my sister or so if she could clear her mess she says ''if you are so concerned, why don't you go do it'' its the same with my parents. I have to tidy all the rooms in the house otherwise it would be a complete pigsty. My dad praises me for doing this but he doesn't ever at least do his bed or move his chapla outside. Don't even get me started on my sister... How can I get them to at least do their beds? Our house is a tip and it looks horrible. I am also a guy is this weird for a guy to be clean??

  16. I know that it is being engineered according to an evil plan for pure control but it will not reach desired conclusion but will lead to a historical disaster because they are not the real engineers of the world and certainly not the Gods which they think they are by doing so. Evil never succeeds forever as good has to prevail at some point. We are engineered by the Lord of the Universes by word ‘Oankaar’ which made the galaxies of stars and planets. He is the real designer, engineer and controller of everything. Without His will there is no input, there is no output, there is no control of the output with the reference of Him. Mystically, He himself is the input, output and controller. Everything including what we see now is according to His will and the Khalsa Raj is also His will. Sikhi came into existence not for just Punjabis or North Indians but for the whole humanity to get rid of the duality humans have in case of creator and true meaning of life. The duality humans have is that whatever is being done because of their own intellect. The result of the next major war is to make the humans understand who the real master and planner of the world is. The population after long chaos will start to find a way of life in which there is teaching of love and affection for others, can attain blissful life and a faith which explains the meaning and purpose of life. World will start finding their way of life in Sikhi by understanding the teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib which tells everyone regardless of their belief that the only true faith is to meditate on the name of Lord of Lords to attain self realisation and do selfless service to the humanity with humility. Please note: There is no place of caste system in sikhi. This transformation of understanding of Sikhi will be taken by surprise gradually but believe me it will not take a century (maximum a decade) - I will not explain how this will be so fast but before this the Sikhs will unite and will come together on one platform after feeling the need to come together in and after the harsh conditions of the coming war which will affect them in many ways. This Raj will not be governed by a bunch of people who have the knowledge of politics but are not religious and do not take the duty to serve their people but the governing body will be consisting of true Khalsa. I recommend you to read Bhai Rama Singh Ji’s book : Roop Govind Ka, Raj Khalse Ka, Sikka Sone Ka.

  17. I'm the total opposite. I appreciate your gentle tone but don't appreciate your posts. All they do is waste 5 minutes of my life. But you did take the sikhchic article at face value. Thats why you started your thread with a criticism of the UK Sikhs for opposing him. The feelings of the forum members are a good indication of the popular feeling of UK Sikhs and as you can see something like 9 out of 10 UK Sikhs are opposed to Dhundha for causing division among the Sikhs. Logic's not your strong point fella. Its no secret that Gurdwara Committee's are the biggest threat to Sikhism in the west today. They organise alcohol parties in gurdwara halls....they organise stopovers in Hindu Temples to do pooja during nagar kirtans. Why is it that you expect them to listen to their sangat's concerns when it comes to Dhundha ? I already mentioned your lack of observation skills in my first message so there's no need to go over old ground. I visit Canada often as I have as many close relations there on the west coast as I do in England. How is it that my eyes can see the Ramgharia Gurdwaras there whilst your eyes cannot ? In fact I've seen them all over Canada, from Vancouver to Toronto. You may need to get out more often. You might then see the many chamar gurdwaras there also. You don't have the Bhatra or Afghan Gurdwaras because you don't have enough of them in large numbers. For example, the UK does not have any Labana Gurdwara because there are not enough of them here. How silly would we then be to look at the situation in America and their separate Labana temples and come to the conclusion that America is fractured along caste lines ? Whatever level of sillyness that would be you can take it that you are at that level. I've already talked about perception skills and you, so lets not go over that again. Poetic licence. The need to wax lyrical sometimes requires taking liberties otherwise the comedic value of the message which gives it potency is lost. Having said that though, are we to assume that T.Sher Singh has nothing else to do in his life so has sole responsibility to edit the comments on sikhchic on a full time basis ? Does he not know anyone else ? So many questions. Here's some more : Is it T. Singh ? or Sher Singh ? Or is it a fella with the middle name of Sher and thus not a Singh at all ? So am I. But seeing how I am neither a bhatra nor the president of the bhatra appreciation society it is something you'll have to take up with them themselves. You'll have to ask why they keep mentioning their old dravidian language on their websites and you'll probably have to ask the descendents of Denzil Ibbetson and Horace Rose why their great-grandfathers made similar statements in the late 1800's in their 'Glossary of the tribes of the Punjab' in which they articulate how the bhatras moved up to the Punjab after Guru Nanak Dev ji's missionary trip to Sri Lanka. Curiosity is no bad thing Singhster, but you know it is something that can be satisfied with a bit of reading.

