  1. Hi Guys I have not posted on here in a while. The past 8 months have been the worst in my life for me and my parents. Its like something out of a tv but its really happing to us.for me to cope withb this situation I go to Gudawara every week(Nanaksar Thath Isher Darbar) I spend normally 20-60 minutes in the Darbar listing to the Shabads which really does bring me inner peace . They are times when it looks like things have turned a corner but then we are delt with more problems honestly its like dealing with a never ending storm . Honestly I have no idea what to do.

  2. Veer ji, spending so much energy to dress up a certain way is not that important, in my opinion. Just wear whatever simple clothing you have.

  3. Sorry you’re going through this situation. If you don’t already, it would help to develop a Nitnem and do regular Simran every day. others like @Singh375 and @jkvlondonprobably can give more better advice based on Gurmat. If not already ensure you get counselling. Ensure you do regular exercise and sleep well. vaguely, is it Health-related? Finance-related ? Relatives-related ? or serious of ‘bad luck’ events ?

  4. Yes, and it is a bizarre choice. If I were to get married in another lifetime, I would never wear one of those silly outfits. I would anger people at every single stage of the process by refusing to conform to all the bs Punjabi conventions.

  5. That is totally his choice.

  6. Hey bro, by Vaheguru ji kirpa you are doing incredibly well. You received Amrit at young age, and from Sri Anandpur Sahib, wow that’s awesome! Amrit doesn’t ‘break’. All young people are the same, kaam is strong at that age. As for feeling down, honestly every person in this world is miserable and down. Life is harsh and unpredictable. Death doesn’t always come in old age it can come at any time. Daas is not from any Sikhi background at all. My younger brother passed when I was 9, that’s what started spiritual curiosity. Religion is a game, spiritually is something different. Maybe life has to be unduly cruel to show you deeper things. The purpose of human life was to merge back with Vaheguru. Kulyug, maya, 5 vikaar are absolute snakes which wrapped themselves around people to distract them of that purpose. Bro Vaheguru expressed his love towards you by arranging you meet Satguru ji. Now you gotta take strength and fight. Your strength will come from gurbani, sangat, seva, simran, keertan, katha. Sikhi history will give strength too. Guru Sahib Ji loves you so much, he sacrificed his chaar sahibzade for YOU. Focus on your relationship with Guru Sahib Ji. Love him back and trust him.

  7. No your amrit has not "broken" if you haven't committed any of kurehit of tann, physically. You mention kaam and mann, so I assume it is chetvan kaam. Worst you can get is a tankhah from panj piare otherwise. Biggest influence on your mann will be sangat around you, be sure to filter through your sangat and environment. Keep your head up Singh.

  8. Waheguru, here's my penny worth - It's fantastic at such a young age, 16, you are already doing Nitnem and have taken Amrit! That in itself is a feat! However, as you are now experiencing, there are going to be highs and lows. Gurbani (e.g. last pauri of Japji Sahib - Jat pahara...) refers to this situation and so does our history. When Dhan Dhan Dhan SatGuru Amar Das Ji Maharaj were managing the construction of the Boali Sahib at Goindwal Sahib, the Sikhs at the time would dig for many days at a time to help complete the Seva. One some days the digging would be easy, in that, the soil/earth would crumble easily and could be removed without much effort. On other days it would be much harder and seem near impossible. On some occasions it would need the intervention of Maharaj themselves. Have a listen to this as well. Hang in there. Don't stop your Nitneym at all costs

  9. I have a pal, whose just piled on weight to morbidly obese proportions over a couple years after getting married. Before getting hitched we trained together and he got trim. Is fat shaming okay in these circumstances? When I've approached the topic subtly, he's reacted flippantly. Is it now okay to be more straight up? PS - remember he is a bloke not a girl, I know how that stuff can mess their pretty heads up. So just talking about males here.

