Christmas has absoutely nothing and I repeat nothing to do with Sikhism. People on Sikh Sangat only want to celebrate Christmas because most of them are living in Christian majority nations, whether culturally or religiously. I don't see Christians celebrating Baisakhi and walking with us in our Nagar Kirtan, expect for the few politicians which are done for political reasons obviously.

Babbar Shere, please keep it up brother. You are keeping the Khalsa Spirit alive. :WW: Peacemaker, seriously dude, I have already dealt with you before, and I say it one last time, stop trying to play GOD and telling people what to do, or what to say. You seriously are annoying member on this website. Everytime I read your posts you are either complaining, or telling people what to write. Get a LIFE man, either do your job properly at work, or go get some fresh air for that thick head of yours. rolleyes.gif

i just wanted to know how many sikh families celebrate christmas?

do you guys celebrate it, for some reason i dont know why christmas always has a feeling to it. maybe the environment were in.

i never have the same feeling for vaisakhi nor for our guru's birthdays. maybe because there is no exact way of celebrating it.

i think my fam spends more time together at christmas than any other time, we dont spend that much time together at gurpurabs.

on xmas day we have a family dinner n go to the gurudwara together, or visit some family, mainly cos theres none of us workin so theres no excuse and secondly on occasions such as gurpurabs we are juggling between work n gurudwara n will probs get home late after seva etc.

so xmas day seems to be a special day for us in that sense, xmas is commercialised now , most goray dont do it for religious reasons, infact alot of ppl see it as a period of getting drunk and over eating for a week or two up until new year, same for us, its just commercialised, and a time when we can think of each other, and companies can mke money for the presents we buy, but obviously we just make the most of the time we have free.............. im not sure if i would say we 'celebrate' it,

babbar....you didn't take the opportunity i gave you to do some research into Gurmat Ithaas

instead you came and attacked me for pointing out your weak points...challo that's okay...if you don't want to grow...then that's your wish...

but know this, it is a sin bigger than most, to claim that the great gurus said something or taught us something or showed us something which is totally false...

your false claims can be proven through simple research that you refuse to do...

secondly....you have this obsession in your posts where you keep pointing out why we don't put up a tree for vaisakhi....

putting up a tree isn't the highlight of a celebration...that's just a christmas thing...

on vaisakhi we go to gurdwara..we do our own thing...

to celebrate christmas doesn't equate automatically to putting up a tree

everyone has their own way to celebrate

you say that we are afraid to say fateh in public...i've never been afraid to say fateh to anyone in public...or to say what i am...the fact that i'm a visible sikh, shows in itself that i'm not afraid of putting my belief on my exterior....

you can't lump everyone in the same category which is what you tried to do, its a very elementary debating tactic, which doesn't make you look all that intelligent...

and to the comment made by someone saying christians don't celebrate vaisakhi...that's not true...

at my high school, there used to be a full anouncement on the PA system every vaisakhi and everyone was encouraged to ask the sikh students for more information...and every year..i had a tonne of goras come up to me and say happy vaisakhi...

i used to have friends insisting that i take the rest of the day off and that they'd cover for me....

so to say that christians don't join in with us, is false...again...you overgeneralized just like babbar did...

by the way babbar shere, Guru Tegh Bahadar sahib was named Tegbahadar because he was such a great swordsman...he learned all the martial arts...did you know guru sahib even had armies... if he wanted to he could have fought and killed his executors and everyone that was around there...but he didn't...his sacrifice was needed...

guru gobind singh ji created the khalsa...which is to be sant sipahi....notice the word sant comes first...and a sipahi protects the innocents, the ones who cannot protect themselves...even at the cost of his life...so how can that be self defence...when you're willing to lose the "self"...this might require deep thinking for you...

and you still haven't found the guru that was kicked and his response....it's funny that you accuse all of us who don't mind celebrating christmas about not knowing sikhi...but you cannot even research one sakhi from our gurmat ithaas...

ps...