  20. Vaheguru Ji Ka Khalsa! Vaheguru Ji Ki Fateh! Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji describes the sacrifice made by the Ninth Guru in their autobiography titled Sri Bachitter Natak; ‘He protected the forehead mark and sacred thread (of the Hindus) which marked a great event in the Iron age. For the sake of saints, he laid down his head without even a sign.13. For the sake of Dharma, he sacrificed himself. He laid down his head but not his creed. The saints of the Lord abhor the performance of miracles and malpractices. 14. Breaking the potsherd of his body head of the king of Delhi (Aurangzeb), He left for the abode of the Lord. The whole world bemoaned the departure of Tegh Bahadur. The whole world grieved at the Guru’s departure, the gods hailed the Guru’s arrival in heavens.16’. (Dasam Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, Ang 131) Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur sitting in a small iron cage watching Bhai Mati Das being sawn in half. Even once his body was in two pieces, the Gurus hymns could still be heard resonating from Bhai Mati Das. The names of those who sacrificed their lives at Delhi continue to serve as a great source of inspiration for Sikhs, it is fitting that the names of those who are noted as great martyrs of the Sikh faith also symbolically represent the qualities of the creed of Sikh warrior that was required to face the challenges which would confront the Sikhs in the years preceding their great sacrifice. The names of the Ninth Guru’s three companions represent the following qualities; good intellect (mat), truthfulness (sat) and compassion (dyal). Thus, as is seen many time in Sikh history, and indeed the history of other religious traditions, historical fact and spiritual symbolism are often hand in hand... Listen here my little friend here's just a snippet of some facts about maas: - lord Nadar can twist Gurbani to fit in with his manmukhi all you like, but remember what Maharaj says about fool arguing about meat. And while we're at it, why did you not even address nadars penchant for the devils nectar?? Not Sukha, but Chivas Regal??? - Raw Meat tastes like it come out of the animals own back side! that's why it needs to be cooked and seasoned where as veggies taste beautiful raw - Waheguru never designed your teeth to break up raw Maas, hence why you need to cook it to make it softer. - all the germs and disease of the animal are inside it when you stick it's muscles, joints and flesh in to your body Just a little taster, plenty more for you should you want to engage me! Your sincerely Shaheed Singh aka "The last living Joothi Vidiya master in Southall"

  25. _Singhhster_, in order to do well in this world it is vital to cultivate your perception and observation skills. It is vital ti be able to understand what motive an individual or organisation may have for telling you something. Then, you will be in a position to be able to judge how much of what they say is actually the truth. Lets take that article from Sickchic for example. It tells you that those who oppose Dhundha are 'hoolgans' even though it was the dhunda supporters who were paid thugs. It tells you that the 'local sangat' supported Dhundha even though it was the local sangat who opposed him. You will do well to understand who is telling you what and why they are telling you it. They're smart for doing so. The rather silly and simple one would be you for falling for the trick. And btw....things are not "fractured along caste lines more in the UK". Its just that the UK diaspora is a far more varied group than in your neck of the woods. Here, a very many and varied background multitude of Sikh groupings exist in massive numbers. As such, there are a multitude of dialects, customs and even home-languages spoken by the UK Sikh community. This is not a 'fracture'. This is merely a much more heterogeneous society of Sikhs compared to your homogeneous one. You see, learning things is easy. The hard bit, and what is probably one of the hardest things in the world to accomplish, is being able to get a message opposing something written on sikhchic published on sikhchic. Achieving such a thing is indeed a great mystery. The greatest mystery of all however, is the identity of the man or woman that edits comments on sikhchic. A supposed master of the English language with the magical ability to change a comment to such an extent that the content not only becomes unrecognisable to the author it ceases to have the same meaning as originally intended. This great master - obviously the product of an elite private education in India - that doesn't seem to understand the western nuances of the English language and how it has evolved since the days of Dickens. Perhaps one day the identity of the said editor will be revealed. At the moment it is merely a mystery and we can only speculate. I personally think it is the ghost of either Mark Twain or Edgar Allen Poe. I would be shocked if it turns out to be a product of the 20th century.

  26. ok guys if we could keep the comments to the topic and not get offensive or abusive, our aim is not to ridicule, insult or hurt anyone lets do this like sensible Gurmukhs and just stick to proving that sanatan ideology is wrong, that is all. I know a lot of people have upset about nidars teaching and his students cheekyness for many years but i have urged everyone to stand down and let us do this peacefully and with intelligence, by disproving the ideology with gurbani and evidence. At the end of the day some of his students will listen some will not even read the articles, if some want to leave Nidar then we need to be more welcoming and be able to sit with them in a civilised manner and have a conversation without getting angry like a pindu and just hurling abuse. always maintain composure and always remain calm - The Gurus never lost composure, spoke sternly but always remained calm and at ease, with conviction as they knew no matter what anyone says the Truth will Always be Truth and if not proven here it will be proven in the afterworld, in front of the Satguru, all the bhagats, dharam raja, the devtey and other wordly beings. please do not be abusive as I seek answers and do not want to drive any of his students away...... just because they are brainwashed by nidar does not mean they are not good decent people aswell.. Gurmukh Vair Virodh Gavavai Akaal ji Sahai!