  10. In order to get ANYWHERE in your Jeevan it is vital to take out 2.5 hours for Akaal Purakh, on top of the 7 Daily prayers we all fondly and dutly do. 2.5 hours can be Mool mantar, Gurmantar (1.15 hour on each) or Gurmantar followed by one Sukhmani Sahib (this prayer takes an hour) or three Baanias from Dasam Granth (which could take an hour) followed by going Gurudwara for 1.5 hours of Simran, Seva and Sangat. In short no Matter what u select it should be 2.5 hours minimum, time excluded from 7 Baanias. Now, there are two dangers here. First, "I can't concentrate so I won't do it..." This is something I call Jargon. It's jargon because as soon as we think "Concentrate" we forget about the MAIN MAIN task at hand completely... Which is to do the Naam Simran or selected prayers. "I will do 30 mins woth focus then buold it up..." WRONG! Just do 2.5 straight, focus will come to u slowly. Second danger, "I don't have time" this is an excuse! You have 24 hours for 2.3 hours of Prayers. If u work from 8am you have all the time in Amritvela. To conclude, if u wish for your mann chanchalas to stop, jeevan to succeed, understand God's Hukam, be liberated, 2.5 is just the start.

  11. It gets deeper than that. Just a couple of weeks ago, a childhood friend of my brother passed away from a heart attack. He was always overweight and leaves children, and he weren't that old. 50 odd. So it impacts around.

  17. It is good to do spiritual practices, but please do no give the wrong picture of Guru Sahib wanting to punish for not getting up and do those practices. Guru Sahib is not any fascist nor any such cultist extremist to punish for not doing His bhakti. He has no such "laalach" for us to perform our devotion. Our relation with Him is of utter and unselfish love, that´s it. So what if one for some reason can not attend the regular time, it can be done at any other time, His doors are always open, there are no restrictions like school timings or work timings...or be it anything else. The Bani oftenly says: Aath pahaer aradheeyeh pooran Satgur gyan, so you see, at our physical level we are limited to many things, but, at His darbar, anytime is most welcome, provided we fulfill our daily devotion at His lotus feet. We must understand that, missing one day in our daily devotion, is the biggest penalty by itself. Singh Jee, your posts are usually inspirational, but here today I have to say, it is not correct the picture you have given of Guru Sahib, who is the embodiment of perfect and pure love, prem and mercy. That´s it.

  20. Guru Sahib Ji’s happiness is on completion of nitnem. When starting the journey of Sikhi my ardaas was Guru Sahib please wake me up at 6am to read Japji Sahib. (I started with Japji Sahib and built up to 5 baani slowly). Guru’s blessing at 6am my eyes automatically opened wide. It continued, each day my eyes open, when I look at clock it’s bang on 6am down to the second. One day (weekend) I got lazy that I’ll sleep 5 more mins and closed my eyes. I heard a voice ‘fine stay sleeping’. Then a crushing pain on my right leg. I was screaming and biting the duvet so my family didn’t hear. Hours I couldn’t move. Finally when it felt ok to move same thing happens on my left leg ? Either it was Guru Sahib or a Shaheed Singh punishing me I’m not sure Guru Sahib really aren’t happy if nitnem is missed ?

  21. OK, so as far as "normal" journeys (like driving from Los Angeles to San Diego or something), there's no reason you should have to miss your Nitnem. With long airplane journeys, especially where you're crossing the international date line and multiple time zones, it might be unclear when a "new day" starts for the purposes of doing Nitnem. So as long as you make a bona fide effort to do Nitnem, I don't think you can said to have "missed" your Nitnem. But don't go the entire journey of 22-24 hours (plus holdovers) and fail to do Nitnem just because you're "on a journey." when you get a chance, just wash up and do paath.

  22. However I do think that listening is also a good aid for memorising bani as well, such as in work situations, or trips and journeys. Also some people have longer nitnem, they do paat of Shabad Hazare and Shabad Hazare patshahi 10, Chaupai Sahib and even Benti Chaupai length may differ. they may also read an additional Swaiye staring Deenan Ki Pratipal, and some sampradaiye also read Chandi Di Vaar and Uggardanti as part of nitnem as well! Also for evening nitnem they may read very long Chaupai Sahib for Sodar Rehras as well as long Aarti Aarta afterwards, and for night Rakhiya deh Shabad along with Keertan Sohila.