Jesus Christ is reported to always carry a dagger on him...when he was arrested, he was with his disciples, and it was he who told them not to fight...he willingly went....any parallels???

don't be so quick to judge or draw conclusions if you don't know anything...

by the way....you also don't know much about the way gurbani is set up...

Fareed ji's bani is in saloks...each of those saloks is an all encompassing thought...and the next salok conveys another thought...hence each salok can be taken alone and done vichar on...

so akj veer wasn't wrong in posting the bani he posted...it is you who refuse to do vichar on it...

also if you're going to respond to this post...respond to specific things i say...don't try to be wishy washy...that isn't intelligent debating or discussion

First I want to thank you for giveing me an oppuritunity, because its a good thing you did, or else i would have been screwed. rolleyes.gif

Come on bro, look at the way you type, get over it.

Second you say i came at you and attacked you? where in my expalnation did i once say your name? where did i once refer that i was talking to you directly? read your post to me, and see how many times you used my name. Is that not attacking me? Then go and read my post, and tell me when I used your name, and how i "attacked" you.

putting up a tree is just a christmas thing huh? Well thats the point! were not christian!!!

you say my claims are false, and then go and say the same thing. i asked if we do paath on viasakhi, or kirtan, and then you say we go to guruduwara, and do our own thing. um is doint paath and kirtan not our own thing?

The part of us being afarid to say fateh in public is true for many many of us. And you say its not true for you. Did i say it was true for every single person? no, so you aknowleging that fact is "a very elementary debating tactic, which doesn't make you look all that intelligent" oh look at that, those are you own words!

Then you go towards christians celebrating viasakhi. you give example of your own school, well guesss what not every christian celebrates viasakhi! So to say that christians do join in vaisakhi may be true in YOUR situation. So YOU overgeneralized (your own word). If you are allowed to tell us that christians celebrate viasakhi by useing example from your school and state? why, are we not allowed to use example our school or state?? To bring up examples from your school and say that i was false for saying christians dont celebrate vaisakhi, would be overgeneralizing. I dont go your school, and i dont live in your state. So guess what that is "a very elementary debating tactic, which doesn't make you look all that intelligent". Once again, your own words.

Then you bring example of Guru Tegbahudur ji. And speak of his armies. ok, when did i say he wasnt a good swordsman or didnt have armies? When did I talk of armies?

Then you bring in the example of Sant Sipahi. Yes sant comes first, obviously that is what makes you the sipahi. When did i say anything against that? Yea a sipahi protects everyone. Including himself. So you bring up a point that how would that be self defence? Well then in your case if that Sipahi was getting attacked, he would not defend himself? And if he would defend him self, well that is called self defence.

You say that i accuse "all of you guys?" go back and tell me who have i accused? Tell me who have i targeted? show me where i have told anyone they dont know anything about sikhy? Tell me when i questioned how smart somebody was or how much knowledge a person has? In all my posts i did not do that, and you only posted 2wice, and both times did exactly that. Tell me does that make your more intelligent?

Ok, When did i say Jesus never had a dagger on him? When did i say that he did not go willingly? When did i say that Jesus was wrong for telling his desciples whatever he told them? But did Jesus tell everyone one of his desciples to carry a dagger? Did he tell everyone of his followers to carry weapons? No he did not, and thats the point that i made, That guru ji tell us to be shastrdhari.

So you bringing up the point of Guru Tegbahudur ji, and Jesus having a dagger is an intelligent way of debating. Because I said nothing agianst either one of those topics.

Not once in all of my posts did i tell anybody that they are wrong, or that they dont know about something, but you insists that i dont know anything, and i dont know how to debate. Does that make you more intelligent, by telling others they are not??

And your question about the sakhi. When did I say that I know every sakhi, or that I know alot about sikhi, or that I know more then others? This is a forum, and here some people will know some things, while other people know other things. So you asking me that as you testing my knowledge is pointless. Because I never tried to prove i was smarter then anyone else. So guess what?, that "a very elementary debating tactic, which doesn't make you look all that intelligent", oh look those are your words once again.

You seem to say you know alot about debating, and yet in all that i have posted^^^ above, some people may see otherwise.