  27. Who to believe? The grandson of people who lived in Guru Ji's time and a man who was raised in a Sikh country and by Khalsa standards and no foreign influence - or today's Sikhs who grow up in Christian and Hindu countries and commit blasphemy by mutilating Gurbani to suit their own agendas? Hmm, that's a hard one.

You don't have to be 3HO to send your kids there, any one from anywhere is welcome as long as the fees are covered. We should envy such an establishment because I certainly wish that I could have been educated there.

  32. WJKK WJKF hey guys ive always wondered y ppl r born disabled? ive never really seen this question ever asked, even when there is a topic on disability, no one has asked this question, i believe. All uk sikhs, particularly football fans may remember, former england football coach glenn hoddle, gettin sacked from his job for sayin that, he believes ppl r born disabled, coz of their wrong actions from their past lives. The media i remember was in uproar at this comment, and he subsequently lost his prestigious/lucrative job. this is his actual comment from an interview: "My beliefs have evolved in the last eight or nine years, that the spirit has to come back again, that is nothing new, that has been around for thousands of years. You have to come back to learn and face some of the things you have done, good and bad. There are too many injustices around." "You and I have been physically given two hands and two legs and half-decent brains. Some people have not been born like that for a reason. The karma is working from another lifetime. I have nothing to hide about that. It is not only people with disabilities. What you sow, you have to reap." "You have to look at things that happened in your life and ask why. It comes around." In my opinion, Im not a brilliant sikh, but i do know, that all crimes/goodness a person commits in his lifetime, carries over into the next, coz it is ur soul which is everpresent, not ur physical body, right? the only thing from this is, r ppl born disabled as a pnishment, or is it pure lottery? When this story broke, these goreh were horrified wen he came out with these comments, i though reckon, if he had sed this, in asia, no one wudda battered an eyelid, jus these abrahamic folks. So wat duz sikhi say bowt this? Why are disabled ppl born disabled? and is wat glenn hoddle sayin, in accordance with dharmic religions (sikhi, hindu & buddhism)? http://news.bbc.co.u...ball/270194.stm thank u.

  33. Sherdil, you make the most common mistake of saying how can God be fair when so many disasters take place to people who you say are innocent. I am not saying they are innocent or they deserved it. I'm give you a example that we both agree to a certain degree. We both know gravity is the law and the truth. You jump and you will come back down because of gravity. Jump off of a bridge and the body will go splat. This is the law of the earth. No one can say this won't happen. Anyone that does not accept this, simply is crazy. Now lets look at Gurbani. Gurbani is the law and truth of what God is and how to reach God. This law and truth cannot be denied by anyone. Sri Mool Mantar Sahib says Sri Vaheguru Ji Maharaj is without fear and without hatred. These two attributes clearly tell us that Sri Vaheguru Ji Maharaj is fair. Very quickly a Sikh should learn that Gurbani is THE truth. In order to try to understand this truth I need to become content with this truth. If i am not content, then i can't progress is understanding Gurbani. Just how someone is not content with the law of gravity, they can't progess on understanding gravity further. You will be constantly fight the truth, where you will lose every time. Once your mind has given up fighting against Gurbani and said finally....Gurbani is the truth, then you can begin contemplating over Gurbani. Reading your post, you clearly show that you are fighting against Gurbani. If you keep fighting then you will constantly get grieve in your life. Anger will always take over and your ego will always drag you to deny Gurbani and accept self-made theories, which have no Gurbani support. Karma are hard to understand because then we need to talk about Hukam. Hukam of Sri Vaheguru Ji Maharaj can't be understood. It needs to be experienced. When Sri Vaheguru Ji Maharaj created every soul, which soul did bad or good? Who was given wealth and who was given poverty? Who did Sri Vaheguru Ji Maharaj love and who did he hate? Where did the soul of the person come from and where will it go? Who gave to receive and who took to be taken? Is one soul different from another? Who created good and bad? Sri Vaheguru Ji Maharaj created this mystery where only a few get to understand in a life time. Ever thought........if everything is created in Sri Vaheguru Ji Maharaj, then what gets destroyed? Before you answer ask yourself what needs to be destroyed? Can't a evil person be turned into a Saint in a split second. Can't a bad deed be erased? When creation gets absorbed back into Sri Vaheguru Ji Maharaj, then what is left to exist? The disease is ignorance and the cure is Gurbani. My mind is very young and very ignorant of Gurbani; the truth. However with Satguru's kirpa i have become content with Gurbani. Why are some born disabled? A million reasons can be given, but the mind will not be satisfied. Only thing that will satisfy the mind is doing Naam Simran. Sometimes not having an answer is actually bowing to Sri Vaheguru Ji Maharaj in the most beautiful and humble way. Don't need to chase, when the time is right Sri Vaheguru Ji Maharaj presents all knowledge.