  23. It’s so important we get nitnem kanth though. Listening is alright but you don’t want to have to rely on your phone for something as important as nitnem. What if your phone dies? It’s not hard to get nitnem baniyan memorised. I think all of us have chaupai sahib kanth, swvaiye sahib is also easy as its very small. Anand sahib is also fairly easy and japji saib is too, you just need to learn the order of pauris really, you’ll find many of us already know most of them. The problem for most people is jaap sahib. it took me half of a Sunday to get nitnem memorised completely. A singh told me to recite each pauri for every bani 10 times then recite the whole bani twice. This method helps so much. When bani is kanth you can close your eyes and focus more on bani. For those of us who are naam abhyaasi, we can recite bani is surti (in the mind without moving mouth) this will increase dhyaan by 10 times as we need to focus more and the mind will stop wondering. Nitnem in surti is so advantageous, it will increase our dhyaan in simran and our focus in many other things. Many gursikhs advise us to do this. Also, you’ll find in surti, nitnem gets completed much faster, with more concentration, win win lol. This means we have more time at amritvela to do more naam simran or read more bani. So many benefits!!!! Maharaj knows best.

  24. headphones, and just listen to nitnem on your phone, or as suggested above on mp3 player. Anyway life is a journey, so no need to exclude nitnem I think smartphone is more convenient these days, carrying an extra mp3 is inconvenient unless phone battery is bad.

  26. I always do Nitnem but i was talking about Aeroplanes. Next time i know to do it whilst flying. I agree if missed out then do double next day.

  27. Never. There is no excuse. I know cases where people have gone back to maharaj because they a have made a bujjar kurheat. They’re asked how many nitnem they have missed. The panj Singh tell them that they must recite all missed nitnem then come back. Then they’ll be given amrit. I know a Singh who had to recite 30 nitnem! He missed a whole month! I don’t think you did it on purpose, so just read 2 nitnems the next time. It’s important you get nitnem kant (memorised) then you will never miss it.

  29. Internet keyboard warriors trying diminish the character of Sikhs such as Baba Nihal Singh. Before commenting on Baba ji's actions, have a look at your jeevan and reflect on whether you'd ever be able to sacrifice and achieve what Sant ji have in their life. They may have made mistakes but that is in line with what Satguru ji says - Bolon andar sabh ko, abul guru kartar. BTW, i'm not commenting on whether what Baba ji said is correct or not, but just reminding people on here to reflect a little.

  30. There are many different views about 1984. Unfortunately, anyone who does not fully agree with Sant Giani Jarnail Singh Ji or the Khalistan movement is automatically labelled a "sell-out". And please don't forget, Baba Santa Singh Ji helped get many Singhs released from jail.

  34. WJKK WJKF Can spirits come back and see you after they have died? Reason why is I had a relative who said they have seen their bibi who died a few years back. They went to India and in her Bibi's room an object fell which was on a table and then they felt a poke in their back like their bibi used to do to them. This was at night and no one else around. Dont spirits go to get judged and sent to heaven/hell/Sachkand/ Chaurasi lakh after they die or do they stay on earth for a while, or can they come back from where there gone? If a spirit has gone to another state, can it come back in its previous state?

  38. If a persons mind is on their house at point of death, they will return as a ghost within that house. ant kal jo mandre simrae aisee chinta mai jai marae Pret jaun val val authere Sggsji Ang 526 bhagat trilochan Why do you think haunted houses are such a spoken about concept around the world? If a person dies in such thought, jam dhooth the messenger of death will come to collect them and take them to the court of dharam rai. There they will be judged and sentenced according to their deeds, which would include incarnation as a ghost for the above person who died thinking of their house. This may be in addition to punishment in hell for their other deeds, or even a period in heaven. The persons existence as a ghost will typically last a long time, but not necessarily for ever. Once their debt has been paid, jam dhooth will come back down and take them to wherever dharam rai has ordered. I would recommend reading unditthi duniya (unseen world) by Bhai Randhir Singh.

  41. Here's a mind dump of my thoughts as fast I can get them out as I should be doing something else when I write this post!!! (i.e. work!!) The importance of AmritVela can't be under estimated There wont be any "progression" without it Progression only comes from Guru's grace but Guru jee is looking for your effort That said executive orders/Nadar/glances of grace from Maharaj can waiver all situations but to depend on this should be frowned upon as Maharaj wants effort I heard in a katha once that a person who bows before the Guru, physically or mentally, during Amritvela wont have to bow/seek the help of others The ultimate way to get up at AmritVela is have to a huge amount of Prem for Maharaaj However, sustaining Prem and therefore AmritVela in my experience is very hard and depends on your circumstances - e.g. where you are in your journey, your environment, your habits/lifestyle/the company you have etc the day before AmritVela plays a big part on whether you'll wake up and get up at AmritVela e.g. watching Game of Thrones at 10pm the night before will have an impact!! How hungry are you for it? I would try to avoid the question of is AmritVela a requirement. Try your best to "do" AmritVela in whatever way you can. Don't be lazy but don't beat yourself up about it either as it could hamper motivation. Ultimately Maharaj knows your situation.

  43. Reminds of sakhi that Giani Kulwant Singh frequently narrates. A pair of Singhs once did matha teyk at Darbar Sahib. After doing so, they went to a Mahapurkh who asked where have you been to which they replied we have just done mata teyk at Darbar Sahib. The Mahapurkh then remarked I hope you haven't left your mathaa there!

  44. That is a very good desire...keep it up. I have not had darshans of GuruSahib. But i did hear of a Gursikh bibi, everyday during sukhasan see would ask to be blessed with the darshan of one of the gurus, i forgot which. She kept asking...and after 2 years she got darshan. I think theres 2 ways to meet guruji. Through love and through tap/ penance/hardwork. If it is thru love, u try to increase ur love qnd closeness to the guru. You listen to their sakhis, do kirtan, as much simran and seva because you like want to know more about ur guru, see wat he said, and u r happy thinking of him. Basically its wat.the above poster said, u want to do something for ur guru. But its hard to have that love so some ppl do it the hard way. They do tap, i will do simran or paath until Guruji gives me darshan. So they rely on stubborness. And in both ways, guruji tests u to see if ur worthy. He will test the love of the other and stubborness of the other. So because u r doing it through tap, u will tested on stubborness. You will have to keep being stubborn and asking for darshan and not give up. Also make sure you are not affecting ur health by not sleeping enough. This human body is precious. You can do seva of the panth of humanity of ur parents with it.

  48. Whole foundation and theology of Sikhism is based on concept of Sargun and Nirgun: In Sikhism god is considered to have two forms. One form is called nirgun(non existent original/supreme blissful Consciousness/transcendental meditative state[anubhav parkash]) Second form is consider sargun state of God which occurs when nirgun orginal state of God transcedents its attributes into three sub forms. 1) physical form- avatars ie- our guru's of this age of iron and previous ages/karak bhramgyanis and 2) shabad form of God in sikhi context- Gurmantar, Mala Mantar/Mool Mantar/Bij Mantar/Satnaam Paraporbla mantra which explains attributes of God act as an carrier for soul merge back to its source- nirgun. 3) Sargun pasara(vairat roop/whole creation) form of Vahiguroo- Creator is infused in its creation-like fragrance in the flower. There are two main mantras in Sikhism. 1 Gurmantar- Vahiguru. Vahi (Blissfull/Beautiful/Memerizing) Guru(attribute/person/supreme consicouness of self that brings one consciouness from darkness/ignorance to light/knowledge of God) 2. Mool Mantra- Ikongkar Satnaam Kartapurkh Nirbhau Nirvair Akaal Morat Ajooni Saibhang Gurparsad || Ikongkar- God is one. Ik indicates nirgun form, ong indicates nirgun attributes transcendent itself to sargun (creation/spiritual state/shabda) and kar reminds us of source, which goes back to nirgun form. Kar- Milaap of Nirgun and Sargun Ikongkar = ( One God Nirgun/Sargun Interconnected/merged with one and another/not seperable) Satnaam- His name is truth Kartapurkh- He himself is creator. Nirbhau- He is without fear. Nirvair- He does not have any enemy Akaal Moorat- He is without time, he is exist without shape or form. Ajooni- Without birth/death Saibhang- He is light of knowledge Gurparsad - He can be felt by grace of guru. In Sikh context, blessing of our 11 guru's. In broader context, anyone has felt god and got salvation, with his grace one can also attain salvation and feel god. If you really wish to go in depth, please read the translations of japji sahib where everything is explained in detailed: http://www.sikhsanga...must-must-read/
